Chamthai Soul Kitchen in Norwich

Had an amazing experience here couple of weeks ago. Delicious authentic Thai food cooked fresh and the staff made us feel very welcome, whilst cooking for us. Would definitely recommend as they really do care how your experience is and the food is to die for!

We turned up without a reservation and were warmly welcomed. The food was incredible, we ordered several dishes hoping to take some home in a doggy bag but we couldn't stop eating it and polished off the lot! Can't wait to visit again and would highly recommend.

Fantastic home cooked food and service here with wonderful Thai atmosphere. Highly recommend dish 31 and the Thai crackers with home made peanut sauce reminded us of Asia. Hidden Gem in Norwich. We will be back soon.

I absolutely love this restaurant and eat there nearly every month whenever I'm in Norwich for work. The food is authentic and as good as in Thailand. Service is lovely. It's a family business and we always feel welcome there. Highly recommended. They do the best tom yum soup I ever had in the UK. Give it a go!

What’s all the fuss about? The mains took 50 minutes to arrive and the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. My Massaman curry was flavoursome, but my friend’s green curry was watery, although we have to give them credit for filling it generously with prawns. Our host was lovely and it’s good they cater for dietary requirements, but beyond that I can’t recommend it for the unnecessarily long waiting times and mixed quality for the price.

This was our second time at this restaurant. I was so impressed on our first visit we booked it for my birthday the owner is absolutely amazing she explains all about the food you order and her recommendations should be listened two. The food is amazing. The staff friendly and most helpful and don't forget the chef absolutely brilliant bringing a taste of Thai to Norwich at its best. ❤️

I’m coeliac & vegan so I messaged in advance to check if they could accommodate my dietary needs & they were so helpful & adapted the menu for me. They also asked us to order in advance which was really helpful as we were on a short time frame as we were going to the theatre. The food was really tasty & the server was very attentive & polite. We will definitely go again.

Absolutely delicious food. Outstanding Thai food that tastes authentic. I had the Gang Daeng curry with tofu, and ordered sticky rice. It tasted amazing - pretty spicy, but I like that, and the tofu was the best I have had outside of Thailand. Thank you to the chefs! Only downside was the slow service. The staff were very friendly and working hard because it was busy, but we were disappointed because we arrived at 6pm and did not get our food till 7:15pm. We had phoned earlier that day to order our food in advance and explained that we would need to leave at 7:15pm for a concert. We asked if we could eat at 6pm, and they had said yes. As you can imagine, we were therefore very hungry by the time the food arrived 😅 Sadly our meal was very rushed, but it was very delicious because the food is all cooked fresh. I recommend giving yourself plenty of time (at least two hours) to eat here. If you are in a rush, this restaraunt might not be the best option. They were happy to accommodate for me being vegetarian and coeliac (gluten free). One of us cannot eat garlic, onion, or spring onions, and they were able to cook pad thaj without these ingredients! She said it tasted delicious. We were very grateful for their adaptability. I will definitely return here in future, but when I have no commitments and don't mind waiting.

Have eaten at this lovely family owned restaurant many times ,they work tirelessly to produce authentic Thai food at very reasonable prices . They do not serve the western Thai variation that is more acceptable to the sensitive palates of the Benidom brigade such as shanshantiq , who was the author of a previous review . The chef learned his craft in some of the finest 5 star hotels in Bangkok . I have visited Thailand many times and as such I am quite knowledgeable regarding Thai culture and cuisine. So I can say as a matter of fact that " Chanthai" is as good and if not better than many restaurants I have visited whilst in Thailand ! I am at a loss to understand why the review from Shanshantiq is completely incorrect ,clearly they have no understanding of the Thai cuisine .Their review was poorly written and childish ,factually incorrect ,very offensive and libelous. very sad why some people set out to hurt people ,its so bitter and twisted !

Lovely setting friendly family-type service welcoming but AND we have to talk about the food too .... sadly Started with n°1 on the menu fishcakes the thing is there was ZERO flavour of fish and thought they might have made a mistake and given me veal (i am vegetarian/pescatarian) I was starving so i went on it has absolutely no taste whatsoever My friend had tempura which he described as basically onion rings very poor The main dishes arrived mine was a Thai curry basically in this case boiled spices with floating fried veg again ZERO flavour and a few king prawns floating too .... i ate the prawns and left the rest even the "coconut rice" tasted hyperbland that is not a recipe that is a Year 8 student trying Thai cooking in his bedroom with a kettle edible but not cooked food as a chef would make it My friend had a Pad Thai it looked like something the cat dragged in when it arrived he ate two spoonfuls and pushed it away the kind lady charged him ½ on this one THis is not food cooked by a trained chef in my view; this is someone who just reads a book and tries it out It is the worst meal I have had in a sit-down restaurant in Norwich and we have had a few serious disappointments before but seriously avoid .... unless you have no taste buds Not sure what these other reviews are about since i cannot see how it could be improved upon I should have walked out when we arrived since there was NO food smell whatsoever in the place even when we left and other meals had been served I will make sure i stay away ... had a sandwich when i got home

