I've been to the King and Queen before and thought it was OK, bit after my last visit I will think twice about going back. I took my parents in to Hamble village for dinner, we decided to look around first to see what took our fancy, I walked up to the door of the king and queen to have a look and before I'd even got to the door a young waiter came out trying to get us in, not very classy, a bit like a cheap Spanish resort mentality, I explained that we were going to have a look around which he obviously wasn't impressed with. Anyway, we returned as it was a quiet Monday night in the village and there was a few people in there. Upon entering the same young waiter held the door open, my parents walked in but he let the door go on me as I walked in, very rude. We sat down and were served drinks, he then came over to take our food order, not a smile in sight, he asked us "do you have any allergies" and I jokingly said "paying the bill" with a smile, he just looked at me and walked away! we were left gobsmacked at the rudeness of this young man, my parents described him as arrogant. When our food arrived he asked "is there any sauces I can get for you" I said "do have any mustard', he looked straight at me and said "I don't think I do" and just stood there, how can a restaurant not have mustard,? how can a kitchen not have mustard? he just couldn't be bothered, to say this guy has a bad attitude is an understatement! The burger was under seasoned and bland, which added to the disappointment of our experience. What a shame the the place that my parents love eating in when visiting me has been ruined by the attitude of a trumped up kid with a bad attitude, neither myself or my parents will return.

We arrived 15minutes early and were seated straight away. Within 30 seconds after sitting down, we were asked for our drink orders. So we asked for a few minutes to read the drinks menu, to which the waitress' gave us a very judgemental look. We then weren't spoken to for 20minutes. Once the waiter realized we didn't have drinks, he then asked us 'Iassume you don't want any drinks?'. We cleared up this confusion and later got our drinks, to then wait another 25minutes for someone to ask for our food orders. Instead of managing the customers expectations and advising what was not available, they waited for us to ask for food, to then tell us they didn't have any (of what we ordered). The food came and was absolutely remarkable, hats off to the chef 🤌🏻 Yorkshires were incredible. Mid-way through our dinner however, one of the chairs was ripped away by one of the staff members for another table. But without any courtesy to ask if we were using it or to check if any of our things were on the chair. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Once the dishes were cleared, we yet again waited an extortionate amount of time to be able to order dessert. But to top it all off, they allowed us to order desserts and wait 45minutes for a crumble and some sorbet. To which the crumble was out of stock (they later told us this after asking where our desserts were) and they brought out a completely different sorbet to what we had ordered. The organization was abysmal, the service was sub-par at best with the rather judgemental conversations and the only people who seemed to know what they were doing, were the chef and who seemed to be the land-lady that came over to apologize for our experience at the end of the meal. Please manage your customers expectations asap and please have the manners and courtesy to know when your customers aren't enjoying their visit. No awareness of others at all.

Heard a lot about this place but overall, quite disappointed. The menu was restricted, “due to being quieter?” So no chicken or fish and chips available. I chose the Steak and Stilton pie.(wouldn’t have done normally)Looked nice, tasty but the meat was very tough , and no extra gravy, so the mash and veg a bit boring. Not really on, considering the price. Not impressed with the toilets either. On the whole, although clean , appeared run down and in need of a coat of paint.

Went in to the pub for a drink after a few hours sail, hoping to get a couple of drinks. To start the bad experience we weren’t allowed to go to the bar to order, we had to be seated and couldn’t look at what drinks were at the bar. My mate was talking to me about getting a Guinness, this turned up before we had actually ordered. I eventually got a drinks menu, and decided to have a stowfords red berries, how you can mess up a cider so much I have no idea. It took them about 5mins to pour it, and it was so bad and acidic that I now feel sick. I couldn’t finish it with the acidic taste. When it came to the bill the Guinness cost over £7 and I had to insist I wasn’t paying for the cider that was undrinkable. The atmosphere was very uncomfortable and the staff obviously didn’t want to be there and were very blunt. I’d like to review the service but for a pub that is table service only I wouldn’t say there was any as I had to stop a member of staff to actually get my drink. Once we had paid we quickly left as the staff made the experience so uncomfortable. I would never go back.

