Fox & Hounds in Carmarthenshire

Steak night. Cooked to medium rare perfection. Personally I would've liked more seasoning but the Surf'n'turf stole the whole show. Back-end rooms have an abysmal view but a non-issue for me.

Fabulous country pub, good parking, easy access, great pub grub, great service, great atmosphere.

After a lovely lunch stop a few weeks ago, we booked for lunch Saturday and dinner on Sunday. We were so disappointed with our food, we cancelled our Sunday booking. Again we had pie of the day, chicken, ham and leak pie, my husband couldn’t eat the ham as it was tough. I had the burger of the day. Katsu chicken. The bun wasn’t toasted, the lettuce and slaw wet and chilled the Katsu chicken was over cooked and the pot of chips were mostly end bits.

Visited twice. Fisrst steak pie and homemade chips, which was amazing. We also had a sharing board Sunday lunch. Absolutely delicious and more than we could manage. The staff are so lovely and friendly. Portions large,hot,freshly cooked just lovely 😍 Would definitely recommend!!

Been here several times before for Sunday dinner and have the platter every time and love it! However we came a few weeks ago and food was still very tasty but they have reduced the meat portion size which is very disappointing. Only one thin slice of the three meats between the two of us and half a sausage. Really disappointed especially with the price you pay

Honestly, hands down, the best Sunday lunch in the Carmarthenshire area. Will be running back! The sharing platter for 2 was amazing! Food tasted better than home cooked ❤️

Fantastic lady behind the bar. Very very pleasant, friendly and knowledgable and attentive! She said she’s only worked here 6 months or so (I think), but she’s already made the experience. Menu is fantastic! Love this place

Our usual place to eat on way to Tenby was closed, so had a quick search and The Fox and Hounds matched what we were looking for so booked a table. Easy to find, well signposted off the main road. Parking available on the road outside or there is a large car park. Greeted by a young lad and shown to our table. He told us about the specials on offer and took our order for drinks. We only had coffee and water. My husband ordered the pie of the day, lamb and mint with a choice of chips or mash. I ordered the special burger. Food arrived, well presented, hot and really tasty. Would definitely recommend and will visit again when next going to Tenby. Young lad was friendly, polite and made sure we had everything we needed. No room for dessert, but menu was good.

Stopped on the way to our accommodation, was one of the nicest steaks I’ve ever had. My husbands salt and pepper chicken loaded fries tasted like a Chinese. My son enjoyed his pizza and even said he’ll order a steak next time! Staff was so friendly. Definitely call in again.

Oh my word what a fantastic Sunday dining experience. They do this “sharing board” for Sunday Dinner; three meats (beef, turkey and pork) all generous and succulent, stuffing, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, peas and sprouts, carrots and swede, SAUSAGES (!!!), Yorkshire Puddings, creamed leaks, mashed potato and best of all, lovely big parsnips (superb). All fantastic, generous portions that fed two hungry adults and an infant. The service was even better than the food. Warm, friendly and welcoming despite it being the Sunday before Christmas. Attentive and helpful without being over-bearing. Accommodated all dining preferences. Can’t wait to return. Bar menu looks fantastic. Reasonably priced too.

We stumbled across this pub after turning off the main road in search of a pit stop on a longer journey. Glad we did! We enjoyed a tasty lunch with friendly service at a very reasonable price.

If you haven’t had a Sunday Dinner here get down immediately!!! Best dinner I’ve ever had. Vegan and veggie option and it was delicious. Staff were so friendly and lovely. I've eaten at the Fox on numerous occasions and the food has always been top notch. I'm a regular visitor there and can't speak highly enough of it.

Popped in for lunch after attending a wedding fair and OMG it was THE BEST dinner I have ever had!!! Vegan and vegetarian option available too and service was top notch. I’ll definitely be returning time and time again and will be bringing everyone I know 😂 definitely worth the trip from Llanelli for such a tasty dinner and lovely staff!

