As a frequent visitor, I was incredibly disappointed by my experience here on valentines day . From the moment we walked in, things felt off. We waited about five minutes to be seated, which wouldn’t have been an issue if the woman with blue hair at the counter hadn’t completely ignored us. She greeted the person behind us (who I think was picking up an order) but acted as if we weren’t even there, making us feel invisible. A simple awknowledgement would have been appreciated. Once we were finally seated, it took another 30 minutes before anyone even took our drink order. While the drinks arrived promptly, our food took another 40 minutes to come out (bear in mind it wasn’t even too busy!!) When it finally did, they brought our main courses—even though we had ordered starters as well. When they asked if we wanted everything at the same time, we said no, as we didn’t want our mains to get cold while we ate our starters. Everything them came out in order but despite that, the service remained painfully slow and indifferent, making us feel unwelcome throughout the night. All night, it seemed like the staff was more focused on Uber Eats orders than attending to the customers dining in. It was a disappointing experience, especially since this used to be one of my favorite places.

Excellent food and very kind staff, always checking if we are okay and also giving us a small discount due to a mix up with the duo Romana and a deal when they didn't have to, much appreciated for great service and delicious food 😄

Visited with family for a birthday meal. It's alright. Nothing particularly good or bad - nothing outatanding or memorable either way. Just standard pizza, standard service and standard surroundings. Hence, the average score. One of my party had a pasta dish and I could have cooked better myself at home. My only issue is that I think it is wholly overpriced just like many of these big chains are - the cost is certainly above average for what you get. For the same price elsewhere (and cheaper) you can get much better food, etc.

This is our favourite Pizza Express and we visit regularly as we like this part of Derby and this branch has always been great with a good atmosphere. We came with friends and the quality of food and excellent service was as good as always. Highly recommended and we will be back again.

Well a very average visit on Saturday night. From the moment we walked in to leaving it was all just, well average. A couldn't be arsed welcome, took a while to order drinks and pizzas, pizzas were luke warm when they arrived and I played hunt the meatballs on a meatball pizza !! Staff certainly didn't seem interested if we were enjoying our visit. I've cancelled our next booking and we'll go somewhere where hopefully they can be arsed 🙄

Great food in a nice environment but made extra ordinary by our server Ingrid who has the perfect balance of smile, attentiveness, friendliness and helpfulness. She is an asset to pizza express. Everything else was good too...dough balls with a good serving a garlic butter, good well made pizza and nice dolcetti and coffee to finish. Couldn't fault it.

Great delivery friendly and on time

Had a lovely lunch with two toddlers by myself and Julie was a star, nothing was too much for her and she went above and beyond to make our outing pleasant. Will be back for sure purely for this service, put a smile on my face!

pasta was mostly burnt and hard, pasta sauce cold. chicken wings were slimy odd texture. mozzarella sticks bread crumbs greasy. kids pizzas cheese and tomato was okay. overall I would describe this as waste of money which the majority was thrown in bin.

Great night tonight Loverly service from our friendly and attentive lady server (Blue hair, sorry I didn’t get you make) Food was great, dough naps were hot and a reasonable amount of Garlic butter. Pizzas hot and well made and coffees after were also great 👍 No complaints at all and recommended as in the heart of derby with plenty of bars around. Thanks to all the staff

Food took 3 hours to arrive after placing order then was stone cold when it did arrive

Called in for lunch , we chose Macaroni, lasagne and cannelloni. All were delicious. Also was a game changer with a side order of shredded Brussels. For dessert we had figs with mascarpone cheese which were really lovely and a coffee thank you Steph for your excellent service and Care we really enjoyed our visit . Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Whilst the food did arrive, it was Luke warm. That isn’t the issue however, having placed the order at 6.47, the delivery didn’t arrive until 8.25

Arrived at the time of my collection and had to wait 40mins for my order. Once home discovered an item missing from my order. Emailed Pizza Express customer services and requested a refund for the missing item. I was told that after ‘investigation’ the restaurant had given me my full order so a refund couldn’t be issued but as a ‘gesture of goodwill’ a free item would be added to my account. When I disputed this, I was advised to check my order in future. There won’t be any future orders from me! Appalling customer service.

Very smart looking from the front, stylish contemporary Christmas decorations inside with a comfortable atmosphere. We dined as a party of two on Tuesday 4th December lunchtime. Quiet relaxed meal, very good service. The quality and variety of food is very good. Opted for the festive 2 course at £20 each. Great value! Highly recommend. Good access ♿

my food took almost double to time it should have took. my pizza was undercooked, stone cold and wasnt even cut. the dough balls were stone cold aswell

The drink I payed for didn’t arrive

Decent atmosphere (more rustic than the shopping centre one), nice food, brisk and friendly service. We had a classic pizza each; enjoyed it but would recommend ordering a side too.