Loved this beautiful old pub awash with sea faring history . It has table service for drinks . Visited on a frosty winter night and the service was warm and welcoming . The menu is extensive and lots of rum varieties on offer , great drinks menu . The staff are friendly and polite , great service . We ate a lovely burger and pork belly which was luscious . Shared an apple crumble . A nice Woodford reserve whiskey and Guinness to wash it down with . I would love to visit again in the summer to see lovely Hamble alive with throngs of visitors and the summer menu , we both loved it .

Stopped at the King and Queen for drinks on a visit to Hamble, but very confused about what the venue is. Is it a pub or a restaurant? Lovely ambience inside, however it seems like they are still stuck in Covid rules and are too scared to move back to reality post Covid. As soon as you enter you are ‘pounced’ upon by staff to seat you even if you just want drinks. The table service only means you are unable to approach the bar which when looking for real ales can sometimes be difficult as you want to be able to see what is on offer. By removing all of the paraphernalia in front of the bar and re instating some bar stools the place would benefit from having a ‘Rum Pub’ atmosphere as it is misleading as to what it is. Great choice of rum, but severely missing pub bit. Toilets are in an awful state and definitely need some money spent on them to bring them up to an acceptable standard Grate shame it could be a fantastic ‘Rum Pub’ and live up to its name.

Never been to the area but came down for my dad’s birthday, however: We walked in as a table of 16 and all got served quickly with drinks despite not booking. The staff were lovely, showing perfect service. Rebecca especially showed so much hospitality despite our late turn up and lack of booking. The food was incredibly, every dish came out promptly and cooked perfectly. I had a burger that was both juicy and delicious, the sides were the exact size to fill me up. While we ate a live guitarist played us music which only added to the atmosphere. What an incredible pub. If you are ever in the area, DO NOT miss coming into the King and Queen Pub. You will not regret it. Credit to all bar staff, servers and chefs for a phenomenal experience. I can not wait till I’m next in the area.

Fantastic floor team here — service was prompt and consistent. True to name, a great selection of rums as well. Food selection is overall good and the food itself is good too. A tad on the pricey side, so it’s great if you’re after a proper family meal or a couples’ dinner, but there are cheaper places if you’re looking for something less formal/just drinks. That being said, the garden, pub and service team are great, so the price doesn’t detract from the overall recommendation!

I visited the king and queen with a friend and her older dog. The dog is a saluki lurcher cross. It was late and the pub was quiet. The dog was wandering around the bar when the FOH burst in through the door and knocked the dog so hard that she slid across the floor and banged into the bar. I understand that this was an accident but the FOH did not choose to apologise. He did not check that the dog was ok. My friend challenged him and he was monosyllabic. It was not a good experience

Venue is nice with a lovely garden and has the potential for a lovely family experience. But sadly our experience was ruined by feeling very disappointed and cheated by the underhand pricing. Menu prices DO NOT include VAT but no where does it make this clear. It is added to your bill at the end. VAT is also added to the additional service charge - which I’m pretty sure is illegal. The food was ok but not at all worth the final price we were charged. Also beware of drink pricing, it was cheaper to buy two individual glasses of wine than it was a carafe. When pointed out to the staff they ignored the comment and still charged us the higher price.

Came in on Tuesday 9th July. Lovely food and lovely front of house team. The venue is beautiful with lovely painting and photos of the boats arround Hamble placed all over the interior. I was saddened to see the lady behind the bar shouting in quite and aggressive tone to what looked like quite a young waiter. Whilst I miss the old pub which was always buzzy and lively, I was happy to eat here having had a lovely roast a year or so ago. Sadly we were left disappointed. For starters we had mixed Taco's, the steak was very chewy and the haloumi was uncooked which was odd. On the positive side the burger and chips that a couple of our group had for their main was delicious. I had the goat curry on the basis it was an unusual choice so was bound to be good, sadly not. Another vegetarian guest had the tagine which she left as was simply tasteless. I was surprised that the staff didn't ask us if we enjoyed the meal particularly as we left most of it, maybe they knew the answer! I am guessing and hoping the chef was having an off night although having spent over £200 I am not sure I will be giving him another opportunity.

