The service, the atmosphere and the quality of food are second to none. The chef and staff show a care and a passion for food and people and this shines through. Even added a special touch at the end of our meal for our anniversary. Simply perfect and the table was so lovely too. Thank you.

This was a wonderful evening in every way. The meal exceeded our expectations, in choice, style and most importantly, taste. The ambience was perfect and also friendly. We would recommend Langley Hall to anyone who wanted a special occasion meal.

What is the best way to explain how excellent a restaurant is? I find the best criterion is the rolls! - A (possibly stale) white roll already on the plate is a poor restaurant - A roll served from a bread basket is an average restaurant - Chefs own flavoured bread baked in a mini loaf tin and served on a wooden platter indicates a pretentious trendy restaurant serving trendy (but only OK) food - A choice of lovely freshly baked rolls from a basket is a very good restaurant - Then there is Langley Castle's Josephine restaurant - they wheel over a trolley with three loaves of bread (still warm when we went!) for you to choose from, and they cut you as many slices as you want. (I chose the bread with black olives, and the granary!) The rest of the meal is as excellent as the bread! Need I say more? Enjoy the bread! Don't be afraid to try all three or to ask for more! You will enjoy whatever you choose from the menu! Paul

Superb range of fine dining food on the menu. Stayed one night in the hotel and enjoyed the restaurant's ambience, food and service. Very much in keeping with Langley Castle overall. Easy to see why it enjoys the return visitors that it does.

This is arguably the best hotel restaurant that i have eaten in . Each course was delicious even though i wasn't exactly sure what i was going to get . I had Gnocchi to start which was tasty & very light . I followed this with Stone Bass which was different to other fish but delicious . For dessert I had Pear Tart Tatin which was beautiful . I had the Chianti Riserva Vino which was excellent . All in all a fabulous meal !!

The glass house was fully booked by a hunting party, so we ate in Josephine's, but off the glass house menu, good steaks, good fish, nice burgers, great service for a lively group.

We dined at Josephine the two nights that we stayed at the castle. Reception was excellent. Our orders were taken, and we had drinks, in the medieval-themed drawing room. We were then taken to a sumptuous dining room that included intimate nook tables. Dinner began with a superb amuse bouche of cold pea soup with a perfect cube of tangy feta, and perfectly textured sourdough bread. Appetizers were perfectly seared scallops with a bit of crispy chicken for a sweetish contrast. My companion had beef carpaccio with herbed crust surrounded by fava beans. Our entrees were a succulent lamb dish, and goat cheese ricotta with shrimp, corn and mushroom jus. Dessert was a lemon tart with raspberries, and a cheese plate, served with candied walnuts, honeycomb, grapes and chutney. On the second night we began with foie gras and a luscious lobster risotto with green peas, then shared a perfectly cooked chateau briand with peppercorn sauce. Dessert was chocolate mousse with passion fruit curd ice cream, and a delectable dark chocolate mousse. Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. Part of the pleasure of dining here is the atmosphere of medieval finery. I'm delighted to say that the quality and inventiveness of the food is also up to excellent standards. The castle and restaurant provided two very memorable nights.

Dined in the Josephine restaurant as part of our stay at Langley Castle. Pre dinner drinks were served in the splendor of the 1st floor drawing room prior to descending to the restaurant. We were seated in a quaint alcove with superb ground views. Complimentary amouse bouche of ham hock and apple was tasty and unexpected. Starters were disappointing and my wife's chicken was undercooked. We ordered the chateubriand for main course and this was the "wow" factor.Tastiest beef we have ever had and the most sublime triple cooked chips. Dessert was a bit run of the mill but the main overshadowed the rest of the meal. We were attentively and professionally served by Andrew who ensured our glasses were never empty and patiently described our food choices as they were served. A very pleasant evening.... Breakfast was also good and the kippers were very tasty and complimented by a perfectly cooked poached egg. Plenty of choice and again excellent service....

The meal was good though unfortunately our main course fish was sadly overcooked which we did point out to our waiter. We were situated in the glass restaurant adjoining the main room which did not have the same character unfortunately.

Beautiful surroundings and very professional service. The staff are very informative and friendly. The breakfast is exceptional with choices of both continental and full English. You can itemise your breakfast to suit your taste. You can request an alternative evening menu to the alacarte, which also has varied options. Highly recommend.

My wife and I had dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was fantastic with a classy feel about it. My wife said the Halibut was the best she had tasted and the pudding was everything she loves, liquorice , gingerbread and roasted fig. The service was brilliant and very attentive especially Aiden who talked us through everything on the menu. You will not be disappointed.

