The Kimchi in Norwich

I recently visited The Kimchi in Norwich and had a mixed experience. We ordered Bibim Bap with mushrooms, KFC-style chilli rice, Mandoo dumplings, and Topokki. The biggest disappointment was the fried chicken in the KFC-style dish—it was raw and very chewy, making it almost impossible to eat. This was a major letdown, especially considering it's a dish that should be crispy and well-cooked. The Bibim Bap was okay but nothing special; it lacked the rich, bold flavors I was expecting. On the other hand, the Mandoo dumplings were decent, though quite mild in taste. The best dish of the night was the Topokki, which had a good texture and flavor. Overall, the experience was underwhelming, mainly due to the poorly cooked chicken. With some improvements, this place could offer a much better dining experience.

Tried this restaurant for the first time recently. The food was excellent and we didn't wait long at all for it. The service was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be returning soon! I hope they create a dessert menu as well.

Coolest place to eat in Norwich! Great food and lovely staff. Also great value. Never disappoints, just consistently good.

Excellent Korean food. We tried Kimchi-jeon, Dol-Sol with mushrooms, Just KFC and Beef glass noodles. Staffs are nice and helpful. Highly recommended and please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

One of our usual spots for a special bite to eat. Staff are always very friendly and accommodating and the food is always great and reasonably priced too! My top spot I recommend to people fancying something different

One bathroom wasn’t working. The tables were too close together. Food wasn’t amazing, was a bit dry. No bottled still mineral water. Service felt a bit rushed. Staff weren’t good at reading body language and would come over at obviously bad times. Poor experience. Won’t go back.

Excellent food and nice atmosphere. Kimchis specialty is the "KFC" - Koren Fried Chicken, and it is very good. Personally prefer the sweet Chilli flavour KFC as its much more flavourful but the regualr is still good with the Garlic Soy dip side. Also a nice option and great value is the 'Army Stew' which is a noodle-based stew with loads of meat and in a spicy broth that is delicious. If you like soft drinks, the Watermelon or Mango sodas are great anf quite unique too. Defo recommend this place if you've never been before. Prices are very good value for how good the food is.

The best Korean food in East Anglia.

(2022) Had lunch at this Korea place. Staff are friendly, food price ok, the food is ok, the dumplings are not home made but OK. Overall its ok nothing special. (2024) This is my 2nd time visiting after 2 years and the food is about the same but Service and Atmosphere has gone down a bit

Their food is not fresh and also miss something .i was ordered egg bibim bum ，but i only got rice veg and egg，they forgot put sauce inside ，it taste nothing also the egg was dyed purple by the vegetables ，disgusting .

Myself & partner visited the kimchi after a recommendation from a friend. After months of trying to get in we finally did. & boy was it worth the wait! Amazing food, excellent & friendly service, would 100% recommend & 100% be visiting again. Thank you for a great experience.

10/10 authentic Korean food. You can feel the passion that drives this place when you walk in. Was passing through Norwich but would definitely go back again. Every part of the Pusan was flavourful.

This is one of my favourite places to eat! The food is delicious. I've been several times and it's been great every time. Service is fast, kind staff. Prices are very good too. Would highly recommend to everyone.

The Kimchi in Norwich is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves Korean cuisine! The flavors are authentic and well-balanced, and the menu offers a great variety of dishes to choose from. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I especially enjoyed the bibimbap and the dumplings – they were absolutely delicious. While the chicken noodles were not quite to my taste, everything else made for a truly enjoyable dining experience. I would definitely recommend trying this place out if you're in the area!

Lovely second floor, hole in the wall korean restaurant. The staff are friendly and make the atmosphere even better. The food is comforting and authentic. Portions are large and are best shared between people

I went here with my dad as we'd been meaning to go to this place for a while. And we were both very glad that we finally did! The food was absolutely amazing, amd very good value for money. They also had a good selection of tea's and drinks, which were quite different. I will definitely be coming back again, and I couldn't recommend it enough!

Returned 2024, scrumptious food and service too! Returned 2023, still A mazing food, however, service was questionable I could drop a star or two, but as the food is to die for I'll let it go! A Mazing, food was good and not expensive. You need to book in advance and be mindful not child friendly entrance, but the staff are super helpful with prams etc. Always busy and I'm not surprised. I've visited twice so far. All of them received unit jjigae. The portion was plentiful and the seasoning was spicy and delicious, but I started to get bored after the second half. I also appreciate that they provide free kimchi. I think the cost performance is also very high.

Absolutely fantastic. Firstly, the food is utterly delicious, lovely potion sizes and very well priced. The staff are so sweet and attentive. We came in a lunch time rush (booked for 1.30pm) and the food was still quick, the service was amazing and the restaurant felt very comfortable and relaxed. It’s always an amazing sign when you walk into a restaurant to try it for the first time and all the tables are full. Trust the Norwich locals and come here.

Called in to Kimchi for lunch today. Really good. Waiter gave us some advice on what to order. Had 1 starter and 2 mains plenty for 2. £26 great value. Recommended.

