The Kitchen in Derby

My boyfriend and I wanted a full English breakfast at 2pm on a Saturday and although it wasn’t usually served at that time the chef was very nice and offered to make it us anyway and it was delicious, really friendly staff too! 5⭐️

My friend took me for a birthday treat today. I chose quiche and chips. For £12 I was really disappointed with both the portion size and quality of the food. Served on a black slate I received a very small slice of quiche which was very mediocre and hard to cut and a very small portion of around 10 small french fried style chips, they tasted of cheap fat. The good music vibe and the fact there was hardly any other customers in there made it a nice space for a catch up and chat with my friend but I would not risk another visit based on food quality and lack of value for money.

Stopped here for breakfast as never tried and like to support local businesses. Service was excellent and we felt welcomed. Food was good and tasted nice was well prepared. Accommodating with being able to change one of the menu items. The hot chocolate where you can add the chocolate pieces was a great idea and tasted really good. Only criticism would be I felt the mushrooms on the breakfast and bagel were not fresh and came from a tin. The sausage seemed to be catering sausage. Prices maybe (in my opinion) slightly over for what I would usually pay in other similar establishments. Overall we enjoyed and would visit again.

We enjoyed a lovely late lunch at The Kitchen. Staff were friendly and accommodating even when clearly being at the end of a very long day for them. Very good pizza on offer!

Had a lovely experience. We sat outside as the weather was warm. The customer service was fantastic and friendly. There was passion and pride in the quality. Will definitely visit again.

We love this place, family run home baked pizza's are amazing. Ham mushroom an d spicy chicken halloumi fries chips and onion rings did not fail. The owner chirpy chap with hat and suit and waitress were so attentive.

One word in a nutshell perfection, I’m embarrassed to say I’ve ever walked through the door of a pizza express as these guys pizza are amazing, their wood fired pizza are next level and flat white is exceptional quality and price is amazing. Was very happy to that I could see my flat white being made from my table too and that the staff are relax and polite and very friendly, especially the man in the red suit. Autism/on the spectrum friendly too, if you like live music and they’re very helpful if you have any questions too.

Lovely little place for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. I went on a sunday morning while waiting for the museum to open. The staff were very attentive and I was served swiftly. I enjoyed my brunch while listening to a lovely ,talented man gently free play on his guitar. Nice and cosy and will definately visit again. A little over priced for what you got but Im happy to extra to keep a lovely little place like this open.

My friends and I randomly chose this cafe for a late Sunday breakfast after a big Saturday night visiting Derby. What a lucky choice! The Sadlergate location is charming, with easy parking in nearby Parksafe at Bold Lane. We loved the warm welcome from the stylishly be-suited proprietor, the good service, excellent coffee, tasty food and mellow live music! Games and books interspersed among the imaginative decor. Good veggie options, too. Really rounded off the weekend on an unexpected high. Thank you so much! Highly recommended and worth a short walk or drive from the soulless Derbyion Mall!

The best thing about this restaurant is the staff, all the employees here are suuuuper super nice, smiley and welcoming, the smoothie I ordered was so good as well, and their pizza, it's a real italian one with a thin base 😋 just like I love it

Really nice place. Way too much cheese on the pizza and 4 slices of pepperoni to an 8 slice perperoni pizza! Meh This was just before lockdown and has taken you years to respond. I wish I had taken a picture as I couldn't believe it either. It took forever and wasn't to my taste. The cheese overpowered the pizza and there was definitely 4 slices of pepperoni to an 8 slice pizza.

Had a breakfast sandwich to take away service great and attentive delivery slow hot sandwich cold had to put it in microwave when got to work then tasty put not worth what I paid

A cosy place on Sadler Gate, great for some yummy grub, live music or a drink outside to watch the world go by. Staff go out of their way to make you feel welcomed, especially the two owners who really do create a wonderful atmosphere

We’ve been here as a family a few times now and always had a pleasant experience. The staff work hard but are always friendly. Food is good and reasonably priced and something on the menu for everyone.

Wandered in here as it was the only cafe open near to Derby Museum on a sunday morning. Greeted very warmly and served promptly.A lovely little place;a bit quirky and great coffee! I then made an on the spot decision to have a bacon sandwich which was lovely with nice brown seeded bread. I quietly read my mag and enjoyed time to chill out. Will definitely return to try larger menu items.

Went in "The Kitchen" for the first time as I didn't went Derby for a long time that I am from Essex. I ordered "The Kitchen Burger" with J20. And until serve on the table as I eat and taste is food plus burger taste like not from frozen foods. Until done feel full up and paid £17 then leave the cafe.

