The Joseph Conrad in Waveney

Ordered the new sticky Korean fried chicken bowl with coconut rice. The meal turned up let’s say as dry as the Sahara desert, politely asked the manager (Matty) on at the time if this could be rectified and he said “it looks sticky to me” even the picture has more Korean style sauce on it as seen,and I said also I had this exact meal a week ago and it was far more sticky but he wouldn’t budge and after a fashion the only option was to BUY more sauce. Ridiculous. Not my best experience of Wetherspoons Lowestoft

Good pint when we eventually got it. Ordered on the app. Waited for 20 mins and nothing came. Went to the bar and they said it had gone out! Delivered to the wrong table. Said they would make up the order again and went back. Still nothing. Had to go back to the bar again and the guy had “forgot” Shame about the service. Order at the bar next time!!!

Went to the joseph conrad and had a wonderful being served by Becca and Riley. Service was so wonderful we had to buy them a drink ! Service will a smile and a good laugh all round !

Service is painfully slow. Staff are nice enough but there aren't enough of them. What makes it worse is the number of employees wandering about doing I'm not quite sure what.

If you are disabled and require assistance because you are on crutches and cannot carry a cup yourself do not go to this Wetherspoons. Today I was told that despite it being 8.55 in the morning they couldn’t help me with a cup from the coffee machine because it was football today. The restaurant was half empty and the TVs were not switched on and they flatly refused to help a person who walks with two crutches with a cup from the coffee machine. When I asked to speak to the manager, he eventually said they would help me “ This one time”. But I thought don’t put yourself out mate and I asked for a refund. Next time I will do it myself and this will result in me pouring coffee all over the floor which is clearly what they want. Obviously, they have plenty of time to clear up spillages, although I would’ve thought it would be quicker just to help as person than to be so rude and unhelpful as to refuse. But it’s okay I work for Lbc and BBC radio so this will be being broadcasted about In the next few weeks, if I don’t get a satisfactory response to my complaint from their Head Office

A couple of beers and some snacks. A big shout out for Jacquie who is the hardest working person we have ever seen. Constantly clearing tables and delivering food all with a great big smile and a cheery chat.

Dirty tables and floors. Had to clean ourselves with toilet roll. One man at bar serving everyone. Drinks we wanted were downstairs. Still waiting 20 minutes later. Not his fault. He was still serving. Would not eat in here it is so dirty. Avoid.

We went into this place after we were unable to get into the fish and chip shop round the corner. Having travelled from Birmingham, we were really looking forward to some decent fish and chips. All I can say is that the fish looked like it had been sitting around for ages and had then been given a quick fry to heat it up before serving. It was just a lot of hard and difficult to cut through batter. There was hardly any fish to be seen. The chips were average. We have never had a bad meal at a Wetherspoons but this was absolutely dreadful. We ate it as I hate sending food back. Would not recommend though.

The manageress didn't seem in control of the customers or the drunks inside and outside of the place- directly outside the door was a big bunch of drunks! The manageress didn't even ask them to move. Every time I have passed the place is full of drunks loitering at the door- the manageress or manager don't do anything about this. The drunks are literally blocking the door and they are so so drunk. There is often drunk fighting outside when I have passed too. What a Dive!

Brilliant service for a family birthday meal. There were 14 of us and we were well looked after. Moving tables to accommodate us. Courtney was amazing at helping us.

My BBQ chicken eight inch pizza came with a large beer to which I added a side salad. Total cost was GBP10.45. Very reasonable. Many others were having dinner here. A few commuters arriving at Lowestoft's historic railway station by Greater Anglia railcars popped in for a drink. Staff were friendly. These Wetherspoon pubs are great value. In contrast, Taco Bell opposite was empty.

Ordered a lasagna and it came completely burnt underneath and it was impossible to cut through. Would not recommend!

