Where to start, Must try cullen skink, very well dosed. Huge portion of nicely prepared nachos, with 3 dippings (it was a suggestion from table next to us, and it was worth it). Haggis tower creamy and full of flawors, definitely a go to option here! All of that more than enough for 2 people.

We were here as football fans. We received great advice and great service, good food and good drinks... We had a lot of fun. Absolute recommendation: Haggis and cask ale.

Cozy pub. Weak G&Ts. We weren’t even sure there was any gin in them at first. We let them know we wanted to order food, then waited 30 minutes and no one ever came over, even though there were only four tables occupied in the whole place. Finished our drinks and left. Lots of other options in the area. Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else.

Food was average. There were more chips than fish. Haggis was tasty! Ale pie steak was average. Toilet was dirty. Service charge is mandatory So, not great, not terrible

It was a really nice experience, the staff was super kind and funny and it made everything better, the food was excellent and for an honest price. Everything exceptional, would definitely go there again

The first night of our Edinburgh honeymoon, we planned our meals more spontaneously; we literally saw this place ahead of us on the street, quickly made sure it wasn't a dump online, then walked in with no real expectation of what we'd get. Fortunately, we got exactly what you'd want from a pub; good food and good service. I ordered a haggis tower (my first ever), and I was in love from the first bite. The minced peak of the tower was rich and savory, and the whiskey cream sauce complimented the mashed potatoes well. The sticky toffee pudding we had after was likewise delicious, so velvety and dark that you could mistake it for melting fudge. The atmosphere in the evening was cozy and welcoming, with the restaurant lit by dim yellow bulbs that evoked the warmth of candlelight. Very welcoming after coming in from a miserable cold rainy night. The service was kind and relatively quick with our order, especially considering how densely packed the pub was by the time we were settled in and eating. I'd happily recommend No.1 High Street, but you might want to arrive early for supper!

Small place with drinks and food. We weren’t sure if we could seat ourselves or not and waited a long time for someone to acknowledge us. Once seated we waited a long time for menus. We ordered and food came out quick. Food was delicious, hot and fresh.

We were eager to give the Huggies a shot after seeing the fantastic prices on the menu outside the bar, which convinced us to check out this restaurant. The interior has a lovely atmosphere; it feels roomy, and the seating is quite comfy. Our food arrived quickly, and the staff was both polite and friendly. The dishes were absolutely delicious! We ordered both the vegetarian Huggies and the original ones. I highly recommend trying them!

Very very good food and atmosphere! I can highly recommend the „Steak and Ale Pie“. It comes in a pastry crust, very delicious! Don‘t forget to ask for their whisky selection!

Worst burger I have ever tried. Meat was overcooked and tasted like this bad meat mixed with antibiotic. Like this really bad cow smell.

Love this place for a pub vibe off the main tourist traps of the mile. Great food and atmosphere, sometimes even a band is playing traditional music as well.

Good Atmosphere, food underwhelming. We had the Steak pie, chicken with bbq sauce, sticky toffee & cranachan. Service was friendly. Pie had a tomato base to the gravy/sauce.

Both the waiters( the blonde female and the tall slim male) were racist and discriminating. They took the order of the white family sitting next to me and said they can’t take my order because they stopped serving food. Zero for service and zero for respect

I'd give 0 stars if possible. The shortish waiter was very rude to us! I was impressed with the food during our first visit but the second really put us off. I'd recommend walking down the street or finding a different place in the area, as there are better options around and some are even more affordable with much more well trained staff. This place seems to have their regulars so they don't care about you...

Service is atrocious and when we entered, the waiter just told us without looking at us that they dont have space in a very arrogant way. No customer service skills from the waiters because they were originally ignoring us. I wouldn't come back, despite a good experience yesterday in terms of the food. I rather pay more for better service.

We had a decent experience on our first visit. The haggis was good and we had no complaints with customer service. However, on our second visit, on entering the place, we felt as though we were invisible or just being ignored completely. We had to walk right through to get someone’s attention after which the waiter rudely said “we don’t have a table for 5”. He avoided eye contact and just carried on serving a table. We left feeling very uncomfortable. There also was a spare table that we know could have seated 5 people.

Best meal and service we had while visiting Edinburgh. Proper Scottish hospitality.

