This use to be a brilliant Turkish restaurant, we always felt it was the best and most authentic in town, but now it is anything but. Upon arrival it felt different, not so welcoming. We were a part of four, there was another party of eight, but they were finishing when we arrived. The menu did not appear to be a full as it use to be. Prices had been altered by sticking bits of paper on the menu rather than printing off new ones. We waited for about 30 minutes before we were asked for our drinks order, then another 15 for the drinks to arrive. The menu had EFS beer on draugh, but we were told that the menu was wrong and they don't do that any more, only in bottles. We ordered EFS in bottles, but after some time the waiter came back and said they didn't have any so we ended up with Becks. We opted for a cold and hot mezze to be shared between the four of us, but the hot mezze missed and ingredient that then had to be cooked separately and arrived after we'd finished the starter. The main courses were OK, not great and some food was left because it just wasn't good enough such as the side tomato salad on the plate. I had lamb chops, they were skinny and dry and not worth £18.50 (sticky label price increase) for 4. At about 8.30 the heating came on, the radiator next to us got hot. This was during an extremely hot spell of weather with temperatures in the 30's outside. The car payment machine was not working, so we had to dig around amongst us to find cash. Even the bill was amateurist, written on a scape of paper and present in a wooden box with a broken hinge. Throughout our meal we were annoyed by loud music from a function upstairs, sounded like a disco. All-in-all we were unhappy with our experience and will not be going back.

First ones in restaurant when it opened. Very dim lighting struggled to read menu. I went to use female toilet. No toilet rolls in either .Most definately does not justify a 5 star hygiene review. Asked waitress, who could not find any and gave me paper serviettes. 4 main courses. The chicken shish was bland tasted like it had been pre cooked then dropped in a fryer not grilled. It was served on a thin slice of a wrap, not on bread as stated on menu. Chicken wings looked cooked but were soggy . Another main was varying temperatures between hot and cold. 3 of us could not finish the meal. Very disappointed

A chilly night but a warm welcome. The free bonus starter was delicious as were the main courses. Not the cheapest Turkish around but generous platefuls make it good value.

We were visiting the theatre & this was an ideal location The food & service were both excellent We had the lamb guvec & a tavuk sote, both were delicious We will definitely be dining again next time we visit Ipswich

We visited on recommendation from my brother and what a recommendation it was. Food quality is outstanding. All 4 of us were extremely satisfied with our evening which is a credit to the restaurant. Definitely to return

We had the most amazing starter of calamari which was light and delicious followed by the meat platter for two which was very generous and the meat was superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening

The very efficient waiter informed us the restaurant was under new management. Two of us ate here on a weekday evening. we hadn't booked but they were very quiet, which was sad to see. so we were easily seated at a table in the window. We had bread and dips, houmus and falafels for starters, very tasty and obviously home made. Ihad kleftiko, a lamb dish and my partner had a vegetarian dish, both were served with rice/bulgar wheat, and we had a side salad and some chips. Needless to say we could't manage to eat it all, so had to leave some. The quality of the food was first class. very tasty and authentic tasting. Thoroughly recommend. I cannot imagine with this quality it will take for long for it to be filled again with customers.

Just had a really great meal here. The food was lovely. My main was hot and tasty, the salad was fresh and crisp, the dips were great and obviously home made and the bread was perfect too. Friendly, attentive staff and a nice atmosphere too. Well worth seeking out.

Visited as a walk-in. Wasn’t busy (I later heard they’d had a number of cancellations due to those booked having to self-isolate) : sad, but worked in my favour. The service was attentive, but got the balance right - it wasn’t intrusive. The food was excellent - well presented and the flavour matched. The portions were excellent too: I like my food, but the mixed grill defeated me!

This restaurant lived up to the positive reviews we read here, catering well for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Authentic food, really interesting menu and kind, friendly service. My main was a Turkish lamb casserole, with warming spices and a depth of flavour. Even the rice tasted special and different. Would highly recommend.

We discovered this lovely place tonight after looking for a Turkish restaurant, the reviews were good on this site so we’ve booked. We weren’t disappointed! The food was excellent from a varied menu. The decor was very traditional and the staff was very friendly and professional. We will definitely go back to this little gem!

