Great food, great atmosphere, fantastic staff

A evening out with friends to a Indian restaurant, a good menu the staff was very helpful as there was rush off there feet as there was lot of Christmas parties group in. The food was cook very well the down side was that we had to sit at three different tables in the end.

walked in,with 2 children, to enquire about the menu as there is nothing up outside. We were then rudely asked if it was for takeaway and then told "we don't do a kids menu (despite the fact we hadn't actually asked for one)Our children have been in countless curry houses and do not require a kids menu. It was very clear that they did not welcome children (even though the restaurant was, at this time, empty.would never return.

This place has been our favourite Indian for 16 years and the change of Owner has just made this place even better, We often have people visit us and they always want us to book again as they just love Purbani dishes!

One of the best dine-in Indians in the local area. The Purbani is fairly small and always busy, so it’s best to book or order takeaway. The menu has all of the typical classics, with a few regional dishes on the specials menu that are worth trying. The staff are pleasant and have been very accommodating when asked to make a dish less or more spicier than what’s on the menu.

Have been going for a while and every time the food is brilliant and the people working there are lovely! Really glad such a good restaurant is so close to my house

WOW 5***** If I could 10 stars I would Popped in for a curry visiting from Portsmouth. I had a butterfly prawn for starter , amazing biggest prawn I’ve ever seen & tasted amazing succulent. I had a combination of veg meals for the mains as I’m a veggie. The veg mains were amazing all fresh veg , no canned here. The service was excellent to. Portsmouth needs a curry house like this. 100 % recommended.

I went there for a meal last night with my friend. We were greeted and made to feel welcome. For my main course I had chicken madras, the sauce was very nice but the chicken was over cooked, it was hard as rock and generally not nice. Apart from that my experience was good but surly chicken is a basic for an Indian restaurant.

We have just had a delicious meal here! Warm and friendly staff made us very welcome.

Phoned order in and the collection service was excellent. It is my local and wouldn’t go any where else.

Our first visit to Purbani, Hedge End, whilst staying locally for personal reasons. We were attracted by the Summer Meal Deal offer, which sounded very good value, and we were not disappointed. The choice of dishes included in the deal was varied and the portions were full size. The flavour of the dishes was at the top end of the BIR range. Add to this the friendly, attentive, staff and the result was a most enjoyable evening. Thank you, Purbani.

Had another wonderful take out last night from Purbani Hedge End. Ordered by phone. All ready when I arrived as told. Polite courteous staff. Would recommend the ‘Footsteps’ Zinfandel Rosè... fabulous!! Thank you Purbani Hedge End.

We pop to the Purbani a couple of times a month usually with our friends and Arkan always finds us a table. Service & food is brilliant and we have the best time. Love the mixed kebab starter and all main courses I’ve tried are very tasty with just the right amount of spice, but the chef will always make hotter or milder for you just ask.

Contacted restaurant at 7pm and got a table despite them having a table for twenty booked in. The service was excellent and the manager and his colleague were very friendly. The food was delicious and tasty, value for money was great, only in the area for 2 days so won’t be returning but would highly recommend to anyone.

Wonderful evening with friends and great team at Purbani in Botley. They truly give a fabulous service and really look after you. The food was great and couldn’t fault anything.

So pleased we found this little gem whilst staying overnight at a hotel nearby. The food was great and if we come down to southampton again we will definitely call in again. The staff were very welcoming and it’s a very pleasant little restaurant.

Have had take aways many times over the years but not so much recently. However we had one recently and it was as good as ever. Not the cheapest but so good it is worth it.

We we staying at a generic chain hotel nearby and wanted a decent meal. This rated highly and I can see why. The food was tasty and well-prepared. Not greasy and onion baghi and poppadoms were crisp like they should be. The garlic chilli chicken was very tasty.

Always beautify cooked and tasty fast and friendly it's nice having them so close at hand wold recomend them to all friends x

I don’t normally write reviews but we such had a fantastic time at the Purbani this evening. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding and we felt so appreciated which is sometimes lacking at restaurants. The staff were really attentive and we would like to thank Mohammed, Imran and the team for making us feel so welcome. We’ll be back very soon.

We picked up a takeaway and were surprised and happy to find out we'd been given added extras with our food. The service was very friendly and was above expectations and the food was delicious! The interior has also been done up since our last visit so we will look forward to staying and having a meal inside the restaurant on our next visit.

