Was visiting friends in the area and they recommended this local pub. Was the perfect choice for party of 5. Nice, small pub atmosphere run by lovely family. Food was delicious. (I had cottage pie - perfect. They also had vegetarian cottage pie.) and nice beers. There was a local competition of skittles (like bowling) in the side room and made it fun to watch it on the TVs while we drank at the bar and chatted. Was a great experience, highly recommnded and worth the visit!

We went as a group of 8 and called ahead to make sure there was space, they had a table ready for when we arrived. The food and drinks were excellent but especially the sauces in the mushroom pasta and the chicken with black pepper and bacon! The proportions were incredible for the price and I will definitely be recommending to anyone who stays nearby.

Great village pub, warm welcome from barman, lovely log fire in the wood burner. Choice of white wine and a couple of good real ales. We thought the start of chicken goujons was delicious. My wife had the minute steak with eggs & hash browns, which is a little unusual and was excellent. I had a lovely Thai Green Curry, which came with warm and tasty prawn crackers. The Apple Pie & Custard was great to finish the meal on. Note that vegetarians, vegans and other food intolerances are catered for. Although the pub has limited parking suggest it is well worth finding a place to park given the quality of the food & beer.

Amazing food. We ordered starters only, as we arrived late, just before the kitchen closed. I thoroughly recommend the battered prawns and wife's mushrooms. I can't emphasise how good the food is. The ales are limited but that's not a criticism it shows a good control of stock. My only niggle and its really, really small is it would be nice to have some background music.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends. Very welcoming and friendly pub . Nice outside area which was busy on the sunny day we visited. Good food. Never had roast pork like it. Loads of flavour. Great homemade puddings as well. Will be visiting again soon.

We stopped here for Sunday lunch - what a revelation. Apparently, it's just been taken over by new publicans and they've already begun making their mark on the place; I can't comment on the changes as this was our first visit (but certainly not the last). The Sunday lunch menu was plentiful but not too many options (don't give me too much choice as I can never make up my mind 😊), there were sufficient options to satisfy most diets and appetites and as the food was locally sourced and cooked to order, I'm sure that they would be able to cater to most needs. The pork and the beef roast lunches were delicious with plenty of meat and a generous selection of veg (everything was plated in the kitchen and brought to the table). The parfait and the sticky toffee pudding must be the stuff of legend - worth every calorie laden spoonful – one of those “lick the plate” moments. The evening menu looked delicious with several options that made me want to plan the next excuse to pass this way. Health & Safety was well managed with loads of room between tables, ventilation, sanitation stations and all the paraphernalia that we've come to expect. We felt completely safe and it was a real pleasure to enjoy a meal out with friends where the protection was there but was discreet. I’m glad we found this pub, if you drive slowly through Wanstrow so that you don’t miss it, you too will be rewarded with a proper, genuine pub atmosphere, good beer and delicious food. Certainly worth a detour!

And you'll be so glad you came. Wow, what a find! Off the beaten track, but a lovely little pub that looks like it's had a bit of a makeover, and a truly wonderful selection of beers and ciders to boot. I only meant to stop in for one for or two with the wife, but while the kids were entertained with the skittles alley (and it even has a TV of the skittle alley) I got chatting to the landlady and her portly husband and ended up leaving at closing time! The roast was lovely, but you'd really be coming here for the beers and the wonderful atmosphere. This place would have more people here if it wasn't so busy!

Been to this pub a few times over the year, when it was "The Pub". Surprised to see so few customers on a Friday lunchtime. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced; we had fish and chips and didn't expect much for £9.25; yet we had large pieces of tasty fish, not the oft encountered tasteless over-frozen junk that frequently appears .... decent chips too. Cider, real and excellent, and extremely fairly priced at £2.20 a pint. We're not keen on music in pubs, and this was loud enough to be a little intrusive. The "restoration" appears to us somewhat misguided; far too open plan, and the new furniture is cafe style; it just lacks character and ambience. A friendly welcome helped; and the pub deserves to do well given that and the quality and price of what they have to offer. 4 instead of 5 stars simply because of lack of character; if you like modern open plan interiors, then it's 5 stars.

We were passing this pub on Sunday, and called in on the off chance of having space for a roast. It was jam packed, but they went out of their way to fit us in. Best Sunday Lunch out I've had for a while, generous portions/Great value. Will certainly return again.

We have two family birthdays in January and often struggle to find a way of celebrating them across three generations. Well today The King William lV at Wanstrow proved to be the ideal venue. We were given the skittle alley free of charge and provided with a lovely buffet. There was plenty of excellent food, presented beautifully with plenty of veggie options too. It was extremely good value for money. The skittles kept children and adults occupied and brought out the competitive side of several members of the family. It was a pleasure to meet Sharon who has recently taken on the pub and made a lot of improvements. Thank you Sharon and team for a lovely day. We are going to make this an annual event.

Absolutely wonderful Christmas dinner. Excellent service - warm and welcoming. I'm gluten-free and it's bar far the most accomodating pub I've been to near Frome. Delicious food, good portions and made such an effort to give gluten-free options such as mince pies or stuffing rather than just missing them off my plate which many other places have done. Highly recommend and will certainly go back. Thankyou!

Whenever we visit Glastonbury a visit to Pie and Tart at the end of the Gauntlet is a must. So much choice of cakes and savouries and Mandy's baking is to die for. Ask about dietary issues and food intolerances, you may be surprised what she can cater for. 10/10.