We stayed at the Premier Inn and needed something to eat. We trawled around the city centre and were looking for something better than the usual chains. We came back to the Chamthai Soul Kitchen and at 7pm we were the only people in. The food was absolutely amazing - beautifully cooked with lots of flavour and all very reasonably priced. I can highly recommend this place especially as it is the nearest to the Premier Inn.

What can I say? It's absolutely amazing! Staff friendly, welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. Food is authentic and delicious and arrives hot and fresh! The ambience was relaxing and calming. There was a nice amount of time between courses, so there was no rush. Added to this, the potions were the perfect size and a very reasonable price too! Easily the best restaurant I have been to for a long time. I will be back! P.s. We had the Chamthai Platter to start and the Gang Daeng and Jasmine rice for mains! Amazing!

This is my go to restaurant in norwich and I'm never disappointed. The food is amazing as are the lovely staff. I would recommend 100% if you haven't been then you are missing out on a little gem .

Where do I start. No atmosphere, table of luvvies who had no respects for othee diners talking about their eye jobs. Food extremely slow and not great and no idea why it took so long. Waitress kept calling people darling.

Ventured here on an overnight work trip to get out of the hotel; so glad I did! Possibly the best Tom yum soup ever (not made to English taste and bland like many other places) and very generous with the king prawns. I could hear other diners commenting on how delicious their food was too. Lovely service. I’d highly recommend a visit here 😊

Based on the centre of Norwich, this Thai restaurant was having a very busy night and the restaurant was understaffed. That said, server was really lovely and worked really hard to get food out. Had starters and mains, both very tasty and worth the wait.

We have been to many Thai restaurants but this was a great find, the mixed starter is the best we have ever had, so fresh & tasty. Main course was delicious & also very fresh. The service was attentive & friendly, it felt so homely & is the sort of place that we will revisit. My wife actually booked this Restaurant by mistake, we were both glad that she did as we had never heard of it before but I would highly recommend..

Really spoilt with delicious food and such friendly service. We were celebrating hubby’s birthday and we really enjoyed a relaxed evening together. We followed the advice and although one dish was hot and spicy, the suggested additional dish balanced the meal perfectly. And we only needed one dish of rice! Thank you.

Nice spot in Norwich for Thai Food, dishes were fine and the waitress was nice and polite. However the food took a very long time to arrive, and made us miss our train. We waited for nearly an hour for the mains to arrive, whilst watching other tables getting served. They mentioned that they are a family run restaurant, but still doesn't explain the incredibly long wait for our table; we thought we might have been forgotten!

It's the same as the review a year ago shocking hasn't improved We ate at this restaurant recently during a visit to Norwich for the night. The hosts were extremely welcoming on arrival. We ordered food and drinks and starters arrived swiftly. All good so far. But, the mains took an hour to arrive after that and by the time they came we weren't hungry at all. I have eaten far tastier and better cooked Thai food in lots of places, and was disappointed by Chamthai Soul Kitchen especially as this place had such glowing reviews here and on TripAdvisor. If it wasn't for the woman serving us who was a genuine delight to chat to and very friendly. I am sorry to say that I don't think we would returning to this place again.

I'm SouthEast Asian myself and this is by far my favourite restaurant in Norwich. My first visit was with my parents, and since then I've been back another 4 times, also introducing my friends and my boyfriend to the restaurant. The food is authentic and nothing short of incredible. The hostess is one of the friendliest and joyful people I've ever interacted with and always makes you feel welcome. My only constructive notes would be that the decor of the restaurant is a bit bland and it can also get a little chilly, but that does not deduct from the amazing food and fantastic service. I'll be going again this Friday and I'm already excited!

Totally blown away with the awesome flavours, took my taste buds back to Thailand 🇹🇭 cannot fault any part of our meal or service will definitely be back

Went for dinner Tuesday with a girlfriend and just love the food here. Menu had plenty of choice. Can’t fault anything with this little gem of a place. Charm was lovely so welcoming and even remembered me when I came in January. Definitely will go back soon. Best thai in Norwich.