First time in Ipswich and decided to eat here based on trip adviser reviews. The food was pretty good but the staff were disorganised. However, I am vegetarian and they made a veg moussaka for me which wasn’t on the menu. I was surprised it didn’t come with rice/salad/red cabbage as every other Turkish restaurant I have eaten in does serve that way. It was nonetheless a good moussaka. The problem we had was that they charged us for a different tables bill. OH paid and it was only when we were in the cab that I looked at the bill. We called and they said come back . We did, he was given £4 back. He didn’t was to make a fuss but again I called and they said they would check it and refund. The taxi driver by this time had another job to get to so we said just refund or don’t we can’t come back. In fairness they did refund the card and confirmed by text. The taxi cost had doubled. There was little in the way of apology. No gesture, no let us pay the additional taxi charge etc. It isn’t that I wanted that but it would have been good customer service. As I said the food was good and the restaurant was very clean and covid safe. It’s just a shame that the experience means we would not go back here.

The food was fresh and so tasty. Service with a smile. We had a few different starters and all were very good. Main course 'doner' is very well presented and deserves recognition. The traditional Turkish rice with chickpea complemented the dish. Thank you!

Loverly food, absolutely top notch. The new owners of this restaurant provided a fantastic experience not just fantastic food. Very good value for money and would love to go back there. The hummus was to die for! ❤️

Made a booking for the first weekend after lockdown 2. Felt very safe, all guidelines adheres to.Great range of authentic dishes which completely lived up to expectations. Spoilt for choice. We visited last night as we were staying locally. The food was absolutely amazing! We had a sharing vegetarian starter platter which had huge amount on, we didn’t realise how big it would be and didn’t eat it all. I had the halloumi main & husband had the meatballs. Both meals were so tasty, huge portions & would highly recommend. The chef (I’m assuming!) bought out our meals & explained what each dish was which was & came halfway through to ensure food was ok, a really nice touch!! When in the area I’ll be back. I’ve seen they also have a cafe in Colchester (where I’m from, so will be trying this out too!) Thank you!

Excellent location, close to the Regent theatre, the food was excellent and priced very well. To prompt us to revisit in a couple of weeks time. booking a hotel and the main agenda will be to book this restaurant again, as part of our day. The waitress was on the ball throughout our stay. Family which included two hungry kids had a delicious meal out recently. The selection of dishes was huge and the menu easy to understand. The waitress was very helpful with any questions we had. We left full and satisfied after a delicious meal.

We booked this restaurant based on all the excellent reviews. What a let down! The decor was lovely and staff friendly but the food was distinctly average. We had the mixed meze for 2 which was pretty pricey for what it was. Usually you are so stuffed after this that you don’t want the main... there was no danger of that here. I am not an advocate of massive portions because of the waste, but the price should reflect this. Also the bread was just a shop bought pitta bread sliced up. Having lived in London and had the excellent Turkish bread there, this was my biggest disappointment. For mains I had an aubergine bake which was the sort of thing I chuck together at home if I have lots of bits in the fridge to use up! Basically an aubergine with bits of carrot, mushroom, baby corn and mange tout on top with some cheese that seemed like mozzarella... not what I’d really associate with Turkish cuisine. All in all, there was nothing to ‘complain’ about as such, in that it was all edible. Just not what we were hoping for having read all the glowing reviews ... shame!

Alarturka is by far my favourite restaurant in Ipswich. A friendly, authentic Turkish restaurant with a wonderful ambiance and lovely bright decoration. We are always greeted with a warm welcome by the owner, and this last time was no exception. The food and menu choice are excellent, and with so many favourites on the menu, it is sometimes hard to choose, and the staff are always willing and able to recommend dishes to try. The quality of the food is high and the flavours are delicious alongside the freshly baked bread. I really enjoyed the Alarturka special this time. Always love eating here, I highly recommend and I can't wait to return again for another great evening out. Thanks to all at Alaturka.

I Booked this via Groupon recently and I am so glad I did , we were going to see Rob Becket at the Regent theatre along with the rest of restaurant I suspect. From the moment we entered you felt welcome, the waitress was friendly and the food excellent it was was authentic yet simple I can't say enough about this place will definitely return!!As for the fresh Turkish delight to finish the meal was a lovely touch all I can remember as a kid is Cadburys poor impersonation of it!

We have been to this restaurant several times, it's a great venue for pre- theatre dinner.We started with a Meze which we chose ourselves from the cold choice of starters on the menu. Main course of Tavuk Iskender with Pide bread and my wife had Guvec with Halloumi both delicious. Enjoyed a bottle of Turkish wine with the meal what could be better.Staff very friendly and helpful.

The food was amazing, the ambiance was warm and friendly. The staff were very welcoming. It was a pre theatre meal before going to the Regent and our timing was managed well. One of the reasons to choose Alaturka was a close proximity to the theatre. What a lucky find!

