Fantastic food and even better service, great place to eat out.

Food was good as expected and the service was just perfect, we had a lovely meal , the two waiters where very busy even though they've took good care of us, thanks specially to Jamie that brought us the bread with butter and suggested to try it with olive oil and we loved it , I believe that those guys work better without all the screaming and some misbehaving from the owner, unfortunately I witnessed that twice already,don't know how they can cope with that tbh.... I'm a business owner myself and my staff are like family, they make my business what it is, I think the owner should think and change his bad habits towards his staff and customers, I know people that don't go there anymore even when I invited them... Thanks guys for making Canaletto the place with the best service in Aylesbury/Bicester area

I'm a regular, love the place . This time been there with friends and they where impressed,they enjoyed the food. The waiter came and told us the specials, he recommended us a bottle of Rispasso and let me tell, spot on! Thanks to all the the staff but specially thank you Jamie for taking such good care of us

Wednesday 11th September 2024, after visiting Waddesdon Manor, my husband and I left and drove to the nearby village of Kingwood, where we had a table booked at the ‘Canaletto’, a lovely Italian restaurant. We had booked a table here for 5.30pm. The Canaletto is a lovely stone building with beams and a open fireplace and a lovely well stocked bar and a very light and airy restaurant, which has a really nice atmosphere. The manager and his lovely right hand man Jaime are so caring and attentive and welcome you as if you are family, which is really nice. My husband and I had pre-dinner drinks in the bar. My husband had a pint of Brill Bitter and I had a lemoncello and ice, and we sat in two comfortable blue velvet chairs whilst we studied the extensive menu which was really mouth watering. After a little while Jaime came to take our food and drink order. Later, we were escorted into the restaurant to a nice table for two. The tables are beautifully laid out with white napkins and silver cutlery and shiny glassware. The service is very professional and the food is excellent and very well presented. My husband for his starter had the Traditional Italian pasta and bean soup which was served with a selection of Italian breads and butter. My husband said the soup was delicious. For my starter I had deep fried Italian cheese which was served with a beetroot salad and red peppers and fennel, which was delicious. It was just the right size to get the palate started. My husband for his main course had venison in a port and blackberry sauce and served with roasted root vegetables and new potatoes. My husband said the venison was so succulent it just melted in the mouth. For my main course I had veal in a Marcela sauce and served with mushrooms and rosemary roasted potatoes. I also had a side dish of buttered spinach. The veal was succulent and tender and just melted in the mouth. We washed all this lovely food down with a glass of Italian sauvignon blanc for me and a glass of Italian merlot for my husband. We both had desserts; My husband had the home-made crème brulee, which he said was delicious. I had fresh oranges in a Grand Marnier sauce, which was lovely and light and the perfect finish to my meal. We did not bother with any teas or coffee’s afterwards, as we were very well fed and very contented. We left here at 8.00pm and then drove back home to Birmingham in the pouring rain. This restaurant serves Italian food at its best with five stars for food and staff.

Absolutely lovely. Made with great attention, care, and confidence in cooking Italian food. Obviously, it is a team that pays attention to detail and service. We wish we had visited sooner and will hopefully soon be back.

I've been there this evening for the second time in 2 weeks and need to thank to the Portuguese waiter because he took such good care of us.. very professional and always with a smile. We love him and all of you, food is getting even better. Heard some strange conversation from another waiter wich was wierd but nonetheless, overall was a lovely dinner. Thank you all once again makinf us feel at home.

Once again went to Canaletto s and had the same warm welcoming , Jamie was our waiter and explained us that they have a new Chef and told us the specials. Everything was lovely and for the food was upgraded 😊 we really enjoyed, thanks

Amazing food and amazing environment.

Heartily recommend this place after coming here with my two favourite people, for the first time on 27 July. Jaime and Ruben are maestros, professionals whose attentive but not intrusive service compliment the excellent food and wine. Pubs converted into restaurants don't always work and you won't feel like you've stepped into a lush part of Italy for a couple of hours. But what Canaletto lacks in authentic interiors it makes up for with the food and service. We look forward to returning for a second sitting to see if they can do it again!

Lovely food and very welcoming staff (jimmy served us) great choice on the menu staff were well equipped with knowledge of wine pairings to help us with our evening! Warm and welcoming atmosphere will happily be back!!