Went there with family and close friends. I must say that I really enjoyed the whole experience. The service was immaculate. The food was very tasty and plentiful without the exorbitant prices. The ambience was very nice and cosy. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I would definitely recommend. I would definitely recommend booking in advance as it is very popular especially Friday when we went. One thing I would improve on is the printout of the menu otherwise perfect.

Amazing, most bombastic fantastic chicken

We wanted to have a Korean dinner and this place did not disappoint. Wonderful Korean food! The bulgogi was cooked right and a good portion too. The kimchi pancake was generous with the kimchi in it. The fried chicken was good and juicy on the inside. We also had free fresh kimchi and it was good. I wanted to ask for more but didn't see other tables getting a second so we decided not to. But I'm guessing they'll give more if asked, it's a Korean restaurant 😁. The restaurant was full when we arrived, good thing we made a reservation. I would recommend to reserve a table if u want to dine here as the place is not that big.

Fourth visit (in 5 months) and it’s confirmed: this is the BEST restaurant in Norwich. The food is incredible, the staff are super friendly, and the vibes are just 10/10. It’d be my death row meal for sure. Thank you!!!

booked for 5.30 as going to the theatre at 7.30. gave me a 1 hour slot. up quite steep stairs and the first to arrive as they opened. place soon filled up. never eaten here before and only had Korean food once or twice before. WOW! great waiter helped us order. had a large Yang-Yum KFC, absolutely gorgeous, probably too much for 2 people but ate it all anyway :-). i had the Dol-Sot (hot rice bowl), array of different veg with spicy pork and my wife had the Bibim-Bap similar idea but served warm. also really tasty. portions are large and all excellent value. food served quickly and service excellent. my only problem in recommending this place is that more people will go and we may not get a table next time!

Great value for money and delicious food. Service was incredibly friendly but one of our waitresses was somewhat lacking. Never brought our drinks and had to ask for them once meal had arrived. Didn't put us off the place and we will happily return but service could certainly be improved. The waiter who brought our food (and subsequent drinks) was one of the friendliest and most cheerful people you could wish to meet!

Amazing Korean Restaurant in Norwich! The food selection is great and the food is lovely, we all loved our food and shared dishes between us. The food is also really well priced, I don't find many restaurants at this price anymore. The staff were lovely as well, if we had questions on food they were happy to explain and answer. Would definitely recommend booking in advance though as the space is small with limited seating.

Great food, price and staff! Definitely not a posh big occasion restaurant, but such great comfort food. Make sure you book as it's a sign of a great place when they are almost always full and need to book.

Very tasty, authentic Korean foods, good service. We should on time and number of members correctly that we booked. Ever thought there is many conditions but it is easy for restaurant to arrange the seats.

I won't be returning to this restaurant. Although the booking allowed for a 90-minute stay, we were rushed out after just an hour. As soon as we finished our meal, the staff quickly cleared our table and immediately brought the card reader, asking us to leave. It wasn’t just us—other customers were treated the same way. We weren’t trying to use the full 90 minutes, but it would have been nice to relax for a bit after eating instead of feeling pressured to leave.

Amazing! The food is delicious and so fresh. The service is outstanding yet humble and the small dining room is always busy with a good buzz. Definitely book ahead, even for lunch.

Food was good but can be pricey, this isn't for the general student budget as prices range from 9-10+ pounds per item on the menu, aside from side dishes. The food is tasty and full of flavor. There's a good range of drinks, too. They record everyone's details for covid tracking to be extra careful. They also try to space out the tables for social distancing, though its hard to do so in a small space. All staff wear masks, so that's always a relief.

The food was delicious and just one dish really fills you up. Customer service was also very good and overall one of the best Asian food restaurants in Norwich. If you like Korean food, you'll enjoy The Kimchi. Only suggestion I have is to have a bigger selection of food. Edit: I now change my review because of seeing the owner’s unkind behaviour to their workers which I saw firsthand (the woman raised her voice at one of the employees, I think they didn’t notice I was there). The food is good but the personality matters too.

Lovely place nice food and good service

Very good food, service swift and efficient. Hiving been there twice now, I feel that the atmosphere and deco needs something, no efforts for that poorly laid dining room. But, again the Food 5 STARS 🌟 🤩

First time being here and went alone. Friendly staff and wonderful service. Food was lovely and I had the yang yum kfc with the beef Bulgogi. I would advise booking before coming as they seem to get a lot of bookings.

Absolutely loved the kimchi! Food is so tasty and great value! Service was also top draw! Have already booked to return!! My only feedback would be to have some more vegetarian options on the menu… this is just so I can attend more regularly!! The chilli fried chicken and the kimchi pancakes were a highlight for me but everything I had was delicious!

If you’re looking to eat local at an incredible price with the some of the best food you’ve had out before, you’ve found the right place. Value for money is incredible, it’s almost unbelievable how low the price is for how big the portions are - the Korean Tapas Meals are a highlight when considering how much food you get for a low price. The absolute highlight, however, has to be the Korean Fried Chicken (I would recommend glazed), which is the most tender, delectable, appetising and enjoyable chicken you are going to eat. I can also speak to the enjoyment of the Róse Toppoki and the Pork Man-Doo (both pictured here). Not to mention staff are incredibly lovely and welcoming, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is a delight. What a privilege to eat here.

