Eleven of us went here for a family meal this weekend and really enjoyed it. The food on the menu is proper home cooked classics done well, the portion sizes are very large especially for £6.50 a meal. All the staff are very friendly and there is a nice atmosphere. We will definitely come back again.

The Keel has recently started doing 2 steaks for £20 on a Friday night. This is the second time we had this offer and what good value it is. You can choose from either sirloin, rump or rib eye. I have had sirloin both times and it was cooked to perfection. So often I ask for my steak to be cooked medium rare but when it comes it is medium. All the other meals on the board are only £6.50 and there is something to suit everyone. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

We were a group booking of 14 for Sunday Lunch and most of us decided that we were a little disappointed with the entire meal. We were sat at tables which had been put together in a long row in a room on our own, the tables felt tacky to the touch and the place mats were so old and worn that much of the picture had gone from them. We were waiting for ages and ages for the food to come and then when it did start to come out to us there was only one person serving it so by the time the last 2 people got their food those of us at the other end of the tables were over half way through their dinners. The meat was lovely but the veg was sadly frozen, the food was served warm rather than piping hot. Compared to several other places we have been to it was a disappointment.

Excellent value, all meals are £6.00. About 20 different items on the menu so something to suit everyone. My Mum and Dad are really fussy eaters and we struggle to find anywhere suitable to take them but they always enjoy it here. Drinks are also reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit.

Spontaneous trip to the keel to meet with family ahead of a little trip to the coast. We were served at the bar and took our seats by the open fire while our table in the restaurant was being prepared for us. Couldn't fault the drinks, good selection and averagely priced. We were called through to the restaurant after around 15 mins and our table was set up and ready for us. The place doesn't have a regular menu as such but has a massive blackboard with around 20 meals displayed, catering for all tastes and diets. Every single meal on the menu is £6 and the kids meals are half price. Amongst us we ordered mixed grills (yes even a mixed grill is £6), lasagne, and bacon and cheese burger. All the meals came together and we're beautifully presented. The amount of food on our plates was unreal! All home cooked and hearty meals. The kids ordered sausage mash and Yorkshires and this was all homemade too, they enjoyed every mouthful. Infact my two kids can be rather picky but I never heard a word from them and they devoured their meals! I did catch a glimpse of the dessert menu, and there was again a massive selection to chooses from with just a £2 add on price to your main meal, but I just couldn't eat another morsal! Nicola and her team run this restaurant brilliantly and the care put into the food really shows. The pub itself is quite dated but I quite like that it's old fashioned and still has a local pub feel. Overall, the quality and value for money in the restaurant here is second to none. Well done to the team, I would highly recommended.

Despite making a booking when we arrived the pub entrance was closed. The kitchen staff spoke to us and said they had no keys, it was about 15 mins later the guy opened up, didn't apologise and his mate who had walked past us about 10 mins before had been let in round the back! Priorities? The dinner was ok, I'd expected fantastic after I regularly see reviews saying it's the best Sunday Dinner ever but we felt it was pretty bland. I've been to The Keel many times before and always been a fan of the excellent value weekday meals but was disappointed with the Sunday Dinner so wouldn't have it again and I was appalled by the guy not opening the pub and not apologising.

Attended a party here a few days before Christmas. The room was quite cramped for the number of people attending but we made the best of it. The disco was very loud but that may be an age thing with me. However, the buffet was very good and plenty of it. I think it warrants another try just for a meal in the restaurant the menus looked very inviting.

Lovely little olde world pub, old fashioned decor but cosy. Friendly, jovial landlord that made us very welcome. The food was very good home cooked fare. I had the liver and onions with mash and peas, my husband had the scampi, chips and salad and my daughter had the burger and chips. The food arrived hot, fresh and plenty of it. If I was to rate it all I would give it 9/10 only because the chips were frozen and I would have liked more choice of veg but I still can't complain at £6.00 each meal. Even though we were stuffed we felt that we had to try the puddings. Again they were home cooked and plentiful and at £2.75 each a bargain to boot. Would definitely recommend this little pub and will be returning I am sure.

