The Landford Poacher in Wiltshire

We booked a table for Mother's Day about 8 weeks in advance of the date - for our first visit, following a recommendation . We entered through a door near the carvery, and waited patiently to be checked in. After a few minutes of no one acknowledhing us, we decided to find a waitresses and located two standing togather near to a door at the other end of the pub. We were promptly shown to our table, but were horrified to see it 'shoe horned' between other dining tables (the photo fails to show how tight is was, as diners either side had vacated by the time I took the photo). With guests at surrounding tables already seated when we arrived, there was bearly more than a foot at the side of the table in which to squeeze into the seat by the window. I'm not a large built lady, but it would still have presented a challenge! Being NEBOSH certified, this seemed extremely unsafe to me.... what if I dropped hot food onto someone as I tried to take my seat? How quickly could I evacuate in the event of a fire? Despite there being no apparent legislation around seating space (only guidelines), I found this shockingly poor and asked to be seated elsewhere. It took a bit of dialogue between me and the waitresses before I was told that we be seated, providing we left by 2pm! This put us 'on the clock' and was far from relaxing. For a first time visitor, I felt undervalued by the whole experience. In fairness, customer service did improve from that point onward, and we really enjoyed the carvery, but what a real shame that we left feeling so underwhelmed. Will we go back? The jury is still out......

What can I say we we’re staying at the new forest lodge for a weekend away Wich was great We decided on Saturday night to try the landford poacher we weren’t disappointed the staff were very friendly the food was fabulous. The service was excellent even though they were very busy if we are in the area again we would definitely go again . Thankyou for a lovely evening

Our first visit here for a family get together. We travel from all over to be with our 80 year ‘young’ mum. She was treated with respect and kindness. Food superb, (hot and delicious), staff friendly and professional, excellent VfM and clean. We are looking forward to visiting again soon. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Just had a wonderful roast at the Langford poacher, the carvery was plentiful, with choices of meats and vegetables. The option of plate sizes was welcomed given some prefer smaller portions. Also the Bakewell tart was delicious, very ethnically homemade. Worth a visit.

Been here about 3 or 4 times for the Sunday carvery. You always know you are going to get a choice of a great joint of beef or turkey. A marvellous voice of veg & roasties together with gravy. Options of cranberry or horseradish sauce. Puddings are delicious too with Homemade delights. After being constantly disappointed with our local pub for Sunday lunch the Landford Poacher really know how to do it.

Lovely food, well cooked and promptly served. Plenty of parking. Lovely staff who were helpful. They were very careful to make sure my meal was gluten free.

Carvery beef very well cooked friendly service no queueing due to timed booking. Vegetables fresh and well cooked not sat around getting soggy. Gravy 🔥

We visited to celebrate my husband's birthday and had reserved a table for 8 people. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we found the table provided was far too small to accommodate our group comfortably. When I brought this to the attention of the lady in charge of reservations, I was shocked by how poorly she handled the situation. Despite speaking to her politely, she responded bluntly, saying, "If you don’t like it, you can leave!" Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional, which completely soured our experience. Someone with such a lack of people skills should not be in charge of customer service.

This is a well organised pub! They do 2 sittings 12 and 2.15pm in a Sunday and carvery. They had turkey or beef and were generous with the portions. Ample veg to choose from and all really tasty. The servers were all really friendly. This is excellent value for money. Will return!

Incredible homemade food. I had soup of the day (broccoli & stilton) which was really tasty and pie of the day (turkey, sausage, cranberry and stuffing). This was the best pie I have ever had. The chef here is highly skilled! We had a lovely evening next to the log fire. 100% recommend if you want a relaxed atmosphere and homemade food. Only downside was that I was too full up for a dessert!

Great lunch, don't pass this place by. Staff were lovely, and the food delicious. Venison steak cooked perfectly and a fantastic comforting beef lasagne hit the spot. Two fab puds, drinks and coffee £80 for two people, amazing value. Lovely traditional feel, we will return!

This is an excellent venue friendly staff very welcoming this was our first visit but definitely not the last food was excellent and could not be faulted. Cannot wait to try the poachers mixed grill on our next visit thanks to all the staff and especially the chef will see you again soon

Staying nearby at the Green Hill Farm holiday village and saw the reviews for this pub only 5 minutes down the road. It did not disappoint! Lovely home cooked food, huge portions, friendly staff and great warm atmosphere. I had the poacher pie- beef and red wine, my son had the poacher burger and my mum had scampi and chips. We also had deserts- Bakewell tart, apple, blackberry and rhubarb crumble and after eight chocolate brownie. So delicious and good value for money.