Service was excellent and the food arrived in less than half and hour. It was just a generally wholesome cafe and the staff were very polite. Perfect place to visit with friends for a delicious meal or a slice of cake.

I'd like to start with how amazing this place is The Kitchen is ran so well by Pete and Lisa the second you walk in the door you feel like part of the family, everyone from the staff to the regulars are so welcoming, the kitchen is ran so well, I'd also like to give a special thanks to pheenix and Chris they are so friendly and keep the atmosphere lively and friendly for the entire night, il definitely be back as a regular keep up with what your doing because it works so well

We found this great place to eat/drink whilst strolling around Derby. We popped infor a most excellent breakfast. The sausages are fantastic. We then went back later for dinner and a drink. The pizza and kebab were both yummy. The vibe in here is superb. From the lovely rock chick of a waitress to the friendly owner, we were made to feel really welcome. The icing on the cake (oh yes, they also do amazing cakes) was the cool music. They play great stuff and also have live music in the evening. This is a true gem.

Myself and a friend were in Derby for the weekend and decided to come to this lovely little place. We ordered the kitchen breakfasts. The atmosphere is amazing and almost makes you feel like you are on holiday abroad. Food was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. What was nice is the chef himself came out to ask if the food was okay which we both felt was a nice little touch. The waitress was very attentive, I think i overheard her name was Lana? But overall an absolutely wonderful experience. I hope to come again soon next time we are in Derby

This is a great place for an informal meal. We had a great sandwich lunch and heard that there was music on in the evening and came back for an evening dinner with friends. A great evening.

Used to be a lovely cafe. The food was greasy, smelt, made me feel sick. Service was terrible, food was slow. Won't be back.

Lovely staff, nice bit of live music and great food. We went back in the evening after a concert and they made us some great pizzas and we danced the night away.

Quirky little coffee shop, lovely friendly staff. There was a live musician in there on Sunday, really chilled out vibes. They also sold some cute accessories, guitar strings and accessories and other miscellaneous items. Definitely worth a visit.

Had the best lunch in the kitchen , the panini was amazing ! Me and my partner had a brilliant lunch in there then decided to return later ( twice ) for drink and pizza , the staff are so welcoming and the atmosphere is really relaxing , can’t wait to return !

Got seated straight away, took my order quickly and I received it quite quickly too even though they were busy. My food was delicious and well worth the amount I paid. I will be visiting again.

Came on a sunday afternoon for some brunch with family. There was a wonderful live singer that created a really great atmosphere and the service was top notch. We all had a great meal and left happy and full. Thankyou to all the staff will definitely come again!!

We just saw a table available and decided to try the Bistro - best thing ever! The service was impeccable and the pizza is probably even better than what I had in Italy. The staff is so bubbly and friendly - we went back after 2 days! Good luck guys and don’t ever close!

Had lunch on Sunday. Very good. There are a few tables in the street and a reasonable menu to select from. Bonus of being in the street was we bumped into friends and they joined us at the next table. Our paninis were very good

Went for a walk through town and stumbled on the Kitchen doing takeaway breakfast butties. Cooked to order. Very nice sausage and bacon butties. Good hot chocolate. Order at the door and then go inside (with a mask) to collect.

Came for breakfast with a friend, we ate outside and had a traditional breakfast. Very good portion, cooked well and nice breakfast deal 9.50 with a drink. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend.

We ordered a fish finger sandwich and a halloumi burger and after a pretty lengthy weight the food arrived. By which point we were famished and in a bit of a rush.The fish fingers were poor quality (think grey in the middle processed fish), the best thing about my sandwich was the lemon mayo and the crisps on the side.But worse still was my veggie husbands supposed ‘halloumi burger’, it had so much chilli jam on it he couldn’t taste anything else and being so hungry he wasn’t really paying attention, so it was only 5 minutes later when they brought out the food for the next table that we realised they’d mixed up the dishes and he was actually eating slices of grilled chicken.Despite apologising extensively and repeatedly to the next table the staff made ZERO attempt to apologise or offer him a replacement and completely ignored us. Fair enough we didn’t kick off as much as we could have done (they got off very lightly) and he had pretty much finished it by the time he realised but that’s really not the point. AND they proceeded to charge us full price, again with no acknowledgement.As we were leaving they then proceeded to mix up the replacement dishes on the next table again with a third table so she still didn’t get her chicken burger! Hate to think what table 3 ended up eating!Best thing I can say about this place is that they make a decent pot of tea. I will not be going back.

We visited here on a Saturday for a Brunch; the venue is clean, safe and Covid secure; staff were very attentive and service was great. Food was fresh, used good ingredients and very well prepared.Overall a very good visit for us after being disappointed elsewhere.