The most elegant Pad Thai in Norwich city centre 🤩

This is a lovely Thai restaurant you should not miss in Norwich. The lady boss is very friendly and chatty. 😁 Although the wait time for the food may be a bit longer during peak hours, I assure you that the wait is definitely worthy! The dishes with one chili pepper are already quite hot to me, so if you prefer less spiciness, don't hesitate to request it, especially for the dishes with three chili peppers (some of the lovely fish dishes). To cool down the heat, I highly recommend getting a refreshing Thai ice milk tea, which perfectly complements the bold flavors of the dishes.

Party of 8, we were here for about 2.5 hours, understandably a large group took a little while for food to come out So why five stars? Cause the food is absolutely delicious, I would very much recommend having a look for the chef recommended items and possibly going outside your comfort zone with the food, the servers were lovely and the drinks were made well I cannot recommend this place enough

Walked into Chamthai Soul Kitchen wet and tired after a days Christmas shopping and had fantastic welcome in a warm, friendly family atmosphere. Food is as good as any I've had in Thailand with traditional Thai hospitality . Just fantastic.

Recommended by friends for the quality of the food but we didn't get to try it because their total lack of understanding of what's needed for a gluten free meal left us unable to order anything. Very poor when most restaurants are able to offer a gluten option on their menus.

Went as a party of four and we had the set menu. The food was okay but the portion sizes very small. Staff attentive, tables not big enough to accommodate 4 comfortably, unfortunately I will not be returning.

Delicious, authentic Thai! Probably the best Thai place in Norwich now. A couple of the smaller dishes were a bit dry and disappointing, but most of the food was excellent.

Typical smiley friendly Thai service, and the food was absolutely delicious. However, service was very slow even though there were just a few tables, so just make sure you're not starving when you turn up.

We first visited Chamthai when we were on holiday in Norwich. Now we live here and we have Chamthai as our 'local'. Thai The food is tasty, fresh and the portions are good. The owner, La Or, is the friendliest lady on earth! We have lost count of how many times we have been there and I am sure we will keep on going there for many years to come! We love Chamthai!

Authentic Thai. Food was delicious and staff super friendly. I’d prefer the lighting not to be quite as bright though to make it a bit cosier inside. My friend had bad potatoes in her Massaman curry but they knocked 50% off and were very apologetic so all good.

Last minute valentine's day dinner with friends went very well. First, they were easy to find on the map. Yup, we found and picked them via Google maps. Next, they werevery helpful with finding parking nearby. We got a table in three to five minutes despite not having a reservation and though it was a busy night. The lady who waited on us, was quite helpful in picking our meals. We all had Ginger ale, which was nice. Our order came slightly a longer than I anticipated, but I guess I was too hungry😊. The prawns, rice and noodles were different -sweeter than expected. I'd hoped for a proper spicy meal. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner, as did my friends.

Visited last night and we were both underwhelmed. Soggy, sponge-like fish cakes to start with which were not pleasant. Mains were OK, but I’d honestly rather eat at Giggling Squid. I have visited Thailand many times and had high hopes for our meals, our expectations...

Absolutely excellent. Beautifully made food, full of flavour and detail. I like hot and spicy and this didn't disappoint. Plenty of options for those who prefer less spicy food.

We’ve eaten at Chamthai Soul Kitchen twice now. Both times the food has been absolutely delicious. This is authentic Thai food clearly made with love, experience and precision. Highlights have been the Pad Thai, fish curry and also the papaya salad (nice and spicy hot)....

It was an impulse meal and I was glad I gave in to that temptation. To start I was presented with complimentary prawn crackers then had a chef recommended Thai soup (Chicken Tom Pa) fragrant rice with egg (Khao Pad Khao) and spicy stir fried pork (Pad Chaa?) . The portions were generous and I ended up taking enough home for a second meal. Two courses with a Singha beer came to just under £25.

Best Thai meal I have had outside of Thailand. Super fresh ingredients, very tasty, the spice level is just right - when they say it is hot it is hot but perfect for those of us who like spice. So many Thai restaurants say that their hot is hot but the level is really only about medium. Having said that, for a Thai person this might be on the milder side. Very friendly staff and quick and efficient service. If I have any quibble with the restaurant it is that the decor could do with a little more warmth to make it more inviting. A minor quibble for a place with good prices and really tasty fresh food.
