The food from the kitchen is 5 star. Seasonal, inventive and prepared and presented wonderfully. The wine list is intriguing. I had an Albarino from France for the first time in my life. My disappointment was with who I assumed was the manager. Perfunctory and she knows her stuff, but she has the warmth of an unlit fire. I also observed her having an intense conversation with one of the bar staff next to the cutlery drawer.

The menu here is described as 'Rustic Mediterranean'. We came here for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the food - my personal choice was the Moroccan Chicken Stew which was well prepared and tasty. It's not fine dining by any means, but it offers something different to the bog-standard pub grub. The pub itself is traditional and relatively unspoilt; indeed a little basic and rough around the edges which may not be to everyone's taste but, for me, this just enhances its appeal. There are many original features remaining, such as original fireplaces and ornate plasterwork on the ceilings and the tables and chairs are somewhat basic. On the bar, ales are mostly from the local and excellent Five Points Brewery.

Good food, have been coming for a few years, but sadly the current staff are slow, fairly unfriendly, and seem entirely unable to observe who's been waiting to be served, meaning you can wait for ages while they keep serving new arrivals. Nice pub and menu, but very let down by really poor lacklustre bar staff.

This was a great evening that was ruined by a rather dreadful family who was so rude to the bar staff that I could not quite believe what was going on. The man was so patient and tried to explain why they could not be served but he was being shouted at and abused. I think it was one of the worse cases of harassment I have seen. The manager remained so calm that I applaud him. we received wonderful food served by great people. The abusive woman I think had low self-esteem due to a weight problem she has and she took it out on others. Shame on her.

My boyfriend and I came here for a Sunday Roast with some friends and had a terrible experience. Despite having ordered all at the same time, we were the two last to be served, almost 30 minutes after everyone else. They completely forgot about our order and when our plates arrived, the chicken was almost meat less and the beef roast barely cooked. Terrible service with staff members acting as they were doing you a favour. Not the kind of experience I was looking for...

We did have good food but one member of staff was so rude that we won’t be going back. We asked for water and he gave us some and said he expected a large tip as there is no table service. We were also not allowed to sit at an empty table as it was used for the chefs. Nobody used it while we’re there.

With prices pushing £20 for a roast you'd expect a high quality offering, but the Lady Mildmay serves stringy and tough meat and Aunt Bessie Yorkshire puddings alongside a measly collection of zapped vegetables. The gravy is watery and the condiments dished out in rations. We complained and were given short shrift, shrugs and sent on our way as if we were an inconvenience for mentioning things could be improved. Avoid this place.

Have visited to the pub several times over the last 6 weeks, love the atmosphere, drinks and food are great. Staff are seriously weird though and seem completely bored to the point of rudeness, with the exception of one of the women who is absolutely brilliant. The last time was so strange, they actually locked the pub at 7pm on bank holiday Sunday even though there were loads of regular punters in there. This meant some poor staff member had to stand by the door unlocking it for people to leave. The staff are so bad it ruins what would otherwise be a brilliant pub. They make it actively an unwelcoming place.

Our first visit and a first rate meal. The bar staff were welcoming and attentive (we had booked a table for the 6 of us) and there was a buzz of anticipation as we decided on our food. The roast dinner options were limited to beef, chicken and nut loaf, but that seemed to cater for our needs- nobody was hankering after lamb or pork, although one did opt for the mushroom cassoulet. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were very good and the carrots, kale and cabbage went down well. The nut loaf was declared 'one of the best' and the veggie cassoulet described as 'excellent', so it wasn't all about roast meat. Those who had room for desserts thought them 'very good' . All in all, this is a pub with a characterful atmosphere, a good selection of beers and moderately priced wine. We'll be back.

I love this pub, which I always go to if I need food over other local pubs. Great menu and the pub is lovely. Only criticism is that they don’t play any music, which ruins the atmosphere somewhat. Even a quiet something in the background could help loads

T he owners have managed to retain a pub like atmosphere while providing an excellent range of food from the open style kitchen. The staff are friendly and helpful and work extremely hard to minimise any delays at the bar. They serve 4 or 5 real ales, generally from London based breweries but also from breweries like XT and Animal, and if you sensibly belong to CAMRA there is a 50p a pint reduction. There is no music, machines or television screens so people do not have to shout to be heard. Excellent pub and it joins the Wenlock, the Harp, the Tapping the Admiral, the Royal Oak and the Sultan as places to treasure.
