The Kings Arms Restaurant in Christchurch

Had a fabulous meal at this lovely restaurant. It is such a friendly, busy and vibrant restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was fresh and very tasty. Service was really quick and smooth allowing us to enjoy each course with no rush. Great choice of drinks and we definitely would recommend and will be returning very soon.

So disappointed with our visit.No atmosphere and barely any Xmas decs. Service was slow and no one bothered to ask food was ok. No attempt at presentation just 2 prawns in a bowl for £4! I had fish and chips which had no flavour with what looked like warm oven chips and some dry peas crushed with a fork.Not sure if they were meant to be mushy?Again no flavour whatsoever! Hope this is useful to them.

The food was quite average really, fish pie was all salmon and chicken parfait not served with enough bread. Service was very good. First time I’ve come across only small or large wines, no medium.

Love the Kings Restaurant, very restful, and quiet. The meal was excellent, well presented and the waitress was so helpful and pleasant.

We had our wedding here in October 2024 and the service was incredible, the food was superb everyone complimented the food and the service. The support throughout the planning was top tier and the support of the day was perfect. Dean and his team went above and beyond on the day and Chamane and Sophie organised the months leading up, helping to ease the stress. Would 100% recommend getting married here! Perfect location. Breakfast the next morning was gorgeous; so many options to choose from! The honeymoon suite was spacious and Comfy. My mums room was small on level 3 and she hit her head multiple times on the ceiling. My mum wish she had asked to change rooms.

A great locations and a nice looking restaurant and bar but it fails to deliver. Ages waiting to be served a cocktail was followed by a quite average meal. Very expensive Tempura Prawns were more like average size prawns in batter. The sort you'd buy in a bag from a supermarket frozen aisle. The Steak Frites was an average small chewy rump steak - need a lesson from Cote to see the sort of steak this should be (wide and thin). The white wine was ok, the standard red almost undrinkable. Service was pleasant but there is no reason to return.

Lovely food and pleasant atmosphere. Nice area to sit and chat beforehand. Staff very attentive. Would always recommend.

Excellent food,service . We enjoyed a long leisurely lunch at the Kings with friends. The selection of food was superb, from the 20 mile radius menu to al a carte. Great choices especially fish. We had bream, skate wing and whole place. Tasty desserts too. Good wine and recommendations from our lovely servers. We will definitely return.

We were greeted by Jan, wonderful warm welcome. Service throughout excellent.our waiting staff lovely. Food delicious. Lovely to see Jan so knowledgeable, and happy to discuss food and give suggestions. We will definitely come here again.

Our meals were very good, nothing was too much trouble despite being busy they even filleted the plaice that one of our party ordered. When we ordered drinks they came to the table with no delay.

Fabulous hotel, which is so convenient for the high street. Access to Mudeford and Hengistbury is an easy flat walk (min. 45 mins). Food and service is exceptional and the room we had was fabulous (103). The food is particularly good value and the wines too notch. We’ll be back soon! Christchurch is wonderful too.

Attended Fawlty Towers Experience tonight. The enactors were fabulous, very entertaining, but the venue, service and food left a lot to be desired, very poor bar service and selection of wines. We would not attend another event at this location.

Having experienced other Harbour Hotel owned venues over the years , we were surprised and disappointed by the poor standard service and below average food provided at Kings Hotel Christchurch on the evening of Thursday Aug 15th .

We had excellent service, from sitting down to our departure. Charlotte gave us menus & immediately fetched water,then our wine arrived in minutes, also ice we had ordered!! She noted my chilli intolerance & advised accordingly. We had food from the special lunch menu , quinoa starter ( good ) followed by pork loin chop with great sauce & mash & greens,( plenty of flavour so twice we commended the chef )best meal we’ve had in weeks! This was good food, not a tweezer in site!! We also had top up ice etc from Tanesha , again excellent service. I purposefully took names as we truthfully enjoyed our whole time & felt both ladies were good ambassadors for The Kings Arms. We had great lunch with very tasty food & we look forward to our next visit! Well done

Saw the "A" board outside the pub with lunchtime offers, looked worth a try. Disinterested, playing on computer for at least two minutes before looking up, receptionist/waitress showed us to a table and then abandoned us! Waited 15 minutes no menu! Asked for a menu, she looked very vague and stated they were expecting a wedding and did not know if they were doing lunch! Nobody behind the bar, enough was enough, so walked out.