You can definitely taste the quality of the food. It’s also packed with lots of flavour. The service was very good and the staff were all helpful. I really loved the design and cleanliness of the restaurant itself- very warm and welcoming :) will definitely be back!!!

First visit here last night pre Henning Wehn show at Regent. Superb, friendly and would definitely visit again and highly reccomend. When the wine we wanted wsn't available the hostess upgraded us for free - how many restaurants would do that? Loveley meze started and meats grilled to perfection. Great.

Been here a few times before and always been good. Tonight the food was really dissapointing. The service was also very slow. Can't understand as the the place was half empty on a Saturday night so you would expect the staff would be able to cope with a few tables. The bill came to over 100 pounds and left feeling very dissapointed. The standard of food has definitely gone down hill. No flavour and no salad dips etc like in other Turkish restaurants. Will not be back as ipswich has far better turkish cuisine to offer.

Came here with a friend for a light meal and a few drinks. We booked quite last minute and being a Saturday night I thought we'd struggle to get in, they could accommodate which was a great surprise, they also let us push our table back by half an hour because our bus was late, so they were very accommodating. But I realise the reason that they were so accommodating is that they were empty, there was one other table in there all night, and they left at around 09:15, so we sat all alone for the majority of our meal which felt quite odd.

Went to Alaturka yesterday and really enjoyed it. Friendly, attentive staff, great food and very clean. I started with a Turkish tea.. then the elite beef and lamb kebab, with the Turkish ice-cream and Turkish coffee. Perfect meal! Will definitely return! Much better than other places on the high street :)

You are def treated different as a groupon , I once loved to come here , sadly the service had dropped . Food has decreased in size & they favour other customers especially if your big drinkers, this is highly noticeable. I have eaten at this restaurant on many occasions since it opened, I do love the food but the customer service has gone from 5 stars to 1 and it’s from original staff not the new ones.

Had a lovely main course and wine via the groupon system. We have been before a few times but always midweek and taking advantage of any offers that keep it affordable.

Always always impressed by the high standards at Alaturka. The owner and staff are very attentive and friendly. Every time I visit I feel like I'm one of the family. Their selection of foods are varied and all delicious, which satisfies all our friends and family who we have introduced Alaturka to. This has become one of our favourite restaurants. They have been very accommodating since I became vegan. Their vegan menu is definitely worth checking out.

What a great place . Lovely food form starters to the lovely Turkish delight. We have been there 4 times now and always good. Can’t wait to go back.

This was our third visit to this lovely restaurant and once again we had a wonderful meal full of flavour. I particularly enjoyed my starter of garlic prawns and avacado on artisan bread whilst my husband enjoyed the Alaturka special. All reasonably priced and very friendly staff.

I have a Tastecard so wanted to take advantage of the midweek 241 meals it offers at Alaturka. The food was delicious (we ordered the Mixed Meze for 2 to start & then a shared BBQ Meat Platter). Both courses were generous in size (but not overbearing) and full of flavour. My 10 year old daughter ordered a Turkish Chicken Stew for her main which she also really enjoyed also. Lovely staff & a very pretty interior within the restaurant. We will definitely be going back.

We love Turkish food and as we were visiting Ipswich to see a show, decided to visit this lovely restaurant. Good choice of Meze starters and tasty main courses, some nice Turkish wine an added bonus.

Never been before, but have to say I will return and instead of usually going to an Indian or Chinese in Ipswich, and not wanting to eat what you can cook at home, it made a nice change.

We had a great evening on Friday, in the private dining room. Semra made us very welcome, and all requests for dietary needs were carefully and thoughtfully met. House wine is excellent, service excellent , interesting plentiful and varied dishes. Great hospitality which made our dance night relaxed and comfortable .We will return !

Had a family meal at Alaturka and the decor and service was very good. However there are some other, very good Turkish restaurants in Ipswich and I fear Alaturka may be resting on it's laurels a little.

This is the second time I have been to Alaturka and I have been very impressed both times. It is a lovely restaurant, very friendly, helpful staff and excellent food. I will be returning and would definitely recommend anyone to go. Also its location is great for The Regent and also the town centre.

We went on the 9th of Feb for the first time and was very impressed with the whole experience. There was nothing that I can fault and the attentive/friendly staff were great. I have had food in a few of the Turkish restaurants in Ipswich and will definitely be coming back to this one.

Visited Alaturka restaurant on Friday with my wife and 2 friends.Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a variety of meals which were presented nicely. Our first trip to a Turkish restaurant so some of the food was new to us. Overall very good and will certainly go again.

Came on a Saturday night, the restaurant was very busy and the atmosphere was great. Chef’s mezze was yummy and we enjoyed the mixed grill. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Very good value for money. Thanks Alaturka for our unforgettable experience.