Cant comment as entered the building saturday at 2pm ( it wasnt busy) and stood waiting to be seated. Was noticed by a waitress and ignored. A simple ' i will be with you shortly' would of been appreciated. Waited a further 5 minutes with zero interaction. Left.

Probably the worst gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had! My husband’s standard margarita pizza wasn’t much better. Really expect better from Pizza Express. ☹️

Very delicious! This was my son’s first time at pizza express and he loved it as much we do. We ordered the dough balls, pollo ad astra pizza and they’ve stopped making the pollo forza pizza but they tried their best to recreate it for me with the ingredients they had in the kitchen. We also had the brownie and ice cream for dessert which was excellent. Kids ate free which was nice and they even gave my son a lotus biscoff biscuit, his favourite!

Food was good; however, service was very slow both in taking orders and food coming out of the kitchen. It wasn't very full when we went either.

Well well well, I’d not been to Pizza Express for nearly 10 years so thought I’d pop in. I am so disappointed! What used to be a slick operation is now a lacklustre excuse for a restaurant. The restaurant was empty, literally 3 other people in there (see photo) but everything was SO SLOW. You shouldn’t have to ask the server for a drink when you first sit down - this should be their first question. After asking, she was surprised that I only wanted to order a drink and not food at this stage. Seriously? Isn’t that what people do in restaurants: order a drink whilst looking at the food menu!? After a wait I had to ask to order my food, and again after another wait, for the bill. I could accept it if it was busy but it was the literal opposite. Not impressed.

2nd time we’ve been in a month and both times the service from the kitchen has been horrendous! We were waiting 20 minutes for someone to even take our order and another 50 minutes for our mains! Restaurant not even 50% full!!! Really need to sort the service out before we will return! Such a shame.

We came here for lunch we both had salads my little boy had the 3 courses where he eats for free during the august summer holidays!!!… we added things to our salads and the lovely lovely waitress Ingrid was so accommodating… she made a fuss of my little boy and the whole experience was really good and I put this down to Ingrid who made it special! Ingrid is an absolute asset to the company we enjoyed it so much we coming again next week!!!!!!!!! We had such a lovely lunch all down to you Ingrid! You’re a special person!!!!!! ♥️

£20 for a what tasted worst than a frozen pizza. Also wasn’t even cut up properly.

5 stars aren’t enough for the outstanding service received by Ingrida at the Iron Gate restaurant every single time you enter the building, she is a top tier waitress and never fails to amaze with the quality of the service provided. Hands down, the best waitress I’ve ever had. The food is also great especially when prepared by chef Neil, they have a nice variety of starters, mains and deserts, as well as all kinds of drinks. I love that the menu changes every so often so you’ll never get bored! Honestly, I would love to leave more than 5 stars as the food and service is outstanding.

Love this place. The building is beautiful inside and the staff are always great. Everything we ordered was delicious and as a gluten free, dairy free vegetarian it is a real treat to have choices on the menu. Kids happy too.

Visited yesterday lunchtime for our daughters birthday with 10 of her friends. Fantastic venue, great service (our waitress was brilliant) and excellent pizzas. What more do you need?!?

We booked here as wanted to grab some food before a gig we were going to with friends. Well our pizza wasn’t very ‘express’. It took one hour from placing our order to receiving our four pizzas. The pizzas were very nice but that is an unacceptable wait. At no point did they tell us there was a delay until we asked after 45 minutes when they said our pizzas were going in the oven in 7-8 minutes. They did knock a whole £6 off our £115 bill. Won’t be returning any time soon.

I just have a big issue with uber eats and just eat people standing around whilst people are eating their food, it isn't fair on people who spend good money on a night out and have people hanging around them who are not even spending money in there, it looks scruffy and very off putting

Disappointed. They advertised children's menu as it was a standard. It was not delivered. In addition l was charged more for 2 courses than l would have been foe the 3 courses advertised. When l enquired l was given a feeble excuse, something about allergies???

Came today for lunch with a friend had a lovely meal with lovely Service, couldn’t fault it . Cannelloni, lasagne, garlic doughballs . and lemon roulade were all delightful. Many thanks.

Not great this time. Very slow service and the pizza was ordinary and expensive. Polenta chips were good tho. My dining partners gluten free pizza was rather small ... used to be you took your own gf base and they only charged for the toppings.

My gluten free pizza wasn’t that great. Wasn’t as good as I expected. Had gluten free goats cheese and onion pizza and they had cooked the goats cheese. Very disappointing. The wings were very greasey not ideal or how we expected. Gluten free pizza wasn’t as I had had previously. It was not light and crispy as I’ve experienced in the restaurant.

