Nice old pub but food came in the wrong order starters after mains? Portion sizes not the best tasty food but who serves 1/2 a chicken fillet. We had heard great reviews about the places but I do not think we will be returning, bit disappointing.

We visited The Junction on 10/12/23 and were pleasantly surprised to find that it had upped its game!! The staff were pleasant, attentive and worked as a team - what a turn around since our last visit. Keep up the good work on the staffing front. The Sunday carvery was as delicious as ever.

The pub was very quiet with initially 5 waiting on staff until one member of staff went off duty. The service was appalling - staff walking around seemingly doing nothing whilst we were looking at dirty plates!!! We ordered one sweet which took an age to prepare although aesthetically pleasing to look at when it eventually arrived. I was thinking of telephoning the bar for my bill but someone arrived just in the nick of time. I usually leave at least 10 per cent tip but quite frankly this lot were not worthy of my hard earned cash!!!

Found this on the internet for a stop off lunch on our journey. Very polite welcoming staff with a good choice of drinks we sat outside in the large outdoor area. There is a nice area for children to play too. We had booked but it wasn’t very busy for a Bank Holiday at the time we visited. Good choice of food from steak to wraps. We had the carpetbagger steak and coated chicken both cooked to perfection and very tasty. Lots of interesting musical item around the pub and lots of weekly events advertised only wish we lived nearer to attend some. Would definitely recommend this place and reasonably priced too.

Ate “On spec” as we’d just called in after our dog walk, and we were not disappointed. Taylor’s farm burgers were delicious as was the piri piri pan fried chicken. Home made chips and deliciously fresh side salad. It’s a must if you fancy a bar meal in Rainford!

My partner and I have been coming here every Thursday evening for 2 years and i always ordered steak and ale pie chips and peas and been served a generous portion, last week i received the smallest piece of pie i have ever seen in my life (not even a child's portion)a handful of chips and half a plate of peas obviously to fill up the massive gap on the plate. Two complaints were made with nothing being done to rectify this or even an apology Needless to say my £110 per month i usually spend here will now be spent elsewhere.

This is a delightful hostelry in the village of Rainford Junction. Although it is just a couple of miles from the industrial town of St Helens you would feel you are in the middle of a rural village. Surrounded by fields, it has a train station with infrequent trains, no shops I don't think, a farm shop cafe and the Junction pub. So this is truly at the heart of the community I imagine. The pub has nice views to the back of it from the roof terrace but sadly this isn't a sun trap which is a shame....the sun trap is at the front but there is seating so you can sit and watch the traffic crossing the 5-way traffic light signalled single lane bridge (that's about all the entertainment you are getting around here).

We looked at the internet and saw double up days Monday and Tuesday stated starter or dessert free with any main, we asked the waitress if the offer included the chefs special on the board, told that the offer only applied from 5pm, nowhere on the menu it stated this. We went ahead and ordered the starters which were ok, my husband had the curry he said it was nice but not much balti and the chips were poor quality. I had the braised beef only option was chips with it. The meal came swimming in gravy the chips were a soggy mess. The gravy should be separate. The most annoying thing was the manager never came out just sent the waitress to say a printing error on menu and internet feel ripped off would never go again.

Food was amazing and such good quality at very reasonable prices, and the steak was the best I've tasted in a long time, plus a picture menu for the children, so they could identify the foods they wanted ( this was important for us having a young child from Belearuese staying with family at the moment) and younger children with us. A mixed party of 15 of us, including adults, children and dogs, visited on the Sunday afternoon before the May Day Bank Holiday. The Management had laid on family entertainment including prizes for children who had come dressed up, a bouncy castle, stalls and fairground rides and the huge field at the back. In addition, they had really talented singers performing and this all helped create a great atmosphere. We didn’t eat, so I can’t comment on the quality of the food, but the food is recognised locally as being very good, and we had a great time on a lovely sunny day.

Had a great meal here last Sunday. We stopped in here on a last minute decision. I do drink and eat here about once a month so I felt it about time to give a review- not a snapshot of one visit. We were out in Rainford at Sidings Lane park and having walked the dog we thought we all deserved a drink and a snack. That went out the window when we walked in and smelled- then saw- the sunday carvery. We opted for that as all thoughts of a snack went out the window-and glad we did. Fresh veg- not frozen- and a huge portion of beef that filled the plate. I enjoy cask ales and a pint of pheasant -that is well presented -tasted great. Being fussy over my beer i have only ever queried one pint that must have been the result of a barrel being disturbed. It was changed without any fuss, bother or huffing by the staff. They do have a range of cask ciders but I have never tried them. The staff are always friendly and have a ready smile. If you sit at the bar they will chat and converse as they go about their work. We enjoy our afternoons here and if the sun is out we go onto the upper terrace looking out over the countryside. My wife has bad knees so the lift is great for her. I believe the place is disabled friendly. She also comments on how clean the place is kept. Dogs are allowed in the bar but must be well behaved and on the lead. In all it's a quirky place that has good home made food and real ale. It's not "glammed up" or pretentious. It's a decent pub with plenty going on. Rainford train station and bus stop are within 50yds. I have had occasion to leave the car and the parking is secure and on cctv. It ticks all the boxes for us and doesn't break the bank for a lunch n beer. Russ Greenway.

