Really disappointed in this place, unprofessional staff & bad coffee, there are many nicer cafés than this. It used to be a really nice cafe but it has definitely gone downhill.

Okay, it’s well over 2 years since my last Gaslight review, when I said then that it was a Superb Café, and worthy of attendance. Unfortunately since that time I did visit a few months ago for Coffee, and had an unimpressed time as a party of Women and their Children were noisily disturbing the peace, with the added inclusion of the Café’s owner who clearly knew them, but I put that visit down to being unlucky, so I didn’t report on it. However this visit was equally as poor inasmuch as although it was relatively peaceful in there, the quality of the Coffee I had was poor with little flavour, and it was not that hot. My Wife said that her Cappuccino was also tasteless and luke warm as well, added to which the Lemon Cake which she had, and that I sampled, lacked Lemon taste, and was dry going on stale. The fact that we left over half the Cake and most of her Cappuccino was testament to what we were served. All in all a very disappointing experience, and as such I don’t think I’ll be going out of my way to visit again.

The Gaslight Café is small and wonderfully formed. Station Café atmosphere (trains still stop at the station up to four times an hour), with food far finer than every graced a 'British Rail buffet'. The live music is awesome, from fine local bands to musicians who have, and still do, occupied big stages with top names, yet have set down roots on the Island.

Such a lovely atmosphere lovely helpful staff and had a nice chilli and rice and great ice cream sundae! Music nights are brilliant but you need to get your ticket quickly as there is only limited space for about 30 people. Love this venue.

I say hidden-ish, because it in Sandown Train Station, on the main IOW Tube Line, but it's easy to miss if you're not paying much attention. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted, and instantly felt welcome. It was exactly what I needed after a long walk through the neighbouring town of Shanklin.I ordered a Breakfast Baguette (pictured) and a Cup of Tea, which came to £5.20.I personally believe it to be well worth the value - the food was excellent and generously portioned. It felt like a mixture of "old timey" train tea rooms, combined with the feeling of being back home with Mum's cooking. In short, if you're on the Island, or traveling to the Isle of Wight, take the wonderful 1930's tube train up to Sandown, and pay this beautiful little spot a visit.

We arrived at Sandown station and the the weather was turning to rain. We decide to lunch at the Gaslight Cafe before walking out to the sea front. What a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent and the service equally so. Highly recommended - more so if you like traditional jazz! The clouds burst while we enjoyed 'all day' type breakfasts - who cares about the weather!

Nice little cafe in the former booking office at Sandown Station which has been open a couple of years. Furnished with old rail memorabilia and 1940's stuff. There's a good selection of snacks suitable for both breakfast and lunch as well as a selection of cakes and hot drinks.

I heard a great lot of things about this cafe before going to Isle of Wight and Sandown and on first impression lets say I was not overwhelmed at the appearance. This looks like a cafe that operates out of train station and manned by a solitary (and very cheerful and charming I must say) lady. So I was bit apprehensive but then when we ordered the classic British breakfasts (so many of them were on offer) and the sandwiches and baguettes we know why this place is so highly rated. All the food was simply outstanding ! We tried this place again for a dinner and again found everything we ordered to be super tasty. Many a times there are live performances for dinner and that time the cafe is pre-booked so do enquire before going there for a dinner. The ambience of the cafe is also very much retro, adorned with railway paraphernalia and photographs of the past. A place not to be missed if you are in Sandown.

What a wonderful little place. Quirky and fun. We went to the Gaslight Cafe last night for the first time and will definitely be back. It was Vintage night with the Bunker Girls singing. Great atmosphere and lovely to see this little cafe being made the most of by enthusiastic people. This is just one of the many evenings of entertainment that they have each month and is well worth dipping your toes in and having some fun.

After checking on the website for opening times, which stated open, we travelled across from Freshwater to visit after cafe was recommended to us. Unfortunately it was a wasted trip as cafe was closed. Please could you make sure your website is up to date. We will try again and hopefully we will be able to give 5 stars when we get in there and taste the cakes.

Never looks much when passing through on the train but, although it's not overly big inside, it's clean with friendly staff (who dealt with a party of 16+ quickly and efficiently). Albeit most of us only had coffee / tea but the menu looked appealing if we'd had more time. Full English breakfast, sandwiches (toasted as well), baguettes, salads through to afternoon teas, all reasonably priced. Maybe the first visit - but not the last.

Based in what was shanklin's former station at one time, you will find the Gas Light. We popped in for a snack as we had arrived early for our train. Hubby had a bacon bagget and I sampled one of the tea cakes.

Stopped for a cream tea which the wife enjoyed. Usual 2 scones provided with jam and clotted cream and a good pot of tea. They normally do Gluten Free cream tea but due to high demand had sold out of GF scones. They were however able to supply GF cheese scones so I had a savoury version of cream tea, 2 GF cheese scones, a tomato chutney and a cream cheese. Was very nice and would recommend.

A very peaceful place to stay, in the centre of Newport, conveniently located, close to the bus station and to restaurants. Charming interiors, with a lot of character. Spacious, comfortable and clean room. Breakfast is served, and freshly prepared after the order is made. Hostess is friendly and Staff polite. We will definitely stay there again!

Stopped here for tea and we're so glad we did. Loose leaf tea in a china tea pot (not one of those awful stainless steel ones that dribbles all over the table), a tea strainer, china cups and saucers and a china milk jug - this is how tea should be served. The Bakewell slice and chocolate cake were both delicious and the portions very generous. The friendly welcome and engaging staff added to the enjoyment. Looking forward to the next visit.