My husband and I came upon this pub while searching for where to eat near our hotel we ate here twice! I had the Cullen Skink my husband had the steak and ale pie really tasty! The second time again as everywhere was busy the waitress Emma/Emily was very accommodating and friendly each time we came and bar staff friendly. We also got to enjoy some live folk music which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thankyou !!!

Great place to sit and rest for a drink or three. Also, excellent food when you return for dinner. The staff definitely cares and while busy keeping up during dinner, they still obviously care. We went twice just for drinks and once for dinner.

We went there twice in one day. Once for drinks in the afternoon and then we came back for dinner. Both times the service was excellent. The employees were super-busy but they were still friendly and helpful.

Traditional, well stocked Scottish pub serving traditional Scottish pub grub and classics . Some impressive vegan and vegetarian options. Great service, friendly staff. Very reasonably priced bar for the city centre.

My partner and I stopped in this nice pub for dinner while visiting Edinburgh. Both pints were very nice and reasonably priced (£5.50 for the Tennent’s and £6.30 for the Guinness), but the same thing cannot be said for the food I had. My girlfriend went for a tasty soup of the day (leek and potato) whereas I went with a burger, because the waiter told me they ran out of another dish I wanted to get. The burger was ok, but the bread was completely wrong, it was not the brioche bun that was written on the menu. Nevertheless, the overall quality was good but I expected more since this was supposed to be one of the most popular pubs in Edinburgh.

Disappointing Experience Despite Decent food I visited No. 1 High Street tonight with my girlfriend, and while the food was decent, the service was a major letdown. From the start, there was confusion about whether to place our order at the bar or at our table. The bartender assured us he would take our order at the table, but then proceeded to ignore us despite our attempts to make eye contact. He stood idly at the service window and prioritized finding a seat for someone's pet while we waited. With the kitchen nearing closing time, we finally gave up and went to the bar to place our order ourselves. When our food finally arrived, we discovered a hair in one of the dishes. Instead of offering a proper apology, the manager came out and oddly remarked that the chef is bald, as if that excused the issue. She agreed to take the dish off the bill but didn't bother offering a refund since we had already paid, leaving us feeling completely dismissed. While the food at No. 1 High Street was good, the poor service and the manager’s unprofessional response ruined what could have been an enjoyable evening. I won’t be returning.

Rude service, absolutely ignoring their customers by chatting in their phones and staring at the window. Well, good luck keeping this place with this attitude.

We recently visited here and were left thoroughly disappointed, not just by the food but by the service as well. To start, the food was fine, but nothing remarkable. The dishes we ordered arrived cold, including the scotch egg, which should have been at least warm. When we brought this up with our waitress, she seemed irritated, took the dish back, and still left it on the bill. Her attitude throughout the meal was short, dismissive, and quite frankly, rude. Anytime we asked a question, it felt like we were bothering her. However, what really left a bad taste in our mouths was the feeling that we were treated differently due to our race. The pub was predominantly white, and the waitress who served us was noticeably more pleasant with the white couple seated next to us (after our meal). She answered their questions, offered recommendations, and engaged with them in a way that was starkly different from how she treated us. We can't help but feel that our experience was tainted by more than just poor service. It’s disheartening, to say the least, and I would definitely recommend almost any other place on the Royal Mile

They serve their scotch eggs frozen/cold. I asked the waitress if I could get mine warmed up in the microwave because it was really really gross. My partner’s fries were lukewarm, but that wasn’t worth bringing up. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Ce bar restaurant très vivant vous réconcilie avec la salade caesar. Un plat tout simple mais très bon ici. Le fish ans chips est excellent. La panure est légère est bonne. Il vous en coûtera autour 15 à 16 livres pour l'un comme l'autre. Les serveurs/serveuses sont souriant.s et agréables

Great atmosphere and amazing food! I had the vegan fish and chips and it tastes so well, I am not used to loving the vegetarian versions of regular dishes this much!

Quite average food The chilli chicken is not too bad but it’s swimming in sauce. Ordered the coleslaw that’s swimming in the sauce. The coleslaw also very sour n couldn’t finish The clansmen burger was ok though the chips are good. More on the thin side which I prefer and slightly salted.