Had a nice dinner with a friend, impressed with the level of service received. Restaurant has a good vibe and we will be back

Attended a wedding and reception here. Stayed two nights and on the second night we had two extra fold up beds in our room for two young grandchildren (5 & 7 yrs) to join us. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive both in respect of the wedding arrangements and the hotel service. The food was excellent throughout. I would have rated them five stars if there had been a more reasonable charge for small children at breakfast. The children were well looked after and made to feel special but in truth they eat like sparrows and that should be reflected in a sliding scale according to age. A minor point I know but I found it annoying. The rooms and wedding venue were brilliant. A lovely Pavilion for the cerimony, a private two storey building for the wedding breakfast and dancing/disco. In the centre of Christchurch with wonderful walks and scenery and history all around.

We has a suprise 80th birthday lunch for 16 adults on Saturday. Thank you to Chamane, Lauren and the team for all your efforts to make our Dad's day so memorable. The food was really good, everyone in the group said the same. We will definitely be back soon and can't recommend The King's Arms enough, especially how accomodating and efficient they where for a large group.

This is an amazing place to stay the staff are first class the rooms are beautiful and the service is the best I've ever received will certainly go back there

Met friends for early evening drinks.

Took a friend for lunch for her birthday. We ordered off the specials menu. My friend had pork and I had fillet of bream. Although the portions were not large they were sufficient, well cooked and extremely tasty. My friend had the cheese board and I had sticky toffee pudding. The service from the young waitress and who I think was the restaurant manager was very friendly and efficient. To finish the waitress bought out a plate decorated with the words “Happy Birthday” in chocolate with two macaroons. This was a lovely touch which my friend thought I had organised but it was a spontaneous gesture from the restaurant which was very much appreciated. We will come again,

This hotel was both beautiful and the mostly lovely vibe and feel to it . The rooms were stunning and warm and the hotel had the most beautiful decor . The staff were incredible , with outstanding attitude and nothing was to much trouble for any of us (22 of us in total) We were celebrating our Grandads 90th . Had a free drinks in here on Friday night. Place was busy and all cocktails were on point. Good quality drinks and I think we got one on happy hour price. Will be back soon.

Disappointed with the roast. food served just warm on cold plates, Bland flavour tough meat & reheated soggy potatoes. Small portions & over priced. Service very slow & understaffed When the waiter gave us the bill he said he hadn’t charged for the starters as a gesture of good will. The starters are part of the set menu. Overall poor experience so we would not recommend to family and friends.

Everything we tried was awesome, especially the starters and desserts taste amazing and are highly recommended. The ambience is breathtaking! Nice and cozy place to be with friends and family. Would definitely prefer visiting again in the future.

Came in for cocktails on Saturday and was greeted by Scott! He was great. recommended some nice drinks for us to try and even though it was busy he kept me topped up. Popcorn bar snack was an added bonus. We'll be back next time we are in Christchurch.

We were a bit disappointed about the lack of atmosphere for Christmas Day lunch. We pre ordered our food and it would have been helpful to have maybe had a copy on the table, as I had to search my emails to double check whilst the poor lady stood with 3 plates of food not knowing where to put them. I had the beef wellington which was very nice but the roast turkey didn’t look great. I think some of it was the yellow plates! Made it all look a bit anaemic. All of our crackers had the same joke in them. They could have spent a little more on them. The staff were all very helpful and I appreciate the fact that they were all working on Christmas Day to cook and serve for their diners, and I am grateful for not having to cook for one day!

Myself and a group of 24 friends recently had our Christmas Party at this establishment albeit in the Priory Hall section of the hotel . The venue came highly recommended for the quality of both the food and service. What a disappointment it turned out to be . The service was dreadful to say the least , no wine waiter for a start , which meant anyone wanting a drink of any kind had to proceed to the bar , which was downstairs. This meant that the starter course for those queuing up for drinks became cold ! When I asked a waiter what on earth was going on he just shrugged his shoulders . Then, to crown things off , the bar ran out of the only wine they had in ample supply , the house wine ! The bartender was totally inept not knowing if fresh supplies of wine ( any type of wine ) would arrive in time for the remainder of our meals . All of this happened after I had been assured at the time booking the event that the full wine list would be available . On top of this we endured nearly an hour between the 1st and 2nd course ! When I enquired why there was such a delay I was met once again with a shrug of the shoulders. It wasn't until the following day that I then also found out there had been a couple of incidents on our second table with one of the waiters when a couple of my friends complained about the poor quality of their meals and he was (allegedly) rude and somewhat sarcastic. We are a mature group and don't normally complain about things but in this case we do feel short changed by the Kings Arms and the lack of service on our special night out . I have emailed the events manager but her response is fairly lukewarm. Suffice to say it will be their loss as I doubt many of our party will consider this venue in the future.