Went to purbani in hedge end got there s bit early as later in the evening it gets crowded as usual the meal was of high quality like the service always spot in at this resteraunt never any complaints from us all the years we have been going

Great food, good sized portions, and attentive staff. My only complaint is most other people seemed to get a complimentary something (Bailey's?) and we didn't. There is a wide selection to choose from without their going overboard. My friend and I both had onion bhajis to start. I had garlic chilli chicken for my main, with pilau rice - delicious! I'm going there again in a couple weeks with a large group so hope it will be just as good then.

We’ve not used the Purbani in Hedge End so much since Abdul left! As the customer service and care left with him!

Went to this restaurant after loads of positive advice to try it. But I was absolutely gutted with the food. The chicken was so dry, it wasn’t pleasant. The starter was pleasant. Popadoms were good and the dips. But two main things bothered us. We felt watched while having dinner, waiting constantly walking past staring at us. It felt uncomfortable. By the worst bit was the value for money. The meal deal looked good but really wasn’t. Was charged nearly £4.45 for 4 popadoms, and nearly £6 for 2 pretty small naans. All together the meal deal was £10 each. But our bill with soft drinks was £43. Seemed so steep for what it was. I will I’m future be going to Jewels in West end where I’ve never had a bad meal.

I've lived in and around Hedge End for 30+ years and this had always been my local. It's changed over the years but it's current owners have surpassed other local establishments and offer great hospitality, consistently good food, and good service.

Good choice of dishes including balti and house specials; Cobra served in pints. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The style of food is different to other Indian restaurants - no bad thing, the difference is welcome - and I've enjoyed various dishes during different visits. Another advantage is relative ease of parking with a sliproad right outside.

The Purbani in Hedge End is only a small restaurant but the decor is very attractive and it is very clean and welcoming. The proprietor works extremely hard, but is very friendly and ensures that everyone gets served quickly and efficiently/. The menu is sufficiently varied to suit all palates from the hottest vindaloo to the mild korma and we feel their onion bhajis are the best -even beating the other Purbani in Botley (although we love it in there as well). Would thoroughly recommend a visit if you like this type of cuisine.

A plethora of truly excellent food served by some of the friendliest staff we have ever come across. Highlight aside from service was the king prawn rogan. Will definitely come again when in the area. Hearty thanks from the couple on Sunday night and glowing review as promised :)

We had a lamb rogan josh, lamb pathia, naan, onion Bajis and rice on the assumption that our teenagers would be out but ended up splitting a meal for 2 four ways and it was easily enough. Lovely food, great service and good value.

Like millions of others or possibly seven, we had a takeaway last night.

We normally come here to eat but fancied a takeaway and I ordered a Patia, and biriyani ( both chicken) also had Sag Aloo and the normals. I have got to say I was blown away with flavours and spices of both dishes. My GF loved it too. Even the Nan bread was quality. The young manager is very good and knowledgeable and is always helpful with advice. The service is fantastic but the food is of the highest quality. Every time we visit it gets better. Keep up the good work.

We have been looking for a new Indian restaurant and we found a real gem. The food was delicious, fresh and mouthwateringly good. Fabulous choice of dishes on the menu. Wonderful service and lovely setting. Our new favourite place the eat out.

It being the last day of our Brother & Sister visiting from Sweden, we wanted a memorable meal before they returned home. Knowing they liked Indian food we researched TripAdvisor and found that the Purbani in Hedge End, Nr Southampton, Hampshire was well reported, so we thought we would try for ourselves, and we were not disappointed.

One of the nicest curries We've ever had, nice staff, food hot and reasonable price. I had a mild vegetarian dish as 'recommended' on the menu. Flavoursome, could have eaten it again it was so nice. Husband was thrilled with his tandoori mix grill and sag aloo.

Portions are small, thought I ordered from child’s Menu...

The staff were all friendly, the food was good portions but the flavours weren’t all there. I still enjoyed it but I wouldn’t go back - not bad for a one off!

Would highly recommend going elsewhere for a large group meal. Myself and a party of 20 were going out for a friends birthday, we booked roughly 3 weeks in advance for a table for 9:00pm. We arrived at the restaurant to be told that they were too busy and to come back in half an hour, a discount would be applied. This I understand, however when returning half an hour later they said that they were not yet ready and we would need to wait a further 20/30 minutes, when saying how unacceptable this was to the manager he didn’t really seem to care and just said that we must understand that they are busy... if you can’t cater to that many people, don’t offer the reservation. Can’t comment on the food however heard nice things, won’t be returning and would recommend a 15 minute drive to town and visit the coriander lounge, great service and friendly management.

