The service was very slow, I had to ask two different people for a menu, before going in to grab some myself as we seemed to have been forgotten. It also took a long time to order our first drinks. The food took a very long time to arrive, although it was relatively busy. One of our party ordered a roast chicken lunch, and the chicken looked like it was frozen chicken breast that had been sliced to look like fresh roasted chicken. I ordered the steak and ale pie which tasted fine, but looked like it had been sat out for a while…..it all tasted distinctly average.I don’t think I would visit the pub again, which is a real shame given it’s beautiful location.

After a walk we were looking forward to a bite to eat. Arrived 2pm, waited to be seated and as table service only had to wait to order drinks. Had to catch someone to order drinks. Ordered a bowl of chips at the same time. Waited, waited, and waited for chips. Asked how long they would be, but no-one came back with a response. Other tables food delayed by at least 40 minutes. Waited until 2.50pm, and then left, hungry and annoyed!

Came here for a drink and with the idea of lunch. Had to wait to be seated and as a result missed the last slot for food. Sat down outside and waited and waited. Eventually I pulled the waitress and managed to get our order in along with crisps as no food. And again we waited and waited whilst everyone around us got their drinks and food. Eventually we decided enough was enough and left. Very disappointed to say the least as the food that was coming out of the kitchen looked very good.

Went to the Kings Arms for lunch yesterday with my husband and daughter - our first meal out since lockdown eased. We were greeted by friendly staff and everything felt very Covid safe. We had a table in a marquee and although it was a chilly day there were plenty of blankets around if you needed one over your knees. The food was nicely cooked and presented - we chose fish and chips or ham egg and chips and one of us changed our order before it was served and there was no problem in changing. Staff were attentive and pleasant. All in all a good value lunch time experience.

Prebooked a table in the gazebo on Saturday evening. Had to wait quite a while on arrival to be acknowledged & seated. A table that had sat down after us had there drinks order taken & was given menus before us.When we finally ordered our drinks the waiter wasn't much help, didn't know what the house white was.We ordered nachos & the seafood platter; the nachos arrived with half melted cheese & a few dollops of salsa & sour cream. Not pleasant at all. The seafood platter was tasty but I could have cooked it myself with the frozen selection from Iceland. We didn't stay to order mains, what we see arriving on other tables didn't look much better.Overall very disappointing :(

We called in to The Kings Arms on a Thursday lunchtime. We hadn't booked as we had been walking and it was a spur of the moment decision. We had a very friendly greeting and were given the option of eating inside or out. As with most people, we chose outside. There were lots of outside seating but we were fortunate we arrived not long after 12.00 because it got very busy. The staff could not do more to follow the strict hygiene rules and tables were cleaned immediately after being vacated; one way system around the pub and toilets were extremely clean. We had the steak, ale and mushroom pie with fresh veg which was excellent. All the food coming out to customers looked very appealing. We will definitely visit again.

Have visited here each weekend since the lockdown was lifted. Pam, Steve, Faye and Chris and all the other staff have done their very best to accomplish all of the requirements whilst keeping customers happy. Nicely painted up and refreshed too! Still very good food and the marquee outside is an excellent place to sit. It's a small country pub so has limited room to play with. When we visited yesterday outside the pub was packed. When I went inside to visit the ladies there wasn't one person in there so there were plenty of tables if you didn't mind sitting inside. I believe they may now have had to limit their lunchtime for food back to between 12 and 3 but it is worth checking with the staff before queueing to get a seat to make sure.

We stopped here for lunch on the 14th July. The car park has been converted into an outdoor eating space, which has been done quite well. The service was terribly slow and we ended up asking the waitress to come over and take drink orders and give us a menu. Something that could have been done when we were seated. We ordered 2 ploughmans which we both regretted. The rolls were the bake at home type, I can accept this during c19, but the cheese was already sweating and the salad had wilted as it was all served on a hot plate. The nice waitress exchanged mine only to get another warm plate and wilted salad. It really was the most basic, low quality ploughmans I have had. Even the pickled onion looked dried out. The cooked food leaving the kitchen all looked ok so it was a bad choice. The c19 situation cannot be blamed for the low quality and poor presentation.

Four of us went there on a Wednesday, OAP day, we were crammed onto a table in the corner, boxed in by two other large parties. It was so tight that the waiting staff had to pass the food over the heads of the other parties, good job they didn't spill the hot soup.If there had been a fire we would have had a job getting out of the place, it was too over crowded. I ordered the plaice and triple cooked chips, the fish came out of a packet, it was the worst pre cooked fish I have ever seen, around the edges and the tail there was no meat just skin and bread crumbs, I've got better from Lidles. How can you spoil frozen chips, they can at the Kings Arms. They we soft not crisp, it was as though the fat had not been hot enough.

