Lively pub, cheap drinks, friendly staff, good atmosphere.

Whilst staying in Totnes in our motorhome we visited the king William pub what can I say lovely food I had sausage and mash proper food and more than enough, proper home cooked food what a refreshing change, would definitely come again when in Totnes.

Lovely small pub with great atmosphere. Food is superb, highly recommend the steak pie! Will definitely come back again in the future. Service was prompt and friendly too

This is a proper pub. If you want fluffy namby pamby exaggerated childs portions dont come here.

Another much changed pub since our pre Covid visit. Good pint of Jail and reliable Thatchers Gold. A mix of customers including some rival landlords from other pubs... The prime seats are now on the raised dias next the curved window to watch the town walk passed. They also have a decent menu with a small kitchen turning out cooked to order food.

Excellent food! Best burger I've eaten in a long time, so succulent and extremely tasty! We are currently on holiday here and will return on our next visit!

Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. Very friendly and helpful staff. Gets very busy so be prepared to have a little wait but it's worth it.

Popped in today for an impromptu lunch while in town and what a lovely lunch it was. Firstly the beer (Jail in my case) was fresh from well cleaned pipes and reasonably priced too. My wife had a Sauvignon blanc which was crisp and citrusy. I had a cheeseburger on a brioche roll with the burger supplied by the local butcher and my wife had a baked ham baguette both of which were perfect. Can't praise the bar staff enough as they were very welcoming, as were the locals. We will certainly make the trip from Torquay more often!

Stayed at the inn here, room was lovely, clean, and had mix of coffee and teas. Easy access after the pub had closed, really friendly staff and good breakfast in the morning. Would visit again.

Food and drink fine but very very loud people.

I occasionally pop by to check out the live music on a Saturday which can be very mixed. The clientele appears a little too lost in their cups to really appreciate the bands, with only a handful of exceptions.

We were visiting Totnes and popped in for food and drink. It was very busy but we managed to get a table and staff were welcoming. We had two different meals for lunch and really enjoyed the food which was reasonably priced. We love dogs and thought it was great that it was dog friendly. However I did witness the manager (I think) feed a treat to a dog and then went straight back behind the bar and serve customers neglecting to wash his hands. I'm sure it was an oversight but I think if you welcome dogs and feed/fuss them then you need to ensure you wash your hands before serving drinks etc.

Been to Totnes many times but 1st visit to the King William, so so busy which is an excellent sign of a good pub Had burgers which were absolutely fabulous, so tasty & so nicely presented 👍 very friendly place with a very welcoming smile & service from a delightful barman - definitely recommend this lovely place 💯.%

We visited The King William IV today specifically for Sunday Roast. The meal was absolutely spot on, ample portion size and great value for money. I have had a few Sunday Roasts out in my time & can be quite critical, particularly with regards to the vegetables and gravy. Plenty of both, with an extra gravy pot too :-) The pub intself is a traditional type, nothing fancy, but given how busy it was with locals, it must be known in the community as the go to place! Great service, fantastic food and friendly staff. What more could you want? Oh and it's dog friendly, with our two being greeted with a little snack before we started!

One of the best pubs iv visited ! Bar staff amazing ! Cute and cosy , food was fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect 👌 Will be coming back to stay in their rooms for the weekend. Perfect location...couldnt be any better !

Excellent Sunday roast costing £10.95 which was regular size and there is option for large. I struggled to finish my small portion. Very friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Chatty pub with nice background hum of conversation... well managed by mostly affable staff... This doesn't affect anything , I know , but the interior could do with cheering up...reds and warm colours.....

Called in for a drink, barman was friendly and chatty. The pub was very pleasant, very clean and tidy. The chairs were comfortable. Good selection of drinks, including cocktails and lots of gins. This place offers accommodation and food too, though we didn't try these.

