We are very appreciative that businesses in the high street , particularly wet ones have it tough in the present economic climate. Running a business in the high st ourselves , we fully acknowledge the cost of the living crisis. However , two medium /large glasses of wine and a bag of plain crisps at £32.00 , frankly is eye watering for a high st local pub. The glasses were in our opinion medium size at best. We appreciate the staff , who have to absorb the flack of our astonishment of the cost are innocent of pricing. We were utterly floored when asked for £32 . We are local people and were so angered by the extortionate cost , we felt it necessary for the first time to report this on trip advisor. Disgraceful!

A fantastic tiny little pub offering an incredible wine experience. All you do is walk in and choose a bottle of something interesting from the wine merchant and owner Pete. He will even come to the table and give you the history of the wine. Absolutely wonderful! Definitely make the time to pay a visit.

Unfortunately the owners seem more concerned with selling bottles of wine that running a true village pub. Hopefully they will realise that to take up a fair size of the pub with wine racks is not the way forward. The owners are new to the trade so we will need to give them time. But it is a village pub not a wine bar or off licence.

This is a lovely pub. Charming, old fashioned, homely, friendly. They also self brew - there were a couple on when we were there, both very good indeed. But the food much more so so. Should have known a bit of what to expect by a - the very lengthy 'home made' menu, implying it can't all be fresh/made to order and b - being told that the Thai Curry was unavailable as his wife had been away for 2 weeks and not made any. Two of the party had peppered chicken strips which they enjoyed Pip had spring rolls which were so so Our son and I had the burger. Advertised as 'red poll beef' this was a real disappointment. Thin, dry, overcooked. But also the 'burger' was simply the cooked patty put, totally on its own, in an unbuttered nor adorned dry, cheap, tasteless, untoasted bun. No mayo. No other built in accompaniments eg tomato or lettuce or pickle. Simon, just in case, emphasised that he didn't want any cheese, just in case it came with a slice of melted cheese. So I was asked if I wanted cheese and said yes. What came was a small bowl of grated cheese ?!

We found this place while staying in an air bnb two doors down. Arriving late at night after a long drive we were made most welcome by Nigel the landlord in time to have a couple of pints of his own brewed ale and a crowd pleasing glass of wine. After a good chat with the locals we were all on first name terms, noticing on the specials board there was to be a “burns night supper” with ‘neeps n tatties’ the following evening, the landlord managed to squeeze us in for a table for 4. On our arrival the following night, we were warmly greeted by our names and previous drink choices. There is an extensive warming pub grub menu.. but We sat down to a feast of haggis for two of us, haddock and chips for one and the boozy beef pie for the other. All piping hot, great portions, home cooked food.. served by such friendly staff who could do no more for you, our glasses were topped up and the log fire kept burning.. this is how pub grub should be really served, not a smudge, a smear nor blob of foam to be seen!! Very little needs to said about the semi fredo desert... just have it and undo your top trouser button !! Delicious

Came across this little gem today after being at the farm with my daughter and best mate, we called the closest pub which do roasts which was here :) , I'm presuming it was nigel who answered whoever it was was an an absolute star, was polite on the phone and answered any questions we had without hesitation, upon entering the building we was a little skepital as it didn't look big but as soon as we walked in the friendly smiles from The staff who made us feel soo comfortable as we were outsiders and this did look like a local pub who just had locals go in, the best is yet to come... The food we had a roast and I can't remeber the last time I went into a pub for a roast and actually enjoyed it, today was the day and I was supposed to take a picture but we were soo hungry and it went down soo good we forgot, cannot fault this place, and I'll be coming back especially with the welcome we got and politeness we had just pure amazing this pub is, thank you for reading Ohh and the cauliflower cheese is to die for lol Sharna from Colchester

We were a group of 10 booked ahead. We had to order in advance because of the size of our party but this was easy to do and Nigel was very accommodating with special requests. The night of our meal was right in the middle of the "Beast from the East" weather and we knew the roads would be dicey, especially later that evening. We rang Nigel at fairly short notice to ask if we could bring our reservation time forward by an hour to allow us to travel and return home before worse weather caught us out. This was agreed quite easily. When we arrived, we were welcomed very nicely, our table was ready for us and we were served all 3 courses in good time, but without feeling at all rushed. The food was delicious. We ate quite a variety of the menu between us and all of the party were very happy with their meals. The venison casserole, made with local venison, was wonderful! The pub itself is small and cosy, our hosts very friendly and charming, the food great, and the price extremely reasonable. We will most definitely be back. Thanks Nigel and Sue.

Booked in advance as group of 12 after reading some great reviews. Due to size had to order in advance, but really easy to do on the website, and a nice touch with the landlord calling to confirm. Is a small pub but really welcoming feel. Our drink orders were taken at the table, and throughout the service was simply fantastic. The food matched. Personal favourites of the group were the mushroom and Stilton with tons of bread on the side, and the pies (both boozy beef and chicken, ham and mushroom) went down a treat. All 12 of us were impressed with the food and in particular the really welcoming atmosphere. If I'm back in the area would not have to think twice about returning - and would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area

My wife and I were staying up the road at The Crown but, feeling a little uncomfortable with the rarified atmosphere of the place, decided to take a walk to see what else was on offer in this lovely village. It's a good job we did because we discovered the King's Head and Brewery just up the road. It is a warm, friendly one-room pub, eclectically decorated and, quite clearly, the locals love the place. One our first night there was an open-mike night which was fantastic. Next night we walked in on the monthly charity quiz night and it was packed to the gills. The following night we decided to eat there and enjoyed brilliant food at very affordable prices and, even though we're wine drinkers we sampled the locally-brewed beer which was excellent. There's also a 'vinyl night' where old 'uns like us can bring their old albums and play them in the pub. A pity I didn't have any LPs in the car! The owner of this pub has worked out a way to make each night interesting, enjoyable and welcoming. He obviously works very hard, but enjoys what he does and what he's created. I'd thoroughly recommend The King's Head to anyone passing through Bildeston. Bring your guitar, bring your old Dylan records, bring a healthy appetite. Brilliant.

I have visited this pub for the Open Mic Night on two occasions , both when in the area on holiday. What a great place. Each person who puts their name down to perform has no more than 3 songs , which works well because you get to hear lots of people and a good variety of music. Make your way there on a Wednesday night for live music in a very relaxed setting. Be prepared to stand.

Great beer brewed on the premises, good choice of other drinks, a lovely warm fire. It's rustic and really clean with super loos. I'd recommend booking as there are only 5 or 6 tables.
