The Dome in Edinburgh, City of

I have been trying to get into the dome for a long time and I mean years. Always booked out or queued round the block. Well now I’ve been… I won’t need to go back. Lovely decor, staff etc It was the quality of the drinks. £13.50 for each of the ones we ordered (Xmas themed) and they were shocking. Aesthetically they looked so bad. I could have done better myself at home. I had the mrs clause’s Xmas cake and my partner had rocking around the Christmas tree. Please do not have the latter if you have any taste or senses because you will be left with now! It was far too spicy to enjoy, although it states with sriracha this was on another level. The Xmas cake one looked awful I was so disappointed. A bit of froth on the top but no “coconut snow” as described. I was expecting a decorated rim with coconut but there was nothing. I think I may need to lower expectations. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere it’s not worth the hype!

We have went to the Dome for the last 10 years around this time. My wife and me got married on the 2nd of December and it has turned in to a tradition to go each year. We went with our 3 kids, ages- 3, 6 and 8. Honestly, this was the best year ever. Elliott and his college made it for us. He was so attentive to the kids and made it so very special. I will always go back it's class and memorable. Thanks again!!!!!

We went to the Dome on a recommendation from a friend, we hadn’t booked and when we arrived we was advised there wasn’t any tables, however we was told we was welcome to wait, we didn’t wait to long before a table become a available and I’m so glad we did as what a lovely bar great service and atmosphere, reasonable prices too.

We happened to be passing and noticed the pretty outside decor - very Christmassy. Inside the room is so glitzy and over the top but in a good way. The lit tree in the middle of the bar is something else! We enjoyed our cocktails one of which was called ‘selfie’ which came with a Polaroid photo which was such a fun idea. Overall a lovely place to stop for a drink. It was very busy so I think we were very looking to get a table.

Excellent early dinner. The staff were attentive and helpful to two elderly ladies. When we are in Edinburgh we always try to book an early dinner slot or afternoon tea. Its the highlight of our stay.

We managed to book a table in the restaurant at the last minute and were surprised to find out after booking that we were allocated the table for 2.5 hours! The building is beautiful and the grill room was stunning. Staff were very attentive, efficient and friendly, we chose from the table d’hote menu, the food was very good and excellent value, with 3 courses for £30! Can’t wait to go back!

Walking around Edinburgh I stumbled upon The Dome. Mainly because it was Xmas decorated already (mid October). Eating there the same evening wasn’t possible anymore: fully booked. But the next day we could have dinner there. We did not regret! The place is amazing, the food very good and not too expensive (giving the setting) and we enjoyed it very much.

Fantastic experience, no request was too big for the staff. There is a large selection of teas for the afternoon tea as well as a cocktail selection

We went there for Brunch the service was excellent and the location is amazing! The food was not that great to be honest. I had the veggie breakfast and my avocado was the hardest I had ever eaten it was also not that much for my taste. We had a great time though, if you are looking for a great location this is your place.

One of the most beautiful establishments anywhere in the world with amazing staff, a fabulous wine list, very clean, but cuisine is not to the standard of the prices charged.

Very beautiful establishment, refined and elegant. The staff is very caring, kind and attentive. We had booked an afternoon tea which was a superb experience. The products are fresh, beautiful presentation and ample quantities. We had a lovely time and hope to be able to repeat the experience the next time we come to Edinburgh.

£64 for afternoon tea for two . I have had more at a lesser cost.

When we entered, we were warmly welcomed by a gentleman with impeccable manners, who then guided us to our table. Shortly after, the waiter came over, and his behavior was far from appropriate. Being a Muslim, I asked him a simple question: “Is there an alternative to pork?” It was a straightforward question that I have asked in many places before, and it has always been met with polite responses. However, he replied with a blunt “No, we only serve pork” and then, in an insulting tone, added, “What is the use?” implying there’s no point in offering anything other than pork. His manner was rude, disrespectful, and undoubtedly racist. Unfortunately, this ruined the entire experience. If it weren’t for my friend’s efforts to calm the situation, it could have escalated further. All we seek is simple respect.

Location and food are great. Servive by both host and waiter were VERY bad and I hate to say it but I felt it is because of my background (racism). Our waiter Judin was rude, to say the least.

Beautiful place foid and experience

The food is really bad. We asked for cook 70% of the steak. Look that, it’s burnt steak.

Service is awesome, the place is gorgeous and the drinks are exquisite!

Food was very good. Would have got a five star had the dessert not let us down. Sticky toffee pudding was dry and lacking sauce… all else superb. Special shout out to our waiter, George, who went above and beyond. We were happy with our table but I think you could easily end up somewhere quite noisy if not lucky. Stunning venue otherwise and very impressive looking!

Best meal in town. Steak cooked to perfection, fries top notch. The cheesecake was wonderful. Friendly and quick staff. A bit noisy from the bar area.