✨️We usually stop here for drinks sometimes food on a day trip to Totnes! Get in early as can be very busy during lunchtime. Great service, great range of food, the portions of food are huge ! And good choice of ciders. A great pub 👌 🍺🍲

Great pub. Good food that was exactly what I wanted and the beer, Proper Job, was excellent. £5 pp. Don't be put off by reserved tables as the guvnor will sort something out for you. There's an extended happy hour from 3pm.

Overall a pretty ok place to stay. Not the best in the world, and they didnt give me a room with a bath like I requsted in the booking form (do to my limited mobility). And the live music in the evening was a little loud, the floor was vibrating in my room upstairs! Could only just hear the TV over it. But it stopped at 11pm when the pub closed anyway so it wasnt too bad. Otherthan that, very nice.

Beast breackfast in England so far. Everything was perfect in this quaint proper English pub. Loved it and we recommend it.

Having booked a round Robin trip from dartmouth, as part of the trip, we stopped in Totnes and decided to have a drink and some food. This pub looked inviting and busy, so we ordered a Beef Lasagne with garlic bread and a beef roast dinner. What a mistake, the beef lasagne was the worst I had EVER tasted, bland and not much filling although in fairness there was a ton of cheese on top (probably to hide the lack of food underneath). The roast dinner was bland but loads of food (the wife said). Sadly we will not be returning, I would have given 1 star, but the ambience and drinks were quite nice.

Not for us, I'm afraid. Rather run down, no sparkling water, my lager tasted like the pipes hadn't been cleaned in a while. Won't be visiting again.

Today was my birthday as we were spending the day together me, mom, nan and grandad visting Totnes. When we got there, we decided to have a spot of lunch somewhere before spending our time doing some shopping afterwards. The King William IV are a family run, town centre pub with kitchen and rooms. The pub offered brunch, lunch and evening service as well as special menu. Along with being dog friendly, that means anyone can bring in their dog with them. When the four of us enter inside this establishment, there was a warm and welcoming feeling in the air. We went up to the bar where we were served by a male staff member, who ask us how many are there so he could find a table for us. So we wanted a tabof four, and ask if we could sit at a sudden one, which the man allowed us to. When all four of us took a seat at the table, we look at the menus provided for us. This pub has a great selection of food and drink, with a reasonable price. So I decide to order a glass of J2O orange and passion fruit drink, along with ordering the chili dish for my main meal. I can tell from looking around the place with my own two eyes, that it is a nice and relaxing atmosphere. After a moment or two of waiting for our order, it finally came. You can see from the photo I took of my meal down below, that a nice and generous portion was provided for me. The meal contains some warm beef bean, served with rice & nachos. After finishing the chili and siping down my drink, I can tell you that it was a lovely meal to have. Words that describe this meal is delicious, piping hot and well presented. Really good value for money of what we were served to us today. All of the staff were polite, helpful and very friendly to us. They did a great service doing our time there, making us four feel very welcome. Definitely would come here again in the future and would recommend it to anyone who visit Totnes.

Only ever stopped for drinks before, so tonight we had a roast and a kedgeree, really enjoyed both, good size portions and really good food. Will return.

Passing by on Fathers Day, with the Euros as well on we thought no chance but they fit us in. Excellent vegan options: Fajitas, Nut Roast, Burger, Bean Chilli & more Staff very friendly 😊 Parents enjoyed their meat roast too!

We have heard how good this pub is for a while & finally tried it. We were not disappointed. We were seated near some regulars who had come from Brixham, they had been coming for years! The food was excellent, plenty on the plate, well cooked, with plenty of veg & extra gravy for the roast. A good selection on the menu, a well stocked bar with good ales. Highly recommend this pub, in fact we are meeting friends soon from Newton Abbott.

This place is great! The food is good, lots of choice, comes quickly and is very reasonably priced. We ate there twice on our stay and to get a roast dinner if you want, any day of the week is great!! But above all, the staff are very friendly and balance between tourists and locals perfectly and we felt so welcome both times. Highly recommend it!

