Fell well short of expectations.sat at table for a drink. Dirty table with glass marks from previous customers. Moved tables. Staff sitting on adjacent table,. Such unprofessional behaviour all round from them. Food arrived with no cutlery. Had to wait. Then Had to ask for something that was actually detailed on the menu to accompany the meal. Says it all when the promotionsl chalk board says ‘epresso martini’ rather than espresso.. Run by kids

Very poor experience at this pub last week with our assistance dog. We booked a table for 3 for a business meeting and phoned the pub in advance that we were bringing an assistance dog. They placed us on a table that had a very busy walkway next to it, not major problem until the dog got stepped on by a guest who was being shown to his seat by the manager, no major issue we moved to a quieter table. Later in the meal a jack Russel dog who was off lead inside the pub/restaurant area kept coming over to annoy my assistance dog, we politely asked our waiter to ask find the owner (who was not present with the dog) and ask him to collect his dog and keep it on a lead, she said "I will try" This did not work and the dog kept pestering us leaving us to have an awful experience. Turns out this man and his dog are in this pub often and he never has it on lead and it seams the staff are scared of him, they didn't even ask the doorman to ask him to lead his dog or leave. The pub has a policy that dogs are welcome but must be on lead, the manager was not aware of this policy until i told her. They did give us a partial refund and an apology but i feel for a pub/restaurant of this quality from this chain they should be doing better. The man waited outside the pub for us late at night (9pm-10pm) and when we left he gave myself and my 2 young female guests verbal abuse and was very threatening not good enough all round.

Our room was clean and comfortable although cold when we arrived as no heating on. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and breakfast service and food choice was excellent. The hallways and stairs to the rooms could do with some updating and as our room looked over the alleyway it was a bit noisy at night - but it is above a pub so we kind if expected that! And the manager did apologise in the morning. Good central location on a lovely High Street.

I booked a room yesterday last miniute since I got stuck in the city and no uber driver was available at that time and it come to my surprise that this hotel took the money out of my bank account yet when I arrived to the location there was no one there. I tried knocking on the door ask around but it was pouring outside so pretty much no one was around. Because of this I had to wait for hours în the rain thinking that maybe someone will come, I try messaging them no one except an AI responded from booking.com, I try calling them on the number provided no one responded. Maybe you are a very good pub however hotel wise is just shameful that you let your guests waiting in the rain and after not even a response from you guys. Just as a fallow up after almost two months: The owner and whoever is the manager just ghosted me not responding to any of my messages emails or phone calls. IT IS A EMBERASSMENT OF A PLACE!!!!! I DO NOT RECOMEND IT AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY MY MONEY!!!! Those guys bring shame to the Kings Arms and they should just not be allowed to operate.

Went here for the first time on Sunday for a few cocktails and some dinner in the bar not knowing what to expect but I was very pleasantly surprised. The lebanese fries and cauliflower bites were my favourite out of the food I had and the porchetta roast was great although for the price the portion size could have been a bit bigger. My espresso martini and cosmopolitan were also very well done so would like to thank Harry and Raffy (the bartenders on shift), no complaints there at all as they were both very sweet and happy to have a chat! Overall a very good experience, would definitely come back again! Thank you to the team and manager who were all lovely.