Have frequented this Indian restaurant for over 14yrs and now it is the best it has ever been. After a nice little refurb and new management, it runs well and food is traditional and delicious , pleasant surroundings and friendly staff. Well done

Ordered a mixed starter, chicken madras and keema nan. Starter was nothing special. The madras was a washy brown sauce with tough chewy chicken. The nan was doughy with limited meat.

We went to thePurbabi Indian restaurant in Hedge End for a birthday meal. Our party of 10 were warmly received, and enjoyed an excellent meal, all of our party were very happy with the excellent service and quality of the food. Would thoughly recomend.

Can't say anything about the food we never got that far. Having phoned to order we were asked to hold. After 15 minutes on hold i drove to the restaurant. 20 minutes on hold i am asked at the counter if they can help. Asked them to turn the phone over and why i had been left there for 20 minutes.

I thought I had to give a review of my take away because it was so good the staff were friendly the curry was excellent.

Fantastic spontaneous valentine’s meal. Easy parking, great service from friendly staff. Food was very tasty. Modern, clean and fresh. Would fully recommend to others and will visit again.

Whilst the food was OK - the service was appalling - the owner spent more time on the phone than doing any work - we had to keep reminding them for drinks and the meal turned up piecemeal; when one diner had finished the main the rice element then turned up! The response when saying to the owner about the service was "you don't have to come here - nobody forced you!!" - what a way to run a business and he is right - we don't have to go there and obviously won't.

I forgot to review the Purbani after our Xmas meal with our good friends. As per my previous meals the Purbani lived upto my high expectations. My friends have never been here before and were not disappointed. The food was superb and the Ambience was second to none. As per usual the young manager and his staff made us very welcomed and looked after us superbly. I always have a different dish each time and this time it was a Duck dish and it was great. Another good night so just going to order a Takeaway to see what thats like.

Visited here with my mum for dinner on Sunday 19th while we were staying at Botleigh Grange for a weekend away. We didn’t book and it was very busy, however the staff were very accommodating and allowed us to sit and wait with a drink while they found a table for us. All the staff in here are so friendly and they work as a really great team. It was such a lovely atmosphere to come in to and we both felt very welcome on our first visit. The food was fantastic, very hot and of high standard, also very reasonable prices for the amount you get. Finished the meal of with two complimentary shots which went down a treat! Couldn’t recommend this place enough and will defiantly be returning again soon! Thank you Purbani Tandoori 🙂

Had a meal here and can honestly say will be the last time I return, I'm sure the others who were with me will agree. I asked for a drink that I drink all the time and had tried to give me whiskey watered down in a rum bottle. This was not the only drink they were selling that was not what we ordered. Food all though was not all bad we had to wait for rice so the main was cold and had to be reheated.

We've been eating here regularly over the last year and the food is always delicious, regardless whether it's just for 2 of us or a group. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional and make you feel valued as a customer.

The restaurant was completely empty, we now know why. The staff ignored us whilst they scrambled round to please the locals they knew collecting takeaways. It seemed to much trouble, the main was being delivered to the table less than half way through the starter, and the food was worse than the service. We will never go back...

Staying in the area for a couple of days and arrived in Hedge End with no plans for dinner and called in to Purbani. The restaurant is bright and modern and the staff friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent with some unusual choices - the first time I had ever seen Duck on the menu in an Indian restaurant - and it was delicious! We had a very good meal at a very reasonable price and the service was very good indeed. Good job we were visiting from Northern Ireland as if we lived close it might become our second home!

We used to always go to their sister restaurant in Botley (and still do) however living closer to this one is perfect for takeaways. Food has hugely improved and it's is now a firm fav with the whole family!

We have visited many Indian restaurants throughout the uk and europe and sadly Purbani ranks as the most memorable for being bland, boring and tasteless.

Usual wednesday night out decided to go to purbani at hedge end last visit was about year ago been refurbished cubicles a bit tight four four people but okay service was very good didnt try to rush you like some indian restaurants food was excellent more than enough prices comparable to other indian restaurant well worth a visit

Went to the Purbani at Hedge End for the first time. We had always been to the Purbani at Botley, another excellent restaurant, in fact we have been customers there for many many years. However, we decided tonight to try the Hedge End Purbani and were not disappointed. The chef is excellent and certainly knows his stuff! Lovely, attentive management and staff, eager to please and so welcoming. The dishes were mouthwateringly delicious and perfectly served. We had a lovely time and will be going back! It is so refreshing to know you can rely on the quality and won't be left disappointed by your meal. Thoroughly recommended. If you have not yet tried them, you are in for a treat!

