The Wentworth Arms in Barnsley

We’ve for bottomless brunch for 1.5 hours, had to go to the bar ourselves for every drink we’ve ordered since. After finishing a bottomless brunch at 3pm, we were told to be quiet after 5:30pm after buying 2 bottles of Prosecco and cocktails and shots after our brunch finished. Then were told by the manager to be quiet, after spending over £300 a between us, we. Felt very welcome, we could have gone other local places that welcomed us, or gone to a larger place in Barnsley, did not expect to be kicked out after 3 hours, won’t be going again, absolutely shocking. Worst bottomless brunch ever, staff was great, and we left a tip until the manager came out, Shocking.

Today, we tried the bottomless brunch for the first time, and the Wentworth team did not disappoint! The food was fantastic, drinks were constantly flowing, and the live music added to the amazing experience. They even surprised us with a Tequila Rose shot when the bill arrived—such a thoughtful touch. The staff made sure our food arrived promptly and kept our glasses full throughout. Big shoutout to Louis and Lauren behind the bar for their excellent service—they truly brought the Wentworth dream to life! To top it off, when I accidentally spilled my drink, Louis replaced it for free without hesitation. Little things like this make such a difference. I can’t fault this place—highly recommend giving it a try!

We randomly came across The Wentworth Arms online when looking for a venue in Barnsley for our wedding. When we went to have a look, we completely fell in love with The Loft at The Wentworth Arms. It was the perfect venue which fitted in well with our rustic theme and we chose to have our ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception all there!! Lewis was our point of contact and wedding co-ordinator/organiser- he looked after us from day one. He was absolutely fantastic! Very attentive, professional, friendly and a really lovely person all round. Nothing was too much trouble and he made sure all mine and my husband’s needs were met. From the very first meeting, right up to the big day and even throughout, he was amazing! It wouldn’t have been the wedding day we had without him. We can’t thank him enough! Not only Lewis, but all the staff on that day were fantastic. Our family and friends had nothing but praise for everyone. They all catered for our needs and wants to perfection! We also want to show appreciation to the chef for the beautiful food which was served for our wedding breakfast (all requests were catered for) and the buffet food for our night do was equally as beautiful!! We arrive just before closing time Saturday night 22:45, bar staff friendly and had different drinks ti offer.

Perfect wedding venue. Private upstairs room with private bar. Brilliant!! Close to other pubs too.

What an amazing local, friendly pub. Went Saturday afternoon. Amazing atmosphere. Everyone extremely friendly. Staff couldn't do enough. Food was amazing and very reasonable. They even had a singer on later in the afternoon. A true community pub that welcomes 'not so local' people with open arms. And the clincher for me...dog friendly. Will definitely be going back x

We chose ‘The Loft’ at Wentworth Arms for our special day, our engagement party! Lewis the manager was amazing from first point of contact to the very end. He was so understanding, co operative, informative and kind. It was an honour to deal with Lewis and the company should be proud to have him. The food we had was a buffet, from in house, all the food was fresh, lovely tasting and perfect food choices to pick from. The overall was amazing and if you was looking to ever book a venue, I would highly recommend. Caitlin & Jake

This place is going down hill fast ! i took my dog in the beer garden to have a nice relaxing drink with my wife and child. My dog found a brown block of resin next to the water bowl and started chewing on it , we did not think anything of it until we got home and the dog collapsed and fell asleep and would not respond , so we took it to the vets who did a blood test and told us it was cannabis ! Some advice ... if you love your dog and you child keep them away from this dangerous place !!!

Lovely place. Food was great, massive portions that we couldn't finish and had to take home 😁 Pizza was beautiful, ribs and wings were good, but could have done with a bit more sauce. Cocktails were nice. It's a good place to visit if you have a dog 😊 Nice garden with plenty of space. We will come down again to check out the live music 😊

It's a while since I've been in a pub due to health issues, called in this week, shocked how much things have gone up, £4.40 x 2 for 2 pints of shandy, nice pub, but can't afford to go back here..

The live music was awful today, too loud and depressing. Couldn’t hear myself think never mind communicate with me friends.