Food was excellent, staff were lovely and friendly, atmosphere was lovely, my only gripe was I had to keep asking for stuff, such as a top up or desert menu etc...they were extremely busy so I felt another member of staff out serving would have been good.

We had a family lunch and despite the late hour of our arrival we were warmly welcomed. Our waitter Jimmy challenged us to try some new dishes and provided us a great choice of wine, took great care of us as usual, nice and thoughtfull and always in a great mood. The food and Jimmy will keep us on coming back. Just another lovely experience in food paradise.

I've been a customer for more than a year and I noticed some ups and downs with the service. Last few times we've been served by a fantastic waiter, he definitely knows What's doing but the rest of the staff look lost ... One of the members of the staff, don't know if he's a waiter or the manager never came to our table not even to ask if everything's was ok but he came instead to talk about his personal life and about his hometown, honestly was a bit too much. Thankfully the same guy saved our family meal. I'm sorry but I think you guys can do a bit better .

The best roast dinner I have ever eaten in a restaurant! We booked for Sunday lunch. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The rib roast was delicious. The meat was fabulous quality and cooked to perfection, the Yorkshire was huge and the veg and roasties cooked perfectly. No reheated potatoes or soggy vegetables here! The roast dinner was only improved upon by the puds. All home made and delicious. There was something for everyone in the selection, from chocolate mousse, cheesecake, gateaux, lemon meringue, apple strudel and more. It's very rare to find a proper homemade pud these days. So many places just buy them in. We travelled an hour and a half to meet family who were coming from the midlands but if we're ever in the area again we won't think twice about where to eat.

My partner and I came here on Saturday evening with his daughter and her boyfriend and were all very impressed. The restaurant is beautiful and very welcoming. All staff are knowledgeable and engaging. The service is attentive but not too much. The best part though was the food which was absolutely superb. We all had three courses and enjoyed every single mouthful. It was a great touch to have a dessert trolley rather than just seeing the menu as it sold the fabulous puddings so well and we couldn’t resist! What a pleasurable experience this was for all of us. We haven’t stopped talking about Canaletto and will definitely be back.

Lovely atmosphere, but food was mostly blant and overpriced. Today's "specials" were not worth the money. Prawns were overcooked. Overall, arancini was the only starter we liked and otherwise portions are filling. We also were given incorrect meals, but this was immediately rectified.

Lovely authentic Italian restaurant. Had a duck , canollini and sirloin steak. Awesome taste and presentation. Great choice of desserts. Highly recommended.

Great food in the restaurant, Italian themed. Canaletto though still is a friendly place for those who want a quick snack and a drink from the bar. Prices for real ale and lager are very reasonable for an establishment which prides itself in good food. During the winter months there is a warm glow from the open wood fire. There is plenty of secure parking, with a very short walk to the restaurant entrance or terrace. Some very good cocktails available and a half price happy hour on cocktails before 19.30

This place is an actual authentic Italian place. The menu is great, there isn’t 100 different Pizzas for example. The pasta - this is the first time I’ve had a Pasta that was good in the U.K. I normally hate ordering Pasta as it’s usually tragic but this was genuinely excellent. If you want good Italian food - go here.

Canaletto is our new favourite Italian Restaurant. Food is delicious, the service is fantastic, however the sweet trolley is the main attraction! Recommended for any special occasion (or if you're passing on the A41) - tip - try the olives!

Probably the worst pizza I ever had. The asparagus with cheese starter and the combination of different types of fish main were one of the most disappointing "specials" ever. And this was after more than an hour wait, listening to the loudest drunken customers sitting next to us.

We’ve been regulars for years but recently that home cooked feeling was lost. Clearly store bought gravy, ready made potatoes etc. To charge £25 for half a seabass and 5 boiled potatoes is just outrageous. Sadly we won’t be coming back.

We had a wonderful family Saturday lunch here today. The whole team were very welcoming and the food and service were first class. The salmon, cod and prawn special with saffron and white wine sauce was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back!

Having driven past the restaurant many times we thought time to give it a go. Disappointing I’m afraid . Wrong drinks served, table of 3 next to us arrived 15 minutes after us and we’re enjoying starters before we even had our order taken . The owner finally took our food order then a waiter cane to take it again as he lost it. Food came and main course was wrong. Never asked if we wanted more drinks. If Basil Fawlty and Manual had walked I wouldn’t of been surprised. The food was actually ok but the chaotic service spoilt everything. First time I have ever said well you can take off the discretionary service charge as their wasn’t any service ! First and last visit .

