Great pub in the centre of Aylesbury in a National Trust 15th Century old coaching inn. Good selection of real ales from local brewing company, Chiltern Brewery. No TVs or music, which is great. Can get quite busy inside, but there is a large outside space.

My wife and I popped in for the 3 course Sunday lunch in the new, Great Hall section of the pub. Absolutely superb! Everything was delicious, meat cooked perfectly, deep rich gravy and the homemade Yorkshire pudding was 👌. Couldn’t fault it. The apple tart for dessert was excellent. Compliments to the chef 👏. The staff are a real asset to the business. We felt very well looked after and they couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be back and recommend booking a table! The Great Hall is steeped in history and has clearly been carefully restored. Thanks for a great experience!!

Well my friend and I returned here Wednesday and was so disappointed. I once again ordered the Black bean burger which was burnt to a crisp around the edges and as I tapped it with my knife it was rock hard so I returned it. Waited a while for replacement which was also burnt [ not charred ] I took it as my poor friend was trying to waiting for mine to arrive to eat her meal which spoilt it for her. Well when trying to eat chips I ended up picking them up with my fingers as too hard to stick my fork into them, perhaps they were reheated? Well it was a meal I had looked forward to spoilt and not at all like last one we had there.

Upon entering the staff were friendly and pleasant. After sitting for a few minutes we realise the other staff members apparently an assistant manager was found to have a poor attitude and rude. The manager also sitting afar watching had little backbone when call upon in the first instance. Would not advise to visit on this alone

Beautiful. Everything you want from a truly classic English pub. The food is excellent, the atmosphere and aesthetic of the pub is charming and soothing. There is a wall showcasing the selection of ales. The staff are polite, friendly and proactive. If you're visiting Aylesbury, this is you top choice for lunch.

Love the Kings Head! A true historical gem in the heart of Aylesbury. A fine selection of beers, ales and ciders which you are welcome to sample before you buy. The food is also really good and you feel comfortable eating in the bar area. It can be a bit pricey though if you're there for a few rounds and food, but you won't leave disappointed.

This place feels like it's not a place locals would drink, rather oriented around people who have never visited Aylesbury before & never will again – barman here seemed a bit too eager to get me to part with my money, exhibiting that same vice as Prussian waiters of assuming "water" means bottled sparkling water and glaring at me with derision when I specified tap water: furthermore, attentive in all the ways a guest doesn't appreciate and none of the ways a guest does – he put ice in the water despite my specifying without ice. I have a dream, and it's a place like this that offers itself up as a true public house. Too often, I find the pubs of today give me the impression that their one purpose and intend is to sell me expensive drinks; I am welcome for as long as I am willing to exchange banknotes for beer and no longer. This may sound like just a business, but the English pub is world-famous precisely because it is not thought of as "just a business". The inn of my dreams stops selling alcohol at 11pm, but its doors remain open into the small hours. Everyone being kicked out at closing time is not a ending to the night's mirth that befits dignified surroundings; rather, I dream of patrons leaving gradually until the last handful are left sitting round the fireside exchanging craic with the barmaid. Or even, for that matter, stay open until the dawn, at which point the morning shift takes over & starts selling coffee to commuters on weekdays or hangover cures to revellers at weekends; why should I eat my beans and bacon amid the harsh formica and linoleum of the caff on a plastic chair that I can't move, or in the garish greens and yellows of McDonald's while Taylor Swift sings at me over a loudspeaker, when there is a far nobler saloon just around the corner, empty save for its own staff who sit around waiting for their work to begin?