Booked because of a recommended (by one of our party) very good menu - but apparently not on a Tuesday ! The advertised menu was not available, but this was not mentioned when placing the booking, and what was offered I could get from the local chip shop for a 1/4 the price, and then the six menu items that were offered on the reduced menu, reduced to just four: fish & chips, a chicken burger, a hamburger or a pie. Nothing remotely a la carte or prepared by an experienced chef. The (employed) staff were extremely embarrassed, but the owner simply slid away and let her staff take the disappointment and voice endless apologies. Not a word from the landlady, even though she was present. This place calls itself the Rum Pub - but it is no longer a Pub by the traditional English definition and now it is now no longer a restaurant either. This experience completely ruined my friend's birthday surprise evening and would have been better had they simply advised they were closed on a Tuesday, rather than offer a third rate menu at ludicrous a la carte prices. No one ended up eating anything, so we all went home very hungry. Will not be back until the place returns to being a Pub.

As we were nearly finished a member of staff asked if we’d like anything else, we said just the bill please. We’d had a pint of beer and a soft drink. Without looking at the bill, my partner handed over a £20 note and was asked “do you want any change?” He asked how much was the bill, “£10” came the reply. He said “I gave you £20, so yes I do.” Quite bizarre. The steak was lovely as was the chicken shawarma with nice salad, a good pitta bread, and lovely, good quality, seasoned chicken. The halloumi fries were the best! Definitely recommend these: so fresh, juicy, and tasty! However the jacket potato with chilli (only available at lunch time) was not much to get excited about, the chilli was not great and it felt a rip off at over £9!! Nothing was even served alongside it, definitely avoid that! The bill was quite hefty so do keep that in mind. Overall a tasty, decent, good meal, recommend if you’re in the area just make sure not to get any jacket potatoes!

Upon arrival we were met by a chap who had no interest in making us feel welcome after learning we didn’t have a booking, seemed he didn’t want us to come in and have another table to serve / clear. Apparently they were fully booked (garden was empty) and so we chose to just have drinks. We had roughly 4 over the space of 1 1/2 hours. In which time only 3 tables became occupied. We could have eaten and spent more money. The young servers were lovely, sadly the older chap who first greeted us spoiled our visit. Won’t be back in a hurry unless the “bouncer” on the door isn’t there.

Really good food, the oooonly thing I could nick pick at was the main roast dinner was brought out, and then 5 minutes later the veg was which was a tad slow but then we were a table of 8 people so can't grumble too much as it was a little busy. All in all a very nice pub/restaurant, would definately come here again.

If your looking for a foodie pub then look no further. The baby squid with a light crisp batter was a perfect halfway point to tempura. A mountain of succulent Beef ticked all the boxes. Relaxing garden atmosphere with attentive staff (in our case Joe) will cater to all your needs with a seamless supply of drinks.

Very nice garden and atmosphere there. Maybe it's only low because they close when they close. People could stay there 4ever :)

Went for their pizza night. Lovely pizza, cooked fresh to order in their outside stone oven. The garden had a cosy atmosphere and staff very kind and responsive. Would go again when next in the area.

Sat outside in the front garden with friends, enjoyed a fabulous pint (or two) of London Pride, brilliant way to spend an afternoon.