This Bar is on the corner on The Royal Mile and just about one block away from the high desity of people. Lovely classic bar. Staff and service excellent. We had on tap Beer and Cider plus dinner. Check out the amount of food served. You will not go away hungry. Sunday Roast-Beef and all the trimming. The wife enjoyed a wonderful chicken with citrus sauce. The price for this busy area was excellent. Our bill with food and two drinks was about $40 pounds. A must try.

Food was good. We had soup which was like how we make at home, delicous. However, it was crowded, hard to find tables and call the waiters.

Scottish pub restaurant that became the favorite of our trip. We went several times and everything was always delicious. I recommend the vegetarian haggis, the small version is filling. And the starters are very good although a little heavy: the mac and cheese and the onion rings that we couldn't finish. The fish and chips, my boy said, were one of the best he had tried during his stay. The pea puree side has mint that gives it a perfect touch. They have good cider and beers. The music they play is very good and those who serve are very friendly!

Genuine Scottish food in a rustic pub, albeit a bit of a tourist pub...you might sit next to Americans. The haggis was real. It's still with me a week after eating it.

Very cozy pub in downtown Edinburgh. There was Guinness to drink and vegan fish and chips to eat, which were absolutely top class.

Although the staff is very friendly and the pub itself is very pretty, the fact that the food wasn't that great couldn't be ignored. It has to be said that we only came after 9 p.m. and the kitchen closes at 9:45 p.m.

Great burgers and fish and chips. My friend had the fish and said the batter on it was perfect. The burger was juicy and tasty. The service was very friendly and they didn't rush us out the door as soon as we finished eating just let us relax.

A truly welcoming place, given by the venue but above all by the very friendly staff. I didn't have high expectations having entered casually but I was really surprised. I tried their "haggis tower" and it was amazing, obviously accompanied by their typical beer. Super recommended

We went inside this pub, apparently me and my partner we’ve seated in a “dirty table” that literally we didn’t realise, but I’ve heard one of the server saying really loud saying “it’s dirty” blabla I mean complaining, I understand that because my actual job is a server, but I don’t make such scene like that to the customers that I work with, all I can say was very unprofessional, in fact we didn’t realise that the table “was dirty”! and one of the servers came after a while they were commenting us, criticising and laughing (childish) to say that the table was dirty and she came with a cloth to clean it, than she gave us the menu, looking through the menu they had a really short list of food for a pub. After few minutes, the lady came to take our order pretending we were “ready” and right after she went to the station again with the other server and still commenting and criticising, and so we left and really happy to leave this pub and never come back!

Fantastic place all around. We initially found this place because the other pub we went to was extremely busy, miracles happens because this place was available and delicious. We had the clan burger and the Cullen Skink, both were great!

I loved this place! The music volume is just right to be able to chat without problem. The waiters were very friendly, they answered all our questions about the dishes without any problem. The food was delicious, I tried the mushroom soup and the vegan fish and chips, exquisite!! If I lived here I would come once a week to have my fake fish for lunch. The beers wow! When I return to Edinburgh I will come again. Thank you!

It is a classic pub where you can feel local. You can order the beer as soon as you enter, if you grab a table (it is not necessary to ask for it) you sit down and you can have the food. Awesome pub located on the Royal Mile. We were renting a flat above the pub so we had several opportunities to get food and pints. Service was amazing. Great selection of beverage options.

We chose this place to eat as we liked the sound of the menu outside the door, although a little expensive we presumed that would be a reflection on the quality of the food served. We were wrong. The steak pie was very mediocre, tasted okay but nothing special, this was served with mixed carrots and peas and simple french fries. We also ordered 2 pepsi. Our order came to over £40 Definitely a rip off for what arrived on our plates. Disappointing to say the least. Service wasn't great either, we weren't offered any condiments nor did anyone check in that everything was okay. Not very friendly

Great food - including good vegetarian & vegan options- at reasonable prices in a traditional Scottish city pub setting. We tried the fish & chips, the vegan fish & chips, the Cullen skink & the vegetarian haggis. All excellent, with the paprika halloumi fries side being outstanding.

First class food. The service was fast, professional and very nice. The atmosphere truly is Scotland in a nutshell. I highly recommend and invite you to try local food and beer.

Walked in on the off chance for something to eat and was greeted by the lovely Susan :-) they had a rosé I liked which was great and the food is just lovely! I had the Cullen skink and husband had the scotch egg to start which were both really tasty 😋 haggis for main was very tasty! Susan was brilliant, quick service and super friendly!!
