Spontaneous visit! I called and asked if we could have a table for 12 o clock but they don’t actually open until 12.30. A few people were waiting for it opening. Excellent service from the moment we walked in our dog was made a fuss of and given a treat. We were shown to our table and our orders taken very efficient and friendly service. We both ordered the Roast my partner had beef and I had pork and beef. It arrived with the biggest yorkie pud I’ve ever seen and the crispiest roast potatoes and lovely gravy (and crackling!!) A delicious meal 10/10 all round would definately recommend.

Stayed with family in Malton and after we had booked somewhere else, we were told to cancel that we are going to The Jolly Farmers. Well, arrived at 6pm and it was like a Saturday evening, it was a Sunday, and it was buzzing. Lots of people eating and drinking and the atmosphere was great. Served quickly, then food orders taken promptly. Food arrived soon after and ‘wow’! We had the roast dinners and what a show. Mixed veg, roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding with gravy to die for. The veg was all fresh and seasoned perfectly. I even asked for some extra crackling as I had beef, not pork, but within seconds it arrived. This place is a real pub, real food, real people with an old fashioned environment that made us feel well and truly welcomed. It’s a must visit.

The best Sunday lunch we've had anywhere! Tender, lean meats, immense and perfectly cooked Yorkshire puddings, superb roasties and veg - and the finest gravy of them all. The desserts are similarly sublime (if you can fit them in!) and the service is outstanding. Very highly recommended.

Moving not too far from Jolly Farmers Inn and we have never been to this area. Good old Tripadvisor gave us some ideas on where to eat. This was the place with the best reviews, so we chose to stop here. The staff were very accommodating, and friendly. The food was really good, although the boys who had fish and chips did say it was well cooked but lacked flavour. I had the roast beef, and it was lovely. Beautiful flavours and that veg on the side was amazing. Perfect. It was well worth the money and the experience. Thank you for having us. Gluten free options too - how lovely.

We’ve been to The Jolly Farmers a couple of times over the years for Sunday lunch, which has been excellent. Yesterday was our first time for an evening meal. On arrival we were immediately made welcome and offered a range of hand pulled beers and wines. The menu was a mix of small plates and main meals many of which I would describe as pub classics. Mum chose the fish and chips with mush peas, my partner had battered prawns and chips, I went with the steak, mushroom and ale pie with mushy peas and proper chips. The main courses were that good we all agreed to have a dessert, something we rarely do. My partner went with the rhubarb cheesecake, I chose the rice pudding with brûlée style too and jam, mum had ice cream. The service was great, efficient, friendly, chatty and informative. We cannot fault anything. Highly recommended and we will be back soon.

We were staying close by in the caravan and came for Fish Friday. We had a small plate starter of garlic mushrooms on eggy bread which was absolutely stunning so much that we could have eaten more but needed to try the fish and so glad we did - huge portion of haddock, seasoned chips and garden or mushy peas. Great. Friendly service and food so good we booked for Sunday lunch. Fab that they serve a roast early evening. Even fabber that you can have a mixed roast - pork loin and roast beef, crispy cracking, large Yorkshire pud, fresh seasonal veg and roasties. It was wonderful. Great beer too! Menus are on blackboards strategically placed to reduce COVID handling which is a first for us & a brilliant idea. Tapas was thursdays menu & the portions were really generous. Our 5 year old enjoyed the fish goujons & the popcorn chicken. The staff, including the chefs were really friendly & couldn’t have been more accommodating & the sunset cottage they rent out at the rear looks fabulous too. Always a treat to be back at the Jollies but this evening was extra special. That the team had gone to great lengths to make everyone welcome and feel safe was great but the added treat of a new taster menu was above and beyond. I think it's being changed a bit every so often but the offers last night were delicious. Fish gaugeons, patatas bravas and black pudding fritters is probably where we should have drawn the line but no we went for the wild garlic houmous and flatbread, asparagus risotto too and were happily stuffed with yummy food.

This was a second visit as they made a mistake last time we were there we paid for someone else's meal so we had credit, last time was ok can not fault the steak. The onion rings were salty and they had ran out of home made chip so had French fries? (not brilliant) On our return tonight the steak was good but one of the wood board that the steak was served on was split and looking very used and the blood had ran through onto the table so we asked if it could be cleaned up the waitress just brought a napkin and dropped it on the table for us to clean up hmm!!? The chips this time were home made but very hard and tasteless, aswell as other things we will not be going back again.