Myself and my partner had the pleasure of a meal here on Saturday 26th September 2020.I was an absolute fluke find, as we are not from Derby, but only visiting for the evening. We both had Pizza's which were amazing (we are going to Rome next week and I'm scared I'll be disappointed in their pizza's now LOL).The service was amazing, all the staff were lovely and the owner even made time to come out of the kitchen and chat with us. It was a really lovely experience, especially in current times.I can not recommend this restaurant enough and it is great value for money, if Derby calls us again, we will definitely be back.

Very disappointing £10 for a breakfast of this quality is shocking.cheap products.£3 for a small luke warm capachino.very poor.

The pizza here was incredible, by far the best I think I’ve had in the UK. It’s a delightful little cafe/restaurant, staff were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I’d 100% give it a recommendation to anyone, they do a variety of food which also looked great so I look forward to more visits to try everything else.

After wondering around Derby Town Centre on a Saturday night (Bank Holiday weekend) 4 adults & 6 children we thought we were never going to find a restaurant to eat in & were considering going back to the Premier inn we were at for the night for food. I'm so pleased I suggested walking down 1 more street as we found this lovely little place, amazing pizzas, burgers & kebabs owner was a lovely guy & nothing was too much trouble.

The kitchen completely took me by surprise. We had the pizzas and they are honestly some of the best pizzas I’ve ever tried.

The Kitchen Derby was the only place happy to hold a small party of us (in their upstairs function room) to say goodbye to colleagues.The food was lovely and the venue great. The staff were attentive and kept checking up on us. Would definitely return.

If you’re wondering where to have lunch or breakie, go to the Kitchen!! Pizza was delicious and the kebab was gorgeous, cooked in the oven and chargrilled to perfection. The service was good too, the blonde lady, unknown of her name who also made our food was lovely and went out her way to make conversation and make us feel welcome.

Situated on Saddlergate, with limited seating outside and socially distanced seating inside. Covid precautions seem to be well adhered to.We visited for lunch with a wide range of dishes on offer including a separate pizza menu. Our food was well cooked and delicious, particularly the thin crust pizza, we really enjoyed the Goats Cheese. A good range of soft drinks are available.Service was a little on the slow side, probably due to the queue for the busy but small pizza oven. Prices are average.

I ordered the steak burger and it was so overdone it was impossible to eat, my friend's was the same. It was like trying to bite into a rock. The onion pancake on the burger was gross. The fries were also overdone. £11 is an insane price for such poor food. The milkshakes were nice though. Overall wouldn't recommend.

Set along saddler gate, a quaint lane with independent shops, pubs, bars, cafes we stopped at the kitchen for hot drinks mid week followed by pizzas and alcohol on Friday night. The owner of the business is hands on, cooking the pizzas front of house in the traditional pizza oven. The pizzas were tasty, my mum had a nice coffee. The three of us enjoyed wine with our meal and I think the prices are about right (£66 for the three of us). It’s lovely to see independent businesses thrive and we will definitely return.

This place was a good little find that does take aways. I ordered wood fired stone baked pizza and a latte, both of which were amazing. I don't think I ever had a pizza as good as this one. Latte was carefully prepared and very creamy. I was allowed to sit outside the premises and enjoy my food. The owner was really nice and attentive. Definitely, be coming back for more.

Surprised to find The Kitchen serving takeaway pizza and drinks last Saturday. The pizza custom made in their real pizza oven, just delicious. Luckily we were able to sit outside, the owner could not have been more accommodating. Thanks very much. Just go and enjoy.......

Visited here Prior to beer festival. Really good breakfast, service was slow but I could see the kitchen from where I was sat. It was lovely to be in a non chain local restaurant.

Had a lovely brunch on a saturday morning. The thick toast was delicious! Service was a little bit slow but I think this is due to the size of the kitchen. Food was great though so we didn't mind too much! Best hash browns ever!

We celebrated a special family birthday at the kitchen. We had a very warm welcome, the food was perfect for all 45 of us and the restaurant was decorated beautifully for us. The staff were friendly and happy, we would definitely recommend and will be back.

Myself & my family have been dining regularly at this cafe now for the past 4 months. Every meal we have had has been beautiful,from a late evening pizza to a hearty morning kitchen breakfast, I have to say the coffees & cakes are to die for too lol! I've struggled to find an environment that caters for my children as I have two boys with ASD but this place is ideal for their needs, very friendly & very understanding. Absolutely love this warm, child friendly cafe.

