Found this place when trying to find somewhere a bit farther from the North Norfolk coast. Great food and good value too. Service was very attentive. Hope to come back soon.

Superb Norfolk Restaurant Week menu much enjoyed by five of us....first class cheese souffle starter....generous flat iron steaks cooked to perfection and 'wicked' desserts. All agreed amazing value with finest food quality backed with excellent service. We shall return.

Parking inadequate, on a Wednesday lunchtime in November there were no spaces and a number of cars needed to reverse out. On entering we were struck by the lack of atmosphere for a "country hotel", it seems more like an inner city chain hotel. When we ordered informing the waitress that one of us had a severe nut allergy (just for information/safety), we were shocked when her response was "yes, but do you like them?" - clearly there is a need for training! After all this the meal was excellent and the service during the meal very good. The lack of atmosphere and apparent lack of understanding of life threatening allergies, however, means that we won't return.

Having not served evening meals or lunches for over a year, the fully functioning restaurant is a very welcome facility in the village. The menu is varied and not stupidly priced. What we ate tonight was well executed and ample portions. The food is highly recommended. Not reviewed as 5 star because a couple of our group didn’t feel they were made to feel welcome. Disappointing as we could become very regular customers.

Great hotel , ideal central location for visiting North Norfolk . Friendly staff , great breakfast and comfortable and clean well decorated accommodation. The hotel did warn us weeks in advance that evening meals were not available due to staff shortages, which is unfortunate as we have previously stayed here and the restaurant was very good but at least , with being pre warned , we made other arrangements for evening meals . We had considered staying at an alternative hotel but discounted this idea as the Kings Head represents good value for money and we will be rebooking for next year.

This spot is absolutely rubbish, wanted to write something else but Trippy did no... So no chef - no food only excuses.... At least you won't get fat on those. Impressive staff turnover, extremely poor décor. Parking is good and the one of two locals can be amusing

We needed a venue for a suprise 92nd birthday party for a very special person who lives in the area. Almost 30 friends and colleagues were coming from all over the country. We liaised closely in advance with the delightful manager Lisa Raines. She was not only helpful but proactive and inventive as well. Nothing was too much trouble. the rooms were very nice, all the staff were helpful but Kieran was extra helpful with technical things for our slideshow and we couldn't have done it without him. As a result, the day, the surprise, the room layout and the lunch were all just perfect. The food was marvellous too. We hope that the Kings Head can find a chef as good as the event chef so that they can open their dining room again for lunches and dinners. We are very grateful for everyone's help in making this an unforgettable party.

Visited for lunch - friendly staff and reasonable food but completely soulless environment and lacking in atmosphere. Someone has missed a trick here as the outside of this place is interesting and welcoming. How can it be so empty when most places are bursting at the seams?

The Cromer crab salad was fantastic as was all the meals especially the porridge on the last morning and the toast was hot, unusual for a hotel

We popped in on the off chance after lunchtime on our way back from a walk around The Burnhams to Congham Hall for something light. Although lunch had finished the young lady on reception could not have been more welcoming and friendly and we were soon sat down with sandwiches in very comfortable surroundings. Lovely place, food was perfect and just the most loveliest of staff. Many thanks

We visited for dinner whilst staying locally. The hotel has been redecorated and the interior was very white and rather bland. The food was okay, but we felt we were eating in a very clinical environment. This is the only restaurant in Great Biircham and looks lovely from the outside, just needs a little warmth on the inside.

Visited on 24-09-2021, and subsequently again on 28-09-2021, whilst staycationing in Sandringham and on both occasions we were dealt with by Kieran, what a professional, polite & considerate member of staff; as was Chloe our server from the first visit. We booked tables for 6pm each evening, arriving early for drinks, which proved to be no issue whatsoever. Each meal was clearly freshly prepared - we had cauliflower & Stilton soup, pan seared scallops, cod in beer batter and fish cakes for our meals - they were extremely tasty, a credit to the chef(s). What a truly excellent venue, with excellent food and professional staff; a must location to visit.

Having had a good lunch here prior to lockdown we decided to break our journey and booked a table for dinner on this occasion. Have to say we were disappointed I ordered chicken which should have been served with a white wine jus. The sauce was dark in colour and so salty it ruined the whole meal. My partner ordered the fish platter which was very greasy. We did mentioned the saltiness of the chicken dish to staff but didn’t feel they took much notice we doubt the chef received our feedback.