Been to this pizza express many times, usually been the average service you’d expect, no major issues. Decided to go for a nice family meal mid-week, booked a table around 7.30 and arrived just before (approx 2min). The place was more than half empty, with 1 large party inside and a couple other tables. Our table was not ready for us on arrival and we were expected to wait with no apologies, even though 10+ tables were available. When finally seated the waitress shoved menus on the table by the door, asked if we had any allergies to which we replied no. We sat with a very clear draft over us as 6+ delivery drivers came in. Every driver got seen to before we were even approached - roughly 25 minutes waiting. The manager appeared to be standing behind the desk twiddling his thumbs! When finally seen to, they asked what we’d like to order - never once asked if we’d required different menus for dietary requirements, never offered drinks beforehand. When i stated i required a different menu the waitress, named Judith, then proceeded to argue that she had asked for any allergies beforehand. She seemed to be completely clueless to the fact that allergens and food limitations are completely different things - likely needs retraining, not just on that but also manners and customer service. After continuing to backchat, i stood up and left with my party in frustration. All it would have taken - an apology and a menu correction. There are plenty of other restaurants I go to that always ask for dietary requirements FIRST, and allergens second while taking our order. Hugely disappointed and i’ll never return, my family included. If you expect quality food AND service, like every restaurant should be, then avoid this pizza express.

The pizza was not even lukewarm and I’m staying in a hotel so couldn’t even warm it up, The egg on the fiorentina side of the pizza was congealed and the halloumi fries were cold, soggy and missing the dip they are supposed to come with so a complete waste of money!

Booked a pizza party for my 7 year olds birthday. All the kids had a great time, the staff (Peter, Autumn and Dennis) were really friendly, accommodating (with some of the fussier eaters) and helpful! We all had a great time and would definitely recommend!!

Visited today with friends, received a warm welcome, it wasn’t too busy, so we got a nice table by the window. our server was delightful we had lasagna cannelloni and pizza , with the portion of garlic doughballs , all delicious and served quickly . Great food, fabulous service . Many thanks.

Delivered stuffed into one bag - drink and side ok, but pizza box bent. Food tepid at best, pizza damaged in box with bent edge, terrible incomplete slice cuts and burnt edge.

Really nice ambience, a bit more chilled than the derbion centre…. Friendly and helpful service 😊 Came for a family birthday meal and everyone that served us was fantastic. The food was lovely and the wine was really nice too

From the second we walked in the door we were met with friendly staff who took care of our every need with a smile. The food was incredible and this was one of the best experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. Will 100% be coming back to this branch in the future and would recommend it to anybody.

My waitress was very friendly and attentive. I didn’t think much of my pizza. The pizza was very sparsely topped even the passata. I paid extra for a topping and it was barely present. £20 for a pizza and a soft drink was too much for what was served.

Despite delivery notes, took 10 minutes for driver to call for help as watched them drive back and forth past house. And then a further 15 minutes to find. Food cold

Food quality appalling. Pizza flat and tasteless. Paid £4.50 for hot green chilles and mushrooms but there wasn’t any and there only 5 olives. The salad was shrivelled up. Cost almost £26. Waste of money. Would not order from pizza express again.

There were a number of starters out of stock but eventually they had a starter in stock. No problem this happens 45 mins later no starters . We ask how long our starters will be. We were told sorry we have a trainee chef on! I then noticed that no one in the restaurant had any food at their table. Trainee chef had no one alongside him, apart from the other kitchen assistant who was sitting at a table having a meal. The manager was oblivious to this as he was taking down Xmas decorations! We got up and left, free drinks were not good enough. This used to be a good restaurant.

Lovely place to visit. Wasn’t busy at all maybe because i went on boxing day evening?!. Anyway pizza was delicious but was lukewarm. Could’ve enjoyed it more if it was warm untill my last bite because as soon i ate my first slice rest was actually cold. My mates pizza was actually cold when served. A bit pricey though. Could lower a bit the prices maybe.

I’ve been here quite a few times over the years. The food is always consistently good (although I pretty much have the same thing every time so I can only really speak for the Calabrese pizza!). The main thing that gets me going back is the service - each and every time the staff have been amazing and really seem to go out of their way for you.

Food came cold, not good quality. Portion is small for the price I paid. My address was showing in the wrong position on your map. Everything is a bad experience from this order. Driver was polite.

One restaurant I think you will leave satisfied and think money well spent was pizza express, NOT NOW! I usually love their bruschetta and really look forward to it. This time I got a cold bruschetta burnt with hardly any toppings on it. The other dish I always look forward to is chicken pesto pasta. I can’t believe what I got no pesto, you had to hunt for the chicken and pasta was just boiled pasta with so much cheap cheese in it. This use to be my safe restaurant where I would enjoy these dishes. They have saved on costs on expensive ingredients and it really shows in the dishes lack of flavour and are really poor.