Bottomless brunch ..poor food..burnt.. and not really bottomless as you have to queue for drinks so 2 cocktails and a couple of Prosecco for 35 pound ..not for me

Great for real ales, staff very knowledgeable and engaging. Great atmosphere on a sunny day. New menu avaliable and kitchen back upto speed now covid is no longer an issue.

Went in here for the first time, didn't eat but it's a really nice pub with a great beer garden for that one day of summer we get a year, would definitely recommend a visit and would like to try their food.

One of our favourite locals. The food and Service is always superb. Dog Friendly and great for hungry teenagers. My usual go-to are the amazing pizzas, but tonight, we chose lots of small plates to share. So much food. We were all stuffed. Delicious though.

Great local pub that caters to produce reasonable, well cooked food and good service. It is a great place to meet up with friends. They have music quizes every month.

We held an 80Th party in The Loft on the 23rd March. Fabulous.ous private room, the service was excellent as was the buffet. The organisation bt Keah and the bar staff was really efficient. Would highly recommend

From walking in to leaving everything was spot on, food was excellent same with the service and drinks.

I went for an interview between 10-12 nothing was said to except your late I arrived at 10.30 the way the interview came across that it was a group meeting. We was taken upstairs it was bitter cold we got offered a drink which excepted. We were told a talk at 11.15 nothing happened and a video call at 11.45 again nothing happened. When we came downstairs two people where sat watching a video one with a wentworth top on Nailmaker. I asked us to leave with no response why. Just let us out no goodbye nothing.

Lovely traditional pub. Very busy as Xmas but with a good atmosphere.

Unhelpful member of staff! Never been to the pub before but were attending a party in their function room - The Loft. Didn't know where that was so, went into the pub to ask for help. Member of staff - wearing a 'Wentworth' t-shirt - said she didn't know anything about a party or where The Loft was. Fortunately we met another person attending the party and they showed us where it was!

I recently had the displeasure of visiting this drug den! Let me tell my story! I was invited up to Barnsley, South Yorkshire, for my nieces 17th birthday. She went to use the Ladies bathroom, and returned to our table 10mins later..absolutely distraught! And in floods of tears! After calming her down, she explained what had happened. As she had opened the toilet cubicle to use it, she was faced with 2 females snorting white powder through a straw off the top of the toilet lid! She never spoke to them, just turned round and tried to leave. A that point one of the girls grabbed her by the arm, and threatened her that if she said anything, they would wait for her outside. When she explained this to me and her mother, we took this issue up with a person behind the bar. We were absolutely gobsmacked by their response. The response was, that if we Didn't like it, we could find somewhere else to drink! Absolutely unbelievable! I've never been treated like this anywhere before . Keep away from this place!

We recently hired out the loft function space at wentworth arms and it was a lovely space! We hired it out for a 1st birthday party as there wasn't a lot of kids so we wanted an adult friendly place too. They let us have some soft play in the area for the little ones and it all fit perfectly. Everyone loved the good! Pulled pork sandwiches were a great size and the pork pies, sausage rolls and chicken was amazing, even for the little ones! Will definitely use the venue again for another event!

I've not been in to try the drinks or food. However while working in the area I needed to visit a local shop for some insulation tape. I couldn't find anywhere to park without causing an obstruction. I was so glad to see a sign on the pub car park saying please use the car park for local shops while the pub is closed. Fair play to the owners management of the Wentworth Arms.

So happy the Kitchen has re-opened again with a cracking new menu! We had the meat feast (6 meat under) pizza on Saturday night and it was unreal. Loads of tasty topping. Delish. Living local to the Wentworth, we'll definitely be visiting more frequently now the food is back on

Had my girlfriend’s 21st birthday party here. Couldn’t have picked a better place. Great space, friendly staff, good set of drinks and just all round everything I wanted. Highly recommended (We didn’t have food by choice, hence why I haven’t rated that)

Went for an anniversary party, the bar prices I thought were a bit steep but the food was lovely.