We have visited this restaurant several times. The dining room is small with around 8 tables in a traditional pub, with the catering being a franchise. The restaurant is open for meals Tuesday to Saturday noon till 7pm. There is a regularly updated menu with around 20 choices all at £6, with generous portions, all freshly prepared. The food is very good with a choice ranging from homemade pies to salads. They have a nice range of desserts at £2.75 and a children's menu £3. Pensions can have smaller portion main with dessert for £5.95. Sundays traditional Sunday lunch being served 12 noon to 4pm available at £6.50, booking is advisable. The staff are friendly efficient and helpful.

A friend invited me out for lunch and she chose the Keel. The inn has a very traditional feel to it, and seemed cosy. I was impressed by the choice of menu. The food was lovely, it tasted freshly cooked and looked it. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The main course was delicious and excellent value. We decided to have a pudding, which was OK, but not as good as the main course, but it was still tasty enough. The dining area where we was rather small and closed in, I don't know if there are other areas where one can eat, but I actually rather liked it and felt that I would be comfortable going there by myself to eat.

Me and my wife ate here on tuesday night. What a fantastic find. The food choice, presentation and amount we got was unbelievable. The waitress was very attentive and bubbly nothing was too much trouble. The only thing that lets the place down was when we arrived the manb behind the bar which i presume was the landlord didn't seem to want to be there. No please or thank u's. Manners don't cost anything. Also while we were eating we overheard a young lady ask the landlady for a glass of tap water with the landlady replying "do you realise we have to pay the water gas and electric in this place" assuming she was not happy giving FREE tap water away. How rude. Such a shame because the food was lovely.

I took my Dad for a lunch on the recommendation of a friend. The food was really good. The prices and choices were amazing. The lady who served was very helpful, attentive and friendly. The problem was the dining room, at least on the day we went. My Dad is old and found it uncomfortable. The seating is hard and rather cramped. This is a very old pub with loads of character and I would go again. I don't think my Dad would though, he's 89 and needed more leg room. We changed seats but he didn't want to move again and draw attention to himself but he wasn't entirely happy which was a shame, better seating arrangements and he would really have enjoyed the experience. He did love the food and thought it was fantastic value for money. I recommend anyone to try it and see for themselves. The friend who recommended the Keel to us had a birthday meal there. There is a bigger room which can be opened up to cater for parties.

This restaurant is a must visit establishment. We have been meaning to visit for some time choosing last week when it was closed for refurbishment. This tea time we visited with our son and his fiancee and baby and were really impressed. There isn't a printed menu as such but all the menu options are written on a blackboard as you enter and again in the restaurant. We were definitely spoiled for choice and a huge bonus was that all the dishes were priced at £5.50 and were not just run of the mill pub food options. After ordering our choice we sat in the main pub waiting to be shown into the dining room. The pub was warm and welcoming . Our meals were served promptly by a charming young lady who was attentive but not "in your face". We all thoroughly enjoyed our choices and then decided to try the desserts which were priced at £2.50 each and plenty of choice yet again . Meals are served from 12 noon till 7pm in the week and I believe Tuesday till Friday and also at the weekend. We will definitely visit again soon and highly reccommend this restaurant for good value for money with excellent friendly service and a warm welcome.

The tapas were also very good quality and good sized portions (maybe 2 each is probably enough, or 3 if really hungry). The staff were very friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere in the resteraunt. We’ve for bottomless brunch for 1.5 hours, had to go to the bar ourselves for every drink we’ve ordered since. After finishing a bottomless brunch at 3pm, we were told to be quiet after 5:30pm after buying 2 bottles of Prosecco and cocktails and shots after our brunch finished. Then were told by the manager to be quiet, after spending over £300 a between us, we. Felt very welcome, we could have gone other local places that welcomed us, or gone to a larger place in Barnsley, did not expect to be kicked out after 3 hours, won’t be going again, absolutely shocking. Worst bottomless brunch ever, staff was great, and we left a tip until the manager came out, Shocking.
