!Very bad customer service! We ordered drinks and we were deciding what to eat, we have only took 5 mins, however the waiter kept coming back for 3times even though we told them we were still looking the menu! But they were not busy or closing soon! If you want to have some good cuisine and relax in Ipswich, I don’t recommend this one!

We specifically booked a table at this restaurant as they were advertising a Christmas Menu throughout December 2024 which included a Christmas Lunch Set Menu of 2 or 3 courses. However when we arrived, we were told that this menu was not being provided today due to the Ipswich Vs Newcastle match. What bearing this has on the menu choice, i just don't know at all. This was very disappointing as we had booked this restaurant based upon the nice Christmas Set Menu yet we could only pick from the standard menu which had no Christmas food on there. I picked the burger which wasn't that nice as it was too big and fell to bits and my girlfriend had a giant sandwich which wasn't really festive at all. Cost £50 for a meal we didn't really want. Really poor situation re the Christmas menu. You should not be advertising this menu if its not being provided throughout December as this is very misleading and had we have known that it wasnt being provided, we would have booked somewhere else. One good point was the service was very good but the venue was let down by the menu choice and the food itself. Also you should put a soft closer on your front door as the constant banging from it is really annoying when you're trying to have a meal.

Sunday lunch - wow. My husband and I shared the Camembert, with the seeds honey cranberries and bread, it was fantastic. I followed this with the roast beef dinner, the beef was lovely and tender, broccoli red cabbage cauliflower cheese roasted parsnip and carrot accompanied this with sausage wrapped in bacon stuffing ball Yorkshire pudding, absolutely delicious, the only thing that let it down was the roast potatoes which were sadly undercooked. This said quietly I was quite happy because I was very full. My husband had fish and chips which he said was very nice. The servers were lovely, very friendly and very helpful. A super way to spend Sunday lunchtime.

Nice restaurant where the tables aren't to close to each other. Attentative staff on this visit who served well. Food was nice and reasonably priced. The menu could do with more description of what the dishes actually contained. Another criticism of mine, but not for all would be, that the fresh grilled fish of the day wasn't served as a fillet and was whole on the bone. Same as prawns served in their shells. Picking bones out and taking shells off ruins the meal at the table.

Walked in and were told someone would come to us to take our order, 30 mins pass and no one did. Then we moved inside to get their attention and still no one came to us. Meanwhile one of the chefs were helping themselves to a beer at 12:05 midday. We then finally got to order and were told they were out of coke before lunch service even began. Then when we went to order omelettes we were told that they were all out of eggs. The “Fanta” we were sold, which was orange juice and lemonade also costed £7. The staff were unhelpful, inattentive, and had lots missing on the menu. Overall a shocking experience and wouldn’t recommend

Disappointing. Have been several times before but today was definitely below expectation. On arrival we were told there would be a wait for food as you were busy. That’s OK. Our order was taken about 20 minutes after we sat down. What isn’t acceptable is about another 10 minutes after taking the order to come back to the table and say you have run out of muffins and I would get bread instead. Does the Kitchen not know how many orders it can fulfill at the start of service and communicate it to the service staff? When breakfast did arrive my husband’s pancakes were at best warm and had to be sent back. Place needs a manager to focus on detail rather than just rushing about fire fighting as problems occur.

Sunday breakfast: bad service (no coordination between them), food was good in the end, but I had to send my pancakes back since they were lukewarm, as was my bacon. The place was busy, but not full. 10 minutes after taking our order, the main waiter came over and said there were no more muffins and it was bread instead. No options given, no questions asked if we wanted to change our order, just a quick remark in rushing by our table. The whole place clearly is out of their depth. It seems there is no coordination or accountability. They could do with a good manager sorting that place out.

We had a large table booking on a Monday evening. We sat at 7pm, and didn’t receive our food until 8:45pm. Felt sorry for the new girl who was initially taking our order and delivering our drinks (it was her first night and she was given a table of 10, despite the rest of the restaurant not being busy!) until another woman (assuming the owner) came and finished our service. Everything was extremely slow - from food order being taken, to drinks being delivered. This had been my experience on a previous visit and I thought it was a one off, but judging from this and some previous reviews clearly not. The redeeming factor was that the food was very, very good (except most of us who ordered steaks received them overcooked). However, the service means we won’t return, which is a shame as it has the potential to be one of the best restaurants in Ipswich if they had quicker/more staff.

