Unfortunately a disappointing Sunday roast, Yorkshire puddings are clearly bought in vs the website pictures of homemade. We chose roast beef, which was stated as medium, but unfortunately it was really tough, we had to ask for a steak knife to cut it and ended up taking a good chunk home for our dog as it was so tough and chewy. A real shame as it is a nice pub and we were looking forward to a really good Sunday roast.

Went here for Fathers Day as we had seen it on the “Hotel Inspector” and it looked a nice place and we love going to little village pubs. I hopes were high. The staff and food were great. The value for money was ok. The inside of the place was ok but I am sorry to say the outside let the place down. Pulling in to the car park it felt in need of a little care. The door from the car park was in need of replacement as it had rotted away need the handle. The Hotel inspector would be screaming at them about cleaning up. It’s a shame as the food was good and staff very friendly. Will I be going back again. No, I’m sorry but appearance is a big factor in getting people in. Please take a little more care and don’t throw it away.

Called in on the way home from shopping in melton. The pub was clean and the girl behind the bar was a real credit. We sat in the bar and enjoyed a drink by a roaring woodburner. Everything was going well and we had a look at the menu thinking that we would come back later for a bite to eat. Then it happened. The friendly bar staff disappeared and was replaced by another girl who obviously didn’t want to be there and had zero customer skills. Firstly she told our autistic son that he couldn’t sit in the dining area to make a phone call! Then I was told off for turning down the raging woodburner. She begrudgingly served us another drink. When we tried to mention this to the manager he really didn’t seem shocked or interested. We said our piece and left never to return.

Had a quick trip down south to see mum and decided to break our stay with a night eating and sleeping at the gorgeous Kings Arms Scalford (just outside Melton Mowbray) - based on having seen it on a recent ‘Hotel Inspector’ on Channel 5. We both warmed to Mark and Michael and wanted to see it for ourselves in person! I would encourage ANYONE in the Leicester area to consider staying and eating there- fab breakfasts, lovely pints of real ale, AND the best pies we have EVER eaten. Anywhere. Ever. (Mark has won awards for them and everything) Great food, comfy cozy room and a proper old country pub with atmosphere. We wish Mark and Michael health and success for the future as they’ve worked so hard for almost 20 years for very little reward. Rescuing the last surviving (derelict) pub in a proper English village. I’m sure these things should come with awards and medals!

We arrived on a very cold and foggy Saturday and the welcome was warm. We chose to eat lunch and had the Christmas pie. It was the nicest pie I can remember having, wonderful. It came with a selection of vegetables. My friends had the festive burger, which they reported was lovely. But the pie was a thing of wonder Dog friendly as well We were fed and watered well, and were able to venture back into the fog to continue our walk

Sadly very disappointing in every aspect. Will not return. I think I went in late summer 2022. Thankfully I can't recall exactly, although some memories will not fade. Stayed overnight as had business locally. Warning - Don't arrive too early. Evening meal in a cold and draughty seated area off the bar. The fire was inadequate, wear a coat. Breakfast was served in a cold hallway, wear a coat if you have to go eat here. Interestingly consisted of 1 rasher of streaky bacon sliced into 3 sections artistically or tastefully arranged (spread or draped) across a cold plate, one egg scrambled on the plate. NB 1 egg scrambled always looks pitiful. 1 slice of toast allocated. Chef apparently may not have been too well, constantly coughing, at the table and in the kitchen, picking his dirty nails at the table when taking the breakfast order. Hilarious. Once you notice things like tis, you see other issues. This was so bad it became comical, as in "surely, it can't get worse"? Lo and behold, surprise, it did. Simple, question any traveller or guest asks, would I return. Answer - no. Others may enjoy the novelty. Sad, as I've read they have featured on Alex Polizzis programme.

Passed through on a warm afternoon with family and ordered Chips for the kids and ice cream afterwards, we also had drinks but I must say very disappointed with Chips portion sizes especially for the price! Also kids ice cream tubs were small and expensive. A bowl of chips is what kids want so a kid friendly menu would be better for families. A small tub of ice cream for nearly £4 is extortionate! Sadly we haven't returned and its a shame because we would be regulars if menu was better and family friendly. The price we paid for both chip portions could get both my children full meals and a dessert down the road at a pub in Melton so we will continue to do that.

