My mate and I found ourselves caught short whilst hiking to a camp ground (that was no longer open) we came into the pub after dark for a meal, a pint and to figure out our next move and ended up staying for the evening. Mark (the landlord) made sure we had a beautiful cosy bed for the night (despite the place being fully booked) made sure we felt welcomed and cosy. Honestly a beautiful little find filled with friendly faces and warmth. Thank you so much. We will definitely be back X

We stayed 1 night, the room, recently refurbished was nice and beds comfortable, but the shower, although new, was a little weedy in power. And no mirror in the room (just to point out). Hosts were great and the fry up was fantastic. The pub itself, personally lacked that rustic homely feel, despite having 2 log fires. Could benefit with an update and less harsh lighting.

We stayed at The Lantern Pike as we were attending a wake there. From entering the pub to going home, it was a joy! Our superior room had lovely views. The room was spotless and spacious and had everything we needed. Comfy bed, crisp sheets, and plenty of tea and coffee! The bathroom was big, and the bath towels were enormous! Lovely. Not the usual inadequate bath towels, you may find in other hotels. Mark and his staff worked hard to look after everyone. The food was delicious and plenty of it. All his staff are friendly, smiling, and helpful. The bar is very traditional with a cosy atmosphere. We couldn't fault anything during our stay. And we will definitely return.

Stayed here for a hiking weekend. Fantastic base - can walk from the front door to Kinder Scout! Comfortable rooms - although they are in the process of being done up - and good food! I think the best thing about the stay was how Mark really was a fantastic host. We underestimated how long our walk would be on the Sunday and when we arrived back the kitchen was closed. We didn't even have to ask - Mark insisted that he rustle us up a full plate of food each so we wouldn't go hungry and he made us feel like it wasn't any problem at all! Really top service all weekend and would definitely recommend a stay here if you're visiting the area.

Not one for giving bad reviews and hopefully for them this was a one off as other reviews seem favourable. We had mushrooms in garlic creamy sauce for starter, probably should have walked after that tbh. The sauce was like water and the mushrooms were straight out of the freezer, watery inside and quite frankly rubbish, the warm bread it should have come with was thin brown sliced bread toasted. The mains came out, gammon and the steak pie, to be far the steak pie was ok but the gammon tasted like it had been boiled, not sure, it wasnt nice though. The chips were from the freezer, there were no peas with the pie so a bowl of overcooked veg was brought out. On payment it was clear we weren't overly impressed with the food and who I thought was the chef said the chef was off sick, now I'm not being funny, if you can't cook the simplest of meals like what we ordered you shouldn't be putting out rubbish and risking a review like this!! Oh and we went to sit by the window until we saw all the bugs crawling round, zoom in on the picture.

Lovely. Countryside pub with a charming rustic feel. Busy for drinks & grub. Went in for tea with my lad on Saturday and a gorgeous 15 min walk up the beautiful track in the shadow of magnificent Lantern Pike hill from Hayfield village. Sat in the beer garden for a thirst quencher then went inside for sausage/mash & the Lamb shank for me. Really impressed with the informal friendly service. Our meals were bang on. 🙂. We shared a sticky toffee pudding before walking home that my Son said was the best ever; I couldn't disagree. We've had Sunday roast in there a few weeks ago and that enticed us back. Great stuff all round. The Lantern's a Peak District gem.

We were out walking and popped in for a drink and a rest. There was 4 of us and 2 dogs. The gentleman at the bar was very welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. He was lovely to our doggies, Henry and Bailey, giving them some biscuits and a bowl of water. Henry was smitten with him and let him feed him with treats and pet him. Bailey was so relaxed he fell asleep! I didn't catch the man's name but his customer service skills was spot on. Pub was cosy and was a welcome pit stop on our travels. Also the cheesy chips was very nice. Thank you for making our visit so nice. We will be back when we are in the area. Top pub with a top barman. 👍😊