Excellent food. The chefs and restaurant staff coped brilliantly despite having a wedding party in full swing on the terrace. The food was delicious, portions large, too large for us but doggy bag provided. My husband enjoyed the lamb shank and I have the hot seafood platter, I e cream best we had during a great stay in Norfolk - shame the weather didn’t live up to expectations!

I have read many reviews on hotels and restaurants in Norfolk, who all appear to be suffering problems, shortage of staff, those present under trained, hence poor service and second rate food. None of this applies to The Kings Head. We were met with a smile and had we a reservation, which we did. Would we like pre dinner drinks, yes. The drinks came promptly, plus the menu. Enjoyed our drinks and placed our order. Invited to the table, spotless, and starter duly came. I had fish cakes with salad excellent as were my wife’s tempura prawns in the lightest of batter. I opted for dover sole as a main, my wife lamb shank, again both excellent. We had no room for a desert so had coffee in the lounge area of the bar. All in all a most pleasant evening. Staff attentive and everywhere was spotless. We will certainly return.

Looks good Very clean and bright .popped in for tea and cake or snacks and nothing was available so we’re very disappointed not even offered a biscuit.

We are regular visitors to this area of Norfolk and having previously stayed here with excellent rooms,service and food, we were looking forward to a return stay. However we were very disappointed to find the shower tray was dirty, the sink was missing its plug...

The kings head surpassed all my expectations! Beautiful hotel with a big car park and stunning decor inside! Staff are all fantastic! Especially the lady who made us a breakfast bag as we were going early! Food in the restaurant was just perfect (see pictures)...

This is a lovely restaurant, and the Sunday lunch was perfect, excellent roast beef cooked to perfection , and very attentive service from Richard at the bar. Service in the restaurant slow and haphazard not helped by the owner running from pillar to post interfering...

When we arrived, the staff were very friendly and showed us to our table. The waitress promptly took our order, and our food took about 30 minutes to come. It was really delicious, and overall - an excellent experience.

We arrived on Saturday lunch time for a two night break . Following a relaxing sandwich lunch in the bar we went to our room. A cold , wet day , we would have preferred the heating to be turned on in the room but I can truthfully say that was the only negative point of an otherwise excellent weekend.Despite a very busy restaurant on Saturday night our food was freshly prepared and the fish some of the best I have eaten !Breakfast was freshly cooked to order . Good food and service was key during our stay ....the staff were pleasant and anxious that we should enjoy our stay ...what more can I say .

Manager less than helpful. Only couple in for Sunday lunch and we were seated at a table in a corridor between door to bar and restaurant which was very noisy as the Manager kept clomping through in her high heels which was not conducive to a quiet Sunday lunch. She couldn't care less!!

My partner and I have visited the Kings Head once or twice recently for coffee and decided to book a meal this evening as DNA (the Band) were playing.We booked a table in the Bar area which the staff were happy to accommodate.We chose to share the Mussels to start with. Absolutely delicious I then had the Lambs Liver which came with a mash and ham hock side as well as bacon, roasted shallot and green beans. Thoroughly enjoyable. My partner had the Sea Bass. For dessert, he had the Bread and Butter Pudding. I tried a little. It is not generally a favourite of mine, but this was the best ever! I had a Pecan Ice Cream. Yummy!Very good service. Had a great dinner last night with every one of our meals being fantastic! The menu had a great selection of dishes, and the bar was well stocked with excellent beers and spirits. The staff were all brilliant and to add to it all there was a fantastic band playing. We'll being going back next week.

As fish lovers we were spoiled for choice! We enjoyed crab salad, crab linguine, white trout and a mixed fish platter! (Don't worry if you are not keen on fish - there is a tantalising choice of alternatives!) The food was tasty and well presented.We were served by a charming but very professional young man - full marks to him as well as the chef!

Sorry, but one of the worst Sunday lunches ever in North Norfolk.Lamb was tough and gristley. Gravey was sweet tasting. Depressing.

Weekend away for work, we est here for 3 nights chef, service absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend.