We had our wedding reception at Kings arms and can not thank them enough for our amazing day. Food was exceptional and hosts were welcoming and accommodating. They simply went above and beyond to make our day as special as possible. We visit regularly and can not recommend them highly enough, food is locally sourced and of highest quality and the menu caters for all, Mark and Michael work incredibly hard and they give 100% to make sure each and every customer feels welcome and valued. So many village pubs are closing down so it's important to support them as much as we can, King's arms is unique and outstanding in every way. Thankyou both.

I have kept away from this village pub for over 2 years because of the awful behaviour of one of the partners, Mark.Recently I relented and started to visit, partaking in a beer or two. Normally I drink only one pint at a time. On Friday 23rd October I purchased two pints of Guinness, drinking one. Today I called in for the other pint. I socialised with Mark and attempted small talk. One way of course. On leaving, Mark challenged me, in front of other guests, that I had not paid for my drink. THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL EVER SET FOOT IN THIS PUB, EVER AGAIN. GOOD RIDDANCE.

We have visited the Kings Arms on six or seven occasions and always found the food good and the staff helpful. We have recommended it to friends and family. However, last weekend we went for Sunday lunch and, although the roast meals were up to their usual standard and the raised pies were lovely, the service was very slow even though there was hardly anyone in the dining room. We were also disappointed by the reaction to a complaint: my daughter ordered the burger, which was very dry and she found it inedible. When we asked for it to be taken off the bill the manager was very defensive and the best he was prepared to offer was to charge us for a child's portion. Sadly we are unlikely to return.

I love this pub, it's everything a pub should be. Open fires in the winter, outside seating in the summer, decent beers and proper, tasty pub grub. The owners are fabulous and friendly and there is a snug area to chat to the locals. A great pub should be like a home from home which this place is. It has an inexpensive but very tasty menu which keeps everyone happy from grannies to little kids.My only suggestion is to get a sparkling IPA on tap, then I'd be here far too much for my own good!

A walk to Scalford from Melton Country park with the family on a lovely sunny Sunday resulted in us stopping at the Kings Arms at Salford. Arriving shortly before 12.15pm we ordered some drinks at the bar. We asked if we could order food and were promptly told not until 12.30pm. We asked for menus and were told they'd be brought to us. We sat outside and patiently waited for the menus! Eventually one of my Son's went in to re-order further drinks and appeared with the menus. We chose our food and again waited for the waitress to take our order. When she finally appeared we were told that we couldn't order as they were waiting for a party of 13 to arrive (not there yet)!!xx and order their food and we'd have a wait of 45 mins. Resigning ourselves to this we were shocked to then be told we couldn't order food. Shocked, annoyed and somewhat hungry we drank up and left. Impossible to comment upon the quality of the food as we never got to sample it!. Next time we go walking we'll take a picnic!

We telephoned quite late on Sunday morning to reserve a table for 5 for 1pm. On entering we ordered a drink each and it was added to our table. When the waitress arrived at our table firstly my husband asked what the soup of the day was she replied I don’t know .....I then asked what the crumble of the day was she also replied I don’t know ....with no offer of actually finding out and letting us know which we thought rather strange! My husband had the mysterious soup anyway which turned out to be tomatoe . 4 of us chose the 2 course option, either a starter and main or starter and pudding. The roast beef Sunday dinner was absolutely fantastic , huge portions and beautifully cooked. My husband had opted for the gammon and chose sweet potato fries as a substitute to normal fries . When the main meals arrived there were normal fries on his plate , when he questioned this he was told by the waitress that they didn’t have any.....surely this should have been communicated either at point of ordering not just allowing the meal to arrive with the incorrect item! The quality of the meal was very good indeed but we felt a little more attention to detail was required.

