Super friendly and helpful staff. Room was spacious and clean. Evening meal was excellent. Had the Thai green curry which was served piping hot, very tasty and generous portion with a delicious sticky toffee pudding to finish. Thanks to everyone who looked after us.

We booked a table for 2 for 7.15 My wife ordered the lamb and I liked the sound of the beetroot wellington but it came with potatoes and spinach. I asked if I could have fries instead but was told it comes as a meal with spinach and potatoes. I didn’t really understand this, surely I could have had fries with the wellington even if I didn’t have the spinach. Anyway I decided to have the fish and chips instead. I wish I hadn’t bothered, the fish was very similar to a piece of frozen Birds Eye fish you get from the supermarket, not like a nice piece of battered fish you get from a fish and chip shop. Was very disappointed. The only good thing about our meal was the starter which was the battered bri. I would normally have had a sweet but decided that I wasn’t going to put any more of my hard earned cash over the bar. Overall I was disappointed.

The hotel room was comfortable; clean, spacious and good fittings. Staff were pleasant. However, the food overall was not good; soggy fish, hard peas. Breakfast was equally poor-urns of tea, not even hot water and tea bags……… I would stay in a room again, but choose to eat elsewhere

Wasn't expecting much other than standard pub fayre and mediocre service which has been our experience of eating out recently (knowing how hard it is to find good staff). We'd booked a table for 4 with our 2 dogs and tables were nicely spaced so room for the dogs. Good selection of beers and lagers on tap, decent G&T. The pub was busy with other diners and drinkers and was nice to see a pub which welcomes both. The menu was a good mix of standard pub fayre and some interesting other options. 2 of us opted for the half roast chicken with skinny fries Coleslaw and BBQ sauce (having seen it served to someone else and getting food envy) . One of us had the stuffed peppers and another the steak and ale pie. When our food arrived we were all impressed. The roast chicken fell off the bone, the chips were piping hot and plenty of BBQ sauce. A little stingy on the Coleslaw but thoroughly enjoyable. Our friends enjoyed their meals, the pie was a 'proper' pie with a full pastry surround and came with additional gravy. The service was fantastic. The staff were friendly, efficient and running around serving lots of tables but found time to check in and make sure we had drinks and that our food was all OK. We ordered desserts and were politely told there might be a bit of a wait as they were just serving a large party. Sure enough there was a wait but we were enjoying the atmosphere so wasn't a problem. The desserts were proper homemade puds. My creme brulee was delicious, hubby enjoyed his sticky toffee pudding which was nice and hot (something he usually moans about) and our friend enjoyed their crumble which had a proper crunchy top (not microwaved). All in all, a very enjoyable evening in a great atmosphere with good food, service and a reasonable price. We've had a few disappointing meals out where we've paid a lot more recently and I was beginning to lose faith in the hospitality sector.

Hotel stay , kettle didn't work , blood stains on duvet cover , cover was change but over duvet that had blood stains on it , any stay in hotel I expect minimum of clean bed and bathroom

I stayed one night and had dinner and breakfast. I was looking for somewhere comfortable to spend the night before moving into my new home… I enjoyed the steak I had for dinner but people kept following me around nervously and atone point I was stopped from leaving the open plan bar/ restaurant..l they seemed to think I was going to slip out without paying? ? Weird! Why would someone book a hotel with their credit card, have dinner and leave without paying for their dinner. I’ve stayed in numerous hotels etc all over England, Wales, USA & Italy in the past four years of travelling and I’ve never been treated like that before! I just thought it was weird…

What a fabulous pub. It was warm & welcoming. Food delicious and we felt very reasonably priced. Run by a Husband & wife team, both delightful and friendly. We were a party of 5 adults celebrating my husband's Birthday. When we were served our drinks, I mentioned it was a Birthday drink. At the end of our meal my hubby was presented with a delicious lemon cheesecake desert and a happy birthday candle. 2 x specials on the blackboard. Our Bill was under 90 pounds with drinks. Highly recommend and hope we might have the opportunity to return until we return to Aussie.

Lovely pub situated just off the main road. The staff were very friendly and the Sunday dinner was delightful. I had the pork which they were only too happy to serve a Yorkshire pud with on request and my partner had the beef which was equally as nice. All served with a mixed bowl of veg. The service was quick too. Would definitely recommend 😋

I visited this pub to meet up with friends, as there were staying there for a few nights, the staff were very polite and helpful. There was a few of us they took out orders and moved us to a quieter room for our food. Which was all freshly cook, I didn’t hear any complaints for the rest of the party, I shall pop back in when I am out on my motorbike or out with friends and I am in that area.

