Fantastic overnight stay.. the Buckingham suite ticked all the boxes. Lauren and Rowland made me feel very much at home.. the bar has a great atmosphere which matched my fish and chips.. glorious locally made ice cream .. definitely recommend a visit.

We booked here very quickly having to attend a friends family funeral. What a great surprise when we arrived later in the day. Lauren was rushed off her feet but attended to us as soon as she could. The room we had booked was amazing. we were expecting a en suite bedroom and were shown into a lovely self contained apartment. It was nicely appointed with bedroom, lounge kitchen and bathroom. Having the pub downstairs was great and the food was lovely. All I can say is thanks to Lauren and we will be back.

Fantastic Pub, we popped in on New Year's Day for a quick drink after a walk around Alton Waters, & returned today to eat with another 2 families, 10 of us in all. We had a great table, lovely welcome & service was brilliant, food was spot on! We all had the Sunday roast, which was stunning & children had from the kids menu & cleaned their plates also. I would 100% recommend this pub, even if it's for a swift half or a full blown roast dinner, lovely staff, great atmosphere & fab food. Thanks guys! 😊

Haven’t been here for a long time and it seems prices have gone up but portions have come down. The chicken roast dinner was tasty but lacking. Very basic, half a carrot, half a parsnip, tiny bit of broccoli and kale, three potatoes which tasted as if they were either out of a packet or microwaved. Yorkshire pudding was lovely and chicken on the bone was ok. Tasty gravy. Some cauliflower cheese and stuffing would have been nice. The dessert was really lovely ( cheesecake) and the waiting staff were nice too. All in all the main meal I wouldn’t recommend or order again but the rest of it was ok. Lovely garden.

So very happy to have recently discovered how fabulous the food is here these days, we have recently enjoyed a delicious lunch (ploughman’s and meat platter) and a wonderful dinner (one plaice, one burger, one skate) Both visits have been very successful, truly friendly and helpful service and excellent food. Portion sizes are more than plenty and the food ingredients are all excellent and fresh. Very dog friendly and very comfortable too. Thrilled to have this locally! Thank you.

Lovely welcome here and very attentive staff. Nice atmosphere and food was top notch although a bit on the pricey side. Dog friendly is a plus.

Place is clean, no working shower. Reported broken shower by phone as no one is available in the morning. Got back this evening and spoke to the bar man who was unable to Inform.me of any progress. Night 2 still no shower. Would stay clear. The service is very poor

10 minute walk from Alton water campsite. We attended two nights over the course of a week parties are between eight and 10. Each time the food and service is both excellent. Very well run family pub.

We had two excellent meals here one as a party of nine and the other is a party of 10 over the course of the week the service excellent as was the food. I cannot fault them a great family run.

Lovely friendly pub offering over and above service! We visit every year and every year they cannot accommodate us enough. The food is lovely and the atmosphere is super friendly. The beer garden is beautiful with hanging g baskets and parasols. Highly recommend.

Didn’t stay there but had a lovely lunch - the best sea bass I’ve had for a long time and excellent service - very friendly and helpful staff

So a lovely village pub and the beer choices were good. However, we were left hungry after some very small main meals, so much so that on leaving we purchased some chips. 2 of us had Crab and I’ve never seen such small crab served before, ok it was very tasty but akin to a kids portion. Ah and the kids portions. My 11 year old who eats like a sparrow complained the meal was tiny.. so good for a pint but of eating I’d consider having a snack first. The beer garden has been done really well, so it you fancy a pint outside, can’t go wrong. Staff were superb. Very friendly.

Had such a disappointing ploughman’s. £15. Four small slices of baguette. Two salad sprigs. Such a shame. Beautiful setting. Fab bar staff. Such a small portion we got something else to eat elsewhere.

First time in with the new owners, we live near so very handy for a revisit soon. The food is absolutely perfect. The short rids had a stifardo style marinade on it, loads of beautiful meat, chips and coleslaw are fantastic, my wife and son had the chicken burger, which was delicious. Then the deserts stayed on the exact same path of perfection. The service, is also brilliant 👏 Really could not fault it, and as my with says" I'm a food critic when out" Please all try there, you will not be disappointed.