The quality of rooms for the price charged is not value for money. The standard rooms are very poor quality. When does shabby chic become tired and run down ?. Food quality hit and miss some food tasted bad and was sent back. Staff are not pleasant when concerns are raised, no training on customer service. The owner just says she hasn’t had this problem before !!!!. Maybe she should read a few reviews or maybe it’s going through a bad patch, we heard it was up for sale. There is much better to be found within 5 miles at much better value.

The service is great, people are very friendly and lovely.when we checked in I did not expect anything from the hotel on the road but I as wrong. We were checked in on the 18 th of April and a lovely gentleman welcomed us, showed the room and explained everything. The size of the room is good ( I had #4).when you walked into the room you can feel that you have absolutely everything you need, as the perfect size of towels, warm floor in bathroom, a complementary bottle of water and etc. And OMG breakfast!!!!!!! I had the best bacon in my life! It was a great stay! I will definitely come back!

On entering reception we were warmly greeted by Lisa the receptionist. In fact all the team were exceptionally pleasant which sets a lovely tone. Our room was very comfortable, however we were disturbed late at night and early morning by noise from the room above. We had stayed here before and the Food was our main reason for returning. We thought that this time the menu was limited especially as the only meat dish (Pork) apart from a £24 Sirloin steak, was not available. It was basically the same menu the following evening. Breakfasts are superb and cooked to order. We will still return again as it is good value.

I have been here several times and it’s been good food. Went last Saturday night ordered 2 steaks and fish and chips, the fish had no taste at all and was poorly battered and cooked. The sirloin steaks were both very fatty, very chewy and not well cooked neither. We did complain and asked for discount as I hate paying for rubbish food that I could cook better at home myself. The manager wouldn’t knock anything off which I thought was small minded in mentality, if she’d knocked a tenner off the bill and apologised I would go back. As she argued with me that the dinner was good even though it was poor and she hadn’t seen or tasted my dinner I now won’t go back. It wasn’t about the money I can certainly afford an £84 meal if it’s worth it and not what you would expect to find in a cheap 3 star hotel! Sorry manager you didn’t handle the complaint well neither, need yo brush up on your customer service skills.

We have visited this restaurant and stayed a the hotel many times in the past 10+ years but sadly it has lost its appeal.

An excellent third stay in this very friendly hotel where the staff, the rooms and the meals are of a very high standard. Highly recommend.

We visited twice between Christmas and new year as we were staying locally.

Just had Christmas Day lunch very warm welcome, drinks in bar and complimentary champagne before being escorted to table,table dressed out for Christmas spotlessly clean excellent wine list at reasonable prices, food and service could not fault every course from starters to dessert first class have eaten all over Uk and Europe this is one of the best meals a hidden gem in Norfolk countryside will definitely be goin back.

So booked for 3 of us the Sunday before Christmas. We had two courses plus 2 desserts to share.Absolutely fantastic starters I had smoked haddock gratin stunning. Husband and friend had parfait plentiful. Venison and steak lovley, cooked to perfection. Chicken really really good no ham sauce to top it off. Desserts amazing nice ending. Definitely return. What a really nice clean place. We were booked for food yesterday on a coach visit to Thursford Christmas Show. This was for a Christmas Lunch. The food was ample and very good with extra vegetables where necessary and service was quick and efficient. Great choice to eat by tour operator. Very pleasant attentive staff.

Went for lunch during the Norfolk Restaurant Week. We chose the King's Head because we hadn't been here for a few years and it was under new management. The food was nicely presented and tasty. My wife had mussels for a starter which was big enough for a main. The service was friendly and attentive. Apparently the chef had only been there for 1 day; I suggest they hang on to him as he got everything about right.

We stayed here for two nights last week with our little dog on a secret escapes deal. One night included a two course meal but we ate in the restaurant both nights, with different choices each night & we could not fault the food or service. Cooked breakfast was equally good and cooked to order. Only thing missing in my opinion was fresh fruit there was none at all.

We had two breakfasts and one 3 course evening meal as part of our stay at the Hotel. Meals were all extremely well presented and of a very good standard. Staff were very helpful and polite.