A brilliant place to stay and eat

The owners and staff were fantastic. They accommodated my every need and were flexible with check in/check out, and were so understanding, helpful and friendly.

Eventually got to go to the Fox and Hounds to use a voucher I received from my daughter for Father's day , called in to have lunch after being shopping started of with a lovely pint of Worthington Bitter , decided to have the BBQ chicken stack with a side of Bacon and cheese dirty fries off the menu which had some lovely dishes on it Food came to the table which was well presented , gorgeous I think were home cooked chips , delicious coleslaw and the BBQ chicken stack was in a enamel dish which kept it nice and hot , absolutely faultless plate of food lots of BBQ sauce on the chicken and loads of cheese aswel .The dirty fries were to die for aswel, once again in an enamel bowl with tasty bacon pieces , spring onion and lashings and lashings of melted cheese throughout the dish absolutely amazing bit of food , the rest of my family all loved thier chosen dishes off the menu aswel . No room for pudding after it but the biggest surprise came when I went to pay for a table our table of 5 , ok 1 was my 10 year old grandson but for the amount of food we had together with the quality of it , I only had to pay £70 odd pound for it after my £20 voucher was taken off which I thought was excellent value for money and will definitely be calling again for food

Great lunch and friendly service

Wonderfully place to stay. Newly renovated to a high standard, immaculately clean and really powerfull shower also disabled friendly. Breakfast was delicious with cereals, cooked breakfast, fresh coffee, tea and fruit juices. Really friendly and helpful staff. Will deffinagely stay again.

Good vegan vrap and options on the menu. Burger was a unique take on a chicken and bacon burger but very tasty. Nice chips!

We didn’t arrive until after 8 but upon arrival the young lady who showed us to our room was so helpful and polite. We had a quick drink in the bar where there was a good crowd in and live music but once back up in the room you couldn’t hear a thing. The room was lovely and clean and the shower was so good. Breakfast was 5*….there was fruit juices available plus tea and coffee. A choice of cereals also a good selection of hot breakfasts, we went for the full Welsh breakfast and it was all good fresh and tasted so good. We’ll definitely look to return in the future. My partner & I arrived at the restaurant for dinner that we had booked earlier that day. When we arrived, we waited at the bar for quite a long time before a member of staff was available. I explained that we were a few minutes late but had booked a table. The member of staff said that they had experienced an electric fault (30 minutes prior to our arrival) causing the food to be delayed and basically said that we can’t dine there tonight. I asked why didn’t they call to inform us of this before we travelled. The lady shrugged and apologised but offered nothing! We felt very let down. I’m also visibly heavily pregnant! A waste of fuel, & let down service!! 0 consideration or forward thinking from the staff member. Won’t be returning.

Just had food here, been here lots of times, did a round trip of 120 miles to have Sunday lunch here, that says it all

Food was good on Sunday the 11th of August but the wait for said food was not after ordering my partner and I waited over an hour for food. I ordered the 28 pound steak which I ordered medium and it was pretty tough and not really worth the 28 pounds - however the dirty fries and the halloumi fries were utterly divine. It was these few hiccups of tbe time taken and the quality of the steak that ruined the experience for me and my partner I would however go again

Really good freshly made food, lovely interior decor. Only a minute or so from the main road, and *so* much nicer than services etc.

This was an unexpected delight! We just happened to turn off the main road to find somewhere for lunch and our meal was delicious. We had teriyaki noodles with steak. Amazing. So glad we stopped here.

Food superb, staff were great - Perfect after getting drenched on the golf course up the road that morning!

Only had a meal but very disappointed, thrown together and undercooked.

What a great place. The rooms are spotless and the beds very comfortable. We ate dinner in the restaurant and it was superb. Full Welsh breakfast is sure to keep anyone going all day and all the staff were really friendly. A great experience.

Excellent food, service is great. Had several different meals here and has always been tasty and reasonable priced. They do a steak offer on Thursday nights.