We had great service and fantastic beer, especially liked the Chiltern Brewery IPA @Birchall Earl Grey, subtle and full flavoured at the same time. The food was beautiful and really nicely presented and the surroundings/decor can't be matched in this area. If you get chance to go in, the 'Great Hall is top notch. Such history with great food and beer, served by friendly staff, what could be better! I payed this place a visit today, as it was recommended to me by a friend, I liked it, it had a very cozy vibe, the food was okay-ish but i’m a foreigner and i’m new to the UK food (plus i’m a bit of a picky eater). Overall I did enjoy my stay there, but one thing left a big impression on me (it’s the main reason my rating is so low). I overheard one of the employees (tall, skinny, old man) making some very strange and racist remarks that left a bitter feeling in me. That behaviour is utterly ineligible for a person that is more or less the face of the brand when they are on shift. I will NOT be staying there again and I would not recommend any of my friends visiting either. I am disappointed that this behaviour is tolerated by their boss, it is not normal behaviour that should be accepted in this day and age!

The Kings Head, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. (Saturday 24th February 2024). This historical gem hidden away in the very heart of Aylesbury town is run by a devoted family business and local Chiltern Brewery. This review is solely to praise their Flat Iron Steak I had this evening for the second time. A perfectly cooked medium-rare melt in your mouth pre-sliced generous portion of steak serviced with great fries, a large single portobello mushroom, pine nuts, half a grilled Little Gem and leafy salad. As a keen amateur cook, BBQ Pro and steak perfectionist, I’ve got to compliment the chef for the amazing aroma this Flat Iron steak gives off which follows through into the taste! Simply delicious. 5 STARS!

We came for dinner so we ordered 2 starters cauliflower and the terrine. The cauliflower was OK but for the price I was expecting little bit more on the plate 3 pieces of cauliflower and sauce nothing special for 9£ the terrine was big shock for me , little piece of something on plate with 3 little dots of mustard on the top ,with pickles from jar and 1 small piece of bread again very expensive. The ale was smelling nasty ,we ordered each one of the burgers I have the heritage burger and it was the worst I seen in my life. On menu are loads of fancy names but it's got nothing to do with reality . Chips from bag ,I didn't touch the burger and left . 90£ for nothing . I'm chef I know something about food and I can tell you weatherspoon is much better then this place. Please people avoid it. Its not worth it . Place is nice for drink but not for food. I'm very disappointed. And raw mushroom on plate with the terrine. I don't believe you are making your own bread because what we got was bread from supermarket! Overall place is nice but not for food. Big 👎 👎 👎 👎

The King’s Head is truly a gem hidden in plain sight! Such a great and welcoming place is a couple of steps away from the everyday city shops that can be seen all around town. The atmosphere within is one of a kind! The place is a great escape from the everyday stress that there is in the 21st century, as it’s atmosphere consists of people’s laughter and chatter, a warm fire and the great smell of warm food and cold ale. The walls within are filled with different frames with contents ranging from old pictures with explanations to even newspaper cutouts with a lot of interesting facts about the place, the owners and the ales. The staff within the King’s Head is great, as they are always happy to help, whether you’re just passing by, ordering drinks or even asking a question about the place’s history! They bring the best service to the customer, no matter what the order might be, while also being able to hold a friendly conversation and make you laugh! As for the food, it is truly something that words cannot describe. Before going to the King’s Head, I had tried a Veggie Burger a couple of times at other restaurants and a couple of fast food places, but I never thought anything of it or the taste, though after having a Veggie Burger there, It showed me a burger doesn’t need to have meat in order to taste great. The best part of the burger was the way the bean patty and the sauces fit together into an amazing mixture of taste. Overall, the King’s Head is a MUST visit if you ever find yourselves in Aylesbury, as it offers a great relaxing atmosphere, truly amazing food and a lot of exceptional drinks!

Had a take away and wasn't impressed. Went a few days ago with friends thinking eating in would be fresher than eating out of plastic tubs. Shared a vegetarian platter with my wife. Thought it was a bit flavourless. Ordered the Chicken in a sweet and sour sauce. Thought the sauce was very watery and the chicken tasted off,the pinapple also lack flavour. Didn't eat any of it. Very disappointed and won't be going back anytime soon. It's a shame as it's very local and convenient. Staff are friendly but food let's it down Didn't say anything on the day. But I'm saying it now. I have seen one similar review to this and I believe that to be correct too. They need to up their game.