We held my wife's 60th birthday party upstairs at the Junction in the function room. There were over 60 of us and the party was great. We chose our food from the buffet menu stressing the need for it to be good quality and piping hot. It was only a simple choice of burgers, sausages, hand cut chips, coleslaw and salad. There is a pretty wide choice but we wanted to keep it simple. Having seen a previous comment about the bread rolls served with burgers we queried this with the Landlord Paul. He said that after a few comments they had now changed to a brioche style roll which gave much more consistent results. They were spot on - and the food was hot. The burgers came from Taylors Butchers in Lathom and the sausages from Cooks Butchers in Rainford. As local people we knew exactly what good quality these were and we were not disappointed on the night.Paul helped us arrange a live Jazz trio and liaised with the group beforehand to make sure the set-up was just right. We chose our table layouts with advice from Paul and the room was just perfect.BTW it really is worth paying for a member of staff to run the bar for you upstairs. You don't have to have it but it saves the tramp up and down to the main bar which can be busy depending on the day of your function. Emily worked hard all night keeping the tables clear and making sure we had what we wanted. It is only a small bar upstairs but the selection was good. We even had a cask ale on - again ask Paul for advice.Just one other point a number of our guests have mobility problems. There is a lift up to the function room from the main bar (ask the staff where it is) and there are toilets up there as well. Well done Paul and the team you made our special night great.

There is lots going on here through out the year, but this time we just called in for a drink and a meal, as normal the food was good and the service was excellent, we would highly recommend the junction

Great pub grub, great music and really good atmosphere. Quiz on Mondays, open mic a couple of times a week, live bands on Saturday nights and lots of other musical events during the week.Needs to publicise events in a better way as I live on the same road and am not always aware of what's occurring, but that aside, well worth a visit.

Went there on a Friday night for dinner and open mike night a very enjoyable evening and unexpected as we were staying on a caravan site over the road and the village looked really quiet. Food was good value and the beer was great. Really enjoyed a pint of pheasant. Well worth a visit if passing through

I am absolutely disgusted with both the quality of food and service at this pub. Living locally to the pub and going in there regularly I have got to know some of the staff, therefore you would think that maybe I would receive better service - this is not the case, in fact my complaint just got brushed to the side and treated as a joke! Absolutely ridiculous! My complaint derived from the fact that I had taken my husband and stepson into the pub for an evening meal. My husbands food (even though it looked like it had been thrown on the plate) and stepson's food apparently tasted nice, mine on the other hand - a mixed grill (which is 14 pound and the most expensive thing on the menu), was totally substandard. Firstly, I asked for my steak medium rare, and it was served to me well done, and to be honest it was a cheap and nasty cut. The sausages were what I can only say were ASDA smart price and you could find better in your local chippy and the eggs had been on the hot plate for a while. Very disappointing for a lovely pub.

Food has unfortunately suffered again. Not sure if it is down to a new chef, or if the staff are spread too thinly with the restaurant / private functions to manage. Ordered pizza. It took an absolute age to arrive (40 mins +) and when it did, the middle wasn't cooked and it looked loaded with the carvery remnants. Cheesy chips were sent back as they had been microwaved to oblivion. A really shame, but I will not be eating here again until changes are made.

Great pub, has peroni on draft. Visited here on a hot sunny day with my partner. The roof terrace is great on a hot sunny day, the burger I had was cheap and cheerful, the only negative which stopped me giving 5 stars was mine and my partners bun on the burgers was stale or reheated in a microwave from frozen.

Enjoyed a nice Sunday lunch whilst out for a walk. Very friendly staff. Carvery was tasty and lovely well filled jacket potato. Apparently the beer selection is particularly worth a visit!

The Junction has a fine selection of ales to choose from, there is something to satisfy many differing pallets! The beer garden is very pleasant, and my little girl loves the bouncy castle. There are plenty of events organised by the Junction, including a Star Wars weekend a few weeks ago. Situated a mere five minutes walk from my house, its a place I like to visit as often as possible!

We came at short notice looking for a tasty Sunday lunch, we were not disappointed. The prices are very competitive and plenty of choice. There's a lot going on here with weekly events and specials as well. Banjo nights, singing around the piano nights, quiz and karaoke nights, etc. The Sunday we went there was a Star Wars themed event in the field behind and next month there are car events planned.... an American Classic day and a separate Classic and veteran event. Well worth Google-ing them to see what's coming up. Two main courses, two sweets, two drinks each and all for £35. A bargain.

We have become a real fan of the Juction, been quite a few times, we booked a table for Mother's Day. Sunday carvery really good with fresh veg, not frozen or tinned. Was a little disappointed that they put 4 of us on a very small table. It's our fault we should have asked to move. The table behind us was only reserved from 3pm we where there at 1pm. Next time we would ask to be moved, but this basic customer service.

Credit where credit is emphatically due! We popped in for breakfast the other morning, only to be met by what can only be described as a phalanx of the friendliest staff you could ever wish to encounter. And, my word, what a breakfast it was! A truly resplendent English spread, in a pub that exuded charm and individuality. None of this soulless, microwave 'ping' malarkey you get with the dreary chain establishments. No, no, this was the real McCoy—proper British hospitality, by Jove! An absolute triumph and a welcome respite from the mundane. Bravo!

What a fabulous meal we enjoyed last evening. Food, drinks, service, music were all first class. We were amazed that they could serve approx 200 people with hot food. Fast service at the bar too, with plenty of friendly bar staff. And we had a lovely 'full english' breakfast in the morning.
