Fabulous Sunday lunch, traditional English country pub, lovely food and really friendly service. My son didn't come with us as he is revising his exams so they kindly packed us up with his favourite beef lunch and sticky toffee pudding to take home with a sweet message! He loved it, thank you! Nothing was too much trouble. Even the dogs got a treat! Would highly recommend!

In other words a proper country pub and full of character Thank you Sara and your team- it was a lovely experience today.

If you’d like wholesome quality food at affordable prices with great Yorkshire puddings then the J/F stew and pudding night is just what all the local people should be treating themselves to , on a night like to night -3 spot on , and if your not local then it’s worth the trip out . We were staying close by in the caravan and came for Fish Friday. We had a small plate starter of garlic mushrooms on eggy bread which was absolutely stunning so much that we could have eaten more but needed to try the fish and so glad we did - huge portion of haddock, seasoned chips and garden or mushy peas. Great. Friendly service and food so good we booked for Sunday lunch. Fab that they serve a roast early evening. Even fabber that you can have a mixed roast - pork loin and roast beef, crispy cracking, large Yorkshire pud, fresh seasonal veg and roasties. It was wonderful. Great beer too! A real hidden gem of a place that is a must visit if you’re in the area

Extra convenient is the AirBnb next door , 20 yards away that belongs to Dan too! Well worth a trip - in fact a couple were in form Australia who had heard reviews about it, so good news travels far and wide.

Booked a table via Facebook with a prompt confirmation & were treated to a friendly welcome. Menus are on blackboards strategically placed to reduce COVID handling which is a first for us & a brilliant idea. Tapas was thursdays menu & the portions were really generous. Our 5 year old enjoyed the fish goujons & the popcorn chicken. The staff, including the chefs were really friendly & couldn’t have been more accommodating & the sunset cottage they rent out at the rear looks fabulous too. Cost was very reasonable too; I was gutted to miss out on the beef stew with a free 2nd helping (hopefully next time)!

Always a treat to be back at the Jollies but this evening was extra special. That the team had gone to great lengths to make everyone welcome and feel safe was great but the added treat of a new taster menu was above and beyond. I think it's being changed a bit every so often but the offers last night were delicious. Fish gaugeons, patatas bravas and black pudding fritters is probably where we should have drawn the line but no we went for the wild garlic houmous and flatbread, asparagus risotto too and were happily stuffed with yummy food.

This was a second visit as they made a mistake last time we were there we paid for someone else's meal so we had credit, last time was ok can not fault the steak. The onion rings were salty and they had ran out of home made chip so had French fries? (not brilliant) On our return tonight the steak was good but one of the wood board that the steak was served on was split and looking very used and the blood had ran through onto the table so we asked if it could be cleaned up the waitress just brought a napkin and dropped it on the table for us to clean up hmm!!? Having seen the reviews on google we decided to visit this picturesque part of North Yorkshire (55miles) and dine at the Jolly Farmers, it was 2 pm Sunday when we arrived, it was quiet busy as you would expect on a Sunday, quickly decided on two roast beef dinners and a prawn cocktail. Our enthusiasm began to fade after 30 minutes and the starter had not arrived it came after 40 minutes then we waited and waited and finally after over 1 hour our main courses arrived and again disappointment crept in because the roast potatoes looked awful and the skin well you could have used a saw to cut into them, the rest of our meal was OK nothing special. Nobody apologised for the wait so perhaps this is normal but not in my book.

Everyone said how much they’d enjoyed their food, particularly the two who’d ordered the belly pork dish - both said it was the best they’d ever had! Presentation of the food was lovely too, with a good choice of options to suit most people. Service was good; polite, attentive and accommodating. Kitchen and pub were also hosting another 50 people for a birthday party in a separate area but this didn’t impact on our experience and food was served in good time and no issues with quality. They even sent my dessert out with a birthday candle! I’d definitely recommend a trip to sample the food, and everyone else in our party said they’d like to eat there again too.