There were two groups in all but I feel it only fair if I report on my group’s experience at the King’s Arms. We arrived at 6:25 and told we were too early. I went to the bar to order a drink for my wife and myself- a coke and an orange and soda. I waited ( with the other group members) to be served . Was with a group of about 24 people who had pre-ordered 'tea' for about 6.30pm on Sat 28th Oct. We were given one oval platter of sandwiches supposedly enough for 10 people. It worked out to 2 slices of bread per person with quite meagre/ordinary fillings. We asked if there was any other food provided:crisps, cakes, biscuits etc but was told there was only tea or coffee. This was not satisfactory at all. We were charged £5.95 per head. Frankly it was a rip-off. This group of people have met up before many times and usually arrange for a light meal or high tea to be provided by a local pub. This is the first time we have been so disappointed. Despite having raved about the traditional roast in my 2012 review, I couldn't resist a pie on our recent lunch there.I love pie, but rarely order one, because I'm never sure that the meat will have been trimmed as well as I would at home. I was confident that it would be good at the Kings Arms and I wasn't disappointed. Crisp pastry and lots of lean, tasty filling. And as always served with lots of fresh vegetables, and a little jug of gravy. The only downside was that there was no way I could manage one of their lovely puddings.Looking forward to the next time....

This Mothers Days was a special one as it also was my fathers 70th birthday, so we chose this highly rated local pub. What a absolute disgrace! I ordered the deliciously sounding Traditional Vegetarian Roast, served with home Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and vegetables - £11.00. But when it turned up its was literally roast spuds and a Yorkshire! In 2016 I think the rest of the world has caught up and has a vege option. To simply take the meat off and say its a Vege Roast is really poor.I asked a waiter if I could order another main - he said he'd have to charge me very rudely. I asked for a courgette crumble that also featured, but was told no. After much going backwards and forwards to the chef, after refusing to serve anything more, they agreed to give me a starter at my cost. That was fine, They suggested a cheese souffle and after a long wait (when everyone else had eaten their clearly not homecooked meals), I tucked in. Only when I got half way through, did I realise they had actually served me a bacon souffle!!! I was nearly sick.I asked to see the manager/chef - but he refused. They initially said I wouldnt have to pay for my meal! I said that wasnt good enough and we were offered free deserts. The other meals were fatty and poor - no apple sauce or stuffing as stated and the veg watery and out of a freezer. Really do not go here - looks nice, but the food is terrible and the customer service non existent.

Daughter & Fiancee held a gathering of approx 60 family and friends. What an evening. Mark put on a brilliant buffet and his bar staff provided an excellent bar service, I feel sure everyone enjoyed...Would certainly hold another party here.

Popped in for a drink with friends, but this time not to have a meal. But, the georgeous smell of home cooking succumbed us into having one of the best meals ever! Curtious staff, and very reasonable priced.

Impromptu meal for an early evening meal for a 4 generation family celebration. Disappointed overall as the soufflé and braised beef rib were luke warm the vegetarian was cold (reheated when requested) and the bread was dry on the outside. Service was good but many first choices were not available even though we were there at 6.30. Some of the portions were less than expected for the price.

The Kings Arms is a great village pub offering a cosey pint, a nice sunny beer garden stop off or a tasty choice of food. We recently moved to Scalford and are really pleased to have such a great local. The staff are great offering friendly and attentive service and the food is just as good.Unfortunately I cant stop having pies when I go so cannot comment of the full menu range but the pies are exceptional!!Generous portion sizes and well presented with Chips and Gravy and a bowl of vegetables.I'll definitely be re-visiting for food and drinks with as many friends and family as I can.I've taken the work team here too and our large group were well catered for (I'll try and get their reviews on here too). Thanks all we'll see you soon :)

Recently stayed in Melton Mowbray and spotted this pub when passing through Scalford. Went back in the evening for the "fish and chip night" which is every first Tuesday of the month. What a treat, freshly cooked fish to order with peas ( garden or mushy), chips AND bread & butter thrown in. Excellent value at £7.95. Good beer and wine. Wish we lived near so we could go again. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Have eaten here many times before and have always had wonderful meals so thought we'd treat ourselves to a stay as we were going to a local party. Mark went out of his way to make us feel welcome, the room was beautifully decorated, comfy bed with gorgeous bedding and lots of biscuits..always a good sign! Breakfast was great...fab sausages, homemade bread for toast and lots of warm croissants and Danish pastries..I had two! Fresh orange juice and plenty of coffee....perfect! Would definitely stay again! Many thanks Mark and Mike!