One of now a large number of restaurants in Norfolk opening their doors for a limited period with fixed price limited menus. A great opportunity to eat somewhere different or even experiment. The deal is £18 for 2 courses, £23 for 3 courses generally. The menus have 4 choices of each course from which to choose. We both opted for a delicious roasted tomato and bell pepper soup coming with warm rustic bread. We then both had pan fried pork and limited veg. Absolutely mouthwatering but another 2 or so potatoes would have been good. However my Sandringham apple crumble with adequate custard was huge and the cheese and biscuits at no extra charge was also big. Staff pleasant helpful but unfortunately only 2 at front of house to action everything meaning service standard could and should have been higher but no fault of the hard working staff themselves. Perhaps there were more Norfolk Restaurant week diners than anticipated?

Four of us ate here on 14/09/18. Meals were excellent and the staff were welcoming and helpful. Especially appreciate that dogs are welcome in the bar where we ate. Would definitely return here on our next break.

The room was very good size , large bed decent sized en suite.

The room was a good size and it was really quiet which was good so had a good nights sleep.The TVs was rather small for the room it that was the only thing wrong.We also ate here and the food was good quality and plenty of choice

I visited here with my parents while staying at a local B&B.; We were slightly dissapointed with the menu as the selection was small but there wood good options. The food was good and fairly well priced but the service really ruined the ocassion. Despite asking to see the wine menu and having a wine menu given to us the server never came back until the end of the meal to take plates and ask if we wanted desserts. It seemed they were understaffed and not very attentive or welcoming at all.

Lovely rooms in this modernised yet homely hotel. Food in the restaurant was good and very reasonably priced, staff were very accommodating and friendly throughout, if a little overworked at breakfast on Sunday. Overall, highly recommended and will definitely stay again.

Picked this spot for supper on our first night in Norfolk, it was a Sunday and a good job we booked!!

First visit to Norfolk. Very nice hotel, clean and comfortable. Food good and excellently cooked, especially the home made pizza. Menu changed daily. Staff friendly and helpful. Two criticisms: on two days only the owner was available for breakfast service, reception, and answering the phone. The second is that despite multiple notices some guests smoked in the outside eating area.when a member of staff was asked to speak to them she just said it's difficult to stop them.

We visited this place for the first time on Saturday Night. We were greeted by a bar man that was definitely over the top. We went through to the restaurant the food was lovely but the staff were running round like headless chickens even though they weren't busy . Staff were discussing customers where other guests could hear clearly. Something must have gone wrong with an order as it was heard one member of staff saying to another "just tell them there is a problem in the kitchen." One group was then seated only to find that there was only 3 chairs and they needed 4. They were moved to another table, got sat down then moved back to their original table. 'Their' dessert was brought but they hadn't had their starters. A member of another party asked for ordinary peas instead of crushed peas but got no peas. Another party had a problem with their bill they had someone else's drinks on it. The person in charge was rude and abrupt to them and said that she would have to check with the bar staff about the order when it was her who had taken their order at the table. All in all it was like a sketch out of Faulty Towers.

We live close by to the pub/restaurant, and have visited three times in the past month for dinner. The menu is small, but what I like the best is the fact that there is constant change to the menus, so that you avoid the risk of running out of options.

Had a lunch on bank holiday Monday and it seemed we were the only table occupied which does say a lot about the food on offer ,

Seeing a recent restaurant review, I felt somewhat hesitant to our forthcoming Sunday lunch in the bar at The Kings Head, Bircham. I need not worry. Dogs were welcome but I emphasise, only in the bar area. Having eaten, more than once, previously in the restaurant, prior to having our chocolate lab, I was surprised at the review with the Daschund!

My husband and myself visited on a Saturday lunchtime, we phoned ahead and reserved a table.

We stopped for a quick lunch on the way back from a walk at the coast. The food was average to good, My daughter had fish and chips, the chunky chips were a little undercooked. The main problem was lack of staff, the young waitress was polite and happy but the older lady appeared to be a real mood, felt very uncomfortable. Then we waited about 20 mins at the bar to pay. It's a shame as we work really hard and were looking forward to a nice meal out with my daughter, we rarely get time out as a family, but I can't say we felt at all welcome here and won't be back.

We had 2 nights here in February hotel was very quiet but Service was excellent from reception, to restaurant and housekeeping. We had a lovely superior room. Food was of a high standard. Loved the breakfast options especially the eggs benedict and would suggest you eat in restaurant. Good value for money. Will return.

Spent Christmas Eve to 27th December at this lovely hotel (Christmas package). The food was fantastic, the owners were lovely and very guest focussed. Little touches really made it special. This was the first Christmas with my new partner and we wanted to do something different. This was perfect and totally relaxing. Would recommend visiting at any time.