This place felt like a real find on a rainy Spring day in Totnes. Not exactly high end food, but decent portions, a variety of offerings at decent prices. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good beer. Overall I'd highly recommend.

We stayed here for 4 night while walking in the area with some friends. Unfortunately they don't serve breakfast until 10am, a bit late for us. The pub was lovely, very friendly, good atmosphere and delicious food. The rooms were a little dated, but fine for our needs. Would have been nice to be asked if everything was OK with our rooms, and if we'd had a nice time when we were leaving!

Only dropped in for a drink whilst my wife and daughter were shopping in Totnes. A nice pint of Jail Ale. Friendly staff. An area of the bar has a large display of Beryl Cook prints on the walls.

What a gem. After walking out of two cafes that couldn't provide us with lunch because they've ran out of gluten-free bread or jacket potatoes, we saw the tasty looking menu outside and walked in. Greeted by a friendly bar man who provided a table, and we ended up having an absolutely delicious meal!! Really generous portions, and we didn't have to wait too long either. Best beef chilli I've eaten in a long time, and mother said it was the best kedgeree she's ever eaten. Very glad to stumble across this pub. Will be back when next in the area.

Centrally located, this pub is lovely, and has a great selection of drinks and, in my view, a great menu. I had the ‘small’ choice of roast dinner, and it was delicious and a very generous portion. My husband really enjoyed his fish selection as well. We had beer and wine, which was also excellent. The service was efficient and welcoming, and we had a wonderful time. I would wholeheartedly recommend this pub.

Amazing place in Totnes for a roast dinner. We go at least once a month and it’s brilliant. Great staff, nice atmosphere and a fair price! If you’re looking for somewhere in Totnes for great food, music and even a place to stay you need to visit The King William!

Nice place, friendly atmosphere, excellent kedgeree. Arrive hungry as it's huge! Of the four meals we had in Totnes this was by far the best. White wine offering was disappointing, but Jail beer was good.

Excellent steaks cook it yourself on a hot stone. Lovely roast with fresh vegetables. Friendly people and reasonably priced. We go there to eat very often, worth the drive from Torquay. Best place we have found in the area.

Myself and 3 friends arrived at lunchtime for a beer but after looking at the menu we decided to stay and have a meal, I had the steak pie and mash and two friends had roast pork and another friend had steak pie and chips, the food was absolutely gorgeous, the service was excellent, we were really looked after so we shall go there the next time we visit Totnes.

Again the food is excellent one fishermen’s pie and a chicken salad wow . Great value for money and the best ingredients make for the very best meal . Well done . Love it

A buzzing town pub with great service and a great menu of fabulous choices. I had fish pie which was full of fish and prawns and a lovely cheesy mash topping the best I have had in a long time 😍 the fajitas were also extremely tasty and all just great 👍

Ordered a ham and mustard baguette and 2 portions of whitebait with some sharing chips. Food was fantastic, well served and quick. Pleasant environment with good staff service. A comfortable environment to enjoy lunch. Very reasonably priced.

I've read the reviews. 'The best steak pie I've ever had'. So I had to experience it for myself. Well........ It really was the most tasty steak pie I've ever had! If I like my food then I usually scoff it down but I literally savoured every mouthful of this fantastic generous portion of taste sensation! And it wasn't even expensive. Great traditional pub with an absolute hidden gem of a steak pie!

The pub is in a great location, bar staff great, food delicious, the pub has been refurbished & looks great but oh dear they have certainly forgotten about the accommodation upstairs. Thick cobwebs around the walls, no bin to put used teabags etc, hot tap had to be left running for ten minutes before the water got hot. What passed for a clothes rail was rickety & in an awkward position. Very noisy downstairs from 7.00am & when we checked out & asked if we could leave our bags until later we were told no as the cellar was full. They begrudgingly let us leave them upstairs outside Room 1 but their attitude stunk. Won’t be returning to stay & certainly would not recommend.
