Staff were friendly and welcoming even though very busy when we arrived, the atmosphere was just what we wanted Menus had some great options Did notice not all drinks indicated a price

Very slow service this afternoon, food took a while to come. Cullen Skink was slightly warm (could be warmer) and two sides of chips came after our meal was finished, they were clearly forgotten about. Staff need to write orders down if they can't remember an order.

The bar staff was a bit rude after my party of 7 had ordered numerous drinks and dishes when we tried to order a dessert. Also our mains came before our starters. The food we received was great and I have no complaints. But once we were there later than they would have liked they were rude and I heard the bar staff talking behind my back.

Fab venue, staff were great as was the food. Very reasonably priced, especially for a city venue. Highly recommend

Person in charge was a confrontational when asked for a drink when we had been standing at the bar for a while, think he needs retraining in customer service, wouldn't recommend this place for a visit.

Got turned away at 7:30 for dinner when the places closed at 11

Had Balmoral chicken which was so dry and tasteless. Had to keep trying to catch attention of staff to get another drink. Good atmosphere and ideal location. Maybe got them on a bad night as have been before and no complaints. Staff did not even ask if we had enjoyed our food.

The only bad thing, as in all of Edinburgh, is going with children... since they limit you a lot from seeing live performances or just having a beer...

This Pub was recommended to us by a friend who was living in Edinburgh. As I am huge fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle this was one of my first things to visit in the city. With my girlfriend we went to have a dinner. The waitress was lovely, help us choose traditional Scottish meals, bring us beer and done this with a smile. Also she managed to find us a table in a busy night. The food was good, tasty and the portions was big enough. It was a good place to eat and grab a beer.

Staff very good, attentive and helpful. Easy to book. Good choice on the menu. I enjoyed the balmoral chicken but the broccoli was tough and undercooked- even for someone who likes it almost raw. The seats in window are rather low and it is chilly sitting there if you feel the cold.

I always loved coming here but unfortunately yesterday we received very rude service and left without eating or drinking anything. The place was fairly empty, the server was having a long conversation with a single guest at a table, completely ignored us. After a while the manager came over, asked if we wanted food or drinks, and we asked if we could have an open table by the window if we were only looking to have dessert or a starter and drinks. Best we could make out was that the kitchen wasn’t doing food anymore anyway and if we wanted drinks we should stick by the bar area. When we wondered why, if the kitchen was closed and we wouldn’t be taking a space from full dinner guests, we couldn’t have the empty table, we were told to just sit in the bar area and the guy walked away muttering and shaking his head. Sorry, rude. Not going to spend money here again anytime soon.

The vegan pie was nice enough, but nothing special & over priced. Staff were friendly, but took them about 10 minutes to get the machine to work. After I finished a course I went to the toilet & by the time I came back my table had been taken & my stuff moved. I enquired about the seats downstairs but the lady just said they were booked downstairs, that I could probably continue upstairs, thought if she had looked, which was not hard from her vantage point, it was easy to see there were not free tables without asking someone to move up. So I gave up & did not continue my meal.

It was our first time in Edinburgh, and we pass a great moment at The Conan Doyl. We love a lot the decoration and like a lot what we have eaten. The waitress was very helpful and listening. We pass a great moment in your restaurant.

Nice wee pub. Good atmosphere and pleasure to have a drink here. I belive you could do with staff training as a guy serving us was very confused with choice of whiskies.....

We was a very good surprise. The decoration is very good. We like it a lot. All the employees were very helpful and listening. We like what we have tasted, especially the PIE, the specialaty of the restaurant. We make a huge recommandation if you visiting Edinburgh to go to the Conan Doyle. Don't forget to book it.

Nice bar, good staff but very disappointing experience! Visiting from N.I & staying nearby. Chose to visit here for dinner before a pre booked Ghost Tour. One of the reasons to visit was to sample the real ale! Extremely disappointed to discover they had ZERO on tap!! 😡 Stayed for dinner anyway as no time to pick somewhere else. Bought 2 lagers from the bar as no ale. I had the Brisket Burger& chips. Burger was OK & chips were not great, in fact if I had bought a Burger King meal & served it on a plate it would have been better! My wife chose the Balmoral Chicken. The chicken was quite hard, the carrots were luke warm & the broccoli hardly cooked at all. After paying the bill we noticed we had been charged again for the 2 lagers & had to get a refund! Won't be back!

Stopped in for a drink one night while in town and saw the food being taken out. Looked so good returned a couple of days later to eat. Excellent pies and menu. Everyone enjoyed their food, well worth a visit. Proper pub and great atmosphere even if just stopping in for a drink

My first time in this gem of a place. A great pub with a comfortable eating area, giving the opportunity to be part of the craic, but the ability to eat in a civilised manner. The food was delicious and the service was great.