Many years since I was last here. The bar part of the pub doesn't seem to have changed - very small, friendly with good local beers and pleasant wine as well as all the other drinks you would expect. We had a bottle of pleasant red to go with the meal and ate in the dining area. Don't expect an enormous choice on the menu -everything is home cooked and delicious. We both had a starter salad - one was Stilton with pear and very fresh salad leaves and the other was pigeon breast, bacon and salad leaves. Very tasty and substantial. The pigeon melted in the mouth. For main course my partner had belly pork cooked to perfection and I had rabbit pie which was very tasty. The veg was also delicious. My only criticism regarding the pie was that it was served separately in a very hot metal dish which made it difficult to deal with. I do much prefer to have a pie placed on the dinner plate. It was slightly easier when I asked for a spoon- surprised it was necessary to ask. The seating arrangement could have been better - the dining area is not massive and our table for two was situated almost in the doorway of the dining area which was draughty and a lot of tooing and froing of staff and customers which was a bit distracting when trying to have a conversation. However would certainly go again.

We eat here regularly, and it's always been exceptional - in service and quality. The food is DELICIOUS. I would happily eat the gorgeous kids meals if it wasn't for the fact that the grown up meals are so damned good. Their steak is exceptional, their rabbit pie is fantastic and their Sunday carvery is outstanding.

Would it be sad to move to a village just for its pub?

Family group of seven adults. Booked (definitely recommended you so do) as Saturday early evening. Pub and dining areas full, mostly locals and a very good atmosphere. Food very good, service excellent and a good choice of beer. I ask for nothing more. Have used this pub before and never been disappointed. Great pub in a nice village. We live not too far away but the drive their is very scenic, be prepared for getting stuck behind farm traffic though.

Scampi and rabbit pie bit the mark -9/10. Beer in the zone. 8/10. Staff very helpful 9/10. The front bar is just a tad intimidating to walk through, but close your eyes and enjoy the comfortable atmosphere inside.

By far the best pub in our Northern trip; friendly, good food, speedy service and attentive staff. Hard to fault this one. Steak and Ale pie excellent and the most enormous portion of fish I've ever seen. Delicious too.

We were given this as a recommendation for our first night's meal while staying at Burythorpe. The pub is Tardis-like with a number of rooms branching off the main bar area. We went with the restaurant menu - all courses priced the same other than the steak. I had a warm, seasonal salad with poached egg and new potatoes, and Little Mr S partook of the lemon and garlic chicken with roasted new potatoes. This was all cooked to order and in order, so we had about 30 minutes to wait, but it was very much worth it. My salad was huge, well cooked and beautifully seasoned and dressed. My other half's chicken was moist (cleverly they cooked thighs) and the potatoes moreish - again, it was a very healthy portion. So, I think it's fair to say that this place cares about ingredients and cooking them carefully and sympathetically. Well worth a visit. Two mains and two soft drinks came in at under £30.

During a recent stay in a rental cottage just outside York, we were recommended to the Jolly Farmers Inn for Sunday lunch; put simply it was a brilliant recommendation. The food is excellent - well cooked, generous portions, plus good beers and friendly service, a real Yorkshire country pub located in a beautiful part of the world.(If you do visit the Jolly Farmers Inn you must try the yorkshire pudding/raspberries/hot white chocolate sauce desert, it was simply amazing).Nice pub, good, straight forward food, what else is there to say.

This is my second visit to the Jolly Farmers, and again won't be my last. I visited for dinner this time with 2 friends, infact we drove up from Notts on a very pleasant evening for an early meal. we arrived to a buzzing bar with very welcoming locals enjoying a Saturday natter and drink. in some places there would have been a deathly silence when a "foreigner" walked in, but here we were found a space to sit in the cosy bar, near the log fire which was very welcoming on this chilly May evening.we got drinks, and the evenings menu, with the blackboard specials being pointed out. we ordered at the table in the light, and ( sorry that word again) welcoming dining room which was set up for a couple of larger groups as well as us. I chose the poached pear, yorkshire blue cheese and walnut salad, then cornfed chicken with wild garlic , mushroom sauce and a scrummy fondant potato. Yummy describes both courses. the rhubarb cheesecake in a glass was also excellent, and the pot of proper tea to conclude was a fitting end to a very nice meal. Thanks to DAn and all the staff. The large group of diners next to us were also enjoying their meals heartily, we craned our necks to see what they had chosen... i saw very big fish & chips which were ooo'd and ahh'd over. The loos were clean and smelled fresh, and the place was filling up with drinkers and diners for a busy saturday evening. I can't wait to come back

We visited on Saturday evening and the lady behind the bar managed to find us a table even though we hadn't booked and they were busy. The burgers were absolutely amazing and so many chips we couldn't finish them all. The scampi with hand cut chips was also great. Lovely country pub atmosphere.
