Casual lunch with friends. Sadly, disappointed. Food appeared to have been microwaved to reheat it. Some piping hot, but some only Luke warm. Sauce and cheese flavour missing from Mac'n'cheese. No where near as I have had many times in the past. No grated cheese on top either. The place was nearly empty apart from the 4 of us there were only two other coupled and a table for 4. No atmosphere. Staff polite, but looked bored. Would be reluctant to go back again now... sad.

We decided to have a dinner out and chose this location due to the pretty lights outside and ease of parking. The staff were very friendly and polite and the decor in the bar area created a warm cosy feeling . There is a variety of local produce when it comes to food and drink here. Always nice to try and be pleasantly surprised at the taste and quality! The prices here are reasonable and well worth the dining experience. So nice to dine at such a fabulous place with such a relaxing atmosphere.

We visited here whilst staying in the area, at first we popped in for a drink and we liked the atmosphere so we book a table for the evening. On arriving for dinner we were given the option of bar or restaurant of which we chose the latter. The restaurant was nicely laid out with real candles burning, the service was excellent as the staff are friendly and very attentive even when they got a little busy. We chose to have cheese garlic bread to start which we shared, this was so good with real mature cheddar cheese. For mains I had the gammon which turned out to be the last one so my partner changed his order to the burger, both meals arrived promptly and were very tasty not to mention we both had a plate full of food. The side order of onion rings was more than the two of us could eat but the coleslaw was just the right amount. I finished the meal with a pudding of a scoop each of vanilla and coffee mocha ice cream. The coffee ice cream was amazing it tasted so good I highly recommend it. When the ice cream came out the lady that was serving gave us an extra spoon just in case which made us both smile at the gesture but it shows how considerate she was as well to think of us so well. A lovely meal and service, we won’t hesitate to return when we are in the area again.

We visited the Kings Arms for the first time in several years and we are pleased we did. The 5 of us chose the carvery and the choices of meats was superb, every taste was catered for. The veg was a little limited when you compare it to our normal Sunday venue, the Pen Mill in Yeovil. The meats, potatoes, yorkshire's and parsnips were served and the rest through what you would expect, self service The only reason I didnt give this 'top marks' was the price £18.50 for mixed meat that is charged as premium over single choice, another first for us. The prices are dearer than we have come across and the excessive cueing was a problem for those that had standing difficulties. On mothers day it would also have been nice to see some flowers on tables, even if only Daffodils. The service was very prompt and efficient but not friendly. It may well of not been the normal but by the slim, older lady that served us the greeting was a missed opportunity that we all commented on. I have left positive challenge based on the fact it is a good place to eat and we will be revisiting to look at their standard menu that I am sure will be be excellent.

My ribeye steak was a little over cooked for my taste but the other persons was cooked Fine. Came with a big tomato stuffed with pulled pork which was really nice but unusual. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Portion sizes were really good and so we couldn’t manage a desert.

I travelled over from Ireland for a family funeral with my 15 year old twins we stayed in the King's arms for 2 nights. We were warmly welcomed which was lovely after a long drive the staff couldn't do enough to make us welcome. They have high standards for food whether it a large family gathering or meal for 2. Breakfast was excellent good quality ingredients well presented plenty of toast tea / coffee etc. The food was so good we had breakfast and dinner both nights here. I couldn't recommend this more. We booked this place on a whim we had no knowledge of the area and we are glad we did. Small business personal service great to see.

Very disappointed, 7 in our party, drinks took an age to come. Menu selection was such that I was the only one who was happy to order. Two of us selected meals but then were told they were unavailable and the others could not really find anything they wanted so unfortunately we had to leave and go elsewhere. Staff were pleasant. I have had meals here in the past (way back mind) and it was fine so not sure what has happened since.

Had a very pleasing meal at the Kings Arms last Thursday. Probably one of the best Mussels dishes I’ve had, juicy, plump and wonderfully cooked. The delicious fries and crusty bread and I could’ve been in Brussels. The rest of our party seemed to enjoy the food too. I am a little sad at the reduced options since this venue changed hands as I enjoyed coming here for the haggis dishes. Such a rarity to see that as a regular on a menu, alas it is no more with the new owners. Maybe I ordered well but I would certainly come back here again and the staff here seemed very attentive

This is by far the best roast I've had. Roast is not my typical choice as the ones I've tried locally have not been great. It's such a shame that the King's Arms is a bit far from where I live, but I would be willing to drive to Gillingham just for this! Been a few times now and the staff has always been extremely friendly, food quality is always great, and just the overall vibe of the place is super comfy, cosy and chill. Highly recommend this carvery!

Such a great pub and restaurant in absolute beautiful surroundings. Genuinely some of the best food we've had in a restaurant in a very long time and we eat out a lot! All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Really friendly owner checked in on us as well which was a great touch considering how busy they were. *AVOID. OWNERS CANT HANDLE CRITISM* visited while staying nearby. Was greated warmly and seated very quickly. We had a mixture of food but all starters we had went down fairly well (soup, halloumi & wings). Although one party did say the soup was a little watery & the wings are very spicy so beware! Mains did not go down very well at all unfortunately. My bacon on my burger was a bit crispy & completely dry. Others had steak, mac n cheese & lasagne. the mac n cheese lacked any flavour at all & the steak was inedible. Lasagne was also poor. Overall, not great and wont be back. Reduce to 1 star due to snotty reply from owners on google reviews.

