The cafe is in a lovely location but it is so over priced. We ordered 2 x quiche and salad. On the board it said it was a 3 cheese quiche but there was no cheese and mine had ham in it. The wait was long so didn't want to complain as we did not have a lot of time. For a small slice of quiche, a tablespoon of coleslaw and a litte bit of green salad it was £15 each!! Even at £10 it would have been too much. Feel robbed!

Situated across from the Cathedral within the museum precinct, the café offers a selection of light meals, snacks, cakes, and beverages such as coffee and tea. It boasts a splendid view of the cathedral. While the prices are slightly on the higher side, the taste justifies the cost.

Good, but expensive food (£11 for a sandwich). Very rude and unhelpful staff. One member of of staff accused a customer of not paying for their meal and refused to apologise when shown the receipt. Another member of staff was ‘too busy’ to fill a bottle with tap water. Beautiful setting, let down by very poor customer service.

Freezing cold for most of the time because a member of staff was holding open a door to the stairwell of the museum allowing ice cold air to flood into the cafe. Served tepid soup that had to be returned to the kitchen for some more minutes in the microwave. Best avoided

We ate lunch here after touring the cathedral and before going to the Salisbury museum. We had the risotto and salad, the mushroom lasagna and the ploughman's lunch. The portions were very generous - especially for lunch - and it was all really tasty. We ate at an outdoor table under a nice umbrella for shade. The way it worked was that we sat at a table and were given menus, then you go in and order and pay, and they bring it to your table. There is a large indoor restaurant space as well. We didn't have to wait long at all. The eating area was surrounding by lovely gardens.

We have visited this cafe in the past when travelling down to the coast and it was always a much better experience than we had this time. We had been travelling for 4.5hours it was very hot and after spending a short time in the shops decided to walk around the cathedral close, we decided to stop for a much needed cup of tea so went inside as all tables outside in too much sun and all taken anyway. I initially went to counter to be told it was table service, so after sitting down we waited, there was one waitress taking orders and probably got to us after 10minutes when we said we just wanted tea for two her comment was “oh that will make my life easier “. And then we waited, there were two men, one who appeared to be cooking and another who was doing we’re not sure what (did hear him complain about how long it took to make a milkshake so we presumed he was in charge of drinks). We waited approximately another 20 minutes and still no tea so due to time constraints with rest of our trip we left. I cancelled order as I passed waitress who did apologise. We walked over to cathedral and in to the cafe there and within minutes were sitting with some much need water and our tea. This was not a lunchtime rush (mid afternoon) and although all outside tables taken there was probably only 12 people sitting down outside so I really couldn’t fathom what the problem was. And to be honest how long does it take to put two teabags in pots and fill with water etc.

Very disappointing after previous visits last year and earlier. Ignore the Web page, it is no longer looked at by management. Booked table on line for 5 today and even received confirmation, however we were not expected. They did not see online bookings. Menu was much reduced to that shown on line, I was told it was now out of date. Menu and prices changed. Such a shame, was a favourite of ours as my mother lives in Close so easy to get to. Will try elsewhere next time.

Such a change from the usual jacket potato, egg sandwich and sausage roll. ,

It was a hot day when we visited and the parasols are really too small for the outside tables. It was a choice between huddling together at one end of the table and some people sitting in the full 28° heat. When we were finally able to place an order we were told that because they were busy there would be a twenty minute wait for food. To my mind this should have been done before this point. The drinks we’d ordered didn’t arrive until we asked for them again and 45 minutes after placing our food order we were still waiting. With 2 diabetics at the table and a couple with parking soon to run out things were not good. When the food arrived it was nice enough but not spectacular enough to compensate for the wait. I’d think hard before going here again as that kind of wait for a few sandwiches and a salad really isn’t acceptable.

Yes, the setting is great but beyond that, this is a bog standard cafe charging eye-watering prices considering the quality of food and drink on offer. Even a simple glass of Coke (wholesale price 60p) is given a x6 markup and sold at £3.50. Owner/manager seems to show little interest in customer experience and relies on young staff to run around providing service. Odd to have such an underwhelming food offering in a premium setting like this when there’s so much better food on offer elsewhere in Salisbury. Perhaps it’s just a case of contract caterers just going through the motions but if so, it doesn’t reflect well on the museum as a whole.