I did not want to write a Tripadvisor review before firstly emailing the establishment to tell them of my experience at the King and Queen in Hamble, as I wanted to give them the chance to reply etc with what may have gone wrong for us. They did not reply. We had booked for the Sunday roast and pre-ordered beforehand. My husband and I picked the tomahawk steak roast For 2 people to share. The girl placed it down on the table, after us waiting a while for it to be cooked , which was fine. There was 1 roast potato and 4 balls of stuffing (paxo type) . The girl then bought over 2 small cold side plates and I asked her to bring larger plates , she did and they were cold so I asked for them to be warm and she then came back again with warmer larger plates, which was fine. We also had to ask for roast potatoes and they came later in a bowl, not the best. We had also ordered a side of chips , they came around 20 mins later and we refused them as was by then too late. We also had to ask for our gravy to be warmed up as this was tepid. No one came to ask if the meal was ok, but it was not acceptable, far from . There was only around 20% of the meat which was edible if that. We had to spit out most into a napkin as there as too much gristle and too chewy. We were so disappointed as had been told this was a nice place for roasts and namely pre-ordering a 'special meal' to share between two. Whoever cut the steak must have seen it was poor before it came out. My daughter also remarked later her chicken was cold but did not like to say anything as was so hungry. When the girl came to take the plates (with most of the food left) she did not ask if everything was ok which we were surprised about. We were meeting new family members for the first time and did not feel we wanted to complain but were also shocked at the lack of compassion by the staff for all the 'wrongs' but namely the tomahawk quality, which we paid I think £68 for! Also noted there was a substantial service charge added to the bill, which we reluctantly paid but did not feel was warranted. Its hard to make a complaint, as we did not want to ruin the day with bad feeling surrounding the meal. No one asked us though how anything was, which you'd expect when paying a lot of money. I’d have expected to hear back from the pub with an explanation and for them to offer some good will from this but have heard nothing.

A member of our group was severely allergic to eggs and nuts and after informing the staff of this and choosing from the allergy menu he ordered the fish and chips and was assured this would be in line with his dietary requirements. Shortly after returning home he had a serious allergic reaction, this couldn’t have been due to anything else as we did not eat hours before or after visiting the pub. The next day he went back to the venue and let them know what had happened for the safety of future customers. He was met with no remorse of any kind, let alone a refund. Wouldn’t recommend eating here if you have allergies!

Tiger prawns over priced and tiny portion. I hate to complain because I know how hard it is working in the chef industry, but I got 1 prawn with less then a handful of chips, the rest of the plate was filled with a whole lemon cut in half and grilled and rocket that was dry with no proper dressing just drizzled with a bit of balsamic (it's nice to have a slice of lemon but not a whole one, it just fills the plate making it look like a bigger dinner but you can't eat it) I was absolutely starving after, the kids had more food on their plate then I did and I ended up finishing all of theirs I was so hungry. It was just under £20 for my meal expensive for something that was starter size after taking off the rocket and lemon, also had to pay and extra £8odd on top service fee which I know is expected most places but not happy I had to pay it when I didn't get much of a meal. Saying that the table service and staff were lovely. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to say anything about the food because we were in a hurry to leave.

We stumbled across the King and Queen when pootling around the lanes of Bursledon and the Hamble recently on our way to the New Forest. We were looking for coffee but realising we were nearer to lunch and seeing the menu we chose the Sailor's sharing platter which was delicious and really kicked off our short break perfectly. We had our lovely old collie with us who got a lot of attention. The staff were so friendly and the outside canopies and planting felt like a secret garden, a real gem!

Steak night! I love this place. My parents lived nearby for several years so this became popular, I visited again with my brother last night. Food is great, Thursday was steak night and we had the Tomahawk to share. A great selection of beers, cider and wine before moving on to the rum! The staff are great and I look forward to going back. Adding an old fashioned to the menu would get it six stars.....

Disappointing experience at this location I normally really enjoy Kokoro — it’s one of my go-to spots, and I often order it to my house because I know the quality and portion sizes are usually great. Unfortunately, this visit to the Eastleigh branch didn’t reflect the standards I’m used to from the franchise. I ordered the sweet chilli chicken with rice in a large portion, but what I received looked more like a regular-sized bowl. It genuinely felt under-portioned for what I paid. It also seemed like they hadn’t prepared enough food in advance — it looked like they had to cook a fresh batch just to finish off my order, which sounds good in theory, but the final result wasn’t very hot or fresh-tasting. Compared to other branches like the one in Westquay or the Crawley location near Gatwick Airport, this one just didn’t stack up. Sadly, it’s not a store I’d be in a rush to revisit.

We’ve been ordering there for years and the service has always been great. However, this is the third time that our ‘mild’ dishes have been too spicy/hot to enjoy nor finish. So we’ll have to say goodbye for now.
