The Lapstone Retaurant And Bar in Southampton

From the moment we got there the service was rubbish, we tried ordering drinks only for the bar staff to serve their friends and locals first even though we were there before most of them. After being shown to our table had to wait about half a hour to get our food order taken then seemed like an age for the food to come out. Not once did anyone ask if anyone had any food allergies! First meal out they left the chicken of the pasta then had to wait 2 minutes in between each meal to come out for the 6 of us. 2 people had lasagna which was was only warm on the outside, 3 of us had the swordfish which was covered in some kind of butter and 1 plate had 12 olives and the other 2 had 3. Asked 3 members of staff for water for the table. Had to keep asking for service as no bar staff seemed to be bothered to come check on us as they were too busy chatting to each other. There were about 6 young members of staff but no leadership as they only seemed bothered serving all the locals and youngsters which there were lots off and chatting to them all. I could carry on with complaints but there wouldn’t be enough characters!

A lovely pub, great staff, good range of drinks and lovely decor. Certainly the best local I’ve ever had really pleased and it’s there and always look forward to going.

Disappointing meal. Ordered monk fish linguine. Was covered in oil and tasteless. Told waitress. No offer of a free drink or pudding just said she would tell the chef.

No idea why there are so many bad reviews - spotted it and had to comment! Every time I've been they've been SO good. Pizza's good, lattes are good, seats are cozy, staff are friendly and they do gluten free options and vegan cheese and plant based milks. IT's actually somewhere we regularly recommend to friends and family

Catch up with friends., welcome non existent, service cold, no atmosphere & staff bitching ... a negative environment. Heard many sad things about this place, staff turnover, but motivation comes from the top & they don't seem to have a leader.

Very friendly staff and met up with friends for Christmas catch up. Very noisy and had to ask to be moved as couldn’t hear ourself speak but we liked the table but moved right to back on a bench which ruined my jumper where it got caught and got pulled. mentioned to staff and took pictures and landlord was going to contact me but didn’t. I’m ordered the pie which was nice but the seasonal veg was about 4 or 5 slices of carrot and about 5 sprouts which were bland and felt that they had been reheated and quite tough. I also asked for roast potatoes as not a lover of mash and they were generous with that but unfortunately tasted reheated but very Luke warm.

Visited here several times and have never been disappointed.... Pizzas are freshly baked and ate better than any I have had from Prezzo etc... Staff great,service always good,and priced very fairly.... especially lunchtime specials... Once again don't understand the bad reviews...can only state as I see it,and will keep going back And no...have no association with anyone at the venue,just like to see fair reviews...Roy Young

Worst vegan offering ever! Two slices of dry white bread with a slice of tomato in each triangle and a bit of a leaf from an iceburg lettuce in a couple of triangles. I would definitely not recommend eating here.

We went for lunch and ordered lasagne with salad. Service was very slow about 35 mins wait. Told we wouldn’t be charged for drinks because of this. Salad was very tired and one of the lasagnes was burnt black and inedible. Manager took one look when my husband complained and agreed. Offered something else but given the long wait we’d had we declined. Wanted to take our grandchildren for a meal in the domes but won’t be going back.

This place should be a great place. It has a nice atmosphere. It is well decorated and clean. It has a good selection of food and overpriced drink. But every time we visit, the service is a let down. They close the kitchen when they are too busy, even though the place is half empty. They close early all the time. The service is friendly, but just poor in general. The service experience in the local Hungry Horse is now better. Every time we go, there is always a let down. So that is what we have come to call it. 'The Letdown'

Worst meal I have had in a long time, the roasts where awful, the potatoes were raw in the middle and the veg seemed like it was dipped in water for a few seconds, the pizza bases must be bought in as we sat near the open kitchen and saw no dough being made what we did see however was the chef wipe his nose with his fingers and then touch the food, would definitely not visit again should have trusted the reviews on here and not given the place a chance

Food is of poor quality, we had what are advertised on the menu as "homemade beer battered onion rings" we were given a bowl of frozen breadcrumbed onion rings the sort you would source from Iceland frozen foods, why mislead your customers in such an insulting way? Serve what you advertise on your menu or change you menu. The rocket was not fresh, it was going yellow. The sausages were clearly pre-cooked then reheated and so over cooked it was difficult to bite into them, the gravy was bland and the mash was over microwaved. It is a shame you can't offer better quality food because the actual pub is lovely. There were lots of staff behind the food bar not really doing alot! Can't see this pub lasting too long if things don't change significantly.

I took my son for a treat…. Long time ago I had pizza and was delicious! Unfortunately not today, ready made pizza base, seafood was from can or frozen - very chewy. My sons meaty one was as bad. Had a slice, took rest home to show my friend if I am not mistaken. £32 for something what could be done much better way and my son and I could be happier.

Continuous disappointment at the lapstone. If it wasn’t our local we just wouldn’t come back! Always ‘sold out’ of food and won’t even serve chips - guys do you realise how much custom you are turning away? Chips and pizza dough is very cheap and you always have lots of 30 year olds willing to pay over the odds after a drink for food! Love the owner, but it is so poorly run! Needs a manager with attention to detail to ensure the finer details are up to scratch!

We visited on a really busy night. A great atmosphere.....mainly drinkers 20-30 age group. However, the food was really disappointing. We've eaten at The Lapstone before and had to send our food back a while ago but wanted to give it a second chance. The vegan burger (although I'm not vegan but thought it sounded nice) was really dry in a cheap white bread roll and just a drop of tomato sauce. A bit of dry lettuce on the side with no dressing and some average chips. My friend had gammon and didn't think it was cooked, so she left quite a bit. We did mention it to the waitress and she was really apologetic and we were offered our wine free of charge. Come on guys you can do much better than this, especially at £16.95 for the dry old burger!! It's really not that difficult

This was the best evening we’ve had for some time. We dined in the dome, from start to finish the experience was perfect. Massive thanks to our waitress Poppy who was attentive, knowledgable and a breathe of fresh air. The food was fresh, tasty and very well received. The cocktails were also really lovely and very well made. 10/10 for a local pub!

I recommended this to my business friend to see if much has changed since it opened.. My guest was impressed that they still have one original member of staff which is Italian and the heartbeat of this place Marco. However, sadly my friend he was not impressed, drink/food overpriced - London prices for a suburb pub - my friends comment also with zero atmosphere. Although he appreciated the decor and refurbishment the property has undergone. Passion comes from the heart when owning and growing a business not sure if the owner fully thought though the community, loyalty aspect for this venture as it is not a weekly dine out for locals with families.

An absolutely amazing experience. The food was superb (we had mainly roasts and a fantastic seafood pizza). The staff were extremely friendly and attentive and as we were finishing, we booked again for next weekend we were so impressed.