The building is stunning but the service was lackluster, and the cocktails were extremely overpriced for the quality. I waited 15-20 minutes for a server to come to my table, and another 20 to get the overpriced cocktail. Sorry but not worth the hype from my experience.

A perfect meal in a wonderful place with top-notch attention and very good dishes. We went to eat there to say goodbye to the city. We took oysters to try them. Delicious without needing any accompaniment, a good product. Then some mussels with their sauce, good mussels and a delicious sauce. For main dishes we both had the tenderloin and the rare sirloin. The sirloin was very tender and delicious. The loin is delicious but a little tough. I would return for the attention to the beautiful place

10 out of 10 from my wife and I. Booked for brunch as we were in Edinburgh for the day and started with a good full belly. Scottish breakfast with black pudding and haggis!! Fabulous. What a beautiful building and interior. Staff were very professional and looked after us. Do it!!

Fair warning, my negative food review is for the vegan afternoon tea. The regular might be the best in town for all I know. Service was phenomenal, and the environment was lovely. Staff were very kind. The food though, not so great. Vegan sausage roll was probably the best part. Scones were very dense and tasted like they may have been frozen and thawed, not made fresh. The worst was their take on clotted cream. The best way I could describe it is “glue-like”. The food really needs to be improved for this price point. There have been incredible advancements in plant based alternatives in the last decade, the Dome should do some kitchen R&D. I still had a relatively good experience though, and don’t regret going.

Came here for the brunch deal that you can find on itison. You'll need to pay in advance and also make a booking for brunch, we did it through a phone call. I think it was really worth the money and the ambience was nice! We got the Scottish breakfast (which included Haggis and blood pudding) and also got to try the Scottish breakfast tea!

We stopped for afternoon tea and it was fabulous. Beautiful space, with friendly and attentive staff, as well as excellent food. Highly recommend the Scottish brew tea! You will need a reservation.

Lovely venue, really good service. We went to the grill room for lunch. Sandwiches were fairly bland really and a cold veg one was not the best. Maybe an off day. TripAdvisor has it bang on.

This restaurant was the only place in Edinburgh where we experienced micro aggressions bordering on racism. Went here for my partner's birthday dinner and the whole experience was ruined by the service quality. The waitress and front of the house were extremely rude and condescending. The food quality was so-so, the bread was refrigerator cold and the butter frozen. Any requests were taken personally and we were treated with extreme disrespect. Definitely avoid the place if you don't want a side of disrespect and disappointment with your meal.

Went here for a champagne afternoon tea, I don't like fish and they were lovely about changing the sandwich to suit me, there was more than enough to eat and it was filling, sausage roll was very good, cakes lovely, service was first class attentive but not intrusive the atmosphere was relaxing and friendly definitely recommend coming here hope to return soon

The Dome is a visually appealing place, well lit externally with an ornate hotel lobby entrance hallway. It was our 25th wedding anniversary meal and we both felt pleased with our choice. The imposing bar is in the middle and the tables are arranged around this. Internally the building is both ornate and impressive The table was nice even being situated near the toilet lobby door. The waitress was helpful and pleasant and when she billed the wrong table her boss quickly resolved the situation and we left happy that we’d been treated well enough, although there was no personal engagement and no attempt at making sure we had a brilliant experience- just efficient but impersonal one, which had they gone a tiny bit further would have been the icing on the cake. When we left it was dark and the lit frontage of the Dome certainly made for a great photo opportunity. All in all, great food, good service and the experience was fitting for our anniversary.

It's just a lovely building. We were lucky enough to be in the Green Room for a private function, and the food was excellent. I can't fault it. The service was just the right amount of attentiveness (shout out to Charlie, who handled everything with aplomb). It was truly an excellent experience.

The worst sirloin steaks ever, so tough the steak knife would barely cut through, we were a couple celebrating an anniversary. Fortunately the head waiter was very good and sorted everything out. A hugely disappointing lunch.

The location is split up into different sections and I can only speak for the Georgian Tea Room. The staff is very nice and the food is tasty. The variety of food makes the small portions add up to a whole meal. All around, the experience was worth the 35£ per person (this includes the 10% service fee that is automatically added to the bill).

Superb experience. If you are visiting Edinburgh, have limited time and can have only 1 dinner, I can suggest this place. We loved everything about the Dome. Ambience, service, food, drink, crowd and atmosphere. Must visit, especially if you have a date!