Deluxe room was dry lined shed in car park behind external loo. The shower room window was near the foul vent. Breakfast slices of bread cheese and ham and a croissant in a plastic packet. Instant coffee provided. Anything required was provided when requested. Not the worst place that I have stayed in.

Popped in here with some friends whilst staying at a nearby campsite. Nice beer garden out the back, decent selection of beers etc. Seemed really nice though could have done without the server stopping for cigarette breaks in between bring food and drink outside.

Last minute booking for dinner while we were on a short break. Honestly the best lamb I have had in a long time, top class Shepherds pie and a killer sauce. So happy we discovered the kings head, brilliant value and great service. Highly recommended.

My husband and I dropped in for a drink in their lovely beer garden and noticed that they had a new menu which tempted us to stay and try it out. They still have the pub classics and now an additional menu which I would describe as a ‘special menu’. The choices are mouthwatering! I had duck breast with whiskey sauce served with what I can describe as a crispy potato wrapped duck leg sensation! I could honestly eat a whole plate of that alone with the sauce! I had to refrain from licking my plate at the end it was that good! It was clearly put together by a very skilled high end chef and we can’t wait to try his other offerings. My husband had the sirloin steak and again cooked to perfection with the best homemade peppercorn sauce ever! The service and atmosphere was fabulous especially from ‘Holly’ who lights up the whole place with her lovely friendly personality. We have tasted all of their pub classic menu and it’s all first class, our favourite being the burger. My husband says I ‘used’ to make the best burgers in the world but unfortunately I’m second best now! Enjoy!

Pub was recommended to us. Popped in to book a table and see if they were ok with dogs. Very friendly barman said he would reserve a table for us that evening in the bar. The food wasn’t your typical bar food - it was definitely up a notch. We had the pork belly and the sea bass. Both were amazing!!! Desserts were also very good. Ice cream I’m sure was homemade!! Reasonably priced. All staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

A little off our usual patch; not any more!! Made a relatively late decision to go out for Sunday lunch, and so glad we did. The whole experience was great from start to finish. I had the beef roast, and, for me, it was perfect. The ambience, the service, the beer, and the food were all top notch!!👌

Went for dinner Saturday 20th april with wife and 6 other friends had gravalax for starter sea bass for main absolutely outstanding Sunday 21st had pork belly roast food was amazing will definitely be going back great staff great atmosphere WE WILL RETURN

Great for lunch and drinks on Saturday. Awesome fish and chips!! Came in after family cycling round reservoir and stayed at campsite round corner. Owners sorted us out some coffee for camp after forgetting to bring our own. A great touch. Mrs. Very happy now!!! Thank you!!

Great vibe, staff were lovely and I enjoyed the food!

Good food and drink, pleasant atmosphere on a busy themed night - less impressed with confused entrance / exit health and safety marking which needs improvement.

Food was cold and I am a vegetarian there was only one option. We went with friends and everyone was unhappy with the food presentation and most of the burgers were not cooked through properly and one of the guests didn't receive their food and made do with a plate of chips, not impressed with the service.

Stayed here for a meeting at RHS Holbrook. Perfect location, helpful and pleasant staff. I had the upstairs suite, which was clean, comfortable and the kitchen area and lounge a nice surprise. A quirky entrance into the accommodation which I found quite amusing - but you will have to book to find out. I have another meeting at RHSB in May and will stay here again.

My family and I were staying locally for a few days. We rang and booked a table last minute as our plans had changed; I’m so glad we did! The pub is very traditional looking, but cosy. The staff were friendly and welcoming, taking our drinks and food orders promptly. They were also very accommodating with a request for our daughter. We enjoyed our starters but the mains were the highlight, in particular the sea bass dish which was delicious! We got chatting and it turns out that they have a new chef who is developing their new new menu. I’m sure it’ll be a hit with locals and visitors alike. Good luck to you and your team. Great new chef! We had a delicious soup, lamb koftas, excellent burger and sea bass. A massive improvement and much friendlier, attentive new bar staff! Hooray!