Have eaten here many times and always get a good welcome,the food is hot,well cooked and where possible local ingredients. the staff are hard working and always got time to have a chat,there is a nice ambiance about the pub, and it is what it is, a good village pub with good food and service,try it,and I am sure you will be happy about the place.

Lovely food and great service. Staff were helpful and friendly from the start. Food and drinks arrived quickly considering how busy it was. Food was delicious.

The Sunday lunch sharing boards were huge and delicious. Way too much food for us but we managed well as there was a great range of veggies and it was hard not to dip back in. The menu is simple and really easy to choose from on a Sunday and despite being stuffed none of us could bear to refuse the puds too. Loved the fact that all puds come with a choice of custard cream or ice-cream. All staff were really friendly and really liked sitting at a round table. Much more sociable.

I stay at this place every other week with work. Great staff rooms are so clean and tidy all new fittings. Food so good as well .it's a thumbs 👍 up from me

Not many places will do homemade fries, even less for kids, that says a lot about this place. The food was amazing and in generous quantities, one of the best Sunday roast I had in the U.K. Hats off the chef.

We booked for Easter Sunday a couple of weeks prior on-line which was very easy. We came whilst on holiday to the local area. As soon as we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome which was lovely. We all ordered the roast beef. My goodness, beautiful meal! Seasonal veg included sweede/carrot, carrots, Peas and to my delight, leeks in cheese! All topped off with a Yorkshire. Puddings arrived, with 1 of us having creme egg cheesecake, and 2 of us ordering the hot cross bun and butter pudding! It was amazing! I would definitely come back, if we come back to the area. Thank you to all.

The food on offer here, it’s nothing but your bog, standard pub grub, it’s almost like they’re trying to be something they’re not. The staff were quite rude when we ate and the server wasn’t polite. The real reason I’m writing this review is due to how disgusting whoever is in charge of the staff rotor is a close personal friend of mine worked here three years ago, they never gave her any shifts when the weekly rotor was updated and she was only told the night before. After weeks of asking for shifts, as promised, she was eventually ignored completely. They didn’t contact her in regards to her, not working anymore. The kitchen was an absolute nightmare as I’m sure that we could hear children running around. I wouldn’t eat there again if you paid me a place run by complete and utter fools.

We were recommended to have a meal here and we were not disappointed. Friendly, attentive staff, snugly wood burner and the most excellent meal.

We dined here for Mothers day. There were 5 of us. We all thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch, there was plenty of everything & it tasted superb. Lots of gravy too. Nice selection of desserts which were beautiful. Staff were lovely & really happy to help. We are looking forward to our next Sunday lunch there.

I was recommended to have Sunday lunch here recently, so went for Mother’s Day lunch. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place had been refurbished since my last visit. To be honest I was a bit disappointed, it was average at best. The meat was very thinly sliced and a bit dry along with the trimmings. The veg was served in dishes and only just warm enough. The menu had extras such as Yorkshire pudding at £3 and also had cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes as extra options. I did come away feeling deflated, I appreciate it was Mother’s Day and it was busy but there are better places to go locally.

Stay at this hotel very regular for work commitments, amazing staff, brilliant food and rooms are unbelievable!

Wow, what an incredible find. We were in the area yesterday for my Fiancé’s birthday. We knew in advance that we would be looking for ‘pub grub’ and decided to take the drive out to The Fox & Hounds based on good reviews. We were greeted immediately upon entering and sat next to a warm log burner which was welcome given the weather outside. We both had starters, the pork belly bao buns were incredibly good and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the salt and pepper chicken tenders. My partner opted for the fish and chips which she described as near perfect, her only ‘complaint’ was regarding the mushy peas which she described as ‘minty’. I had the house special burger which was southern fried chicken, hash brown, cheese and gravy. Without doubt, one of the best burgers I have ever eaten, absolutely delicious. The chips on both mains were very good and the side of cheesy garlic bread is the best that we have encountered, with a hint of either smoked cheddar or truffle infused cheddar( I think). We both couldn’t leave without desert, opting for the cheesecake of the day and a brookie, both were an excellent way to end a splendid meal. If you’re ever in the area visiting the national botanic gardens, take the drive to get lunch/dinner here. The icing on the cake is that it is an independent pub!