My friends and I visited the kings arms for an evening meal and the experience left a lot to be desired. When we walked in we had our temperatures taken and were shown to our seats. We had our drinks order taken but they took a very long time to arrive despite there being a few other tables. We saw this man behind the bar wearing joggers and a t-shirt with NO MASK or face shield on! We asked the waitress who he was and to our shock we were told he was the new owner! Our food came but it was very very bland! The sliders were tasteless and drier than the Sahara desert and the chips were way to salty! The chips shouldn’t be pre seasoned as some customers can’t have salt / don’t like it but we weren’t made aware that they are pre seasoned. We saw a poor waitress wearing gloves that were way to big for her and she was constantly sanitising them which makes me think he hadn’t provided enough gloves or adequate PPE to change after every customer. They have Perspex around some of the tables but they haven’t bothered to move any tables so no one can social distance probably. No one was shown to their tables, they were just told where to go so you could see the very few customers confused as to where to sit. This will be the last time we ever visit here. Really upset as to how much he has ruined this once amazing pub!

(We have eaten here 4 times with the new owners and unfortunately been disappointed every time even though we hoped it would improve) the roast meat chewy, dry and tasteless, the little veg we got was bland and the potatoes were like re-heated aunt bessies (like eating sawdust) the staff were rude and pretty miserable, then the chef came out to the table to basically tell us that we were wrong and that he believes his food is very good while causing a scene in a busy pub, (after i had very quietly mentioned it to a staff member at the bar away from other customers) most of the food was not eaten, the beef left pretty much un-touched. we did eat some veg and because we ate some of the veg he said he would have to charge us for a vegetarian roast instead of the meat roast and wouldnt be taking the 2 really awful roast beef meals off the bill. His attitude was terrible and really wont get him far. They lost the custom of at least 4 different family's that day. We wont be returning.

Booked a table to take advantage of the government’s ‘’eat out’ scheme, as it appears did the rest of Dorset. The food was ok, but the place was heaving and service was very slow. People stood at the bar and I felt the tables could have been spaced out further but that would have reduced capacity. The barman (owner?) was quite abrupt when we arrived telling us the kitchen was backed up and we’d have to wait for our order to be taken, was probably about 20mins after our booking time before the food order was taken. Hand gel was available and our temperature was taken, but we won’t be going back.

We had both a lunch and an evening meal, sitting inside and in the garden. Staff are friendly, Covid is taken seriously and food is good.

Had a great experience at The Kings Arms last evening - they are offering a reduced menu as they adjust to managing Covid measures but still a really good selection of pub classics and something a bit different. You could easily select all the starters as tapas. The Moroccan lamb flatbread with goats cheese, pomegranate seeds served with fries and salad was simply delicious. A warm welcome from the friendly staff. Highly recommended as we all start venturing out for meals again.

Felt very welcome and safe. We had hand sanitiser and our temperature taken as we arrived and then we were taken to our table. Shields were around but not too overbearing. Everyone was very friendly and as always the food was excellent! We will definitely be back soon!!

Booked in advance for dinner this evening at our favourite pub in the area, The Kings Arms. Ventured out and thoroughly enjoyed being out for dinner after such a long time. Not many people out tonight, us and another couple dining. A more reduced menu choice although still plenty to choose from. Food was nicely prepared and presented, as always - Lasagne was great and plenty on the plate.Safety measures in place - hand wash on arrival, staff wearing clear visors and screens placed around the main restaurant floor with tables distanced. Nothing to worry about. Great meal and lovely staff. Happy to support a local business - well done on first day of opening following lockdown. Thank you and hope to see you again soon.

The Kings Arms at East Stour is a popular pub. It does the simple things extremely well. Traditional pub grub at reasonable prices. Good range of beers on tap. Friendly staff in a welcoming atmosphere. Do I need to say more ?We were a party of 12 and went for a birthday lunch. We booked a table on the day. Glad we did as the restaurant was packed. Lunch specials and kids menus were great value. Food was superb. All of the party had a great time. Would definitely go back and would recommend. Thank you!

I am going to struggle to articulate how poor this is. But here goes. We were visited by all the kids for the first time in ages so a Sunday lunch together seemed appropriate. We ate here 2 years ago and it was lovely. Its now under new management and I appreciate things take time to settle but really, the food was awful. There is no way ... and I mean, no way, this food was fresh. It was 'at best' cooked from frozen. The plate was swimming in liquid from the food. Tasteless. Just, really, really bad. So, disappointed.

We had our wedding reception meal here last week and I can honestly say it was fabulous. The staff were extremely attentive and the food was the best. Thank you to Lee, Hannah, Jay and the team for making our special day so memorable.

Love popping to Shaftesbury plenty of lovely shops we started feeling hungry so popped in to the cafe met with a smile, we found Shaftesbury a lovely friendly place i ordered beans on toast and a fry up for me 2 coffees grate price, the fry up was cooked to perfection the extra black budding was warmed through nicely and tasted amazing, on asking the lady cooking she very kindly gave me the name and three bits of pudding in a box i was really chuffed, but sadly i would say guys be car full the floor is very slippery i had walking shoes on and a stick as my legs aren't good but over all a exalent experience thank you x