Sunday Roast in the UK is a longstanding tradition, and what better way to honor that is to feast at The Dome on George St. in Edinburgh, Scotland. Booking ahead is advised as we did for our 1 pm table. Walking up the steps of the neo-classical building, through the revolving door and into the foyer was only an eye teaser, until entering the restaurant and cocktail area, all under a stupendous glass dome. So lush and wonderful use of color. Opulent. We were in awe. The servers and managers are all dressed smartly in black and they’re very attentive. ‘Elliott’ served me the ‘Smoked Bloody Mary’ with great presentation. Wonderful and flavorful. The ‘Duo of Smoked Salmon’ was nicely plated with tiny dollops of a curry mustard and squares of gelatin. Our entrees were a popover atop slices of roast beef, broccolini spears, a carrot and roasted potatoes on a pool of tasty gravy. A ramekin was filled with creamy horseradish. The goblets of Cabernet made it all work together. We shared a dessert of ‘Sticky Toffee Pudding’, marveling at our wonderful afternoon and of those great remembrances.

My wife & I were there to celebrate her 60th birthday and we both loved it.We had not been to the Georgian tea room before it was amazing, the extra touch of putting a candle on one of the cakes was a lovely touch, my wife was blown away, thank you so much for a great time. We will definitely be back.

The food and cocktails served as part of the Tipsy Afternoon Tea were delcious and very well presented. One of my friends chose the vegan and alcohol-free options and she wasn't disappointed.

We had brunch and I must say was disappointed. Potato Hash was a few wee squares of potatoe, tiny wee bits of bacon, just green leaves for spring onions and the fried egg was burnt underneath and a semi hard yolk. Will not be taking that again

Came for late lunch with UK visiting relatives (from Canada). They were blown away with ambience and service. Food was good and not overly expensive. Keep up the good work please.

You pay for the beautiful building....service but not the food....the food was below average

Whenever I have to entertain visitors from out of town for lunch, The Dome is always my first choice. The food is always good, the service impeccable, and the building can't be beat for awesomeness.

The Dome offers a beautiful setting with professional service and good food at a reasonable price. It's a bit chic but not overly expensive. The atmosphere is calm, with soft music and a spacious layout, making it ideal for those who prefer quieter environments. We went for lunch and had a great experience.

My friend and I called in today without a reservation, and the maitre'd was so welcoming and friendly. He found us a table and chatted with us about the beautiful building. The food was delicious, and the waiting staff were impeccable. Would highly recommend.

Best steak! Perfectly cooked. We went with friends to celebrate a birthday and all of us were very happy with our meals and drinks. Cocktails were high quality too. Stunning inside! Gorgeous chandeliers and beautiful floral displays in the "Grill Room", very old world glamour. Service was spot on. We dropped off a cake earlier in the day which they stored for us and brought out for us after dinner.

Exquisitely decorated place in a beautiful location. It was an old Edinburgh bank. From the outside you can see the entrance columns with Corinthian style capitals. Once inside there is the bar and restaurant area with a beautiful dome. The lighting is perfect, it even highlights the beauty of the room, which is also decorated with huge vases with fresh flowers. We had some drinks in the bar area and then went to dinner. The food was very tasty and well presented. Excellent service both in the bar area and in the restaurant. The price is not cheap, but very adjusted to the place and the service. We have paid more to eat in other restaurants and bars in Edinburgh that did not match the quality of this place in any way. I recommend not missing a visit to The Dome to anyone visiting the city. As an anecdote I would say that even the services are beautiful and of course very clean.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough! Best afternoon tea experience in a gorgeous setting. Extremely fair price for the amount of food you get and the quality. I picked this place because it has a fully vegan afternoon tea menu as well as a gluten free one, which was perfect for our group. Everything on the vegan menu was delicious and beautiful (see picture)! Our server, Mya, went above and beyond. She was so helpful and friendly - also a fellow Swiftie! We really enjoyed chatting with her!

We had friends in town from the US and had a great evening in the Dome. The room is beautiful and interesting. Service was excellent as was the food. We had steaks and chips, one had a pie and we enjoyed our meal. The ambiance as always was great.

I was at The Dome yesterday. It was excellent! The service was fantastic, the restaurante is pretty beautiful and the price was fair! I ordered an battered haddock with fries and it was simply delicious! It’s a place that you have to go in Edinburgh!

Worst food and experience I’ve had in The Dome. I ordered the full Scottish breakfast (I’ve had this before here). As I am allergic to eggs, when ordering I asked for it to be removed and not to have the tomato or potato scone on my plate. Instead I asked for extra haggis. I was advised the chef would not allow me to change the items for extra haggis and/or black pudding. When the food arrived it was very disappointing. All of the meats were extremely oily/greasy. The bacon has streaky and full of fat. I was given a potato scone on my plate I asked not to be there. I had not eaten anything especially for going for brunch and it was 1pm when we got the food so I ate parts off the plate. This was my friends first experience in The Dome and I had been telling her how good it was, disappointing was her words. I’ve been visiting The Dome over many years with family and different friends but I will no longer recommend a visit to anyone.

Food is really bad, especially considering the prices. They promised to provide a birthday cake which we have told several times and mentioned that happy to order and pay extra, instead the so called "special" cake was just candle on strawberry and 2 tiny chocolates.