PHONE AHEAD TO CHECK IT’S ACTUALLY OPEN! We checked the website and Google maps before setting off on a walk to this pub. When we arrived the boards outside indicated it should be open but the doors were shut. We went round to the back to find 3 equally bemused groups of people. We had a one night stay here, what an amazing experience!!! I can not recommend this place enough! The drive up to the pub we were amazed at the views, we actually sat in our car for a few minutes to just take it all in! We had a lovely warm welcome from the hosts, our room was basic but lovely everything we needed and with again amazing views, it was so peaceful. We unfortunately missed having dinner here as we went for a long walk but we were allowed to order food to the garden and we had drinks and even had a few shots, although we were in a pub on a Saturday night we were expecting to hear people, but we didn't hear anything from our room and we had our window open all night! Great night sleep! Went down for breakfast and it was amazing!! Food was fresh and of good quality. We spoke to the owner for a good while and he told us the history of the pub and surrounding areas and where to go for a good hike which was fantastic as we did no research of the area before we arrived. Went back to the pub for the afternoon and had a Sunday lunch again amazing fresh and good quality, sat and spoke with Mark (the owner) and he treated us like we were friends! We had an amazing time! I highly recommend 👌

Thought we would try the Lantern Pike in Little Hayfield for an evening meal, as it is under new ownership. The place doesn't seem sure whether they want to be a restaurant or a pub, as music was playing too loudly for a restaurant. We were presented with plastic menus, which never looks great. Ordered a beef curry and gluten free roast dinners. The waiting on staff said the gravy wasn't gluten free, but returned to say that it was. The curry was average at best and cooked in a microwave, with gloopy rice which had been reheated. The roast was cold, with pre cooked beef. The mashed potato was very unappetising. The food was on a par with a motorway service station. The evening was ruined by a foul mouthed woman at the bar effing and blinding for a good 15 minutes and telling everyone how fat and ugly she was. Nothing was done. The young waiters and waitresses were trying their best, but the owners need to take more control and improve the standards of what should be a lovely country pub. Very disappointing.

The people who run the place are a delight but the bedrooms are less shiny! The bed was ancient with loose springs and the shower ran either scalding or freezing so impossible to use. The floor in the bathroom was spongy and holey under the Lino so felt insecure and the tv was smaller than a laptop screen! Good job we didn’t really want to watch much. The food was good, well cooked and a decent menu. Not too much vegetarian to choose from unfortunately. There were a lot of locals using the pub for food. Reasonable prices. Breakfast was ok.

My partner and I used to regularly visit the Lantern Pike for a meal, but having been busy, haven't had much time.

We dropped in on a Saturday lunchtime, there was a roaring fire in the restaurant and our whippet was made most welcome in the Bar area. The menu choices were excellent. I enjoyed chatting to the landlady and admiring her customised ukulele, I asked for , and was rewarded with a sample of ukulele playing !

This is a proper, traditional pub and serves good food and great beer. Friendly staff and a nice cosy bar with lots on original features. The fish is particularly good and everything is freshly home cooked mainly from local ingredients.

Having driven by and seen the CAMRA real ale sign, my husband was keen to walk back from our holiday cottage. It was dark and cold out, but well worth the 20 minute walk from Hayfield ! The pub was warm, inviting and friendly. The menu was small, which is a good sign. We both had one of the specials, chicken linguine. It was utterly delicious! My mulled wine tasted pleasantly spicy and the beer's good too.

The wife and I had a 10% off voucher so we decided to use it before it expired. A Thursday night and it was very quiet. Only one other couple who left as we arrived. A pair of residents arrived after a short while and that was it for customers.

Called in for dinner on the off chance as we hadn't booked a table. No problem, there was plenty of room and we chose a table close to the open log fire (it was a chilly evening!).

We stopped here for lunch and a couple of drinks and found it to be a charming little place - The staff were chatty and helpful and although we only had a sandwich each and chips, it was lovely there.

We spend a couple of days getting away from the Rat Race and walking in the Derbyshire hills. This is a cracking place to base yourself. The food was very, very good; dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Tom & Stella are cracking hosts and Tom's Timmy Taylors is a pint worth the trip alone. The rooms are basic, but spend most of your time in the beautiful Derbyshire hills and you will sleep like a baby. Hight recommended.

Popped into The Lantern Pike for Sunday lunch whilst visiting our daughter in Broadbottom. Very friendly staff and really tasty lunch. There was a lovely log fire burning which made the place lovely and cosy. Good value for money and I would definitely recommend.

Never open at the correct times. Visited three times over the same week and waited 30-60 minutes before giving up and climbing nearby Mam Tor as they were not open even though they said they were.

Tasty breakfast we came here twice after being disappointed with the offerings from the on-site café at the campsite we stayed on. well cooked food and good menu choices. Good value. only slight criticism was quite a long wait for our food but may have been down to fewer staff on one day. will return.