Cons: -hair in my quiche (I discreetly told the manager and he just shrugged his shoulders) -service took AGES and was generally poor (not enough cutlery, no check that we were happy, etc) -most of the menu unavailable, but nobody made us aware of this when giving the one menu to our group of 10 to share, which slowed us down further -over-priced Pros: -the setting is lovely with views of the cathedral -the food we did eventually get wasn’t too bad for what it was

Visited as am local to Salisbury but have never ate here. Firstly the young waiter spraying tables with anti bac spray managed to get the spray onto our table and us whilst spraying the table next to us, normally this wouldn’t bother me but I had a young baby with me and the spray got on the pram. Ordered 2 salads and an afternoon tea, salads were good and due to staff error we ended up with 2 rounds of garlic bread that went with one of the salads. The cups that we were given for the teas were filthy and had to be sent back to be cleaned - still came back dirty and one full of water as it hadn’t been dried. The sandwiches from the afternoon tea had stale bread and had to send them back. The only good points about this meal was the nice man that served us and the view of the cathedral. For such a prime location this cafe is in a position to be one of the best in town but instead is substandard and quality of food is low.

On the plus side, it’s a great location with views of the cathedral , a lovely garden and the food was very good, well prepared and tasty. But oh dear; the time it took to get served. We waited 75 minutes for our meal to arrive and would have left had we not already paid. Waiting staff were pleasant enough, but service was chaotic, with people waiting a long time for orders to be taken or to be served whilst newer arrivals were served ahead of them. Despite empty tables, we saw numerous people waiting to be seated give up and go away because no one was attending to the queue. We hardly ever fail to leave a tip, but I’m afraid the service was such that this was one of those rare occasions.

The cake selection was not very extensive nor mouthwatering! And no butter with our scones.......can you believe! We arrived at 3.30 and when we had ordered, were told (unnecessarily) that they were closing at 4, which accounted for the smell of disinfectant or floor cleaner. There was a time (ah the good old days) when establishments waited until they closed before they started cleaning - it just leaves the impression that the customer is an afterthought. Pity.

We visited the Salisbury Museum recently and had lunch at the lovely King's House Cafe. You can eat in or outside in the beautiful gardens enjoying the sight of the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral. What more could you want?We ate in as the weather was very iffy - it poured with rain while we were eating so it was a good call. The room has a good atmosphere with tables and chairs plus a couple of comfy armchairs near the fireplace - must be cosy in winter? The most amazing thing, apart from the great food was the lady who took our order - a panini and a huge chunk of delicious songs cake and 2 coffees. She was the most efficient person I've seen in the catering industry in years! She was lie a dervish - cups into the Italian machine for americano, tray set up - but here's the best - she anticipated that we were sharing the cake and panini - so extra cutlery and plates. All without asking!Brilliant! She even managed to seat us once out tray was ready and we waited for our panini to be made.As frequent visitors to Salisbury next time we want a coffee and a panini etc we're coming here! The prices were good value and we really enjoyed our experience. The Close is such a wonderful setting, with the back drop of the cathedral from all angles. I always love seeing tourists mingle around - enjoying their visits no end - what we always want for visitors.

In a beautiful, historic building, this coffee shop/cafe has bags of atmosphere. The service was friendly and cheerful and they had soy milk for my coffee, but sadly nothing that this vegan could eat. It would be lovely if they had some choices for those of us who do not eat animal products, they do seem to cater for those who are gluten free. Consequently, my friends and I went elsewhere to eat. So, fine for vegans who just want a drink, but not for hungry ones!

This excellent facility is frequently overlooked by the numerous visitors who make a beeline for the Cathedral and then head straight back again, on to the next attraction. This is, course, great news for the rest of us! Situated on the West Walk of the Close, it offers excellent food, friendly service and a character totally in keeping with its historic setting. As Salisbury residents, we have taken various family members and friends there over the years and it has never disappointed. The lunch menu can seem a little limited but we have seen too many places where the owners over-reach themselves with an overambitious menu. Quality easily wins over quantity here. I'm not sure why one reviewer thinks the toilets are 'basic'. Sure, there are no gold plated taps but they are very clean and feel light and airy. What else would you want? Five stars plus. Thank you, lovely staff!

The café is situated within the grounds of the Salisbury Museum but you do not need to enter the museum to access the café. There are tables inside the café or you can sit outside which overlooks the Close. The café provides light snacks, my wife and I had the ham salad sandwiches made to order, they were delicious and the bread pudding which was homemade was fabulous.

Visited here last week for coffee and cake. The homemade cakes were lovely, especially the carrot cake. We were quite late visiting, about 3:20pm, beware it does close at 4pm. The food is lovely, excellent choice and very high quality. Service was pleasant and friendly. A great place to visit. Very close to the cathedral.

