Ordered food and a couple of drinks at lunchtime. Restaurant not full yet we waited an hour for our lunches to arrive. After politely asking staff where our meals were, we got very gruff responses, and no explanation or apology for the long wait. Paid for our drinks and left. We won’t be going back. It takes nothing to be polite to customers but this was somewhat lacking

Staff very rude and very abrupt and felt rushed in to choosing first course then forgotten about for pudding and upset staff who were organising breakfast when we asked for the bill and we had to eventually get up and pay at the till as staff never came back to collect the payment .Food below standard had burned bits in the pie.

Stayed here 2 nights for the Tattoo, Bus stop right outside hotel so perfect to get into Edinburgh and back again, took about 40mins on the bus one way but that was because of all the stops it had to make, £2 each way so very handy if you wish to have a few drinks while in Edinburgh. Hotel was nice and clean, bedrooms spotless but could do with a bit of modernising, very large conservatory where we had our meals, Staff were very polite, meals were really good, nice and hot😋 large carpark out the back with seating area for having a drink when the sun shines, will definitely be back ..

Stayed here overnight for 1 night as part of a business trip. Booked a twin room. Several areas in the room needed some attention, for example, there was black damp marks around the bath, dust (quite a lot) on the bedside lamp and cobwebs hanging from the ceiling above the bed. The beds were also on casters on a wooden type floor which meant when you leaned against the wall, the bed moved away from the wall - very annoying. There was constant noise coming from the traffic on the road, even with the window shut, this was still heard. However, the bed was extremely comfy and the shower very powerful and warm. Coffee/tea and biscuits were provided in the room. The bar area was lovely and the portions large, fresh, hot and very tasty, decent prices too. Breakfast in the morning was pre-ordered and therefore cooked just for you, which again was hot and fresh, very tasty. Not much choice on breakfast menu, basically cereal and then choice of full English breakfast or combination of rolls and bacon, sausage ect. All was adequate but would have liked fresh fruit, croissants, pastries and the likes. Although limited choice, the breakfast was good. I would stay again.

Just stayed here for 4 nights, visiting the Edinburgh area. Room of adequate size, bed very comfy, nice shower, slept well. Helpful and friendly staff. Had daily breakfast there, three evening meals, all very nice and reasonable prices. Nice Italian restaurant across the road, had lovely meal there also. There is a bus stop directly outside, the No. 31 comes along about every 15 minutes, and it is the best, and easiest way to go into the city centre. The return journey is just as easy, withe the bus stopping directly opposite the pub. The motorway is just over a mile away, so it is very handy if you want to go visiting other places. Will definitely stay there again.

Very disappointed and annoyed with our experience this morning. We love to go here for breakfast and the manager/owner is fantastic...... however, we popped by for a late breakfast this morning (28/3/2024) after checking online that they serve breakfast until 11am (we arrived at 1030am) Only to be greeted by a member of staff who said we stop serving at 1030am. We explained what it said on their website and he said no we only serve til 11am at weekend. We said again, "it states that breakfast served DAILY until 11am, that's false advertising" to which he replied "Ye I know" Very poor attitude and customer service and as we told him it's also false advertising. I think he could do with some customer service training and they need to amend their website. Very disappointed indeed

We have stayed here before, but booked again for 4 of us for the Calcutta Cup weekend (7th-9th Feb 2020). Very clean and tidy and a very good selection of meals available in the restaurant for both evening meals and breakfast. Road outside the pub can be busy, but there is secondary double glazing which reduces any noise at night. All staff are friendly, polite and professional.Situated around 20 mins from central Edinburgh by car/taxi. We travelled up by taxi both nights we stayed there at a cost of between £17-20. Lothian bus service 31 (East Craigs or Polton Mill) from North Bridge takes around 30-45 minutes depending on how busy central Edinburgh is, and stops directly opposite the pub. £1.80 per passenger for a single fare, and you either MUST have the correct money, or, alternatively, each passenger can tap a debit card to pay. Adam, the manager, also told us that if you have tapped more than once per day and reached the bus company’s daily ticket cap, then the ticket last purchased can be used all day. The bus stop into Edinburgh is immediately outside the pub front door.We arrived at 9pm (due to trains being delayed into Edinburgh). Check in is in the main bar area of the pub. It was busy, as it was Friday night, but we only had to wait a few minutes before staff could book us in. All public areas were scrupulously clean and tidy. We learned that the whole pub had been recently freshened up. We were given the family room (one double and one single bed) at no additional cost to the double room that the other two in our party were given. Both rooms overlooked the main road at the front but secondary double glazing kept the noise to a minimum. Both rooms had tea and coffee making facilities; hairdryer; built in clothes storage and chest of drawers. The bathroom facilities included hand wash, shower-gel and shampoo. Bath sheets (rather than bath towels usually offered by hotels) were very welcome. Our bed was very comfortable. All radiators in the room and en-suite could be adjusted to get room to the ambient temperature for guests. We ate at the restaurant on Saturday evening after returning from the Calcutta Cup. Great choice of meals along with further special menu options. We chose fish and chips; venison burger; cajun burger and vegetable lasagne. Two of the party opted for the Toblerone and caramel tart for dessert. All meals were served without too long a wait and were piping hot. The breakfast menu was also very good with several choices. Guests can help themselves to cereal, fruit juice and yoghurt. Tea and coffee top ups are offered bu staff during breakfast.Checkout was quick and easy. Handed our keys in. I’d provided card details when the initial booking was made (at my own request rather than being requested to do so when I booked). We were thanked for our custom.Would we return? Definitely!