The Poacher is a firm favourite great food cooked well and the portions are on the large side. Sunday they do a carvery which is very good value for money. Coupled with friendly attentive service we can’t rate this place highly enough. The only issue is if everyone goes there we will struggle to get a table.

We were staying one night in Landford, and needed to have an evening meal with our large dog, we did not book, but even though the pub was very busy they managed to fit us in, along with our large dog, excellent food and great service, will definitely return next time we are in the area.

Just had the best paella ever, regularly visit Spain and this tops it hands down ! Overall the Poacher is without doubt the best, brilliant staff, brilliant food and always a great atmosphere for a get together with family or friends !

What a gem of a place this is!! We stayed in our campervan with our dog. We did ring ahead out of courtesy, and it was not a problem at all. Car park is relatively flat. We had the most amazing dinner and can’t recommend this place enough! Thank you!! Such an amazing team of people who are just so genuinely lovely and welcoming, as are the locals we met! Wow! What a lovely welcome we were given when we arrived with our Cockapoo, Lottie. We sat outside in the sunshine and Lottie was given a bowl of water. The food was so tasty, we can highly recommend the Korean chilli beef with Asian slaw and the beer battered Brie wedges with cranberry jam and salad, yummy!

If you are looking for a Sunday lunch and staying in the local area you will not find a better Sunday Carvery than the Landford Poacher The portions are very generous the selection of vegetables amazing just remember to book early to avoid disappointment. Absolutely Fantastic 😊😊😊

We have had a great meal again. It was my husband's birthday, and there were balloons and Happy Birthday banners on the table for him. (He was delighted!!!🤣) Everything was perfect, as it was before. First customers of the day for lunch after a family walk nearby. Happy to have kids and dog, staff were really friendly and the food was great. Tasty and massive portions (but smaller portion options available). Will definitely go back.

Called in for lunch, met with a very welcoming member of staff, gave menus advised us of specials, drinks order taken, also food. Not a long wait and food was excellent, good portions, well cooked and extremely value for money. Were checked on to see if all was good. Had deserts, don’t usually, but they were exquisite Roulade and Bakewell tart. Was also advised people with small appetite could have just a starter or a starter and dessert, not many places would do this, so definitely the best place to go.

Passing on the way home from Southampton. Best carvery we have ever had. Didn't have room for dessert. Lovely staff too. Would definitely come again.

This was a pleasant surprise, went for lunch with friends, haven't been to the Landford Poacher in years. Lovely friendly staff, good wine and delicious home cooked food, all at a reasonable price. The portions were large, the menu varied, no hassling by staff, but in view, should you need anything. Would highly recommend as a great pub, certainly nothing to match it within a 10 mile radius.

Great Place ! We stopped here for a quick lunch break on a long drive. Greeted by a big smile & welcome with our order being promptly taken. Food was delicious ! Service was excellent. We had a small lunch ,my partner had home made soup of the day ( potato & carrot ) with hot roll /butter and I had scrumptious mushrooms on toast ! We will be back ! Enjoyable experience 10/10

OMG OMG OMG. We went to this establishment 2 nights in a row. The food was just amazing, Everything was just perfect, the staff are incredible nothing is to much trouble, they made us feel like we were the only people in the place. All in all phenomenal.

We were staying nearby visiting family and were looking for somewhere to eat. The reviews looked good so we decided to give this place a try and were very pleased we did. The team were extremely welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent - I had the lamb cutlets which were super tasty and cooked to perfection. Others had the pork belly, sea bass, lasagne and scampi which were all just as impressive whilst our youngest member requested chips and peas which he thoroughly enjoyed. I definitely recommend paying this place a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

Our first visit having lived in the area for 6 years and never tried, but glad we did. Extensive menu and specials board and good atmosphere. Had the Pie of the day which was steak and red wine which was recommended by Lisa who is front of house and boy was it good! The staff were very attentive and friendly throughout our meal and nothing too much trouble. Will definitely be coming back !

This pub is exceptionally welcoming and congenial, permitting us to park our camper in their car park. There's a delightful dog walk just across the road. Their evening selection of beer and cider is spot on, and the food is simply splendid. We tried both the pie and curry, and each was faultless and delectable. It's also a fantastic place for dogs. Both the staff and the locals are welcoming, making everyone feel thoroughly at home.