Excellent restaurant - easily deserves its 2 AA Rosettes. We ate here 3 nights in a row, and were not disappointed. Menu is limited to 4/5 starters, ~6 main courses: but this is not an issue, as the quality of each meal was excellent.

Dined in the restaurant on both evenings of our recent stay. On booking you are asked to be in the drawing room on the 1st floor around 20 mins prior to make you choices and be served your canapés. On each evening a different selection was served. The wine list is extensive but with a range of good affordable options, both by the glass and bottle; the Chilean Merlot was a good choice. The room itself is on the ground floor, ornate and atmospheric. There are tables for two set into alcoves and window recesses along with tables in the "body" of the room. Our choices over the 2 nights included for starters; foie gras - served with cherries to cut the richness, pigeon, scallops - which were particularly good, served with asparagus, cured ham and a lemon dressing. Mains we had included; Hake - crispy skin and accompanied by a lovely creamy tarragon scented sauce, stone bass, rabbit and the lamb - perfectly cooked, pink and moist. The desserts are very good so leave room! The Tart is light and not too filling, the Brulee has a superb strawberry "soup", The Chocolate, rich and smooth but our star was the fantastic take on Apple crumble, trust me, you must try it.Good food accompanied by really professional, friendly service at very reasonable prices for this standard, You will pay a lot more for this standard in Edinburgh or Newcastle.

We got married here 16years ago and regularly return for meals, coffee and afternoon tea. The castle is beautiful and full of character and furnished perfectly. The food is amazing with a choice of set menus or a la carte. Service is good, attentive but not overbearing. Children's menu is very reasonable making it a good place to take children if they are up for a formal dining experience. Ours love it.

As part of our recent stay at the Langley Castle we ate at the Josephine Restaurant and were not disappointed. We were served tasty appetizers before our meal and the meal itself is made with high quality ingredients and the chef should be complemented in serving up such wonderfully intricate dishes. The service in the Restaurant matches that at the hotel itself and is to a very high standard. Will certainly dine here again

Staying at the castle for 2 nights but only dined first evening then again for two breakfasts. Nibbles are served with pre dinner drinks, quaint crispy things. The canapes which were delicious, ham hough baby potato type cakes and cheese profiteroles, then at the table an amuse bouche of a creamed cauliflower with cute wee bread loaves and butter. As for the main and dessert menus , very good choices and so very delicious. In beautiful surroundings with very attentive and friendly staff.

I had the pleasure of dining at Josephine's restaurant during my stay. Beautifully presented food with fantastic flavours I had the cod korma for starters it was lovely. My husband had the chocolate cake for desert which was so light but with great flavour. The staff are a credit to the restaurant as they take time to explain your dish, but never seem rushed. The breakfasts are very good too, with a great selection.

Eaten here twice and enjoyed immensely both times. It feels very special eating in the restaurant in such lovely surroundings. The chef obviously tries to go a little overboard with the fusions of different foods, not sure the bitter chocolate tart with parsnip puree and parsnip ice cream was a little too much for my palate.

What can I say? I gushed about this beautiful romantic retreat on my anniversary. Just as the first time I can not tell you how much of a delight this place is. The staff are wonderful and attentive, the bar staff were a treat. Anton the General Manager was, as ever informative, friendly and as always passionate about the Castle, it's staff, the food etc. As it was my birthday we received a beautiful glass of champagne and he also sang "Happy Birthday" to me. He even convinced my husband to try something on the A La Carte menu which he would not have even considered (and he liked it too). The Josaphine Resteraunt with its new chef has the most amazing and excellently presented food, Andrew is the most wonderful host, nothing escapes him, your empty glass is refilled and food arrives promptly. The festive atmosphere was the icing on the cake, I have once again had the best time and I'm sure it won't be too long before we revisit.Thank you Anton,Kind regards and see you soon Joanne and Andy Czibor :0)

I was recommended the Bari Tea Brewery by a friend and was not disappointed. The range of teas on offer was vast with many interesting flavours! I had the green ginger tea with a scone which was freshly baked and was very tasty! Service was very good and all the staff very friendly.

What a wonderful place to have a cup of tea! We were visiting the Heritage Centre next door and were taken in by the quirkiness of the idea and decided to have lunch in the carriage. We were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming young man who gave us a few minutes to make our lunch choice. The tea was served in a traditional tea pot in “proper” china tea cups which was just perfect. Our food choices were soup and a cheese scone, ham and cheese sandwich and a sausage and bacon bun, all presented lovely and totally delicious. We were on holiday in the area and wish we live closer as I’d visit all the time. The prices were very reasonable and the service from the staff faultless.
