Popped for lunch, made sure we booked a table. Friendly welcome, nice atmosphere. Food was fantastic. I had Fish and chips. I can honestly say I haven't had such a huge, tasty peice of cod in a very long time. My mom had a small portion of fish and chips and said how delicious it was. I can certainly recommend this pub for grub. Will definately be returning when we're next in Launceston in the Summer.

We had been to see the church pews at Alternun on a wet April morning, and I didn't honestly expect this pub to be doing bar lunches in such a quiet spot as Five Lanes so was pleasantly surprised when the landlady? told me they did, and welcomed dogs as well. Pleasant bar with fire going and friendly atmosphere. I must admit this was one of the nicest pub meals I have had for a long time, not the usual but home cooking style and plenty of it. My only complaint was that they gave you too much so I couldn't manage the sweet! The rest of the family felt the same and Bella the dog enjoyed her free biscuits! All very reasonably priced as well and it brightened up a rather dull and showery April Fools day. Thanks very much. Iain Sainsbury, LOOE, Cornwall. 1.4.2023

Not the best presented pub/ restaurant; very dated and also unkept. The girls serving were all pleasant but harried (the pub is very understaffed - only one waitress for a Saturday evening). The food was fine, large portions, but no table service for drinks (you have to wait & order at the bar, not great when you’re eating). We would’ve had dessert but the sole waitress was so busy, and after waiting 15 mins just for our table to be cleared we decided to leave. I guess the key rating is - would we go back? The answer, a definite no.

Called in at the Kings Head for dinner after work. As usual the staff were friendly and the service first rate. After perusing the extensive menu and the specials board I settled on home made cottage pie with homemade trifle for dessert, both of which were superb - proper home cooking, and lots of it! Definately one of the best food pubs in the area, and comes highly recommended if you want good food and service at a sensible price in a proper olde-worlde pub setting.

Living only a couple of miles away I should really visit for Sunday carvery more often than I do. Selection of four meats on offer of which you can have two. Good selection of veg to choose from, excellent roast potatoes! A welcoming country pub. Only down side, we were seated in the "carvery room" on a table that ran alongside the hotplate counter. This meant that while everyone was queuing for their lunch was had to shuffle through them to get back to our table. Once we'd made it back with our vast plates others in the line then proceeded to lean against or prop themselves up the backs of our chairs which was both uncomfortable and irritating. Granted not the fault of the pub but individuals (although they could move the table). Will certainly book much further in advanced next time and request a table in the bar instead.

We were taken here by friends while visiting in the area. My own meal and that of my wife was first class, and it appeared that my companions also enjoyed their food (it was them that took us there anyway, so we assume they like it well enough). The young waitress was attentive and personable, and the barman provided me with a sample taste of an amber ale or two so that I could determine which suited my "foreign" palate. This was not fine dining, but a perfectly satisfying night out in good company and a nice atmosphere in which to enjoy the moment.

Arriving at noon, the pub looked a bit run down but inside we were warmly met by the landlord who showed us our table and took our drink order at the bar.We were advised to go straight through to the back room where the carvery awaited us. Wow! Choice of five meats and so many veg.We asked for a small plate each and we're asked which two meats we wanted. We chose beef & lamb and beef & turkey. Then to fill what was left of the plate!Everything was piping hot and freshly prepared. The meat was tender and fat free and the vegetables done the proper Cornish way so you could cut them and eat them without breaking your teeth. The best part was yet to come....the bill was £15 including soft drinks! Make sure you book as the second sitting which I think is around 13.00 gets filled quickly.

Went here for a meal for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The pub was recommended to us by Barbara from Copper Meadow B & B who mentioned 2 or 3 local places but we could not have chosen better. The food was excellent with very generous portions. Desserts also delicious (too nice to miss despite size of main meal!) Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant despite being very quiet the night we went. The staff were attentive and we could find no fault with anything and to top it all food was reasonably priced. Thank you to landlord for finding the missing cherry brandy x

I recently took a hot air balloon trip that began from the carpark of The Kings Head in Five Lanes. At the time and being on a tight flight schedule I didn’t have the chance to try out the facilities of this hostelry so when in this locality again I took the opportunity to have lunch with my wife on a wet and blustery autumn day.We initially went into the well-stocked public bar where we were greeted by Polly who after providing us with drinks suggested that if we were dining perhaps we would like a table in their adjoining restaurant. On entering the comfortable ambience of the restaurant we were drawn towards a table near the hearth of a blazing log fire. After being seated Polly mentioned that the premises were open all day and pointed out, as well as the standard lunch menu, the Specials of the day boards which described a great variety of alternatives.Looking at dishes being served to other diners I noticed that portion sizes were very generous. My request for a medium rare T- bone (without the usual accompaniments described on the menu) and a wish for few straw fries and green salad surpassed all my expectations. The wife’s fish pie proved to be exemplary despite again being a very generous plateful. Our waitress mentioned that Chef often prepared most dishes, accordingly priced, as smaller portions if requested. The strawberry Pavlova that I selected for dessert, again proved to be too large for my appetite, but was eagerly demolished by my wife who had initially stated that she “couldn’t possibly have room for a pudding”As with many establishments nowadays the provenance of ingredients used in the kitchens was deemed (by our waitress) to be sourced from within the county and mostly from a short distance of the premises.I cannot fault the combination of hospitality, high quality cooking, and general ambience of this rural establishment and would not hesitate to recommend it to fellow travellers.

My Hubby said you couldn't get better ham, egg and chips then Route 38, the one we had Friday night blew that away. Absolutely super. Staff, food, room and atmosphere brilliant. Rooms have been refurbished and have ensuite showers, really comfy beds and tea/coffee facilities. Room 1 is a great twin and décor is super. Breakfast is plentiful and really well cooked, Full English cooked to your preference and just whatever you want. Little extras, like dressing robes and hot chocolate really make your stay special. Web site is being updated but do not be put off by the present contents. Hate to give such a good review as others may book when we want to go but was an absolute Gem. Plenty of parking very near to super countryside, Bodmin Moor, Boscastle and Tintagel

We were recommended this pub by a neighbour, so while staying nearby at Netherbridge farm we booked for the evening with our two whippets, as we did mention that we had dogs on booking. Ample parking, and easy to find. Entered through the bar entrance, and made ourselves know to the lady at the bar and showed us our table. She was very helpful and suggest that the particular table she seated us at in the restaurant , would be better seeing as we had the dogs. Later, to our surprise we were told, very politely that dogs weren't allowed in here, but when I said we had booked with dogs, Dan said that there was a mix up and could we move into the bar. The bar was just the job however, a few locals in there, which were very friendly and a good laugh. The food was worth waiting for (albeit not a long wait at all), starter of garlic mushrooms and bread. Main of home made beef burger and chips with a side salad, the wife had cheese salad. Apart from the tiny mishap at the start, which was dealt with very well by Dan, who may I say is a credit to the Pub. A pub we will revisit, and which we will certainly recommend to others.

Found this delightful upstairs cafe by chance and had some of the best vegetarian food for a long time. We were made very welcome and chose the hummus bowl and roasted veg toasted sandwich. Both were excellent and very filling.

the only place open on a Sunday on St Martins! So glad it was open, it was absolutely heaving but we got there in time to get seats and what was left of the cakes and drinks.

I've only ever called in for a beer but no complaints so far and staff are nice too. There's a big beer garden which is very useful for the kids and dogs.