I went to the Kings Arms Hotel last week and the menu wasn’t that exquisite.The duck confit wasn’t that what I was expected,it looks like more than a terrine to me,and a small portion as well.The chef should look up on Google and you will see what a REAL confit duck is,obviously made from the entire legs of the duck. For the main course I had beef and the gravy sauce wasn’t tasty at all,probably made from poor wine,the sauce meant to be flavourful but it wasn’t. And to finish the cheese platter wasn’t nice,the blue cheese was too old,you can see the colour of the cheese turn into grey which indicates the cheese stayed longer in the fridge in the kitchen.And to notice that the chutney was the same as for the entrée and dessert,no effort made from this. Surely this is the place to avoid for the connoisseur of good food like me.I would not coming back.Best of luck!

So disappointed, we have eaten here a couple of times , especially loved the Sunday roast But today the roast was very small ,very expensive for what you are given. Everyone’s roast looks the same so they must be cutting down on portion size, also you do not get any side vegetables like you used to. Just half a carrot ,half a parsnip shredded cabbage and two roast potatoes and a deflated Yorkshire pudding. Sad to say we will not be coming back and shall not recommend to friends.

We had our wedding at The Kings in June 2023. They made our dreams come true. They were professional and also kept a personal touch. Managed to always answer our e mails in a timely manner and accommodated anything we struggled with. The service was faultless and they went to a lot of effort to orchestrate it so we didn't see each other until walking down the aisle. They gave us an option of having the service only which made this affordable for us. We cannot thank them enough. Also, as a female only couple, we quite often feel out of place in wedding venues but at the Kings, we felt none of this. They seem to care about you and do what they can to give you your perfect wedding. We were also able to have our Dogs at the service, who were made to feel incredibly special! We LOVED the room and our guests ALL had a wonderful time. We cannot thank them enough.

I wouldn’t normally leave a bad review however, My experience today left a distaste in my mouth. As a local to the area we decided to look online at the set menu option that is advertised even on a Saturday at the kings Arms restaurant during lunchtime . I was told it wasn’t on a Saturday even though it’s advertised online. I was told that they had a problem before with this prior to our visit but hadn’t managed to change the website. The manager did adhere to giving us a set menu which was also differed than advertised but we decided to choose from the Ala carte menu instead. Starter sourdough bread with mushrooms was rather soggy, not much flavour. Then we ordered our mains moules and the pork. My mussels were of an inconsistent temperature, some much hotter on the outside than on the inside, i cant imagine it was made fresh. The sauce was runny like dishwasher. I didn’t finish this. Sadly the manager couldn’t be bothered to come out to speak to us. My husbands pork was dry and the fat wasn’t rendered it was just rubber fat. We decided to pay and leave with empty stomachs. Paying £60 for our lunch it isn’t a cheap option by any means . We were told by the extremely embarrassed waitress that the manager had told her to take off the service charge. No explanation nor sight from the manager either. Only explanation was that they had trainee chefs in.

This used to be my fav place for Sunday lunch - been going for years. However I visited today and I have to say that the portion sizes were mean - 1 slice of beef, 2 small potatoes, half a carrot and half a parsnip and a yorkshire pudding - £19. To add insult to injury - 12.5% service charge added to an already overpriced meal. £60 bill for 1 course each (there were 2 of us) and a soft drink. Whilst the food tasted good, it wasn't worth the money. Wont be returning!

I visited this restaurant for the Set Menu dinner. The website stated that this was "Available Monday to Thursday dinner and Friday and Saturday lunch". However when I was seated at 7.30 the waitress informed me that the Set Menu ceased at 7 p.m. On checking the website again there was no mention of time restrictions. I emailed the management, and the reply was the time was stated on the website and that it was MY error. I checked the Website again and the time was indeed added to the website AFTER my visit and email. Luckily I had PrintScreened the original which did NOT include the time restraint. I emailed the Management again stating that to suggest it was MY error was disingenuous. And INCLUDED the PrintScreen showing that the time was NOT mentioned. A member of the Management team then emailed me asking for my phone number to discuss 'why and how their the error occurred', which was certainly not my fault. A week later I'm still waiting! I suspect they are too busy checking their website. Whilst I accept that mistakes happen, the proper thing to do was apologise and that would have been acceptable. To imply it was my fault I find repulsive.