We took a relative down memory lane on his 80th birthday. We went into the Fox and Hound and although an obvious update the old style was still present. A warm welcome was given with a lovely warm atmosphere. Small but warm, friendly pub with great ales.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Can not fault anything! I ate here for the first time today as family member was in hospital nearby. My father and I ordered the shared dinner platter. There was plenty of meat, mash stuffing, roast potatoes, and big Yorkshire puddings. This was accompanied by fresh veg, creamed leeks, cauliflower cheese and a jug of steaming gravy. All was delicious cooked to perfection. So much veg left, I took a takeaway dish away, which was polished off by my husband this evening. We will definitely be back. Sadly, we were too full for the gorgeous looking desserts! Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

Super friendly village pub, we stayed in their car park motorhome stopover. Ate in the bar, lovely food cooked by Charlie, washed down with a couple of bottles of wine. Finished up playing darts with the chef Charlie. Locals made us more than welcome. Would love to return some day. Thank you Fox & Hounds. Charlie & Liz the Leeds utd fans. Xx

This was our second year we have had our Christmas party at the fox & hounds. Great service and great quality food.

We make a point of popping in for a meal whenever we are staying locally. The food is locally sourced and all freshly prepared and cooked to perfection! Thursday is Steak night and the steak carved like butter. The panko onion "loaf" was a really quirky twist. A MUST place to go but definitely suggest you book as it's popular.

What an amazing place! Service is outstanding and so is the food! Don’t be fooled by its plain exterior it’s absolutely worth a visit and dog friendly in the bar too! This was our second trip whilst on holiday after falling upon it earlier in the holiday The loaded fries and the waffle stack are the best we have ever had!

Called in for lunch. 6 of us had no idea what to expect. Very friendly staff and the food was fantastic. Very large portions, very tasty and well presented. Pulled pork dirty fries was delicious. There was so much there that regretfully I had to leave half. Can certainly recommend it and we will return.

Driving along a dual carriageway and saw a sign for this pub, from the outside it doesn’t look anything special but it’s amazing. The staff were so friendly, the Guinness was awesome but the food…. The food was outstanding. We were unsure what to have and decided on a light bites of dirty fries (I had steak and my wife had pulled pork). They are NOT light bites. The pulled pork defeated my wife and the steak with peppercorn sauce was the best I’ve had. I recommend the dirty fries to anyone, I can only imagine the rest of the menu is as good. Wow!!!

Came to Carmarthenshire for my wife’s birthday weekend and booked to eat here for a quick meal before the rugby World Cup final. Allowed to bring the dog providing we would sit in the bar. Absolutely fine by us. Food was lovely. House burger for me and the lad. Lasagne for the wife and sausage and chips for the little one. All delicious!! Not a chip left. Lovely log burner right by us to fight off the cold and the rain of outside. Lovely little find - will be back when we venture down this way again.

Was recommended this place for their steak night in a Thursday and definitely weren’t disappointed. The steak melted in your mouth. The beef dripping sauce was a revelation and the onion loaf was like nothing we’d tasted before. All in all the best meal we’d had all week.

A nice public house situated in Bancyfelin in what appears to have been a former cowshed. A good selection of beers on draught and a composite menu offering ample sized portions, even for children. Bonus as this is also a Welsh speaking pub.

We had dinner here two nights in a row, and hugely enjoyed both. The food is delicious, and the menu caters well for gluten free needs, both mains and desserts. It can take a while for the food, especially during peak times, but the food was worth the wait.