Another great experience at The Kitchen in Derby. We went for a business lunch and they did not disappoint. The tuna panini and Mocha i ordered was spot on. Tasty, fresh and filling. The mocha was full of flavour.

Had the best salad I have ever had today. Popcorn shrimp salad with sweet chilli dressing and flat bread 🥖

We have used this lovely little cafe / restaurant on two occasions after finding it by accident. On both occasions the food was wonderful and the service by the staff excellent. It is our go to place to eat now when we are in Derby. Highly recommend this establishment very friendly staff who look after you 10 out of 10

Lovely kitchen breakfast for me and pancakes for the two kids. Nice and cosy place on Sadler Gate, friendly staff, great tasting and great service, what more could you want on a cold winter morning?!

I just read in our local Derby paper that The Kitchen has been fined for poor hygiene standards. It should be emphasised that the restaurant has been penalised for historic events. Unaware of any of the history of The Kitchen, we passed the restaurant with our friends on New Years Eve and decided to stop off for coffee and cake. I should add that despite living in Derby, we seldom call at a coffee shop in Derby and confess to have never even noticed the place before. We were made very very welcome, the cafe appeared clean and we were served promptly and courteously. My partner, a retired catering manager, can always spot problems and she made no comment - always a good sign. Her second assessment of a restaurant is always the cleanliness of the toilets which again got full marks. This coffee shop is located in the Cathedral Quarter and just like the shops in the area, need all the support they can get. I promise to call again when we're next passing - keep up the good work.

I visited the kitchen cafe this morning and had a latte and a shortbread slice,i was offered a table by the radiator was lovely and warm,the staff were very welcoming and lovely, i would recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely stunning venue with exceptional customer service from Nigel. Two thumbs up! I highly recommend for anybody in the Derby area to come visit & try a delicious bite.

Hadn't experience The Kitchen before but recently visited 3 times in the last month, Nice food/drinks followed by great reception by the staff, especially from Lisa. It's has a nice selection of food, different from other cafes with a lovely selection of cakes on display.

The pizza here is really good! Will definitely be coming for more. Everything else is good too and they have great vegetarian options.

Despite popping in on a cold miserable Friday afternoon, my friend and I were met with a warm, welcome greeting.The staff were very pleasant and left us plenty of time to make our selection. We decided on tea and scones. The scones looked REALLY good!

Me and my partner visited The Kitchen on friday evening for the first time and I must say what a lovely experience we both had! Both myself and my partner had the seafood pasta which was absolutely delicious and fresh tasting. Our waitress was very helpful in helping us to choose from the menu and had a good knowledge of which wine would suit our meal. we had never been in before and was not sure what to expect but, the service was exceptional and for saying how busy they actually were we couldn't have been looked after any better. The place was very relaxing and had a lovely feel to it, with candle lit tables, We will definitely be returning!

The staff here are really friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Sylvia, Carmie Lisa and the manager are always absolutely lovely, practically know our order by now and always go the extra mile- one time my friends and I were sat outside in the rain and Sylvia went to go and get us a parasol!

My partner and I went to The Kitchen for breakfast. My scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were OK, but got cold very quickly on a slate plate, so this was very much style over substance.

After wondering down Sadlergate I found a quaint little Cafe known as The Kitchen. I was greeted by two nice waitresses who seated me and took my order. I had a very filling and hot full English Breakfast with a pot of Breakfast Tea. Plus, at a reasonable price. The atmosphere was also very relaxed and personable.

My wife, family and I were ushered in off the street with a promise of great things. We were 5 in total. Once inside the place looked in need of a good clean. Service was slow, and staff were too busy to be pleasant.

Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Food brought out quickly, sandwiches are fresh and artisan bread. Pizzas are stonebaked while you wait. Great with our 3 year old :) would return

Extremely rude staff, the place looks like it needs a good clean and the eggs are terrible slightly resembled power balls. Second time I’ve tried this place yesterday and won’t be going for a third.

Got in early for breakfast, items are good quality, well cooked, tasty and it certainly set's me up for the day. Friendly smile from the staff with quick service, it works for me.

Ordered a breakfast ,egg was over done and not a runny yolk,tomato was hard ,been were like warm ,toast was soggy ,they should give you some so you can butter yourself when your ready ! Not when it's hot and butter melts and makes it soggy ,sausage was nice ,asked for well done bacon and it was undercooked and chewy ,I was still hungry when I left ,and it's was not value for money any bloke would still probably hungry .

Attentive staff, well presented and good food. Lots of cakes to choose from too. It's no wonder it fills up as nowhere similar is open on Sundays. Everything clean and moderately priced, thank you.