We are staying at the Macdonalds Hotel in nearby Botley and have had lousy service so we thought we would try somewhere else. The Purbani was a great find, good value, good freshly cooked Indian food and great service from people who appreciate your custom. The decor is modern and has a fresh feel which contributes to the dining experience. Well done team Purbani.

Me my partner and my parents ate here recently. And within a few hours after eating all 3 of them became badly ill with sickness and myself had problems the opposite end. Its no coincidence at all. Something is a miss with either hygiene or contamination. My parents and my GF were ill for over two days. I have made a complaint to food hygiene also. Its just the thin with some Indian restaurant chefs are rarely same or consistent. Also alarm bells are fact that this place is listed for sale on rightmove.

Just had a takeaway, arrived at the time given and had to wait a further 20 minutes, when I arrived home and checked the not so very warm food I discovered that the dry vegatable curry was no more than a small amount of diced carrot a little potato and chickpea and a tub full of gravy, Gahri gosht was mainly large pieces of green pepper onion a little meat and tube of grease. No real apologie given when I phoned to complain before I ate it or any offer of replacing, very poor food with even worse customer service levels, I won't be going back.

We visit this restaurant regularly and love both the food and the friendly, attentive and professional staff. So often in Southampton eateries, the service experienced can differ wildly from visit to visit but not at Purbani - Hedge End – consistent high levels of service are always provided and we have never had a disappointing experience. Definitely our favourite Indian Restaurant.

We were very happy with the tasty food - I'm a vegetarian and the saag paneer was delicious and the Dahl . The surroundings are very relaxing and the staff very helpful and attentive .

We visited this restaurant a few weeks ago and had a very enjoyable evening. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was outstanding. We got a warm welcome and were looked after by a charming young man – I think he was called Jay.

We are regulars to the Purbani. We live a 3 minute walk from it. Every time we visit, whether it be for a takeaway or a sit down meal, we are made to feel special. The food is cooked to perfection and if you want something slightly changed to your order, they will always accommodate you. This is by far my favourite Indian restaurant.

We have eaten here about 5 times in the past year as it is our local Indian. The food is ok and service efficient but doesn't feel very special or memorable compared with other similar restaurants. We don't find the staff welcoming or friendly.

Had meal they while we were there before we had finish meal they brush the floor then mop it then went and hovered while we were there and left door open while doing this and it got cold in restaurant.

I am a frequent customer and come once a week or whenever we can and as soon as you walk in the restaurant you are greeted by kind welcoming staff and the Young manager , Arkan really makes a great atmosphere by trying to fit everybody in the waiters are always nice to talk to and clear up fairly quick. But the food is soooo good from the classic korma to the ️amazing tandoori mixed grill the food is a traditional vibrant expierance and really emphasises how good the restruant really is.

We visited this Indian around Xmas and it was a superb evening.we decided to give it another go on Valentines. We were recognised straight away by the young manager on entering and given a good table by the window. The whole evening was superb from customer service to the exquisite food. We were given a complimentary starter to try which was a good touch and the pakora was superb. We really enjoyed our mains and the side of sag aloo was superb. We were offerred a free drink after our meal. The 2 young men running the restaurant our full of enthusiasm andm energy. The restaurant is modern and looks good.We will be coming back again and again if they keep up the good standards. The restaurant was busy the fresh salad tasty and the Rose for my partner was another great touch.

The Purbani is our regular "go to" restaurant as it is a walk away from home. We booked an early table last Wednesday and it was a quiet night so we were able to enjoy our food in a leisurely way, and had time to chat to Arkan, our favourite Manager. Our meal was, as always, delicious, tasty and plentiful. They have a new wine list and we chose a very excellent bottle of Malbec. I would suggest that the wine list menu should be reprinted as it was only later that we noticed the less expensive wines as they were printed further down the list whereas normally they would be at the start and then wines usually go down the page from the cheapest to the dearest. Nevertheless the wine was very good and the evening was a treat. We shall be back for another meal next week - to celebrate a friend's 90th birthday!Jeanette - Hedge End.

Was seated in a booth by the bar/kitchens. Not a good idea for a Saturday night when a queue of people are standing by your table constantly waiting for take-aways and you want a romantic quiet meal out. Starters and poppadoms were okay, but the main courses were a let down. Naan bread was small, Sali Boti chicken was certainly not tender, nor was the chicken vindaloo. Cheap cuts of meat! No house wine on the menu and only two rose to choose from and cheapest being £17.50 a bottle. Will not visit again.

I have been coming to this restaurant regularly since it was refurbished and changed management. The food has always been of a high standard and the staff is welcoming and attentive. A real pleasure to visit.