Called in for sunday lunch - greeted and seated promptly. Food was prepped and setved in a timely fashion, all good - waitress mid meal asked if all was ok( rarity these days) . Overall a great meal with excellent service - well done to all the staff - a welcome change to find somewhere that cared about happy customers through good service .

Stopped by chance on way back cross country for a quick lunch. Lovely welcome from lady behind the bar. Good range of drinks and a good menu, from lite bites, pub classics to more adventurous mains. Service times seemed spot and the barman again highly professional throughout! Just wish it was more local to us, but ig local to you ... try it!

Excellent reasonably priced meal and a good pint of Guinness. Dog friendly and a pleasant bar area. Plenty of room in the bar with comfortable seating to relax.

We had a lovely dinner this evening, good quality ingredients cooked very well. The goat's cheese and beetroot arancini were tasty and crisp, and curried parsnip soup was perfectly seasoned. Feathered steak was cooked exactly as specified, and the salmon was a good portion, again cooked perfectly. Staff were pleasant and attentive.

My friend and I called in for a quick lunch whilst driving through. I wish we'd kept driving. The service was great, however the menu was from the early 80's. We ordered the fish finger sandwich. Mr Birdseye would be turning in his grave. The pint of Coke had no flavour at all. But the service made up for this.

Popped in hoping to get some food during the August bank holiday weekend and glad we did. They were fully booked later but managed to fit us in and from then onwards they could not accommodate us better. Lovely polite staff,excellent freshly cooked food,and a pleasant atmosphere,it came over that their jobs meant so much to them!. We booked to stay here for one night whilst visiting the Brecon Beacons for a couple of days. We had booked a table for dinner but we were a bit late arriving at the pub, this was no problem. When we arrived we were greeted like old friends, nothing seemed too much. Staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful. We were shown to our rooms which were clean and very homely. We freshened up and went down to the pub for dinner which was absolutely gorgeous. All 4 of us had different meals and all 4 meals were perfectly cooked and a substantial size. We were impressed with drink choices and prices. The reason we chose The Kings Head was because it was dog friendly and she was allowed to stay in our room. We also had breakfast the next morning which was included in the price. We ate like kings, cereal, juices, tea and coffee, followed by a lovely , freshly cooked fried breakfast. Couldn't fault the place, would recommend to anyone visiting the Brecon Beacons. It may have been our first visit but it certainly won't be our last.

We stayed here with our two kids and two furry kids for just one night to break up a long journey. It was a lovely old fashioned place full of wonderful history. The food was amazing! My other half said the Texas chicken was the best chicken he'd ever eaten. Our dogs were allowed to eat with us which I found very special as they hate being left on their own. The staff were more than friendly. My eldest daughter said of our waitress.... That lady is so friendly and smiley! Our room was both clean and comfortable. There was very strange piano music playing tunes like Row, Row the Boat and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star until very late into the night but I'm sure this is not an ongoing occurrence. All in all we had a lovely stay and would like to say a big thank you to all the staff.

We called for lunch and were wanting to get somewhere afterwards. It took so long to get our food that my partner had to bolt down his food and go on his own, leaving me to finish my own meal. We were given free drinks as a result. There was hardly anyone else there, not sure what it would be like if the restaurant was busy.

A lovely country inn. Did not arrive with any expectations and left feeling we had experienced the best of the local area.Great pub grub, the bedrooms are a little tired but part of the charm. Shame we could hear the ventilation / kitchen ducts from our room all night but was not overbearing.Delighted to see a good number of vegan options on the menu too. Myself and my husband and my 7 year old daughter called in for lunch recently and we were all shocked and disappointed! The food was a let down we had roast pork and beef dinners the meat was dry and the gravy watery not much flavour to it and not very hot, but that wasn’t the worst part! On the table next to us was a small group having a meal and to our disbelief a small dog was also sat at the table dining well being fed off the owners plate and licking the plates etc servers were back and fore and no one said a word! Now we are big dog lovers but I wouldn’t share a dining table with one at home let alone in a restaurant/pub dining area!! Made us all feel a bit sick if I’m honest! On those reasons we won’t be returning!