Booked The Loft…Great Venue, great location…. Booked here for my mum and dads 50th Wedding anniversary in the afternoon this past Saturday.. Everyone had a fantastic time. Fantastic room for any event, and the staff are brilliant too. Thanks go out to Leah and Harry for all their hard work on the day, and support leading up to the day…. Bottomless brunch with friends, was a good deal and we enjoyed ourselves.

Asked if we would be having a second drink at 9pm and then last orders called at 9.30pm despite 4 tables in the beer garden ( a lovely evening) being occupied and 3 inside. Customers are obviously an inconvenience to the bar staff.

We had the bottomless brunch amazing value and fantastic staff would recommend and will be doing it again happy happy happy 5*

Had our wedding here at The Loft last Sunday and if I could do it all again I would in an instant. Absolutely fantastic venue and they couldn’t do enough for us. Very easy to contact and keep in touch with throughout any changes or questions we had. Food and drink was amazing and so was the atmosphere. Just want to say a special thank you to Harry, Leah and Sarah; from the moment we enquired up to the day itself they made sure it was a day to remember 😊

Went for a wedding and it was a really nice experience. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Lovely food and a good selection at the bar. They even let us take our doggie in and treated her nicely as well. Really professional and friendly. Helped make it a really special occasion. Thank You

Previously left a fair 3 stars stating "Nice friendly pub. Shame they don't offer food". No malice and a genuine appraisal However, I feel I now need to retract that due the passive aggressive attitude of the owner. Considering their hospitality profession you'd think they'd know how to communicate. I suspect their staffing issues is not down to covid but more the self inflicted working atmosphere. Needless to say they'll never see another penny of mine in any of their pubs.

Popped in on Saturday and the place was heaving, struggling to find a seat! Possibly because Oliver Harris was singing and he has a great following!

Vibrant bar in the village centre. Friendly locals and staff. A choice of real ales which were well kept. I would visit again if I was in the area.

We attended a private party at The Loft (a function room above the pub) this afternoon and it was spot on. Lovely little place, intimate but spacious enough with its own private bar. Really excellent.

Visited the Wentworth Arms for the Sunday pub quiz, which is great, and have been doing this with friends for the last four or so weeks. I’m vegetarian and, as the snacks behind the bar are a little limited, I usually also take a chocolate bar or something along, this has never been an issue. This week I’d bought a couple of drinks (Diet coke as I don’t drink alcohol) and some crisps from behind the bar, and also took with me a chocolate bar. Part way through the quiz I was approached by a man, who turned out to be the owner, who sharply told me, this was not a “bring your own buffet”. I have no issue with being told not to eat snacks not purchased in the pub, if that is the pubs policy, but it didn’t have to be explained in such a rude manner, so I decided to leave the pub. My friends also left at the same time. As we reached the other side of the pub car park, the owner decided he wasn’t done, and came out to further make his point. He explained I “nurse a pint of coke all evening” (I’d actually spent £10 in the 90 minutes I was there) I’m “not even a customer”, as I don’t spend enough and then tried to educate me on what pays the staffs wages. After it became apparent how unreasonable he was, we walked away. In summary, great quiz, lovely bar staff, very rude owner! I won’t be going back!

"Well you're not really customers you don't spend enough" Rude owner, was upset with us for bringing snacks which is fair enough if they're house rules but the attitude of the owner and the way he spoke to us was gross. *UPDATE TO CLARIFY SOME POINTS FROM THE OWNERS REPLY* - I'd got to the Wentworth at about 6pm, 2 hours before the quiz started my friends joined me at about 7 - I'd had 3 pints of coke by the time they arrived as I walked it from town. - The chinese takeaway my friend had brought and he bought a drink from the bar immediately after putting the food down. -The issue wasn't the food, it was the way the owner spoke to us that was the problem, and following us outside after we left to continue to speak aggressively. As the owner was drinking I think there's some confusion about the events as the confrontation took place outside, without his daughter after we'd left. I don't drink, and remember the events fairly clearly. The problem was not the policies around food but the way the owner behaved and spoke to us. Which we tried to explain outside away from other guests. I hope this clarifies things from our perspective :) *RE the 'nobhead comment* - If this was the issue, why was it not mentioned outside once? We were confused and surprised when we learned someone had meant to call you a nobhead. We thought initially you'd come to apologise for the tone as it seems logical you wouldn't want to lose custom? Esp as we've been coming for last 5-6 weeks every Sunday, with 3-6 of us and we'd planned to bring another couple of our friends the following weekend.