The King’s Arms do fantastic pies, cooked to order so fresh and crisp pastry served very hot and with extremely hot chips and seasonal veg, plus extra gravy. However, you need to have a massive apatite to do justice to this main course. Consequently, we had no room left to try the desserts. Good service with a smile – thanks!

I often stay at this lovely pub when visiting friends nearby. The owner Mark is an attentive host and ensures his guests are welcomed and the rooms are always of a high standard. The Paddock room is my favourite with it's chic decor and stunningly comfortable bed. The breakfasts are hearty and shouldn't be missed for a tempting lie in.The food is never a disappointment and the young staff go the extra mile with service. You have to try the pies which are a unique treat and in truth ( my opinion) have no equal. In all, I have never had a bad experience and highly recommend Mark and his team.

A reasonably varied menu, but with a strong emphasis on their home-made pies. Which is fine, because they are excellent. Tasty starter of potted crab was notable for the absolutely fresh leaves which accompanied it , as were the peas and beans served with the main course. Service from the young staff was warm and friendly, and the wine list is affordably priced. The only small disappointment was the chips: nicely presented in a twist of paper in a bucket, to our minds they could have done with at least another five minutes in the beef dripping. Apart from this, very good: we’ll be back.

Stopped here as saw it had good reviews on TA.However, we should have known better when it was deserted upon arrival at about 12.15pm. Also, when my wife visited the WC, she witnessed the chef smoking outside in the patio area...at which point we really should have left. The food when it arrived - chicken, leek and ham & steak and ale pies were huge and served with a little metal (and rusty) bucket of chips and some garden peas. The steak and ale pie was a bit of a joke as it was dense with thick pastry and when it was cut into there was only one small piece of meat and the rest of the filling was thick gravy and onions/mushrooms. My wife's pie was slightly better but still encased in overly thick pastry and the chips were hard in the middle. When we brought the lack of meat issue to the attention of the waitress, she said she would inform the chef but that all the pies wee handmade. The chef said all the fillings were measured but no discount was offered. With drinks and a dessert each the bill came to £28. There was little in the way of atmosphere and for a warm day it was fairly cold inside. We could have done so much better by going elsewhere and would not return.

Visited this country pub at lunchtime today for an impromptu lunch with our sons family. I have to say that we were delighted with the quality of the food served to us. The interior of the premises is charming. Starters chosen by us were the fried squid and the souflle both of which were excellent. We all then chose from the selection of home made pies, which again were excellent. Our granddaughter enjoyed the butternut and carraway soup. The service was good and we will return in the not to distant future

Staying at Scalford hall we needed somewhere good for an evening meal with friends. The King Arms is a perfect 'gastro pub'. The menu is short and the food, obviously fresh and local, takes an encouraging time to prepare. Now, there are pies and pies! We have all had the ubiquitous 'steak and ale' creations which consist of a ladle of stew with a micro-waved bit of puff pastry nestling on top! Here you get the real thing; an individual, proper whole real pastry enclosed delight! With your own special miniature gravy boat. 'Al dente' vegetables. Reasonable wine list, good local beers, and the head waiter Dominic organises impeccable service. We will return.... If only they accepted Amex!

Call me a leprechaun and get me a pot because ive found gold. What a pub! Every village pub has its uniquity but this one has knocked them out the park. Inside a stunning building is one of the friendliest places ive been to. The staff (Chloe in particular) were so welcoming they made mother Teresa look like Pol Pot. I have no doubt this pub has been around for 2 millenia, because if jesus was to have a ‘last supper’ it mustve been here. The chefs worked a miracle in that kitchen. If my girlfriend wasnt there to tell me off for bad manners i wouldve licked the plate clean. Every local to Waltham on the Wolds should feel privileged to have this at your doorstep. Bloody brilliant

A lovely meal, the staff were all so friendly, nothing is too much trouble, food was good too, would love to see some specials available to keep the menu varied as some times need a change, otherwise all great, love the new refurbishment too, highly recommend

I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.

Super busy for Saturday lunch. They were a bit understaffed, but super efficient and motivated. Lovely food, great atmosphere and although we are not local, our 5 visits have all been very enjoyable.