Friendly and welcoming staff, though they're casually dressed so I didn't realise the first person we saw was staff to begin with. Quick to take our orders. Drinks were great - raspberry and orange blossom spritz was lovely. We had a burger and fish & chips. Both decent sized portions and tasty. We're rarely in Edinburgh but will definitely keep this place in mind for next time.

Was in Sat 10th Feb, for the rugby. Decided to sit in the restaurant part of the establishment, in order to get a better view of one of the TV’s. Knowing I would have to order some food, which was cool. We decided on a sharing plate of Nacho’s (£11.50) as we were going out for dinner later on. They duly arrived, and at 1st glance I thought we were getting an individual portion each, as the one that came was only slightly bigger than a ramekin, we did laugh. To compound our misery, they were rank rotten, very little cheese, very little flavour, very annoying. Plus point, friendly attentive staff, the bar staff do not make up the price of drinks, which I cannot lie, were very pricey for a run of the mill venue. Will we be back………nahhhhhhh

The round drinks ranged from £15.25 to £ 22.50 for the round of drinks, not good.

Visited after a theatre matinee & the young girl who was in the restaurant part was very pleasant & attentive. Our food order was taken quickly & came shortly after that.

Hopped in for some drinks and nachos around 4pm. Were greeted and seated fine before ordering drinks at the bar. The staff was quite lazy and timid, not really friendly. The nachos came and were honestly 'ehh'. Nothing too special to talk about but we can't label them as good. 3/5 Would not recommend and will not be back

Nice pub with a good selection of beverages available. There are also plenty of TVs should you be looking to watch sport. Only critisism would be cost but the location probably dictates this.

I had made this booking months in advance of going on Burns Night 2024. The day before I got a reminder about my booking. Great I thought. Just by chance I did some browsing about the place to get familiar with building / area before our 5pm reservation. To my dismay it said it was closed & to reopen later in February!!😱 No communication from them to let’s us know this what so ever! Fortunately our hotel concierge managed to find a reservation somewhere else for that evening to celebrate Burns Night. Disappointing Conan Doyle

Was here the other week and had a great time! Although it was busy our server Finn was very attentive. He recommended the buttermilk chicken burger and it didn't disappoint! Great spot if you're around the Leith/New Town area 😊

Went here after a show at Playhouse, wasn’t sure what to expect as it was so busy and noisy on arrival. Staff were really friendly and helpful, food was amazing, would definitely recommend and would go back again

We stopped in after a day exploring Edinburgh and had the lovliest evening here. The stafd were really friendly and we felt really looked after. It's a lovely pub with a great range of drinks. We decided to have dinner and were not disappointed, the food was absolutely delicious. If you're thinking of going here I'd highly recommend. Would also like to mention Mel, who I learnt was the manager, for her lovely warm service. She clearly knows how to run a pub brilliantly. We will be back!

Great pub with kind, attentive staff. The food from the kitchen is impeccable - the caramel cheesecake is a particular highlight. Good selection of beers and whiskeys, and very well located in Edinburgh.

Took two toddlers here for lunch the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Especially since the kids are - well loud. We still haven't learnt how to behave in pubs. It didn't phase them at all. Note if you're coming in with anyone under 18 you need to be eating. Little different to the pubs in England. Food we as great and they provided a kids menu. We split an adults Mac and cheese though as it's always a win.

Great food, kind bar staff, and lovely atmosphere! I enjoyed the bar loaded chips, filling for the price, and a good couple of pints of guinness. The bar staff were very helpful with sorting me out a good dram of whisky too.

Had a lovely wee dinner here with my Dad. I had the Mac and Cheese and he had Fish and Chips. Just what we needed on a cold day. Staff were very chatty and our server Jose was lovely. Will certainly go back.

Went here with some friends recently as I was visiting Edinburgh and getting a feel for the city, to prepare for Uni, and absolutely loved it. Instantly got the vibe that this place was perfect for a meet up with friends, casual or formal and...

What an amazing pub the best in all of Scotland. We can't wait to visit again for more fish cakes and some pints of Madri the best lager from Spain.

Great pub at the top of Leith walk. A real gem. fantastic food we dined here twice and the kids loved the mac and chesse! Good selection of local ales for my hubby to enjoy.

A warm welcome from the staff and cosy spots to sit and recouperate after a lot of walking! The bar tender was great at talking me through the hand-pulls. Next time I'm in Edinburgh I'll make a point of coming back here.