Great pub with a good sized outside seating area, very friendly staff. At quieter times would feel comfortable taking my little boy for a quick pit stop, though I prefer to visit in my child free time!

I wasn't expecting much today , but as soon as I arrived at the Wentworth Arms i was greeted , then asked to disinfect my hands & then shown to a table. The service was exceptional & the food was even better. To start with the menu is pricey so I was dubious, but when the food was served it was Angels 😇 in your mouth. Spent all afternoon in there n recommend it. 7 pints later im still in heaven . Saturday afternoon is all I can talk about but really enjoyed it . --- take a punt. 😅🙏🥦🍷🍺

Had a lovely time with friends but it was very difficult to talk to each other as a a group of people who had obviously been in for some time were very loud . It was Friday night and last orders were at 10pm so a bit disappointed as our evening was cut short .

Just called in for a pint or more after work with a mate in the beer garden. A perfect setting on good sized tables with very efficient and prompt table service. Great to have this place in Mapplewell.

Stopped it after a day at the YSP. Nice non-chain pub. Food seemed like it was made on site which was nice and was actually surprisingly good (if slightly on the unhealthy side). Decor and music were great and they had a nice selection of beers on tap. Overall would definitely go again if I was in the area.

Was waiting 1 hour to be served annoyed that other tables were being served twice in the time we were waiting . When we finally got our drinks ordered them again but was still waiting after 1 hour and 10 minutes so cancelled order and left Bad customer service it should not have took so long to be served May not go there until after complete lockdown over or maybe never

Booked in for a 2 hour slot tonight, got our seats then waited 45 minutes for a drink! The food came before our drink! Only managed to have 2 pints in 2 hour. I won't be returning anytime soon. Disappointed to say they've been closed for so long.....

Eat at the wentworth often the loft has just been opened up and refurbed it is a fantastic covid safe space food is out of this world. We ait here again on a Thursday evening had the sharing dishes which you can choose from a number of tapas style dishes we chose nachos the black pudding hash with fried egg on top ,chicken wings with sticky sauce chicken goujons with dipping sauce and potato croteques with blue cheese topping it was fabulous would highly recommend the place

Our first visit & very impressed with the food quality, atmosphere & great service. I can highly recommend the steak & ale pie, lasagne and chicken pizza. All of the meals were outstanding- thank you!

Mid week treat last night, a few drinks followed by dinner. The food here is very varied, they put different specials on too. It’s always very fresh and tasty 😋 and the service is professional but friendly. Can highly recommend The Wentworth Arms.

Had a lovely Saturday afternoon visit to The Wentworth beer garden. Fabulous food - pizza, burgers, fish and chips and chicken goujons - all first class. The brilliant, friendly staff are doing a great job organising service under the Covid restrictions, and we felt safe and relaxed the entire time we were there. So good to be back!

Overall, it was very disappointing, though the staff were lovely, the food was very basic (below wetherspoons standard) but presented nicely and there was 1hr40 minute wait with no notice of the wait time. We.. Were..hungry. But, even at a hungry level, I just can't justify paying £15 for 3 chicken strips, 2 fish fingers in a wrap (fish Tacos), and 6 dough balls that were bland. The chicken wings were tender but soggy and fatty... Would be more preferred if crispy. The best part were the onion rings which were lovely. I hope the food is nicer and worth the money in the future as we would have loved to have gone home with a full belly after that wait!

Lovely local pub servicing good quality food ,wide variety & some good mid week food offers.

Been with friends a few times. Food is never anything less than stunning. Because it's a traditional (I think Edwardian) pub, the seating is very "cosy"... Not recommended if you like privacy or don't want a stranger's leg rubbing against yours while you eat! Honestly need to try it, though.
