I have visited with the family a few times and we always enjoy are time here. Fire is on in the winter and they have a large pub garden. It can get busy but it is hard to find a good eat that has all freshly cooked food and a strong team to serve you. Definitely worth the wait. Would definitely recommend giving it a try, it's money well spent. Booking on a Sunday is a must!

We have been to this pub several times over the past few years and found it friendly with good food and good service. Sadly this time there is little good to say about our visit. For a Saturday night, the place was quiet which is never a good sign. We were shown to our table quickly and given the menus. The waitress said she would return shortly to take our drinks order. After about 10 minutes she returned to take both our drinks and food orders. Several items including the pie of the day and the proper chips were off the menu. We decided to go for the bacon chop and egg course even though it was priced at just under £24 per head as we thought it must be something special. After another 10 minutes the drinks were served (they had been standing on the bar for some 5 minutes). The food then arrived but was merely a thick gammon steak topped with an egg, a pot of sauce and some skinny fries in a basket. The food quality was good but definitely very overpriced. We then had the sticky date pudding which took about 15 minutes to serve and was very good. As the pub was not that busy it is clear that the young staff need more training to pay more attention to the customers and work more efficiently. The bar was often unmanned and we even saw one customer serving themselves with a soft drink! Sadly we will not return again until we see better reports on this website.

We had a fabulous time at the Kings Arms, the service was amazing as was the food, we had the steaks which were cooked to perfection. We had a lovely room, very warm and cosy. Television didn’t work though, not that it mattered to us. Would definitely stay there again, maybe go for a meal in the summer and eat outside. We took our dog who was allowed to go anywhere, which was a refreshing change. Thank you guys. Trudi Prewett-Clarke

Avoid. Went here before visiting Westonbirt the staff were grumpy and unhelpful. I mentioned in the notes when booking the table that we needed a gluten free menu and a high chair nether were provided and the staff member practically huffed when we asked for the allergy menu. Food was very average and over priced. Not a friendly vibe at all.

I had booked a table to eat for 5:45 pm last night, but we were advised that all the main course options were off apart from the roasts and the one vegetarian item. There were no Chef's specials as advertised above the fireplace apart from one starter and one pudding. When the food arrive it was obvious that it had been under heat lamps / keep warm devices for a long period of time. The vegetables were lukewarm and tasteless and the roast potatoes dried out and chewy to say the least. My colleagues chicken was ok, but my roast pork was tough and the crackling soggy. The staff advised that it had been a very busy session. The standard of the rooms was shocking for the level of price charged. Whilst the general condition of the furniture was battered and the windows rotten, the shower cubicles were disgusting, dirty and mouldy and the one in the Haystacks room did not work at all and mine did not supply any hot water.

Had a table booked for four of us on Saturday 19th May 2024 at 7pm. It wasn’t very busy and there was plenty f table to choose from. After looking at the menu which was quite small, the waitress took our order. They had no scotch eggs and only one portion of croquets left for the starters. I had the buttermilk fried chicken that was 2 chicken goujons with a chunk of iceberg lettuce, never worth the £9.25. We were informed that they had no potatoes except chips with the mains which we thought was very poor. For deserts we were told that there was no custard with the crumble,, really!!! Overall we had a very disappointing experience at The Kings Arms. We will not be returning or recommending.

Nice little bar with friendly staff throughout service. Has the log burner on as we arrived and was pretty busy for the time of day. There were a few of us and we stopped after a race for a spot of lunch. Service was brilliant but food took awhile to come out. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food but I had the burger which had a strange taste to it and the burger lacked flavour but the chips were lovely. Certainly not the best burger I had but the meal was alright and as the others enjoyed what they had if I came back I would try something else.

Visited here with friends on a Monday evening. Two Hangar steaks were ordered one medium rare and one medium. Both cooked the same rare, very chewy and not the best. What exactly is a Hangar Steak? Small fish was ordered , and small it was. The Malbec wine, although lovely, was overpriced and £9 dearer than the same Tilia bottle had at a pub not far away. One steak was refunded, but not a good experience over all.

Lovely country pub setting and a menu that had looked excellent . Sadly the choices were more limited - For an early saturday evening diner we were surprised to find “no mussels.” and more surprising was that there was no mashed potato to go with the pie and mash !!!. Sadly this was then compounded by a sweet choice of Biscoff Doughnuts that arrived burnt on the outside and paste like in the middle which had to be sent back. However the Steak was well cooked and the homemade beef and horseradish pie is highly recommended. The service from the team was very good . Final request - sharper knives for the steak.

For some reason, Tripadvisor won't let me put a new review on the King's Arms hotel site! So I am putting it on the restaurant one instead. Lovely breakfasts, great dinner in the restaurant. Just the perfect stay. See you again soon!

Just had to do this, what a pity !!!! Booked lunch at 1.00 because we could take our dog. Arrived at 1.00 and shown to a table eventually with Menus I chose Scoth Egg, they had run out. I chose for main course Faggots and, guess what, they had run out. So went for the Pie with mash of choice, I chose Swede mash to be told that they only did mashed potatoes. We then left as, let's face it, there is just so much you can take !!!!! Never left a place before but we should have been informed on arrival that they basically didn't have any food !! Sandwiches were probably good but really I wonder. We found a pub down the road and it was excellent. We unfortunately won't be back.

