Went to the lancer at the weekend with my family, i realize this pub is a nightclub in the evening so it does look a bit tatty in the light of day, especially the carpets, however the food was really good so hats off to the chef who worked really hard, the bar staff were friendly and efficient. There is a sign outside which states they have a food hygiene award but doesn't say the year?

For the fourth year running our family have enjoyed a Christmas meal at The Lancer. We were a group of 22 and they give us our own area with a welcoming fire. The tables were laid with Santa hats and crackers and we chose from the standard menu as well as the festive menu (meal orders had been emailed prior to the day). The good was very good and the price was so reasonable as were the price of drinks. The service was great and always friendly and helpful. Give it a go next year! Save yourself the hassle at home! We had visitors from London, Surrey, Italy and Germany. Thank you Stu and Dave!

We had a nice family lunch here with friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. It was reasonably priced and tasted fine. I would go again.

I couldn't face cooking, a friend suggested this place, walking in not very busy. Average menu, decent prices, good selection of drinks, beers not particularly well kept. Would I return? Only if nowhere else was available.

Went here for Drinks and food, Party of 3, Found a good spot in the corner, Had a brief look at the Menu, We all decided what we wanted, etc, So over to the bar we go to order food and Drinks, (approx 20.30), ‘Sorry were not serving food’, So after walking past the bar on our way in with the staff looking at you like Thunder, Surely it may have been helpful to maybe mention this before we sat down? I’ve been here a few times over the years, It just dosent seem to improve, Never again. Note: Manager ( If there is one) Don’t bother with one of those, ‘Please e mail me directly’ messages. Don’t waste my time.

10 of us came on 8th December for a family Christmas meal. The service was great, we were looked after but not intruded on. The food was lovely, many of us had different dishes, but all were coo ked to perfection.

Staff Christmas party 10 of us. We all had Christmas dinners. Starters mains & dessert were brilliant. Roast Potatoes were best we have ever tasted. All turned up hot and together. The service was brilliant nothing too much of a problem. Thank You so much

What a lovely Venue! I visited last week for celebration drinks with some work colleagues, and it was perfect! The atmosphere was great and the drinks were delicious! Definitely recommend if you are looking for a great place to spend your evening! Thank you.

Not a bad place but only average food. and I find the place is quite dark and dingy which I don't like. It does have a small garden area outside which is good I wouldn't rush back

Very friendly service and good food (befitting the a town centre pub) Pizza I had was great and was obviously freshly made, I can also highly recommend the day of the dead beer

My wife myself and the grandchildren go to the lancer 2 to 3 times a month for lunch there is a great menu with lots of choice the food is always of good quality and the service is very good nothing is too much trouble

For a change took my Dad here for lunch and nearly did not stay as chairs looked disgusting. Very beer stained? fabric. Decided to try the Sunday lunch and given option Loin of pork or pay extra for lamb shank . We ordered one of each. Doubt it was loin of pork, lamb was a pre-packed boil in the bag and half of plate was fried roast potatoes and a cowpat of mash potatoes. Vegetables practically non existent . Major disappointment. Definitely will not be revisiting and will take my Dad elsewhere.

Been here a few times to drink and eat.Beers are good and the food is also good and it has a wide choice,recommended and dont be fooled by the outside looks,it is really good inside.

We booked for eighteen of us aged between 2 & 66 and were given the "Front room" which worked really well for us. The service was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was very good value and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Popped in for a 'quick' drink with some friends on Saturday, there appeared to be one person serving behind the bar and one clearing tables and serving food. Waited nearly 10 minutes to be served and there were only 3 other people waiting. 👎

This is a great spot for a relaxed good value meal, day time and evening it is great for families, food is good value and good quality and the drinks are reasonably priced.

The Lancer is nice restaurant close to city center. Cozy place to meet friends for a drink, staff is kind and food is good.

Arriving 10 minutes before they finished servicing food, we were promptly served. Food arrived quickly and for under nine pounds the two meals where of excellent quality and quantity.

Lunchtime menu very good. Good choice of food, sandwiches wraps & meals to choose from. Staff very pleasant & efficient.

On a social and having a good night but personally I think this bar needs a Sunday fun day!Dj, music, party games, party atmosphere!Give the buzzard another night of fun, something different for the night life and something for the staff of the nightlife of lb!Ps I'm available Sunday nights

I like coming here for lunch. It's nothing special but the food is nice enough (normally have a toasted sandwich of some kind with chips) and the prices are cheap. Its normally quiet at lunch time and the staff are friendly.

Microwaved cheap food, rude bar staff and underage drinkers. Not a pleasant evening out. Nice decor .

I have been to the Lancer for lunch and dinner on many occasions. The food is reasonable for the price. The kids meals are excellent value and the pizzas are nice (2 for the price of one on Wednesday). My 6 year old likes it as there is plenty of space and there is a car mat, jenga and books for him to play with. I find this pub perfect for a relaxed meal or drink and I am sure we will be visiting again soon.

Well here we were 7 of us on Sunday at 1710. The young lady that met us was very pleasant showed us to a table where three extra places were prepared. Same said lady reappeared shortly after we sat down and announced:1. They had run out of eggs.2. They had run out of pies,3. They had run out of pastry and were unable to make any pies and4. They had sold out of Sunday Roasts.Thank goodness we had not ordered a drink as that allowed us to get up and walk out without food or drink. Very disappointing for an establishment of that size. This was our first visit and we we won't be going back.