A fantastic unexpected visit to the Kings Head to learn they had a new chief with an amazing new menu! Couldn’t have asked for better home made food, fantastic welcome and happy staff. Open fire made the evening!

Loved this pub, so cute at Christmas time. Service was very good and the staff were amazing. The christmas dinner we had was great quality and delicious - pigs in blankets, beetroot wellington, sticky toffee puddings and cheesecake all fantastic. Prices about average. Highly recommend for a pub lunch or dinner in Suffolk.

I had chicken goujons for a starter, they were very over cooked and so chewy. Then our roast dinners were very bland, with no stuffing balls and an over cooked Yorkshire. Would not recommend. Expensive for the food we received.

Just spent a night here with my partner and family, in three of their B&B rooms in order to attend a 50th Birthday Party in the pub. Met by Holly the landlady/manageress when we arrived who was incredibly friendly and helpful and sorted out our rooms for us, We had the garden room, small but very well appointed with an ensuite toilet and shower, tea making facility and breakfast cereals included. Family had the other ground floor room and an upper room at the back of the pub, all equally well appointed. The pub catered brilliantly for 15 of us (and 3 dogs), food was plentiful and excellent quality and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Would definitely recommend the pub, and the rooms are worth the stay.

A good old traditional pub I have been coming to for many years. Sadly my last visit was for sad reasons (a wake) but the staff still went above and beyond and the food was exceptional.

Just the best evening as always, us lads cycle there for the Chicken Curry for an evening, the food, staff, service, friendliness, location and the heated gazebo are second to none.. we have been doing a ‘Curry Night On A Bike’ for many years and the experience just seems to get better. The manageress there is just absolutely amazing with us and looks after us blokes with banter brilliantly.. superb and always looking forward to the next evening there.

After a long walk round Alton Water we fancied a sit down and a quick bite. Beautiful seating arrangements in the garden, sadly lots of posters regarding children having to remain seated when with adults, but considering we had no children with us, this wasn't an issue. Just the message was rather clear and present. Drinks served to garden patrons via a serving hatch which was quite cool. Then table serve for food and further drinks order was swift and so professional for a local pub. It was really nice to experience this. Food, usual pub grub but portions sizes and price as well as taste was up there and well worth it. Really enjoyed scampi and chips and for the veggie, mozzarella sticks with a side order of garlic bread. Would definitely visit again and with parking available, it's perfect for after walk refreshments or a family meal in the sun.

Service not as good as it used to be

When we went on a Saturday evening everything was perfect, the food, the service, even had water bowls for the dogs and would have given 4 stars for all. So we decided to go back on a Sunday Lunchtime, bad mistake, the menu wasn't as good, we went two hours within their opening time and they had run out of Steak and a special. The service was poor, the food which was our 2nd choice wasn't that great and no water bowls for dogs. So overall I have given 3 stars.

We had a fantastic time here a couple of weeks ago, we stayed at a local caravan site and visited the kings head for a meal on the Saturday night. The food was amazing, great quality, tasty and generous portions. The staff made us feel so welcome and like we were part of the community, everyone was really friendly. It’s also dog friendly which is a bonus! The pub garden is gorgeous and was really busy which is a good sign. We will definitely be back! :)

Picked the home made chicken curry at £13.95. It was without doubt one of the worst meals I've had since lock down. The rice was dry, the chicken was dry, the curry was bland and to top it off the size of the meal for the money paid was day light robbery. Was highly recommended so very frustrating to have such a poor meal.

Very pleasant environment, lovely, friendly staff. Good value. This is basic pub fayre, but I've had much worse for my money. Portions are good. A very pleasant 3 hours or so.

First pub we tried was closed, next didn't serve food. Then we found the King's Head. Wonderful atmosphere. Welcoming staff. Superb food rapidly served. And very clean loos.

We walked to the pub from Alton Water campsite, and we absolutely loved the food, service and atmosphere of this beautiful country pub. We'll be back next weekend for more of the same!