Only thing i would mention is that for pub food it is all quite pricey, as is the wine

Again the Crawley Town Supporters were on their travels again and after losing the Majors Retreat when is closed down, we have been looking for another venue for our stop on the way to Forest Green Rovers - what another gem we have found - we don't like motorway service much so we find pubs that are just off the motorways or on our route to the games. Thanks to all the staff for making us extremely welcome and the food provided for all 53 on the coach was very good - the Beer and Cider festival was a bonus as well - we even managed to get the coach into the car park - we stayed for an hour and a half - hopefully the locals weren't to disrupted. We will hopefully visit again in the future.

Very nice interior and a cosy place but overall we felt the food was bland and overpriced. The venison haunch was a really odd texture and pretty bland plus the potatoes and parsnips accompanying it were not crispy or nicely roasted. The gravy was also quiet bland and the Yorkshires were very thin and lacking in substance - like a crispy biscuit. Finally, I ordered a sticky toffee pudding for dessert which came alone with no ice cream, cream or custard which seems very odd - I questioned this and asked for a scoop of ice cream which was then added to the bill at £2 which I think is rather tight on their part.

My partner and I have just enjoyed a lovely two night stay at The King's Arms in Didmarton, and absolutely loved it. The welcome was warm and everyone there was exceptionally friendly, and they could not have done anything more to make our stay more enjoyable. Our room was clean, comfortable and cosy, and all meals really were fabulous- fresh, piping hot and beautifully cooked. It is though the friendliness of the landlord and landlady and of the lady who served us our meals, that we'll remember the most. Both ladies were kind enough to offer suggestions for places we could visit which was so kind. We would have no hesitation in returning and would readily recommend it to anyone who is similarly looking for a lovely place to stay in the beautiful Cotswolds.. Just the most perfect holiday spent at the Kings Arms. We stayed here with a big group of friends and family for my husbands 50th. We used the kings arms as a base to do some lovely winter walks and then had a big celebration dinner in the private dining room. We also stayed on for NYE and had the most fun evening with a big family dinner followed by great fun in the bar. Everything about our stay was perfect. The cottage was great for our family group and allowed us a space to congregate before and after dinner. The dinners in the pub were utterly delicious. However the thing that really makes the kings arms stand out amongst other pubs Is the warmth of the hospitality. Every single person we dealt with was just so lovely and attentive. Nothing was ever a problem and we really felt so welcome and at home ! Special mention must also go to Mike for all his wonderful organising of us and for being there at literally every breakfast lunch and dinner with such a cheery disposition. However, we took our seats and the meals were brought to the table which weren’t very good at all. The lamb was very fatty and the meal were not hot. My wife asked for the bill and there was a charge of circa £34.00 as a service charge which she challenged and was credited and there was no apology for making a double booking. Myself and my partner had a great stay here. The food was tasty (the burger is massive!) and the pub was busy with a good atmosphere. The landlord and landlady are very friendly. It is a great location to go and explore the Westonbirt Arboretum which is stunning. The only downside was that I had booked a certain room with the landlord over the phone (the one with the horse mural) but when we arrived a different member of staff put us in a different room with a smaller bed and a bath instead of a shower. When I explained this I was told that this was the room we had been given and that was it. I was a bit disappointed as the mural on the wall was part of the selling point for me as it is unusual. Also the bathroom was a bit run down with paint peeling off the wall. We were charged more for this room than quoted for the other room which was bigger.Generally though a really lovely stay.

Went here for Sunday lunch today and it's not cheap at £15.99. the beef we'd nice but the rest was bland and average at the best. The roast potatoes where truly awful, you know when you have old roast potatoes and then try to cook them again, they were like that. Obviously not cooked fresh on the day and just deep fried again. Horrible. No one checked as we were eating and only at the end when going to pay. I gave them this feedback about the roast potatoes at the end and the waiter just said "yep". No apologies. No "I'll feed that back" just yep... Oh and they add 10% discretionary service charge for this !! First and last visit and we only live 10 mins away. The hunt for a decent Sunday roast continues ..

We have a marvellous stay at the Kings Arms. The hots and staff were so welcoming and friendly. The accommodation is excellent(we stayed in Bobtail Cottage)> it was spolessly clean and had everything we needed. The food is top notch and our dog really enjoyed his own sausage for breakfast daily. This is a fabulous place to stay.

Great food, great staff and a lovely place to stay. I would thoroughly recommend this place for somewhere to stay or somewhere to eat. Lots of places to visit nearby so it is a good base. Breakfast is very nice. Staff are attentive and friendly at all times.

Really helpful and very friendly folks at a busy time finding a table for four (plus doggy). I had the burger (without bacon) as did the kids and the leader had a ciabatta which was home made and got a big thumbs up! Owners engaging and chatty and it was a nice hour or too break in the journey. Nice garden at the rear but it was a bit too cold for that on the day.