Visited this restaurant as part of Norfolk restaurant week. Hadn’t been here for years so seemed a good chance to revisit. Really impressed with the food, the service and the surroundings. Lovely bar area for pre-dinner drinks. The restaurant itself is spacious and has a nice atmosphere - it was pretty much full which was good to see. We all had two courses which were beautifully presented and delicious. We couldn’t manage a dessert! Wine prices sensible. Service was first class. Now we have re-discovered this place we intend to return regularly as we only live a 20 minute drive away. Would highly recommend.

Visited 10/11/17 with friends for Norfolk restaurant week, and so glad we decided to give this place a try. Not visited for years, despite it only behind some 7 miles away. Will we return? You bet we will! Lovely atmosphere, staff very friendly providing great service, and the food was excellent. The four of us had different mains, and were all faultless and very tasty. Drink prices very sensible, making whole evening good value for money for the quality of food we had. With all the good pubs/restaurants we have in the area, I would say this is up there amongst the best we’ve visited for a while. Thank you!

Just spent two nights here and highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and myself both had the Mediterranean Vegetable Tagliatelle for lunch accompanied by a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. Both the food and wine were delicious. I have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to others.

Lovely food and nice staff! Quite expensive for a bar menu but big portions that were well cooked. The fish and chips and mixed grill were particularly good, huge piece of fish.

This was the first time we had visited this pub/restaurant since the new owners took over. We were lucky that the sun was shining so we were able to eat outside on the pretty patio. Service was good - attentive and professional. My fish cake starter was quite tasty but my beef strogonoff was tough and the strips of meat were too big. It should have been a fillet cut but quite evidently wasn't. My husband had chosen the sirloin steak which was also tough - probably the same meat as mine.

Good location for all atractoin. Staff treat us as friends. Food was very good, and i am fussy eater. Patio its like you abroad. DOGS WELCOME. What you want more?

Que comí mi camino a través del menú mientras que en la zona. Las tres noches tenía espárragos frescos locales, lo cual fue encantador. Las dos primeras noches fueron asada en sus más elegantes arreglos con huevos escalfados y la última noche me hicieron una sencilla versión de vapor. We needed an early dinner and were certainly delighted with what we found. The food was excellent as were the drinks. We were served by extremely pleasant young people who made our meal a real delight. We shall, as General McArthur once said, return.

Llamamos por primera vez para el almuerzo de hoy. Tuve la hamburguesa y mi esposa tenía el bistec de solomillo. Ambos estaban deliciosos y perfectamente cocinado, como las patatas fritas, que estaban en el exterior y esponjosas por dentro. La botella de Pinotage también era muy agradable.

Nos alojamos en el hotel para una escapada de fin de semana y tengo que decir que disfrutamos de la experiencia completamente - el personal en el hotel era nada pero atento, tanto en la recepción como en el restaurante. La habitación era enorme y muy cómoda, el desayuno era agradable, y la experiencia fue fluida en todo momento. Servicio de comida increíble, el personal amabilísimo no es barato pero sin duda vale la pena una visita. Llevamos 3 perros sucio y no era problema de la batata y sopa de coco era muy rico. La cerveza pescado maltratado se presentó muy bien y parecía fresco. En cuanto a la ginebra tome su hora de salida de los 87

Acabo de reserva y almorcé puedo decir honestamente que este es la mejor comida que he probado en mucho tiempo. Esperamos a la cena de esta noche.

Almuerzo de Navidad Día Kings Head era buena. Lugar encantador, la comida era estupenda. Bienvenida con champagne, así que nos ayudó!

Nos hicimos 2 campos para comer el domingo. 2 de nosotros tuvimos el Halibut con salsa de vino blanco, 2 tenían el hongo wellington y otro el venado de tarta, todas de acuerdo en que era muy deliciosos y bien presentados. Los pudines también eran encantadoras y entre nosotros probamos el tiramisu, Apple y el ruibarbo, posset de nuevo todos estamos de acuerdo en que estaba delicioso y perfecto. El personal era atento y educado

Went for lunch, Resturant was very quiet which was unexpected as other places were fully booked. Food was mediocre and the service wasn't great. Expensive meal for what was very disappointing. Won't be returning any time soon.