Booked beforehand and arrived at 2pm for our booking. Drinks order taken but as restaurant clearly short staffed the guy who took the order had to serve everyone coming up to the bar whilst trying to get our order together. It was 2.50 pm before our food order was taken - having been advised the delay was due to a large table of 28 pre-orders being dealt with and once this was complete they would advise what food they had left!! Could not understand if the table of 28 pre-ordered why this should be the case. No chicken and only two burger buns left! Which took a fair amount off the already limited menu. We were offered complimentary nibbles and the female staff really were trying to give us the best experience but feel they’ve probably been let down by greedy management. When the food did arrive it was very nice albeit two of our party were quite ill immediately after leaving the restaurant. It’s a shame, used to be somewhere you could rely on for good food and service.

Me and my partner attended this venue for breakfast today …. Upon arrival (10:15am) we were greeted to a beautiful venue but empty with no member of staff near the door so hand to wonder round the corner to find the staff congregating out of sight…. We were the only patrons at the time and took our seats. We were told that the venue had no Sourdough toast and only 1 muffin… considering 90% of the breakfast menu forms these items we were limited to a choice as there was no mention of a reduced price on any of the breakfasts that was meant to have sourdough toast due to lacking this premium ingredient… Coffee was just ok, a little over-extracted and bitter and they have no syrup options other than hazelnut (you would expect at least vanilla or caramel in a breakfast establishment too) We placed our food order of one “Anchor Royale” and one breakfast “flatbread”and waited…. and waited 15 minutes to then be told “sorry, we have no flatbreads is normal bread ok?” … a breakfast flatbread served without a flatbread and with bread instead is common called a fry up breakfast or “full english” …. Our food arrived and eggs were overcooked… and the flatbread miraculously not only appeared (probably found at the back of an organised kitchen freezer) but turned into a naan bread with a distinct indian flavouring with nigella seeds and other indian spices …. This is NOT a flatbread. Eggs on the Anchor Royal were not runny and jammy at best, the tarragon hollandaise was far too vinegary for the dish and needed some form of richness like a runny egg yolk to cut through it … couldn’t send it back due to being told there was only 1 muffin ! Basic communication with the kitchen and FOH is needed here to be given a complete out of stock list before the shift. Also the kitchen should be organised especially when there is no one else in the restaurant as 30 minutes waiting for a breakfast order when you are the only ones in is FAR too long! Kitchen also need to learn how to poach a soft egg… Felt that £30 was overpriced for what we received !

Another waitress did the same. After another 15 minutes of no service, we left and went to Isaacs across the other side of the marina, ordered breakfast very quickly, got a nice breakfast for a lot less, and a laugh and a joke with the staff thrown in for free. Sunday Roast - If you want a "huge portion" that some people think is great then maybe it's the place for you but not us. There was enough food to feed 4 and there were only 2 of us. It put me off before I'd even started and it was more like an eating challenge than an enjoyable relaxing lunch. I hate wasting food so it was such a shame to see so much go to waste. The beef and gravy it had been sat in was warm at best but the house brick size potatoes were hot but not what I would call roasted. Two massive potatoes which were barely shown the pan. The Veg was lovely but just too much of it to do it justice - why so much!!!??? Quality not quantity is best.. It's a shame because it's a lovely place but the volume of food would put me off going again.

Pub food but to a high standard. Usually the portions are very generous. The staff can be a bit off hand, I think this is mainly due to there not being enough of them. They are not very well supported by the owners. The big downside is the waiting time. This can easily be up to an hour as happened to me the other week. The kitchen is small and there are many tables. If you don’t mind a wait the outcome is usually satisfactory.

We have been to the Last Anchor a few times our last being August 2023. Frankly it was not a great experience in terms of speed of service 1 1/2 hours to receive food). Roll on to January 2024 we thought we would give it another try…..We called up the evening before the visit to book a table and we wanted to arrive at 1015 in the morning. We were told by the person on the phone that it would be best to arrive around 9.30 as a group of 12 would be arriving at 10am. We arrived at 0920 and waited to be seated. 2 members of staff were serving guests and by the looks of it only one chef. The restaurant wasn’t busy when we arrived. We sat down and were promptly given menus and ordered our drinks, which came promptly however the server was in a rush to get away from us before we could ask her any questions like can we please order our food. We then proceeded to watch the restaurant fill up with guests. We watched so many people that came in after us order drinks and then food. When we questioned the server he said “well I am here now aren’t I”. We has already waited 40 minutes to be served at this point. We asked very politely how long the food would take and he said a further 20 minutes. By this time the party of 12’s order had been taken. We decided to leave and they did give us the drinks complimentary however our breakfast was spoilt. Thanks Last Anchor.