Always a good experience here - lovely tea/coffee, and the jacket potato with home-made coleslaw was declared "lovely" by Mrs J.....I have previously enjoyed the bread pudding - in fact all the cakes look great. Eating inside is very pleasant; outside in the warmer weather is equally as good. Superb service as well - what else could you need?!

Kings House Cafe is located in the Salisbury Museum but is accessible from outside. It only offers snacks such as paninis and excellent cake but is a small, quiet respite from busy sightseeing. The toilets are clean but basic.

I've reviewed this cafe before, two years ago but I thought an encouraging update might be helpful. The Kings really does do the best coffee in Salisbury (and many other places in fact) It's not the burnt tasteless, scalding brew from the various chains and the beans are specially roasted for the Cafe. Sandwiches are splendidly fresh, served with crisps. Paninis are lovely, try the breakfast special! Home made soups are there plus filled rolls of your choice and jacket potatoes. Cakes really are home made, the ginger with sticky topping is highly recommended as is the home made flapjack. The sunny garden is so sheltered you can sit out on many winter days and has unique views of the Cathedral. The inside is restfully quiet. The KIngs House (next to Salisbury Museum) is well worth a gentle stroll past the Cathedral at lunch or teatime

Overlooking Salisbury Cathedral, the garden of this café has one of the best views in the city. It's out-of-the-way location means that you don't get ripped off with over-priced-for-the-tourists food and drinks. Coffee is very good and will be made extra strong on request. The best selection of homemade cakes make choosing one very hard. Friendly and obliging service, even though we arrived so near to closing time. My favourite place for tea / coffee, and where I always take visitors.

Popped in for a light lunch after visit to Mompesson House. Very friendly and cheerful reception from the young lady behind the counter. We both had mozzarella and sun dried tomato panini which was served with a small but delicious salad. Followed by a cake and tea all nicely presented. Everything beautifully clean including immaculate toilets. Not the place for a gourmet meal but for a light meal at reasonable price excellent. Would recommend.

The young lady on the counter was delightful when we called in for morning coffee. She gave us directions for a lovely walk along the Town Path to the Old Mill - through Elizabeth Gardens. We were so impressed with her helpfulness that we returned, with a friend, to have lunch the same day. A great choice of menu, reasonable prices and tastefully presented. Our favourite place when in Salisbury - we'll be back!

I used the services of the Kings House Cafe for a business event. Probably the best catering I have received in a long long time. Food quality and quantity was just brilliant. Thank you to Karen and the team, excellent service and attention to detail.

Visited the museum and cafe today. The cafe offered a really beautiful setting to stop and have a break. All of the cakes are homemade and SO delicious. My husband and I decided to split 2 cakes as we couldn't make our minds up for all of the choices on the menu! The staff were really friendly and welcoming and service was super-quick. Well worth a visit!

A lovely little cafe serving a great selection of cake - it is really difficult to choose they all look so delicious. If it's a sunny day you can sit outside in the garden right next to the Cathedral and people watch, it's very peaceful. Good value and one of the nicest places for coffee and cake in Salisbury.

I am local and tried most of the cafes in Salisbury. This is easily the nicest not only in Salisbuty, but the local area. Food is delicious, fresh and reasonably priced. It's really comfortable to sit inside or out. The only problem is that every single cake looks delicious when you arrive, so actually choosing just one is really difficult! The cafe sits opposite the entrance to the Salisbury Museum. Been again today and looking forward to lunch again soon.

Booked for lunch with friends and 2 dogs. Extremely friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. Our friends wanted scotch eggs to start but they didn't have any ready. After a short discussion the chef made them some fresh. Delicious!! Salt and pepper squid was tender and tasty and the best moules frites we have had in a long time. A long relaxed lunch which was perfect xx

Food was delicious and the manager made our evening! Kerrie (sorry if it’s spelt wrong) was brilliant. She was funny, hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. We will absolutely be back! 💖

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..

I live quite locally and thought this would be a good place to take my mum for mothers day. When we intially popped in to book there was a power cut, the receptionist took a number and said she would call, no call came so we went back in and the same receptionist did a bad job of pretending she didn't regonise us, no apology given however we booked afternoon tea. Both my self and my mother wouldn't recommend, some of the cakes had clearly been hanging around for a while. For what it cost, and the quality we left wishing we had gone else where. The staff were pleasent and attentive while we had afternoon tea, however we were (from we could see) the only one's in the hotel!
