What a treasure! The staff superb. The food 10 star. We have been there twice this week . Steak ale pie, burgers, fish and chips with secret ingredient in the mushy peas( a dish on its own so good) Eton mess to die for. Highly recommend

Everyone really enjoyed their dish & drink! The chef spiced everything perfectly. The wings, duck fat potatoes, fish & chips, and candied beet root salad were fantastic. Highly recommend the botanist garden and honey & ginger to drink.

Seemed to be a quiet night for the kitchen as only a Monday evening, but both our Fish & Chips and Burger were carefully prepared and tasty and delivered by friendly front of house team.

There are many impressive things about this pub, but the top two have to be the huge gin selection and the amazing fish and chips. I believe they have 70 different gins, each with a different suggested tonic pairing and garnish. I had the Whitley Neill first and then the Lind & Lime. We had been on a tour of the Lind & Lime distillery earlier in the week (really fun and interesting if you’re into that kind of thing), so I may be biased but it was my favorite. I would say this was the best fish and chips I had the entire vacation, which included spots in London and the Cotswolds! I would encourage getting reservations as it’s a popular spot.

Good pub located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh. We only had drinks without trying the food, but everything was very good. We left completely satisfied.

Popped in for a few drinks with friends and had a great time. Good drink selection and service very good. Prices what you'd expect in town.

We came to this place after a neighboring pub was a bad experience where we had one beer and left. Not tourist friendly. We walked up the street to and were looking at the posted menu to the Jolly Botanist when another Canadian tourist mentioned the great food and very friendly staff. We decided to have dinner and drinks at the Jolly Botanist and I can confirm that the staff were extremely welcoming as the food was great and if you love gin, the crazy various options (over 70) were enjoyable.

Nice little bar especially if you like your Gin! There are tons of different gins on the menu and I ordered a Monkey 47 (favourite) and an absolutely massive Fish and Chips. Yum 😋👍

Been going here regularly for years, it's August it's busy but yet they manage to provide a friendly organised service, you can tell it's family run. The food ,knowledge and service even though it was extremely busy flows. The establishment provides great atmosphere and an enjoyable evening, but it's the staff that should take the credit, some places crumble in August not here, they thrive on a busy night ! Well done ✔️

Food was lovely But drinks I could not taste any of the gin . Measures issue 🤷🏼‍♀️ For the price of the gin and the percentage the gin was it shouldn’t taste like you are drinking water

Came for lunch before the football . We had a lovely waitress called Caitlin who explained the wait for food would be 30-40 minutes . Unfortunately we finally got our food 1 hour and 20 minutes later . It was clear there were nowhere near enough staff on . The food came out which none of us could complain about as the food was lovely . We were close to leaving without having our lunch . Caitlin who we could see rushing around everywhere and getting asked questions regarding when they were getting their food , never once did she show her stress . I really hope she is appreciated by her managers as she is definitely a harder worker , professional and still went that extra mile to make sure everything was ok . Thank you Caitlin .

My wife and I attempted to visit this establishment. I double checked their posted hours on Google and Facebook. It was the only reason for us to visit this part of edinburgh. We checked their social media for updates of delays, but nothing was posted. After an hour after their posted opening, they finally opened. Due to their late opening we could not enjoy the restaurant as we wanted. We order two gin cocktails which were very good. Our serve was good for the time we were there. We ordered the scotch egg and muscles. The egg was very good, however the muscles tasted old and we did not eat them. Overall an underwhelming experience.

Best Sunday roast! Loved the wide selection of gins and highly recommend the spritzes. Such a cool space, great atmosphere & friendly staff.

What a fabulous gin bar. Super friendly prompt service. Busy and noisy inside but a super feel to the place. So many gin choices and wonderful menu options. Sit inside or our the front. Table seating high and low, booth also, large velvet chairs. It's a top spot so do visit on your trip.

Great chilled atmosphere, delicious share plates, delicious drinks, and fair prices. Service was attentive, friendly, and really knowledgeable about the gin on offer. We were on a short visit from Canada but would absolutely frequent this place if we were here longer. Cheers!

It's a very nice place to come to close to Haymarket station, if you prefer something quieter than Princess Street. Staff are friendly, it's clean and nice crowd too.

A great Gin menu with varieties previously unheard of, reasonably priced cocktails as well as wines. The food was lovely with a great deal of tempting choices on the menu. Friendly atmosphere and helpful staff.

Food is great and white chocolate cheese cake is amazing. Wish I had the receipt. The best I had in Edinburgh. Pitiful we only stayed 2 days in the city and can only try this Gin bar once. If you ever visit Edinburgh, this place is a must visit.

Was rammed when we arrived but food ordered quite quickly and delivered to the table in good time and tasty. Negatives were lack of Gluten free options (for one of our party), never even offered desserts and we missed the 17.5% service charge, beware!

My partner and I went for dinner here. we booked in, then had to wait approval to confirm the booking.. that was something different. The drinks menu was only gin and wine it didn't have soft drinks or beer even though it was sold here. We got the share plate for the two of us. Food was nice I wasn't aware that the scotch egg had haggis around it and not beef Mince I'm glad I asked (I did try it and it wasn't for me) but still would of like to of known before hand. Everything else was nice.

Coming to eat at the last minute we enjoyed the burger and the chicken. Friendly waiters. Nothing to say . To redo

Book ahead if you want a table in the bar area, this establishment fills up pretty quickly. I would say the decor is fifties--sixties style not quite sawdust on the floor but wouldn't be surprised if I saw it. Then you go the the loo... A total turnaround... Modern bright and spotless. We only dropped in for drinks so can't comment on the food. I don't live in Edinburgh otherwise this place could well become my local. It's just a five minute walk from Haymarket station...