We have just had a two day and night stay at the Kings Head and it was excellent. We had no problems taking our Golden Retriever Bertie and the staff are all very helpful and pleasant, nothing was to much trouble. The food both in the morning and evening was first class. Plenty to choose from on the menu well prepared and presented. Our room was clean and comfortable. We will return for another stay. Highly recommended.

We had Sunday lunch on the weekend of The Sheep Festival in Llandovery, 3 had the Roast Beef, and 1 had Roast Pork. The service was exceptional considering just how busy the Kings Head was, the food was faultless we all really enjoyed it, the meat was really tender and we had a good selection of vegetables, we also had desserts - chocolate roulade and raspberry cheesecake, again delicious. Considering we had booked lunch for 2pm the food was as fresh as if it had been the beginning of the lunch period. Really impressive to keep this standard for the number who must have eaten Sunday lunch there over a period of about 3+ hours. Well done.

Situated in the centre of Llandovery, beautiful old Hotel with private carpark at the rear. The room was well laid out and very clean, the bathroom was absolutely spotless.Full english breakfast accompanied with cereals/fruit juices etc. Evening meal, good varied menu, food was fabulous and great value for money. Finally, the staff really make this hotel a must for people staying in this part of Wales (Brecon Beacons), they were all very friendly and extremely helpful. Will definitely stay here again.

went out for last sitting of sunday lunch 2.30pm.there were four of us eating all just had a main course,one beef ,lamb,pork,turkey.meat served with mash a roast potato,parsnips and gravy. veg came in two bowls one for each couple,were told to ask if you required more veg.all meals were very nice indeed and meat was very lean on all plates.nice crowd eating,very pleasent.cost of main meal was £8.95,which we thougth was good value

Rocked up here on a Monday night for dinner for two. Lovely seating area in the modern take on medieval bar with low ceiling and comfy leather chairs. Quaffed our pre-prondials there and the maitre d’ instigated a tab after I enquired about food being available -which we gratefully accepted! This young (French?) lady is a wonderful asset to this hostelry. Discreet, charming,helpful, professional-these are qualities rare in such establishments. She made our night really,so thanks for that!

While staying locally we had lunch at the Kings Head. I had the chicken, onion and bacon wrap and can honestly say they were the best I have ever had. My husband had the chicken, bacon & mayonnaise baguettes and he was of the same opionion. The staff (owners?) were very friendly and attentive and served drinks to the table. Very impressed.

We were staying in Llandovery at the Riverside Pods and walked into town with our dog. We were so pleased when we found out this pub allowed dogs in the bar area. Wine was lovely, food was great too. Would go again.

just had the lunchtime special of pie, mash,peas and gravy. lovely steak and ale pie, creamy mash. mushy peas with onion gravy, all delicious and cooked perfectly. we didn't try the deserts as the main meal portion size was good. will be going again.

I was treated to a lovely “Sunday day lunch” !!! out , as my son and girlfriend having been numerous times , and have loved the food , it’s appears since arriving they have changed ownership recently. Ordered a nut Roast ( curtesy of Castell Howell ) with stir fry vegetables which I said I would prefer with the traditional vegetables and vegetable gravy .the 2 roast beef and Yorkshire puddings meals arrived, home made Yorkshire( tough ) , and then the veg arrived , I say that as you could actually count each piece , 3 sprouts , small sprig of broccoli each , 2 small sprigs of cauliflower , one small dish for 3 . We did go back up to the bar and and ask for more and a even smaller dish arrived for us , no apologies and no one asking if we wanted any gravy, only the potion than was served with the meal on the plate.

Lovely wooden panelled restaurant serving fresh local food at very reasonable prices. They offer a good wine list and a good selection of beers. A very cosy place to be to escape the rain, watch the rugby or just for a drink

We called in for a coffee and a bite to eat but discovered we had called after the kitchen had closed. However, they were most obliging and served us a toasted sandwich and chips with our coffees within just a few minutes.

Came here for romantic meal with my partner. New menu looked great and ordered crayfish starter. Came out as shrimp on balini toast with sauce. Mentioned it to waitess and nothing was done. Dont label high end produce like crayfish and serve me cheap shrimp

We have been several times for lunch. Each time with different company/guests. Common thread is always; lovely olde building, super friendly staff, GREAT food and plenty of choice, (don't eat something, OK to change) the best gravy on your roast dinner outside of your own kitchen! A comprehensively well stocked bar. Draught beers at just the right temperature. Most times people have their (well behaved) dogs with them. Oh, and of course their children, though mostly adults, thank goodness.All in all well worth the 40 minute drive.