We were visiting the Edinburgh festival and this was a short twenty minute bus ride to the Royal Mile. The staff were friendly and helpful, the accommodation was adequate for our needs. Food in the restaurant was good and the breakfast which was included in the price was excellent.

My husband and I went for dinner and as we have been there before thought it would have been good - it wasn't. The customer service was fantastic - couldn't fault it but the food was shockingly bad and I feel that I've been cheated out of £60. The salad which came with the salad was warm, the chicken strips were tasteless and my main wasn't the best sea bass as it was served with what looked like everybody's left overs. I should have complaint but I was drinking wine and didn't realise how bad it was until I got home. I felt terrible for three days and now just recovering for it. My husband felt the same. We won't be returning.

I volunteer here once a week but also go to the Wednesday community lunch where a set 3 course meal is served at 12.30. Open to all, you pay by donation but there is no obligation. Lentil soup with sourdough bread, vegetarian lasagne with garlic toast , coffee and chocolate hazelnut cake was yesterday's delicious meal. There's a friendly atmosphere and willing service. The Storehouse also supports several young vulnerable adults who help to serve and to clear tables - always with a smile. I feel really lucky and proud to have the Storehouse in my town. I hesitated to write this review because I volunteer in the shop but I am also a café customer.

Inexplicably just stopped being a restaurant. Can't find anything about it online. Open but for what purpose I don't know. Now the guests at the associated premier inn next door have nowhere to eat. We were regulars and it was great to have somewhere affordable and reliable to get a meal. We are owed an explanation.

Excellent Sunday lunch, lovely starter (tasty bread board) and great main courses. The waiting staff were all very friendly and welcoming and have already recommend to other friends!

There have been many changes since we last visited Whitmuir pre-pandemic. The farm food shop has gone and has been replaced by Junkshop Antiques (which used to operate from smaller premises on the site); The Dancing Light gallery apparently moved online some time ago and the vacant unit they previously occupied was due to be re-launched as a (Christmas) shop when we were there in November 2022. The café looks the same as before (minus the gallery’s paintings) but opened again under new ownership in September 2022 and now trades simply as Whitmuir Cafe. I’m glad to see the log burner remains in place as it is needed to try to keep this cavernous place warm at this time of year. Quercus Garden Plants still operate on the site however when we visited garden plants were not something we were looking to explore. At the time of our lunch visit there was a slow, steady flow of customers but these are large premises to fill so it lacked atmosphere. The menu choice is modest and we ordered up their Toastie of the Day, which was ham and cheese, served with house salad and dressing £6.95). My wife’s request to replace the sourdough bread with brown bread was met. I ordered a Bagel with chicken & lemon mayonnaise, also served with house salad and dressing (£6.25). We both enjoyed our lunch - the chicken was plentiful and tasty with the mayo, the toastie filling good quality and we both rated the house salad and dressing very highly. The only criticism was that the cutlery knives seemed blunt. The coffee we had along with the food was very good - Flat white (£2.95) and Americano (£2.60) - so we ordered another to go along with the home bakes both of which happened to be gluten free. My wife requested the smaller of the large looking slices of Treacle and Lemon tart on display, which turned out to be wise since she was unable to finish it; and I had an Almond slice which I too was unable to finish. Verdict on the cakes was “okay” however we have only rarely found a gluten free cake which we could say we really enjoyed so that is probably just our taste. Overall cost of lunch was just over £29 which we thought was good value. Staff were friendly and efficient. It’s early days for the revised format and not as attractive an overall destination for us however we wish them well. Check opening hours if travelling - seems to be Wednesday to Sunday, 10.00am until 4.00pm at present.