Having seen the reviews on google we decided to visit this picturesque part of North Yorkshire (55miles) and dine at the Jolly Farmers, it was 2 pm Sunday when we arrived, it was quiet busy as you would expect on a Sunday, quickly decided on two roast beef dinners and a prawn cocktail. Our enthusiasm began to fade after 30 minutes and the starter had not arrived it came after 40 minutes then we waited and waited and finally after over 1 hour our main courses arrived and again disappointment crept in because the roast potatoes looked awful and the skin well you could have used a saw to cut into them, the rest of our meal was OK nothing special. Nobody apologised for the wait so perhaps this is normal but not in my book.

Everyone said how much they’d enjoyed their food, particularly the two who’d ordered the belly pork dish - both said it was the best they’d ever had! Presentation of the food was lovely too, with a good choice of options to suit most people. Service was good; polite, attentive and accommodating. Kitchen and pub were also hosting another 50 people for a birthday party in a separate area but this didn’t impact on our experience and food was served in good time and no issues with quality. They even sent my dessert out with a birthday candle! I’d definitely recommend a trip to sample the food, and everyone else in our party said they’d like to eat there again too.

Many years since I was last here. The bar part of the pub doesn't seem to have changed - very small, friendly with good local beers and pleasant wine as well as all the other drinks you would expect. We had a bottle of pleasant red to go with the meal and ate in the dining area. Don't expect an enormous choice on the menu -everything is home cooked and delicious. We both had a starter salad - one was Stilton with pear and very fresh salad leaves and the other was pigeon breast, bacon and salad leaves. Very tasty and substantial. The pigeon melted in the mouth. For main course my partner had belly pork cooked to perfection and I had rabbit pie which was very tasty. The veg was also delicious. My only criticism regarding the pie was that it was served separately in a very hot metal dish which made it difficult to deal with. I do much prefer to have a pie placed on the dinner plate. It was slightly easier when I asked for a spoon- surprised it was necessary to ask. The seating arrangement could have been better - the dining area is not massive and our table for two was situated almost in the doorway of the dining area which was draughty and a lot of tooing and froing of staff and customers which was a bit distracting when trying to have a conversation. However would certainly go again.

The Jolly Farmers is genuine to the core, a real country pub, genuinely old and rustic with great character .

I have written about the Jolly Farmers before. It is our go to treat and it has never failed to deliver a great atmosphere, kind service and scrummy food of an order just not found round here very often. This time we had our vegans amongst the party - I rang ahead as I amused to them ending up eating bread but it was hardly necessary - three great choices of starter, main and puds. The starter with pickled rape flowers and asparagus was just divine.

Just eaten the best food out for a long time. Hearty portions that were very tasty. Hubby went for the pork belly which was a great recommendation. Service was faultless and it was a particularly busy evening. My only regret- that we don’t live closer to go frequently.

Consistently provide above average food. It might be a little country village pub but the food always tastes outstanding, is presented beautifully, and very fairly priced for the standard.

The Jolly Farmers once again excels in creating a grate atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. The York Brewery Guzzler was superb and the hospitality shown was second to none. A wonderful fire and outstanding nibbles made a lovely evening. Thank you The Jollys.

Recently held a working lunch here for 20 people, the pub opened up especially for us as it was a weekday. Fantastic selection of food for our guests, plenty to go around and the service was excellent too. I can’t wait to go back again for an evening meal

We eat here regularly, and it's always been exceptional - in service and quality. The food is DELICIOUS. I would happily eat the gorgeous kids meals if it wasn't for the fact that the grown up meals are so damned good. Their steak is exceptional, their rabbit pie is fantastic and their Sunday carvery is outstanding.

Would it be sad to move to a village just for its pub?

Family group of seven adults. Booked (definitely recommended you so do) as Saturday early evening. Pub and dining areas full, mostly locals and a very good atmosphere. Food very good, service excellent and a good choice of beer. I ask for nothing more. Have used this pub before and never been disappointed. Great pub in a nice village. We live not too far away but the drive their is very scenic, be prepared for getting stuck behind farm traffic though.

Wow, not been for a few years as we have been travelling. Amazing, the food, the ambience, the owners, the staff, the patriots. I cannot recommend enough and cannot wait to bring all my friends. My hubby had a South African dish last night and keeps telling me how sublime it was... next time

Just spent three nights at this beautiful Inn, staying in one of the garden rooms. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and fully equipped. There was a good choice of breakfast options, with locally-sourced food being cooked to order. The atmosphere in the bar in the evening was lovely, with a log fire and fabulous food. Levisham is a quiet village (one road in) that is located in beautiful countryside - the perfect location to 'get away from it all'. We will certainly be re-booking at the Horseshoe Inn.