Great food, large portions, good value. However, whilst it advertises as wheelchair accessible it is not straightforward! The ramp onto the decking has approx 1inch lip, the decking is full of chairs & tables so difficult to manouver around. There are 2 double doors to get in, both of which have significant lips sending the electric wheelchair off at alarming angle or needing a manual chair to be tipped to get over it. It is worse coming out as the lip is deeper, approx 2.5inches. The restaurant is on 2 levels with a step in between so limiting table options for wheelchair users

Very unwelcoming venue. We are a group of dog walking friends who booked for lunch having checked that the restaurant is dog friendly. We were assured that there is a covered area for dogs and looking on the website this shows a lovely covered structure attached to the main restaurant. On arrival on a very wet day we walked in to have a member of staff shout across the restaurant that dogs weren’t allowed and the only area available was an outside seating area which was only protected by flimsy canvas sheeting which was not usable in wet weather. When we explained that we had phoned and been assured the restaurant was dog friendly we were simply dismissed and had to leave. We later phoned to discuss with the restaurant manager to be told the inaccurate picture on the website was only there to make the restaurant look good and was over a year out of date! They took no responsibility for the misinformation we were given when we booked or for the rude manner in which we were treated. Would not recommend, especially if you have a dog. We went to the Woolpack instead where we and our dog were well treated and the food was good.

Didn’t receive any menus for half an hour, being told they had run out. I should just point out the restaurant was not full, 5 tables including ours. When we did finally order it took another hour to get our food. We did not get everything we ordered being told they had run out of that option but we were not given the opportunity to change our order prior to service. We tried to complain that one meal wasn’t cooked but just got told sorry about that and walked away. They good and the service for our experience of this restaurant was absolutely appalling and so will not be returning or recommending

We booked for a meal following graduation , very accommodating and attentive staff. Very good selection on the menu, including a delicious Sunday roast. The food was very reasonably priced, well presented and tasty. Good selections of drinks and the restaurant is nicely situated, we would definitely revisit and recommend

Been here on a quite a few occasions, always have had lovely meals and friendly service. We tend to take advantage of bottomless brunch (who doesn’t like a bottle or 3 of Prosecco) :-) Part 2: attended another brunch in October, again great food, roast Hake lovely Credibly recommended by us.

We were looking for a table for 7 people, rather last minute on a Friday evening. The Last Anchor was able to accommodate us which we were very grateful for, and we were not at all disappointed. The quality of the food was really excellent, portions were generous , presentation was immaculate and the service was friendly and efficient. The menu included a 'chefs meat dish of the day' and a 'chefs vegetarian dish of the day' - we chose the meat dish which was Pork Belly - delicious !

I cannot fault this place whatsoever. The food was of the highest standard. Good portion sizes and for the quality, the price was very much well worth it. I cannot complain at the speed of service as its clear they need more staff. If there was more staff it'd be simply faultless.

We went here for a someone’s leaving do. I’d never ever go again. There was a ‘buffet’ laid out for us and to be honest it was not the best, serving spoons would have also helped with the 8 bowls of nachos with rock hard cold melted cheese on them. It seemed to be run by a group of teenagers who spent most of their time behind the bar messing about with each other. At one point the guy serving drinks was doing a plank across the bar (had his feet up on one side of the bar and his hands on the other). Whilst impressive, it didn’t fill me with joy with the thought of his dirty shoes up on the bar where they serve from. They let a group of girls take one of the tables we had booked. If this is what passes for service now days, im not interested. Avoid.

A group of 13 women had a Pensioner’s Lunch here which was two courses for £14.95. There was a large choice of dishes, the food didn’t take long to come out and the young waiters were very obliging. We were in a lovely room with Wedgwood Blue walls. Incidentally, the chips were some of the best I have ever tasted!

This use to be a brilliant Turkish restaurant, we always felt it was the best and most authentic in town, but now it is anything but. Upon arrival it felt different, not so welcoming. We were a part of four, there was another party of eight, but they were finishing when we arrived. The menu did not appear to be a full as it use to be. Prices had been altered by sticking bits of paper on the menu rather than printing off new ones. We waited for about 30 minutes before we were asked for our drinks order, then another 15 for the drinks to arrive. The menu had EFS beer on draugh, but we were told that the menu was wrong and they don't do that any more, only in bottles. We ordered EFS in bottles, but after some time the waiter came back and said they didn't have any so we ended up with Becks. We opted for a cold and hot mezze to be shared between the four of us, but the hot mezze missed and ingredient that then had to be cooked separately and arrived after we'd finished the starter. The main courses were OK, not great and some food was left because it just wasn't good enough such as the side tomato salad on the plate. I had lamb chops, they were skinny and dry and not worth £18.50 (sticky label price increase) for 4. At about 8.30 the heating came on, the radiator next to us got hot. This was during an extremely hot spell of weather with temperatures in the 30's outside. The car payment machine was not working, so we had to dig around amongst us to find cash. Even the bill was amateurist, written on a scape of paper and present in a wooden box with a broken hinge. Throughout our meal we were annoyed by loud music from a function upstairs, sounded like a disco. All-in-all we were unhappy with our experience and will not be going back.