Ive been to the lancer a few times through out the year. The staff are always friendly and organised. Having ordered meals on every visit I can say with confidence that the food is consistently great and you just can't go wrong with the pizzas especially the 2 for 1 deal! Cheers

Live locally, and been here 3 or 4 time in the past 20 months, find the staff very friendly, and the service good and the restaurant very comfortable and cosy, ok so we had the two meals for £8.49 and coffees, which wasn't too bad , apart from my wife's chips which were a bit cold and scrappy, her scampi was good and my sausage and mash was fine, but yes certainly would go back again

Lunch and a drink for £6. Great value, accommodating staff, we had a couple of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in training, when dogs aren't allowed in the place. Once explained they understood and let hem stay. Good food well presented and very tasty.

I went with my daughters and four of my grandchildren. The children were aged between four and thirteen. Two jerk chicken pretzel burgers, two jerk salads, a pizza, beef burger and a kiddies fish and chips. The salads were fresh and the jerk chicken breast was tender. The pretzel bap was fresh and different. My only moan would be the lack of a decent jerk flavour. Mind you for £6 a head with a soft drink, there was very little to complain about and no one did. I would definitely lunch there again with the grandchildren.

Bought a Cider and Smirnoff ice, charged £8.35. Overpriced so won't be returning. The pub down the road is a lot cheaper.

We had a Sunday Roast here it was OK plenty of meat, Yorkshire pudding was hard to cut suspect that it had been in the microwave to warm up, parsnip so thin it was like a crisp. Puddings were good. Would not eat here again.

We went to The Lancer for a family meal on Saturday night. We were expecting the usual chain pub grub but were pleasantly surprised by the food. It was fairly quiet but the bar staff told us they get busy later on when the dj starts. What really made the night was the service received, all members of staff were friendly and it looked like a great place to work.

Value for money especially if your taking children before 7pm good menu for the kids a and a varied adult menu

Visit here quite regularly. Remember it as Shades nightclub but has changed massively since my teens. Food is well cooked, good sized portions and good value. Have sports on the big screens and great size portions on the kids meals. A lovely place to take my daughter for lunch

large pub chain establishment but not quite in the Main Street so lunchtime and early evening was very quiet and really pleasant to eat and drink in. Comfortable seating and nice outside area if you are a smoker, preferred it to the other pubs even though we were staying in a Weatherspoon's hotel about 200 yards away.

This venue advertises itself as selling delicious food. It doesn't. We had a quick lunch in here last weekend. I am still kicking myself for not asking for my money back, but that was my own fault. I had the Mexican bean and chicken burrito. The filling was stone cold and quite unpleasant. My partner had a ham and coleslaw sandwich, The sandwich bread was cold. I am not sure whether this had come out of the fridge, or been recently de-frosted. I am opting for the de-frost, as it was certainly cold enough. No butter in the sandwich, or any other kind of spread for that matter. The server couldn't be bothered to offer any bread options (white, brown, granary). I assume they have different types of bread but I could be wrong.I complained, but unfortunately we were starving and had eaten half of our food before we decided that it was too unpleasant to finish. I did say when I complained that I wasn't looking for a refund, or a change of food. I had visions of a ham sandwich being microwaved, coleslaw as well. In hindsight I should have gone for a refund or a free drink at the least. It might have been nice if the manager had said he understood and insisted on some kind of reparation. The curly fries were ok though. So, if you're eating here, opt for fried food, it's tricky to serve that cold.

We had a Xmas party with work here and the food was both reasonable & really tasty. We partied after our booking which saw us leaving at 3am great dj & what a busy place! A few of us decided to spend NYE here and what a night there were laser lights and confetti everywhere! This is our new local! Ps loved the staffs Xmas jumpers!

The Lancer is a pub in the Smith & Jones chain that has recently been renovated, improving the tiredness but making it very dark and gloomy - ideal for their late night trade but not that suitable for daytime lunching. Typical Chain pub fare i.e. your not going to get great food but then again you shouldn't get poor food either. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and sat near the window (so we could see what we were eating), it didn't appear that busy for a Saturday and those that were there were mainly men most of whom were glued to the TV Screens watching sport. Service at the bar was friendly and efficient, on ordering our meals it was pointed out that one of our choices had a Free Drink offer attached, so a Rose wine was chosen, cheapest on the wine list at £3.10 per small glass, bottles of wine ranged from £9.99 to £15.99, small glasses from £3.10 to £4.75. My friend splashed out on cocktails (yes on an afternoon) at £6.99 a go. The Rose wasn't great (but it was the cheapest) and the first cocktail was served in a warm glass. We chose simple meals of Burger and Chips (£5.50) and Sticky Chicken Salad with roasted peppers (also £5.50). No complaints about the food except for the fact that the Peppers were not roasted but just ordinary peppers. The dessert menu was quite small, I would say inadequate, with 2 choices at £2.99 and 1 at £4.50. Our second round of drinks were brought to our table by the friendly waitress. Food is served here until 10pm and there were several offers such as free drink and 2 for 1 meals. A place to visit for a quick lunch and thats about it really, mind you, it is still much better than the Wetherspoons just up the road.