Christmas Lunch 25/12/2024 VERY DISAPPOINTING-DONT BOOK CHRISTMAS LUNCH HERE I have written a letter of complaint as a result of my extremely disappointing visit to The King's Arms on Christmas Day. 3 weeks later I still haven't had the courtesy of a reply. My party of six had booked a table for the second sitting at 3:00 p.m. We arrived at 2:45 p.m. and were seated promptly. However, from the outset, several aspects of the visit were far below expectations. I was seated at the end of the table, next to my elderly mother. Unfortunately, her view was of the baby-changing facilities, and my own view was of a counter stacked high with empty pizza boxes—certainly not what one would expect for a festive occasion. The meal on Christmas Day was a set three-course lunch. My starter, smoked salmon with bread and a rocket salad, arrived as expected. However, the salmon was improperly filleted, and I unfortunately choked on a large bone, which I had to remove from my throat and spit back onto my plate. This was not only unpleasant but also a serious health concern. After this, we waited an astonishing 90 minutes for our main course. I asked on a couple of occasions about the delay and was told the restaurant was operating a queuing system due to the holiday. While I understand the challenges of serving a large number of guests, this extended wait time was frustrating and far from acceptable. I should also point out other tables seemed to be served far more promptly despite sitting down after us, which undermined the above explanation. When the main course finally arrived, I was served lobster, which came with five small new potatoes and a few leaves of rocket salad. The lobster was cold, mushy, and lacked any texture. It was clear that it had been previously frozen, which I could have overlooked, but the quality of the dish was poor—tasteless and unappetizing. It seemed as though the lobster had been reused from earlier sittings. My mother, who had ordered the turkey, was also disappointed as her meal arrived without the usual stuffing, while the other guests at our table received stuffing with their turkey dinners. Under normal circumstances, I would have requested a different table and addressed my concerns directly with the manager, and I certainly would have refused to pay the service charge. However, given the nature of Christmas Day, I felt uncomfortable doing so at the time. My personal experience was extremely disappointing and not reflective of the quality I expected from this establishment.

Early evening visit. Bar felt unloved, cushions needed plumping, crisp packets clearing and crumbs cleared from seating. Restaurant had unruly children left to their own devices by 'parents'. If I had booked to eat there I would have left immediately. Felt like a children's playground. No thank you.

A nice pub/restaurant that has kept some of the original features, a large and welcoming fireplace, a long bar counter full of shiny brass and a real bell to call for the last order before closing . The food is decent, and if you like pizzas, a real pizzaiolo will perfom in front of you the elaboration of your pizza in an authentic pizza oven. Worth a visit..

Our festivities over Christmas always end up by getting together with two very good friends. We enjoy New Year's Eve with a splendid meal at either their house or ours, and go out for breakfast on New Year's Day. For many years it’s been a bit of a tradition to visit The Kings Arms for their excellent Eggs Benedict. Regrettably, this year was not a good experience. Booked in at 10.30 a.m., tea and coffee arrived fairly swiftly, but then we waited an hour before we said we’ll pay for the beverages and go elsewhere. The delightful waitress was most apologetic but it still took another ten minutes before the food arrived. All the young waitresses were doing a wonderful job in the circumstances, but the chefs hollered at each other in the open kitchen, accompanied by crashing and banging of plates and pots and pans. Not the sort of racket you need with a sore head after an evening heavy on the wine. It was no busier than on previous years, but the cooking seemed to be highly disorganised. We would like to have been told on entry that it would be a lengthy delay before we were served. Totally unacceptable. (But the Eggs Benedict were delicious.)

Pros: Our waitress, whose name we unfortunately didn’t catch, was an absolute delight. She was attentive, friendly, and overall excellent in managing our needs and orders. 3 for brunch. One tea pot turned up without lid. Surely they have other tea pots? Nice tea though. Gluten free bread completely inedible . Was left completely and no one asked why. Vegetarian breakfast more expensive than full English. Seriously what’s that all about? And don’t blame it on the teaspoon size dollop of avo! And tastes like it’s been cooked next to or even on top of the meat. Marco Pierre couldn’t even make a mushrooms taste like that without cooking it with the meat! Underwear and outline of buttocks show when staff member adding logs to fire. Not needed at brunch time. Cleared away one glass from table after we had finished. Staff member just walked away and vanished leaving payment machine on bar for last person to pay. Had to ask another member of staff for receipt. Lack of attention to detail? Or just lack of attention….

The venue was really good and we anticipated a good time but sadly this was not to be. The starters for two were good but for two of us no so the tomato bruschetta turned out to be mostly raw halves of cherry tomatoes on toast and a portion of olives were mainly black olives (only 4 green) and the black olives were musty and really left a bad after taste. The main course were as follows Pizza, which was nice but not special, gammon egg and chips which was salty gammon, overcooked egg and chips and cottage pie with aged beef containing little meat. This was mentioned to the waiter but shrugged off. The bills. with two gin and tonics (one a double) a tonic and a bottle of house wine came to just under £200 which was wildly overpriced. When I asked for a bottle of house red, normally a cheap option I was told that they do not have a house red but had a Malbec which I accepted. Had I known it was £37.50 I would have refused. My suggestion is avoid this restaurant or have your wits about you. Not exactly a relaxing experience.

