Due to stay here after a gig in the castle on the 17th of August. The day before, had a message to say that our room we were due to stay in had been flooded, and no other rooms were available. This had been booked since January, so why it was specifically “our”designated room I have no idea. Multiple attempts at contacting them by phone have failed. No other hotel rooms available in Chepstow at such short notice, and has resulted in us having to book a hotel out of the area and booking taxis there and back, so a lot of extra expense. Highly suspicious and extremely poor customer service. Think twice before booking here folks

We stayed for a night away from the kids and was warmly welcomed by Jon. He showed us our room with separate bathroom and private entrance. Room was lovely, recently refurbished and comfortable. We were looking forward to a relaxing stay. We popped out for food and a few drinks and returned to run a lovely bath. We had our bedroom door open as the bathroom was next door (not shared). All of a sudden I could hear someone else and it was an older lady who I presumed was Jon’s mother. No introduction or apology but was working from an office opposite our room which was very close and in our ‘private’ space. She kept the office door open whilst she was in and out. I entered the bathroom to my shocked partner laying in the bath to warn him not to come out in just a towel and closed all our doors. We spent the evening downstairs in the pub, enjoying the local darts and a few games of pool. Not the cheapest of prices on the alcohol for common selections. The sleep was awful, there’s a blue led light that lights up the room every time you move. It’s a sensor light like an alarm but you can’t do anything about it. The noise from the pub below is expected as is the general city centre traffic and refuse collections but the older lady decided to return through the night to bring in the laundry!! I’m not sure why this wasn’t done before we arrived or waited until after we checked out? The morning came and I heard the lady again and a television. I opened the room door to use the bathroom and there she was, working in the office with the door wide open watching tv at 7.30am. I tried to ignore it but by 8.15am, we were up and dressed before even making a cuppa as she clearly wanted us out. I asked to speak to Jon but he was unavailable (clearly enjoying a quiet sleep I assume). I gave my feedback to the lady who could only say that I could go back into the room, she would turn the tv off and go downstairs. I declined as we were packed and ready to leave. The room was about 30% cheaper than the average room at £55 but this does not warrant the Bates Motel experience that we got. The response online from Jon was “You can’t please everybody but for £55 it’s a bargain”. Sorry Jon but I disagree and with comments like that, you will lose customers quite quickly rather than taking my feedback on board. Your mother should not use that area during times that guests check in (3pm) until 10am the next morning.

Food very mediocre but cheaply priced so I guess that's ok. Would not return again as there are better places to eat in Chepstow. Also the staff are pretty slack and only seem to attend to their regulars.

First visit for ages, known for years as a scruffy, noisy town pub, The Kings Head has cleaned up its act a lot. We visited on New Years Day for the £7.99 sunday lunch. The food was really good, vegetables not boiled to death, excellent beef and lots of good real gravy. Both the real ales were very drinkable, quite different in taste and strength and locally brewed by Castlesales. Good free wi-fi. Music was quite good but a bit loud. Just need to update the furniture and decor a bit

This is a lovely warm welcoming little pub, but after seeing 3 managers come and go, Dan is doing a fantastic job of pulling it back together again providing an excellent service with a nice range of ales and ciders in a really friendly relaxed atmoshpere. Although my local, today is the 1st time Ive had food there, 3 roast beef dinners nice and quick and was absolutely devine! More than enough to go around (and my son eats ALOT!) so compliments to the chef and highly recommend eating here. Will definately be trying the mid week menu....

We had not been to the Kings Head for quite a few years and was surprised to see how clean it was, no sticky floors and a great lively atmosphere. Looks like there is good food now being served, the barman had great knowledge of the area and helped us massively in finding things to do during our short stay, can't remember the mans name but thank you so much! There is lots of locally brewed real ales which my hubby enjoyed, we are back in a few weeks so will be in to try the food offerings. Others were eating during lunchtime and the food looked fantastic! The Disco bar was great fun with a mixture of ages, see you very soon!

We popped in on Saturday night having eaten at Mythos next door. We saw it had been renovated and decided to give it a try. The outside looks good but inside is dire. 1970's type tables and chairs, harsh bright lighting. There wasn't many people in and we can clearly see why. The "Grunge" Music was so loud you couldn't talk and by the clientele in there I think the music was the barman's choice. The barman took our order with a mouthful of food spilling everywhere. We had one drink and left. Upon leaving we said to the barman about how the music was putting people off and he said he didn't care. This place needs, toned down lighting, sofa's, modern furniture and music more suited to pub of this type. I could understand the Grunge music if the pub had been packed, but clearly it is not targeting a market of this type. We left and went back next door to Mythos. Please take note of your customers needs! We will not be returning.

Stumbled upon this pub by accident (and because kids were starving!!!). First impressions were that it was very basic. Unfortunately, a big group had arrived just before us so we had to wait about an hour for our food. However, when it arrived it was great. Very tasty. I ordered chilli con carne and it was just spicy enough and the serving quantity was spot on. I would go back if ever I'm in Chepstow again

Roast dinner was still on the menu, amazing roast potatoes, lots of veg, really nice yorkshires and, if you read other reviews, Mo's amazing gravy, which is amazing and worth the visit alone! I swore never to set foot in this pub a few years ago as the pub was always full of young, drunken idiots. The new management, however, are clearly trying to attract a different cliental and I really hope they succeed as they deserve it. I went for a meal and drinks with friends. The food was good and the bar maid was lovely. The bar is now clean and tidy and I really hope it continues to stay like this. Please do not be put off by it's past history as they really are trying to give the bar a new lease of life and it is in such a prime location in Chepstow, close to all the local amenities. Absolutely terrible place, the beer is off and the toilets look like they had been bombed, the whole pace has an apocalyptic vibe with the beer garden full of half finished drinks littered round that look like they have been there for years.Lot's of shady characters drink in here and I have personally seen dr*g deals and people desperate for dr*gs allowing dealers to take their girlfriends and wives around the adjoining alleyway for physical payment via hairy cheque.