We could not recommend Paula and her staff at Epicurean more. They put their hearts into their work! Everything is delicious! I especially love the gin menu!

If anyone renting our holiday cottage asks us to recommend a good food pub in the area we always recommend the Kings Arms because for as long as I can remember it has been an excellent ambience lovely staff and a 'yummy' menu of well presented dishes at a reasonable price. Add to that the excellent choice of well kept real ales and a massive car park and there's really nothing not to like. No one has ever come back disappointed and we've been going there for years.

This is one of our favourite local pubs as the food is excellent and the service is really friendly. It has a menu and a specials board and we usually have one of the specials, which are excellent. They also have good beer and a good choice of beer. It is a very dog friendly pub and there is always a good welcome for our two large hounds. In warmer weather there is a lovely walled garden to sit out in. Highly recommended.

a great Sunday lunch but do book as it gets very busy. I had the beef (what else) which came with a good selection of veg, and a big Yorkshire pudding, all light and fluffy. Service good and staff very helpful and friendly

We have just returned from our second visit to the Kings Arms, having thoroughly enjoyed a one night stay in November, we decided to book a weekend away to celebrate our Son's 13th Birthday. We stayed in one of the lovely cottages at the back with our children and two small dogs, we really enjoyed the space, layout and super comfy beds, it was also great to be able to sit in the lounge whilst our children were in bed rather than sitting in our bedroom !

Five tired mums looking for a night away ... This is the third time we have stayed and have every intention of returning for a fourth. We stay in Saracen cottage that has everything that we need, comfortable lounge area, well equipped kitchenette and three beautiful bedrooms. I would only mention that the living area is a little dark and would benefit from better/more lighting. We always book for evening dinner in the pub restaurant and find the service and food outstanding. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend The King’s Arms.

We had a great 2 night stay here and ate at the pub both nights. The food was fantastic, both breakfast of full English and the evening meals. I had an amazing chocolate orange tart - just delicious. The hosts were really welcoming and the room nice, with a roll top bath. Thoroughly recommended!

We had a delicious dinner with friends whilst on holiday in the area. We were made to feel very welcome, as was our Norfolk Terrier, by the truly charming owners. Our evening was delightful and we hope to make a return visit at some point. We highly recommend a visit to the Kings Arms in Didmarton. It's also just a few miles from Westonbirt Arboretum.

Six of us stayed in the Saracen Cottage. It was perfect! We had our own space to chat and have a relaxing drink before heading over to the restaurant for a lovely dinner. Very comfy beds - we are old friends and had no qualms about sharing. The next morning we had a gorgeous breakfast which included home made vanilla yogurt and compote. It really was delightful. The staff were all very charming, relaxed and made us really welcome.

We stayed on Saturday the 10th November. Our room was beautiful with a dressing area before the bathroom and a super comfy four poster bed. We travelled with our two dogs who were made as welcome as us in the bar. We enjoyed a fantastic evening meal, I had the butter nut squash risotto which was the best I have ever had , my partner had the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce which again was fresh and delicious. The staff were so helpful and informative giving us details of local walks with our dogs , would highly recommend.

Stayed here last year and had a fab time. Our room was really comfy and cosy, with nice decor. The bar is perfect for a relaxing autumn drink by the fire and both the evening meal and breakfast we enjoyed were of a very high standard. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return in the future

We’ve ate at this place regularly over the past few years but sadly, standards have dropped and it may be a while before we return. We ore booked a table but ended up being seated by the bar and not in the restaurant area. The roast pork was too thick and more like a pork chop. Potatoes were over cooked and the cauliflower cheese undercooked. The waitress dropped the cauliflower cheese (can happen to anyone) which meant the second fish arrived half way through the meal. My daughter noticed after we had left the restaurant that some of the cheese sauce had spilled onto her wool coat ! All in all this place is ok but not as good as it use to be and certainly over priced for the quality of food on offer. Sorry guys!

We went for a lovely walk at the Westonbirt arboretum yesterday to enjoy the beautiful autumn colours in the sunshine. We decided to stop off for a meal on our way home to Bristol, & the King’s Arms looked as if it was doing good business.

Went to pick up some lovely fresh veg and had a gluten free cheese scone, hot chocolate and gluten free cake. Best place around for managing cross contamination: separate tools & preparation area for gluten free, staff were very knowledgeable about coeliac disease. And cheese scones & cake were delicious. I've been multiple times and will be returning! I would highly recommend

Ordered scrambled eggs and avocado on whole grain toast and a mocha and can honestly say it was the most tasteless breakfast I’ve ever payed for! Scrambled egg well over done and clearly just microwaved, the toast was more like lukewarm bread, the bacon was tasteless and the mocha was watery like it was an instant powder one you buy from the supermarket.. Overpriced! Should of ordered cake instead…

We stayed in the Horse&Groom for a brief weekend and enjoyed every moment! Went for a short holiday with family in the Cotswold district and was delighted to find this gem! our rooms were clean and tidy and equipped with a coffee machine and a great shower, even got a very generous welcome basket with treats! staff were friendly and welcoming and helped with every request or question. no complaints at all! would like to come back once we’re in the area :)