The Staff are what makes this place special - there are some who have been around for a while, whilst also some new faces. Everyone is extremely polite, and genuinely cares about you having a good time. It’s worth mentioning that they are AMAZING with allergies - I have more than one allergy, and they always look after me very well, which is rare. Most places just say “best if you avoid this and have a plain chicken breast etc” - not once had this comment. They go back and forth, check food over and over and make sure that they can prepare the best (and safe) food for me. A massive thank you to all the staff, your efforts are very much appreciated. Thought lets go for a quick pizza and beer on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered at the bar, sat next to the fireplace which so needed cleaning up, the place felt very tired and our table was sticky. Two drinks and a pizza to share, pizza arrived without cutlery then as we started eating discovered it being less than luke warm, cold pretty much. Mrs H took the pizza back minus two slices for it only to be returned 2 minutes later on a clean plate which clearly went back in the oven for 1 minute and was still cold (minus the two slices). The pizza had flavour, but cold second time again, instead of making it from scratch is beyond me. The premium you pay for the Kings Arms for drinks/food certainly was not worth this trip and we won't be rushing back. If I hadn't paid upfront I would of refused to pay for such a sloppy meal.

I visited the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon with my sister and boyfriend. We enjoy the menu that the Oakman Inn’s chains of pub/restaurants offer so we thought we’d visit the Berkhamstead’s branch to see what it was all about. I’m very easy going when dining out at restaurants and I work within the public myself so I always find myself cheerful and friendly with staff, waitresses and waiters and this is how it should be always. Especially during these trying times. However, today might’ve been the worst experience I’ve had with a waitress/waiter. I’m not one to leave a snotty review but I was honestly so stunned today with how I was spoken to, sister and boyfriend both shocked too. I won’t reveal the name of said waitress but I was in disbelief at how one of the waitresses spoke to me today, I’m 22, a young girl and the tone of voice she displayed with me was aggressive and blameful. When it came to presenting us with our meals, she had brought over the incorrect meal for myself and I stated to her the correct meal I had ordered and she insisted that I had said to her it was the dish she presented. When I proceeded to let her know I’m fully aware and able to definitely assure her of the meal I stated I wanted she proceeded to argue back with me that it was my fault and basically accused me of lying about what I had ordered… I felt very belittled and upset with her tone of voice and approach. The fault was on her end for not double checking our order once taking it or reading it back to us like a waitress should do to avoid mishaps like today. Her words “no you ordered the pollo picante that’s what I had written down I heard you say picante” I responded with “no I ordered the pollo bianco pizza” which I pointed to on the menu whilst ordering. I’m unsure why she was so adamant I’d ordered something I quite clearly didn’t want, it makes no sense at all and it was just a silly mistake on her end which she needed to admit to instead of trying to argue with a girl younger than her. Embarrassing. I am still in disbelief at how she spoke to me I came away very upset and shocked. Maybe she was having a bad day but women to women, her tone was very bitchy and aggressive and I couldn’t ever imagine talking to a customer like that at my work. Sometimes you make mistakes and that’s fine, we all do it, but to then aggressively blame the customer is not on at all. Apart from this the food was lovely but I won’t be trying this oakman chain again unfortunately. I hope everyone else visiting has a better experience as I know this place is awesome none the less

Taken here after a tedious day or sorting out a friend’s phone. The service, food and attention to detail was amazing. Our waiter Gabi was on point with great suggestions and super service. The place is very Covid friendly and definitely worth a visit.

Where do I start....terrible service in everyway. We turned up on Sunday to find our table was in the rain! I was confused when they lead us to our table. Did they honestly think we would sit down and have dinner in the rain? I...

Spur of the moment lunch with friends was very enjoyable. Polite and friendly staff providing good service. Food was very nice particularly the Sunday roasts. Loved the pork belly. Definitely be back for a return visit. Good Covid protocols as well.