Ain’t no more, been visiting this pub on and off for years, well time isn’t doing it any favours. Not enough staff, the ones actually working look worn out and totally demoralised. The breakfast is Luke warm, beans like the arctic, how can that be? It all comes from the same kitchen. Things have slowly been going downhill for a while, seems like it’s in free fall in the last few months 🥲

Food was great and the lovely lady named Rachel was absolutely incredible, she seemed to be the only one serving, rushed off her feet and still had a smile on her face! My only complaint is the lift didn't work which made getting a pram upstairs difficult!

We went to The Joseph Conrad on 31July for a couple of drinks on our way to a local Chinese restaurant. 3 adults , 1 15yrold , 1 12yrold. Lots of tables had glasses etc. that needed clearing. Bar staff were plesant. All was good until we returned again at approx. 9.45. Got our drinks but then about fifteen minutes later we were approached by ( who i was told afterwards was the manager) and informed we would not be served any more drinks as children were not allowed on the premises after 9.30. The manager had a camera type item hanging from his neck which had.... Video and Audio written on it. I was told then at the bar that we would not be served even though we offered to have a drink at a table outdide the premises. I asked then how long this manager had been here and was told about 10 years. He must have been off whenever else we were in , as we had never seen him before. We have being to The Joseph Conrad on and off since it opened. I queried the time for children to be off the premises with the manager as there were no visible sings about this , and the fact we were actually served after 9.30 . When I asked him how long this rule was in his reply was ... 'Always - I THINK'. To Wetherspoons I say -- Make your rules CLEAR , Make staff aware that they cannot serve people with children after 9.30pm and not serve , take the money , and they say thats it. If the 'children' were noisy or a nuisance it would be different , unlike what you get earlier in the day at The Joseph Conrad.

Food was miserable at best, luke warm. My table received all their food, apart from one dish being a burger, no explanation from the floor team staff, after about five minutes with no food or explanation my partner asked if they had the final plate of food on it’s way to which they just said “yeah, should be down soon”. About 15 minutes pass, still no food or an apology, shame as the staff seemed lovely but had no motivation to communicate with their customers about the wait. I saw several other burgers being delivered to tables and one lonesome one that was left to sweat under their hot hold the entire time that I was waiting for my meal. After about 25/30 minutes my food finally came, the others had already finished their food which was a bit naff to say the least. My chips were piping hot so credit to be given there but the burger itself was sad and barely warm. To be totally honest, I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of complaining and waiting for fresh as it would have been another 25 minutes and I was hungry and frustrated. To be frank, this place used to be and enjoyable and affordable pub but has dwindled massively downhill recently. Needs more focus on customer service training, needs more staff running orders and more importantly needs better management with clear direction and focus. Miserable service and miserable food.

Rude manager, young lad serving food was trying his best with no help from anyone. Very busy so went to use upstairs seating to be spoken to by the manager in a rude manner to not go upstairs as it was full (even though there was plenty of tables free when I went to the toilet, seemed he couldn't be bothered to serve upstairs) Had to sit down at a dirty table, never came out to wipe it so had to ask. Cleanliness should be priority, should have left there and then as breakfast was cold on arrival. Food missing, other tables complained for the same issue. Manager was more interested in serving the young girls and allowing toddlers to walk into the kitchen! Could hear him talking about customers moaning because they had missing items. Health and safety is non existent.

This place has certainly gone downhill the managers think they are invincible and ive never seen a place which have so many staff who look so unhappy.

I'm 17 but have just been able to order off the app a double rum and lemonade. I did not get asked for my age they just ploped in down infront of me and died into the kitchen service area for a chat.

Absolutely terrible service, we sat on table 303 ordered our food, waited an hour, on two occasions we had to ask where the food was as we had to be at the theatre, lovely lady who is clearly working understaffed keep saying it’s now coming down. When it eventually came out our fish and chips were cold and the fish was inedible! As we had to be at the theatre there was no time to complain because we’d had to wait so long. The place was not busy for a Saturday night. Come on Wetherspoons your standards are slipping!! The pictures are after I’d tried to find some fish!!

Although we were relieved to find somewhere serving lunch after 2pm, it was disappointing that many of the menu options had run out. Service was cheerful and helpful enough and Wetherspoons is always good value, but hard to give an above average rating.