We visited today as a family, and had the warmest welcome when we arrived. All the staff were so lovely with our baby. The food was absolutely incredible! We had to leave early due to our baby being poorly and the staff made us feel so at home and were so kind. Can’t wait to come back again!

Mother’s Day menu was overpriced for what we had. Service wasn’t great either, felt like the staff were rather stressed ( lady asked to take our coats but never did, had to ask for water on the table, didn’t get asked if everything was ok with our meal) but not busy and not overly friendly which is completely different to the service we had back in June 2023.

This was the latest of our regular visits to Canaletto for lunch, and as ever the food and service was exceptional! The staff are always so friendly and helpful, and there's a lot of delicious options to choose from. The arancini starter is always fantastic, highly recommended, and their fresh pasta dishes are amazing too. We've never had anything less than a great experience here.

Been here many time. This visit was not so good. Saturday night & busy. 2 of us had 5 star meals: moules & arancini to start followed by veal & liver. 2 meals 1 star: calamari, chewy and cod special very dry & fish over cooked. Service etc all good.

We had passed Canaletto so many times over the years, and said we should go in, so decided to book our first visit and we were blown away with the restaurant, food and friendliness of the staff, we will definitely be visiting again thank you for a lovely evening.

Was here again with my family and as usual we had an amazing meal. Very quiet and sophisticated place. we all had different choices and all of them were extremelly tastefull and with a very elegant presentation. The staff is incredibly nice and polite and specially, our waiter Jamie was outstanding as he always is showing a great politness, being gentle and nice and patient providing us all with excellent meal suggestions and his deep knowledge of the proper wines. Just keep on recommending this place as the nicest restaurant in our area and, of course, will keep on coming back.

Came here for a friend’s 80th birthday meal in a large group…from the moment we walked in we were greeted by the very friendly Reuben. We were seated in the lovely conservatory which is beautiful..the food was delicious and the service brilliant. I could go on and on about this superb venue and if I could I would score it a six. We will definitely return

We had an early dinner after visiting Waddesdon manor. What an excellent place! The ambience was lovely and had nice Xmas decor, the food was also very good! Reasonably priced wines and attentive staff too, thank you.

this is a great place, where I love to go. great food, great place. however this evening was surprised by one of the waiters screaming asking everybody to stop eating to sing the Happy Birthday song. never expected not even in my wildest dreams, to be asked to stop eating at a restaurant. and specially to sing a song to someone I never saw before in my entire life. it was really a bizarre experience. fortunatelly we had another waitter, an amazing new guy extremelly polite and professional and an outstanding English fluent speaker. for sure will keep on being a customer as this new waitter definately convinced me and my husband this is still the Place to go a nice and quite meal.

Came for lunch on my birthday 28 Oct with OH and sister. Have passed by many times and avoided mistakenly thinking it would be one of those Italians with a huge menu with ready made dishes Wish we had tried earlier. Huge restaurant which was quite empty at lunch time but this did not spoil ambience. The menu had a good selection including vegetarian and I was torn whether to try the special and I had been assured that everything cooked to order - and I believe it was . the wines we chose were delicious and good value The staff were friendly and helpful but not overbearing - we certainly took a lot of their time by chatting with them (probably too much but they did not seem to mind) Look forward to returning soon and would certainly recommend Gracias and Grazie!

Mediocre food. I would say not better than chain restaurants like Zizzi or Pizza Express. Their so called recommended dessert like kind of pure liquid sugar. Don’t order it.