My husband and I had pizza at this restaurant and it was cold , tasteless. It’s expensive for such poor quality of food. Menu needs some good revision! In addition to that The Security came twice to remind us to leave before 10pm as per...

I had a lovely evening at the Kings Arms. The atmosphere and service were lovely. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced as the restaurant is participating in the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme. Our waiter, James W was helpful, chatty and well...

Not great at all. Drinks are nice but over priced. Service very slow and food is tasteless. ordered the mezze sharer and very bland as not seasoned. That salt, pepper and oil and vinegar did nothing to improve taste at all so we barely finished....

I had roast beef sunday roast. Poor. Very disappointing. Was the meat carved from a joint in the restaurant?

Visited for Sunday lunch with friends as they’re local and thought it worth trying out together.Lovely open fire in lobby bar where the atmosphere looked relaxed and warm.We moved down through to the restaurant where it looked rather quiet ... soon things changed! It got very very busy ... and very hot ... and noisy. They have quite an extensive menu including pizzas cooked in their own pizza oven (we tried their garlic flatbread to start as a nibble and it was thin, crispy and very good). Our friends’ mains (swordfish and pollo piccante) were good but our veggie dishes - portobello mushroom and no pollo pie: too much potato topping and then accompanied weirdly by more roast potatoes!!?? and my beetroot falafel burger: rather greasy/burned falafels and very dry over-charred bun, plus weird combo of sauces, was quite unappetizing and indigestible.Would recommend keeping menu simpler but doing everything well rather then trying to be all things to all people and doing some things badly.Maybe we were unlucky with our menu choices ... but it was Sunday lunch on a cold winters day and we didn’t want .... another salad!

This place is perfect for a cosy lunch and afternoon settled by the fire. We booked for our group of 8 and were pleased we weren’t constrained to a set Christmas menu. There’s stacks of choice for food including vegan options and all of our meals were tasty, and generous! Service was good and the whole pub is so cosy, will definitely be back.

Love coming here!! Being gluten free can make eating out very daunting and stressful, but The Kings Arms takes real care when taking your order, and are all very allergen aware. The food here is great - so many GF alternatives across the entire menu, making it feel like you actually have a choice for once. Possibly the best Gluten Free Burger (and chips!) I’ve ever had - you won’t be disappointed. Thanks KA, I’ll definitely be back!

Following an aborted breakfast trip to the Old Mill, we headed to the Kings Arms instead. I can’t fault it at all.Whereas the Old Mill greeted with a disgusting smell of the toilets, the Kings Arms had the delightful scent of the open fire and cooked bacon. The waitress was really friendly and took my request for 2 pots of tea in good stead (so I didn’t need to return to the bar to re-order) and as for the food itself....Delicious, meaty sausages, well-cooked and tasty bacon. A crispy hash brown, home made baked beans, a hearty portabello mushroom and two poached eggs (ever so slightly overcooked but everything else was so perfect). Will absolutely be returning very soon!

However, loving fire. But sad-sack put it out before the pub closed. May as well not bother.... we want more fire, not less fire Pyromaniacs

We both enjoyed another dinner at the King's Arms. I had the roast duck with heritage carrots from the specials menu and it was superb. The reduction was clearly the work of a very good chef. The K. A. has become one of our favorite eateries in Berkhamsted.

We recently had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Kings Arms, I cannot thank the staff enough, they were superb the whole way through ensuring our day went smoothly. The food was exceptional, plenty of it and very tasty! They were always on hand for any queries and happy to help with anything we wanted for the day even getting the ingredients in for my favourite cocktail which is no longer on their menu! I would recommend to anyone to consider The Kings Arms for their wedding.

I went here with my family expecting a classic pub dinner. Instead we were treated with a cosy restaurant feel with all the charm of a local pub. There was a huge selection of food for me (vegetarian) which is amazing. All the food was incredible, with a special mention to the pizzas which are cooked in front of your very eyes. The staff did very well with our weird requests -sorry! I'd come again.

The fish and chips are not worth much, the other dishes are good enough. The place is very beautiful and relaxing on a good day. You have to go and order inside the pub and it's a bit of a hike