Christmas lunch for a group of 20+ hungry walkers. Pre-booking essential for this sort of number! The pub offered a choice of 4 dishes for each of 3 courses, with everything ordered in advance because of the numbers involved, plus coffee, mints and mince pies. For such a small pub they coped with us very well indeed. Good quality food, good-sized portions too. The Rocking Rudolph beer is also highly recommended (usual beers are Tribute and Greene King IPA). Friendly landlord and staff. Pub fully deserves the praise seen in other reviews.

I wish I could be braver and ring you, but what the hell has happened to your prices? My husband was hugely shocked at having to pay £4.70 for a pint of cider; these are central London prices. He said he won't be going back. I have to say that I also paid £10.25 for a tiny tiny piece of pie which, although was tasty, was not big enough and, in fact, I would have been embarrassed to put that on someone's plate. The service was very friendly and I asked what make the chili sauce was and the waitress very kindly went and got the bottle to show me. Unfortunately not a supermarket one, maybe that made it so nice. My dessert was not brilliant. A very bland lemon tart and unfortunately I ordered the honeycomb ice cream which did not help. We are regular visitors to this pub as they offer a wonderful Thursday evening deal and they are very enjoyable evenings. When we wanted to have a family get together we decided to book a table for 4 (later changed to 6) for a Sunday lunch. Upon arrival immediately told we could only have the table for one hour as other guests due in. We arrived promptly on time for our booking but by time orders taken and food arrived we had less than 40 minutes to eat our meal. Halfway through meal, we were told we could have another "20 minutes extra" before we had to leave. Our main course cleared away but no attempt to offer us desserts - got the feeling staff just wanted us out of the way. Had to go to bar to ask for dessert menu and then again go to ask for someone to take our order. As it turned out we were not asked to vacate the table but the whole atmosphere had been spoilt for us as we were on edge about the time and felt we had to eat fast - not good at all. Overall we all felt like we were unwelcome guests rather than valued customers - totally different to how we are treated on a Thursday evening. We will not be returning on a Sunday as result.

There is no mention of a service charge on the bill, so I’m very angry at this. Will not be returning in a hurry because of this. The overcharge was nearly £10, so a nice little earner if every table has this sort of amount added to their bill. A beautiful village and a lovely country pub, in fact there is a choice of pubs as Shoreham has several, but this was the first we came to and it looked nice. There is seating inside and out, so being lovely weather we sat outside which is by the road, but it is a very quiet road. There is only a very small pub car park, so best parking about 100 yards away in the free car park and then walking.

We popped in in the off chance early on a Sunday lunch time and they were able to squeeze us in. I recommend that you book as others that came latter were turned away. This is a traditional country pub/restaurant in the best sense. The menu is fairly typical, which isn’t a criticism, and is reasonably priced. We opted for breaded mushrooms and breaded Brie for starters. We both of us had the beef and mushroom pie for mains. My Brie was very good, whilst the mushrooms slightly hard. The mains were excellent. The staff were very friendly and professional and I would recommend to anybody in the area.

This was our find of the day during a four hour walk in Kent country around Sevenoaks. It's good to be able to endorse the other reviewers, for the pub is welcoming, the service friendly and the food all that you could expect. (The chips are noteworthy by the way.) Whether it was roast, Thai fishcakes or chilli con carne all were satisfied - not only with the quality but with the size of the portions which are too large for the oldies. We'll be back.

Having stopped here after a walk at 12.30 hoping for a drink and some lunch I walked into the bar and waited to be served. The barman was pouring a pint and failed to acknowledge me which was quite embarrassing as I stood right in front of him. Still as I waited to be served the bar staff only seem to be interested in serving the locals as they came in after me and were served on sight. One even saying "they were here before me", of which the bartender ignored that and got them their bottle of wine and glasses. After standing like lemons a lady walked out of the kitchen and said no more orders for an hour and that there already was an hour wait!.So bad service which is common for a roast in a pub and new staff and management needed. Next time I'll try one of the other pubs and hope not to be treated like a leper.

Called in on the off-chance for lunch. Very friendly staff and good prompt service. We both had the mac & cheese with salad and garlic bread which was very nice. Menu is not huge but contains a fair variety of good pub grub. Small olde worlde pub in the middle of a pleasant Kentish village. Will definitely go back and would recommend to others.

Four of us visited for sunday lunch and found the pub to be very welcoming and friendly. The menu provided the normal sunday roast but also plenty of alternatives at not too bad a price. The steak and kidney pie was excellent and my 2 nephews loved the dessert. Our waitress (Gemma) was friendly, attentive and helped make the experience even more enjoyable. Will definitely visit again.