I was really looking forward to dining at this restaurant but boy was I disappointed. It states this is authentic Italian food but it could not be further from the truth. It is no more authentic Italian than an English teapot. I am Italian and no way is this the food I was brought up on or eat and my Nonna & Nonno's ( nan and grandad in italian) Italians allways strive on yummy food and big portions. And after my meal, If you could even call it that I was hungry when I left the restaurant. Starter: So my starter I had the insalata (prosciutto ham, pecorino cheese, seasoned asparagus and pea shoots) so whilst eating this I picked up a piece of prosciutto on my fork and a HUGE FLY crawled out from underneath. The fly seemed to have been stunned so I think it was in my dish in the fridge as the fly was just crawling around my plate. I immediately called the server and showed them the fly and they flicked the fly off the table and took my plate away. At this point I felt sick and horrified. The other two people on my table finished there starters and I was then presented with another starter and the server joked that here is a new one without the fly and laughed. I thought this was extremely disprectful. My starter was so small and no way should be £12. There was no traditional antipasti on the menu, no bread for the table, olives were £5 for about 6/7 olives. Very disappointing. Main: my main I wanted to try the pizza and I had the Calabrese sourdough pizza ( San marzano tomato, buffalo mozzarella, calabrian 'Nduja sausage and spicy silami) when it come out it was tiny, and the dough was soggy and under my pizza my plate was soaking wet with oil. This pizza was £16 and honestly could of had a better pizza from a high street takeaway. After all this I was very dissatisfied and would not recommend this restaurant. As an Italian myself this is no way authentic and I am disgusted this place calls it's self a Italian restaurant. As I said before I left this restaurant hungry and no Italian meal you should leave hungry. Regarding the fly in my starter I diddnt get an apology and the price of the starter was not taken off my bill. Very disappointing restaurant and would not recommend. Overpriced and very small portions

My Wife and I attended a Dinner Jazz evening at Canaletto on 13th September. For £49 each we enjoyed a superb 3 course meal and great 4 piece band, playing jazz classics. The ambience and attentive staff made the evening complete. We’re already looking forward to next month’s event!

It was my 60th birthday so I was looking for somewhere a little different, this was a great choice, The welcome was very friendly, the table was ready for us, the staff were attentive, polite and happy, there was a delay in 2 of our meals and the manager dealt with this before it became an issue, If you need a lesson in customer service this is how to do it, thank you, it actually made the occasion. The food was excellent, hot, tasty and filling, Will we return,,, most definitely, looking forward to trying something else from the menu

Had dinner this evening with a large table of 10. Service was 100% from the minute we arrived. Drinks and food came to the table in good time and the food was really nice and fresh. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks for a great evening.

Good food in pleasant surroundings.

Firstly I would like to start with the positives really lovely people. The food was nice I was expecting better if I’m honest given the prices and previous reviews. What unfortunately let it down for me we’re the desert costs £9 is just too expensive. I understand ingredient costs etc have risen but still I think that just let it down for us as they were not worth that cost. If they were chilled it would have helped but when they are going around on a trolly for the evening some deserts shouldn’t be at room temperature. But as I say lovely people.

Delicious food and excellent service. Great location and child friendly. Be sure to check the opening times before hand.

Perfect restaurant for a romantic date night. The food was superb, as was the wine selection, cocktails and service. My only negative was that the lobster linguine could have done with a bit more lobster at £32. Would highly recommend.

First visit here, will certainly be coming back. Menue selection was fantastic, really good range of food there will be something for everyone. Highlights at Canaletto : The deserts! Our Waiter rolled out a deserts trolley and absolutely everything looked amazing! We chose the lemon cake and home made tiramisu which was outstanding! My wife is itlian and can be very critical about the way itlian food is made in England, she said this was the best tiramisu she has EVER had! My Lemon cake was also extreamly good! I would come back just to try all the deserts! The Coffee, ... we like to try coffee everywhere we go and always make sure its as pure as it gets with a espresso. The Coffee here at Canaletto is easly the best in Aylesbury. Its not even close, espresso was beautiful we had 4! If you are ever passing by and just need a coffee for your journey this is the best coffee in town hands down! Lastly the service, Both waiters who served us today very polite, friendly and welcoming. Very glad we decide to book and make the journey, we shall most deffiently be returning. Very fairly priced aswell 5 stars!

We booked to celebrate Father's Day. Although the set menu looked utterly delicious, my husband and son had their hearts set on carbonara as it is their absolute favourite. This was kindly supplied by the kitchen, and it was as stunningly fabulous as ever. Lovely service and fantastic food. What more could we ask?

An end of work dinner for a team of 7 and every person more than happy with their orders. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, the surroundings are pleasant and inviting but most of all the food was superb. Unfortunately, a few of us were driving, so the wine list was reluctantly left alone. If this restaurant was local to me, I’d be a regular. Recommended.

Best italian meal I have eaten, food was superb! Authentic dishes cooked by Italians. Staff were attentive and pleasant, restaurant area accomodating. A brilliant night out. Arancini dish delicious, plus main courses, side dishes with tiramasu and lemon creme brulee for dessert, wonderful.

Booked table last min,great experience,not the cheapest but the food was great,the waiter (robin from Spain is a good lad with alot of time for customers) we will be going back soon 👍