From Sunday to Thursday of January 2024, we can have 25%discount food menus. It was nice offer. I visited on the 11th January, we had nice foods in there. Thank you! On 14th March, I passed this PuB. Although this PuB is closing in due to Lockdown, this shop’s sign was turned on. Very beautiful. I am looking forward to visiting this PuB soon!

Very quiet when we went in and cold, which is understandable given that it had only just opened when we went in. The drinks we wanted weren't available but the replacements were fine.

The food is really really good.

A great place to relax and explore the wonderful world of gin. Never have I ever spent so long pouring over a bar menu. The range of gin and mixers is exhaustive to the point where 'choice anxiety' starts to creep in. The service for a busy bar is incredible fast, friendly and efficient - we waited no longer than 10 mins to be seated, served and sipping our first gin and tonic which were lovely. The range of gin is so vast that you may find not all are available as stock is being replenished after running out (some of the gins seem fairly artisanal and are probably difficult to restock frequently), but just move down the neverending list on the menu and you'll easily find something else that will intrigue. Have fun!

Amazing Sunday roast here, been a few times now!

Great little gin bar beside Haymarket station. I’ve only ever been when six nations is on and unfortunately not had a chance to try the food. Gets mega busy when the rugby is on but the bar staff still manage to get drinks out really quickly. There’s limited seating out the front for smokers.

Morrison Street location is convenient for bus, tram and train connections. Cheerful staff, good food, stayed longer than our booking slot and were made to feel welcome.

A group event here. The food provided was good - especially the vegetarian cauliflower and the little fish and chips portions. The proportions were a little odd. The place, though, lacked the atmosphere for a great event - lighting, music and seating didn’t really work. The bar service was also pretty poor. I didn’t particularly enjoy it and quite a few of our party left early.

Nice bar in Edinburgh Haymarket district. Doesn't show the footy therefore avoids the sporty types. Can get busy at times. Reserve a table to avoid disappointment

Wow, just had the Scottish Tapas and loved it. Just what I wanted. Light and full of flavour. Highlight was the blackened cod with asparagus and baba ganoush. Lovely dish. Smokey flavour balanced well with the whiskey I was drinking. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly high quality dinner, great gins/GTs, nice modernish take on a pub and good service. We had a Sunday roast and a steak sandwich and the latter was probably the best I’ve had.

Recently discovered The Jolly Botanist and have made a couple of visits since then. It has a quirky unique decor inside with is very welcoming and comfortable. The food is fantastic! We opted for the 'scottish tapas' for a little bit of everything. It was all cooked to perfection and every dish was as delicious as the next one. Staff are friendly and helpful. With a great knowledge of the many drinks the have on offer. Treat yourself to a night here and you definitely won't regret it. Only problem will be decided which one of the fantastic dishes to order 😁

Had a lovely evening at the Jolly Botanist tonight. The food was lovely. The staff so helpful. The atmosphere was perfect.

Nice and quirky place to grab a drink. However very misleading on prices. When I went to the bar to pay I was told £19 for two gin and tonics for the total but when I checked my phone it had charged over £30. After explaining to the bar staff, got no apologies or explanation as to why this was incorrect and was told that's how they charge it. As nice as it was I don't want to be falsely charged again.

This place was great. Went with my dad and uncle for some Sunday lunch and was not disappointed at all. The Scottish tapas menu was really well thought out and has something for everyone. We got 3 dishes each, which was more than enough. However, this did make the meal relatively expensive, considering it was just an afternoon lunch. That being said, everything we ate tasted amazing, all the dishes were cooked well and the presentation was nice. Usually I'm not a dessert guy but the cheesecake I got was different class. Thankfully it was very light as it would have been hard to eat a heavy dessert after all that. I reckon this place is ideal for any sort of occasion. Definitely will be back!

We enjoyed our visit to this quaint little pub while staying in the West End of Edinburgh. My friend and I both had a delicious steak and ale pie. The alcoholic specialty is gin but there were lots of other choices. I had a wonderful cider and my friend had a beer. Altogether a great place to stop for a bite.

Delightful atmosphere, food and service. Really excellent experience. The food was creative, delicious and fun! The four of us think that it was perhaps the best food we had on our trip to Scotland! We went back for a second time. Thanks Jolly Botanist!

First time I've been in this pub, in the Haymarket bit of Edinburgh, pleasant enough pub, no real ale though which was somewhat of a disappointment. Didn't eat so can't comment on the food offer or if there was one !

Food was amazing. Short ribs and lamb burgers are definitely worth a try. The drinks were great. Nice decor. Overall, we had a great experience

Visited on a Saturday for late lunch. There was seating outside however we sat indoors as rain was looming. I am glad we did as it poured down just after we arrived. There is an amazing selection of gin. Love that the menu gives you details of what tonic and garnish are served with each gin. Menu was smaller than other places but still plenty to choose from. We shared the salt and pepper squid and tempura prawns to start with. Both nice but did think a bit expensive for what it was at £11 each. Hubby had chicken balmoral and I had a steak baguette. Both were delicious and £19 for main course not bad. Drinks were 2 non alcoholic beer and 2 G&t, 2 coffees. Bill was £94 with service charge. Service was friendly and toilets lovely. Will return again to try out more gins.

Horrible service 😞😞 I'm a Asian waiting for service nearly 40 mins I have went to bar to order my drink and staff in the bar she told me go to get your seat in will go to you I had arrived 16.16 and I had staff come to ask me 16.39 and they not busy at all or because I'm Asian?