Went to Alaturka yesterday for a meal before we went to the Regent and we were very impressed. The staff were very friendly and attentive and as it was our first visit they offered us some suggestions on what to have. We took their advice and it was very tasty and filling.... we shared an Alaturka Meze Platter for 2 and also a Karisik Izgara for 2. Excellent evening

We visited this gorgeous little place for a date night and were impressed with how good it looked and the romantic atmosphere. We were a bit concerned by the service because it took about 10-15 minutes for us to get menus and for anyone to take our drinks order, although the restaurant did look short staffed. Nevertheless we dived into our starters which were the highlight of the meal - mezzo chosen by the chef, which we thought was a nice touch. We did feel a bit let down by the mains - we had the special and felt the meat was a bit chewy and most of the portion was made up of bread, which again struck us as odd. It was flavoursome though. Although it was nice to have a break between mains and dessert, we felt ours was a little too long and when we tried to get the attention of our waitress she was sat down talking to a customer, which would have been fine if it hadn’t have been for so long, about 10 minutes or so. We were meeting friends later in the evening and although we had some time, this put us on edge and made us worry that we may be late. The same happened when we wanted the bill, and my partner felt it better to go up to the bar rather than wait. The desserts and coffee selection were nice but we found the baklava a little on the savoury side. This was a tasty meal but was let down by service, we’d like to try it again on a less busy night as we felt it may have been because there were more customers than usual, and the restaurant appeared short staffed.

Always looking forward Turkish dining. Great little restaurant, wonderful service, really attentive staff, can't fault them at all. Generally the food was excellent however I do prefer a little more heat and bigger flavours in my food especially the casseroles. Nice mezze to share, really nice, but again a little more heat and maybe some different textures as too many yoghurt/sauce based foods can become too sloppy. More Sucuk maybe, a little light on the Turkish sausage. Nice dining experience well done.

Three of us had a meal yesterday before a gig and we were hugely impressed. We had the chicken and lamb casseroles, which were so flavoursome. Service from the lady who owns the restaurant was notable too- friendly and attentive. And to top it all, trusting. At the end the card machine wasn't working, so she said "you can either come back after the concert with cash or pay by transfer when you get home". No need to leave any security, just left it on trust. We paid by transfer. This is something we have seen time and time again from people from that region- trust and generosity.

Very nice all round. The atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed. Table service excellent - prompt, attentive but nothing hurried. And the food - lovely - wonderful tastes, just the right amount and great vfm. We will return.

We had a lovely meal here on Tuesday 9th October. It was the best Turkish meal I’ve had in Ipswich, better than Mahzen. The lady who served us was so lovely(don’t know what happened to previous reviewer but we were treated warmly & nothing was too much trouble even though we had booked via Groupon)

Very strange experience. The lady serving me and my friend looked as though she didn't want us in there (the only two people in the restaurant and now i see why). Once we had eaten (food was edible) we were chatting and the lady came over quite aggressively and butted in to yank our plates away. It was so abrupt and rude we both just sat there looking at each other in wondering what we had done wrong! She then stopped walking and turned around still holding our plates to say to us “are you talking to me!?” So confused, we replied that we hadnt said anything. She was so stroppy, slamming things about with the continuous look on her face like she had just trodden in s**t. Ive never been treated like that by a restaurant owner or any staff member in my life. NEVER again will i waste my time. Must have been the words ‘taste card’!!

Went last week for a groupon meal we had mixed maze which was good but very pricey for what you got( several dips a couple of slices of sausage and some salad and haloumi

As you walk in the door and are greeted and seated the atmosphere comes alive. Everything is explained and soon after ordering you food is served. The aromas and taste is unbelievable. You must try it soon. Turkish food at it's finest !!!

Tucked away just outside the town centre this is a small Turkish restaurant (only 8 or 9 tables) but immediately creates that sense of authenticity not simply because of the decor or the regular presence of the (native) owner on the floor but also by looking at the menu and, of course, by savouring the dishes. It has also racked up a few local accolades during the years and - unlike many other places of similar size - has survived and flourished. The opening times are somewhat restrictive and the prices are at least mid-range (if not towards the more expensive end of the scale) but is definitely worth a visit if you want to try something "off the beaten path" (such as Chinese, Thai or Indian).

Visited here on Friday, experienced a heatwave as well as a thunderstorm, believe would benefit from aircon but we survived as were close to a window, was told there was a controlled fan but wasn’t evident! Starters had mixed hot and cold meze platter, which were very good and gave us a good experience for next visit to chose individual dishes, chefs special for mains was also good although I couldn’t really notice that much difference in taste to what my partner had but then that was good also!!