Excellent food. Need to come back to try everything. Note, no dessert menu so go hard on mains! And try the pear juice drink.

Fantastic food, super quick and friendly service and very good value for money

Had a lovely meal to celebrate a friend's birthday, got a good selection to try lots of the dishes. Personal highlights were the toppiki (I think that's how it's spelt) both the normal and the rosé. Service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere was great. To top it all off the price was better than we expected.

I have been here so many times and this restaurant never disappoints me. The food here is delicious and come with a relatively large portion compared to the prices. I love the army stew and KFC particularly the sauce. The free kimchi tastes very good and fit with the main pretty well. I recommend you to come here if you want to have a fantastic Korean food in Norwich.

The quality of the furnishings in this establishment are not the best, think plastic outdoor furniture or wooden. However, That aside, the FOOD IS PHENOMINAL. I would highly reccomend this gastronomical expereince to anyone wanting to dive into some really lovely korean food!

I’ve been meaning to try The Kimchi for a number of years… tucked away off of Gentleman’s Walk in Norwich City centre it’s quite easily missed unless you’re a Norwich pro. I dined out as a party of 1 during the middle of lunch rush hour, I didn’t think to book as I was a solo hero however it appeared when I ascended the steep stairs to brothy heaven it would have been advisable to call / book ahead as it appears TKC gets a little busy. The vibe is laid back, no pretension here, and though cosy the site lends itself to spacious tables so you don’t sit on top of other diners which is so often the case in South Korean themed restaurants in London etc. I like that as I dislike hearing other conversations when I’m eating. The waiter made space for me luckily and I was seen to with haste. I order the chicken noodle soup which was absolutely on point; the chicken was tender and delicious, the broth well balanced - not too spicy but enough to keep my tummy pleasured on a fairly chill early Spring day. The perfect ratio of broth and noodles also made sure I was satisfied when finished. Absolutely delicious from the first spoonful to the last. From what I could ascertain the SK chicken was the main draw of TKC as many a patron was indulging in the star dish of the menu but, as I say, it was chill Spring day and I needed some warm liquid to see me through, though I would add the chicky fried looked equally as delicious. The service was on point and attentive, the food superb. The atmosphere busy but vibey and generally I felt it was visit I shouldn’t have put off for as long as I did! SK food seems to be on trend at the moment but TKC has been around for a while. Others will come and go but if they keep up the standard I experience today TKC will be here for a long, long time! Hats off to y’all TKC ✌🏻

Visited last night with some family. Its a quirky little restaurant tucked away upstairs in the city centre. The decor is slightly dated and its a little run down in places, but the atmosphere is pleasant and the staff all friendly. The food is nothing short of amazing, the Korean Fried Chicken is the star of the show as well as their dumplings. Portion sizes are generous and very reasonably priced. We over ordered as the portions were so big, but took the leftovers home with us. What a great little restaurant, would highly recommend if you like authentic Korean food.

Food is just amazing. Great selection (but not too much), really tasty, good veggie options and quick service. And all at a fantastic price! My friend is also newly gluten free (strictly), and the server was very knowledgeable and able to provide recommendations and adaptations to suit. Top class restaurant that I’m proud to have in my city!

Love this place. All the dishes are fresh and hot and tasty. Well worth a visit.

We indulged in a delightful array of dishes at Kimchi, including the Grilled Tofu Dol Sot, Two Spicy Pork Dol-Sot, Jinju, and a generously shared portion of Chilli Korean Fried Chicken with Pineapple Mayonnaise. The experience was splendid, and our friends from London deemed it the best Dol-Sot they've had in years. The quick and fresh service added to the enjoyment, and despite being full, the restaurant maintained its lively atmosphere. It's no surprise that securing a table at this establishment is a challenge, given its status as, in my opinion, the best Asian food spot in Norwich.

Came here for an evening meal. Was seated straight away and staff were helpful and happy to move me & my friend to a 2 seat table when it became available. Warm & cosy inside, nice atmosphere. Ordered sweet glazed korean fried chicken, beef bulgogi, rice & pork dumplings - everything was delicious and served very fast. Will definitely come here again. Thank you!

Fantastic food in heart of Norwich city centre. Atmosphere is amazing and the food is exquisite. Plenty of food shared between 4 of us and everyone was delighted. Without doubt the best Asian food in Norwich. The KFC is to die for!

First time visitor - greeted and seated quickly- we booked a table- restaurant was clean, simply furnished but had a good atmosphere. Staff friendly and attentive and considerate. Prices were surprisingly low for freshly made. Waiter knowledgeable of the menu, order came quickly and was delicious.. definitely going again♡

Really enjoyed the meal - so many different flavours going on. My advice would be to definitely get one of the KFCs and a bibimbap. Make sure to ask for an egg for the bibimbap (we didn't notice egg was an extra).