Underwhelming. Pre booked on strength of reviews, we had mushrooms and salt and pepper squid, mushrooms needed seasoning and squid was not really salty or peppery! Main course of moules just tasted of sage, however my burger was good. Service was good. On the whole a little disappointing.

I have tried unsuccessfully to book a table for lunch tomorrow (8th September) but the central telephone unit sends you round in circles and option 1 Restaurant option 2 Reservations option O all go unanswered. This was to celebrate the anniversary of our wedding and reception at Kings Arms in 1969. The first attempt was frustrated by an operator (who tried very hard to make contact with the Hotel) but failed , and who sadly had no knowledge of what was available and what was on offer on the A frame adverts currently outside the hotel. What a let down and utter shambles!

Be Absolutely amazing meals, staff are 5 star and made to feel very welcome. Lovely choice of menu also. Definitely be returning in the near future

We have been there a number of times -- The quality of the food and staff are high (though it might seem longer wait than should be between courses. The lunch/early dinner set menu 2 courses for £15 is exceptional value for this quality - you now may have to ask for it rather than been given it as the standard presentation of menus. Its a good ambiance and lovely setting.

Recently stayed in Christchurch for a couple of mid-week days and found the Kings Arms Harbour Hotel while looking for a place for an evening meal. The building is striking and adjacent to the river bridge just off the High Street. The ambience is great and the staff excellent .. polite, helpful without being overbearing. We took advantage of a 2 course meal offer for £15 ( 6pm - 7pm) and it was excellent in every way, the wine of very good quality and sensibly priced. If you are in the area it is a 'must' to visit them. We did not stay in the Hotel but I'm sure it is every bit as good as the Chef! Great to see a high class establishment with such a good business plan.

Wow! What a terrible first impression.. We wanted to pop in for a drink, we are local and new to the area. We went to the bar that was full of bar stools and went to sit down, it was 6:15 pm. We said can we sit here and the very rude bartender said don’t sit here as it will get busy. So why are there many bar stools there ? Wow. What a terrible experience, I can see why it’s 3 star! I would give it 1! The Venue looks good but it’s badly staffed.

We went for the set menu which in the past as been good value. Unfortunately this time my husband’s main course was almost inedible! He certainly made the wrong choice. The steak was over cooked, a disgrace - what was the chef thinking of! We did complain but the waiter didn’t really care! On the plus side my soufflé was as good as ever but there is a surcharge. We are locals but really believe we won’t be going back to the restaurant for a long time. Such a shame as we like the venue and ambiance.

Great value lunch. £15 for 2 courses. Free parking opposite the hotel. Friendly staff. Special mention to our waitress Chantelle, who was professional, attentive and nice to chat to. A great asset to the company.

We last ate at the King’s Arms about five or six years ago. As two of our party of four had to send our mains back to the kitchen because they were cold we weren’t impressed, and didn’t go back. However, we thought we’d give it another chance and booked a table for last Wednesday at 1.45. We arrived fifteen minutes early but were shown to a table. The restaurant was busy but not every table was occupied. We ordered our meal and some wine. The starter, popcorn chicken, and the wine arrived reasonably quickly. We waited for the starter crockery to be removed and our mains to arrive. And we waited. And waited. Other diners were arriving and being served their starters, and then served with their mains. Still no sign of our mains. My husband asked the waitress when we could expect our food and was told, with no apology, “It’s on its way”. Which it patently obviously wasn’t. It was such a long wait that a very kind lady at the next table told the waitress , who had come to enquire if their meals were alright, that we were still waiting for our mains whilst she and her partner had come in after us and had their starters and mains delivered before us. After waiting even longer we decided to just pay for our starter and wine and leave. When my husband went to pay, at 3.15, and explain that we were leaving because it was unacceptable to be waiting that amount of time to be served, not only was he not offered any discount by way of an apology or compensation but he was actually asked if he wanted to leave a service charge!! Unbloodybelievable!!

I have only been to The Kings Arms Christchurch. The first time about 5 years ago was in the evening. The service was slow as was the food and when it at last arrived it was cold. When it came back it looked as though it had been given a quick burst in the microwave. Complaints were made and apologies were plentiful but no offer to reduce the price as compensation. Today we went for lunch. The order was taken within 5 minutes of arriving and the water and wine arrived quickly. The starter arrived after about 30 minutes and then after the first request about our food delay, no one came back to us. A second request was made about 90 minutes after arrival. Again no one seemed to know where our food was. I asked for the bill to pay for the wine and starter. Again many apologies no offer of compensation and the piss taking de resistance, I was asked if I wanted to add a service charge to the bill. The restaurant manager was apparently not available to comment.