We went last night as we had said about going for a long time, the manager was very nice, and the food was amazing would recommend to anyone. Made to feel very welcome and no pressure to get you to leave.its a very homely feel, when you reserve a table it’s yours for the evening Highly recommended

Semra and the brilliant team at Alaturka pulled out all the stops to make our wedding breakfast incredible! The food was opulent and delicious, the hospitality was welcoming and warm, the interior is beautifully decorated and colourful. We love to dine here just the two of us or with friends, and we are both so glad we chose Alaturka for our big day. Thank you!

We’ve eaten here several times as a couple or with a couple of friends. The food is always fantastic, and the staff so friendly.

Sad to have chose this place to eat on only my last night in Ipswich! Food was brilliant and so was the service. My needs were catered to and coming from a the industry myself I would highly reccomend!

Ate here with my son. The restaurant was pleasantly full but not overly noisy, and feels authentically Turkish. Meze (tailored to vegetarian tastes), meatballs, baklava and traditional Turkish tea all very good. Staff were very friendly and attentive without being over-present. Really nice evening

Shared a meze platter to start between four, which was fantastic, although interestingly everyone had different favourites. Then shared a mixed grill that was also lovely and the food and decor were quite authentic reminding me of my past holidays to Turkey. The restaurant surprisingly wasn't that busy for a Friday night and we got in without a booking, which was good for us as we had a lovely meal.

We visited last Saturday. It was busy but not full and the ambience was nice and the staff were friendly. We chose the Humus Kavurma to share for a starter. It was delicious and enough for 2. My wife chose the Kuzu Iskender for her main dish which she enjoyed. I opted for the Tavuk Guvec which might have been lovely if it were not so over-dominated by salt to the point that half way through the dish I could not eat any more as it was making me feel ill. We had a side dish of pan fried vehetables which were varied and nicely cooked although very oily. When the waiter cleared the plates I pointed out that I could not finish my dish because the salt was over-bearing but the only response I got was something muttered quietly and no real sign of concern or offer to rectify the disappointment. We paid and left but will not be going back, not so much because of the salty food, which may have just been a mistake, but the fact that they didn't seem to care that we were not satisfied.

Now that’s what I call food! My partner and I love holidaying in turkey, so to find an authentic Turkish restaurant so close to where we live was a real treat. We will definitely be returning!

Once again I received flawless service, great atmosphere and delicious food. I had a table of 13 for a birthday and everyone is still talking about it. Would highly recommend.

We had our works Christmas meal at Alaturka this weekend and it was a superb night! The food was delicious, the staff couldn't do enough to ensure we enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere was amazing. We couldn't help but get completely swept up in the energy and had the best night!

Our visit to Alaturka perhaps didn't really do it justice as we were on a 'bit of a hurry up' as we were going to a show at The Regent. We explained this to the waiter who greeted us and he said "No Problem!"...and it certainly was no problem! We had agreed between ourselves that we would probably only have two courses...well, three courses later we were paying the bill and walking down to the theatre all agreeing that we MUST return and this time make it a leisurely meal!

I can honestly say that Alaturka was a fantastic dining experience. A group of us went last Friday with the majority not having eating there previously. It had come recommended and we were certainly not left disappointed. The food was excellent as was the atmosphere and the service. I have already booked to go back. I would highly recommend you try this gem of a restaurant.

Fantastic evening, far exceeded our expectations. Food was really good and staff so friendly and service excellent. Have also visited this restaurant on other occasions and the a la carte is so good.

A great fun evening upstairs watching belly dancing (and taking part). Staff very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Nice family atmosphere. If I had my time again I wouldn't go for the set-menu - it was a bit samey - grilled meats, rice & salad - with a veggie offering that was too falafel focused and not enough variety. Stick with the a la carte menu which looked really nice and choose what you want. I'd certainly go again.

What a great restaurant, the food was amazing and the service was first class. Will definitely be visiting again.

An enjoyable experience all round. Pleasant staff, nice food. We ordered the six mezzes as a shared starter, we got eight, plus bread and a small salad. All were very tasty. Main courses were excellent also. We didn't have desserts as we were due at the theatre (and were full !), but we had plenty of time if we had wanted some.

This is a fantastic restaurant! Really lovely atmosphere on the Saturday evening when we visited. The staff could not have been friendlier or more attentive and delicious food came out with minimal delay. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. My only regret is living 200 miles away and so am unlikely to sample more of the amazing menu!
