The John Francis Basset - JD Wetherspoon in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Stayed at the hotel here for 3 nights last week we thought it was brilliant there was a bus stop outside for St Ives The staff were very pleasant And our hotel room was clean and a good size Really impressed with the place overall

Bean hear lots of times staff are friendly and helpful but the food not so good lately comes up luke warm I don't if they changed the chef other than that really good.

Love the place cheap and cheerful

Called for breakfast. Freedom breakfast at £2.25. Bargain. Not very warm but worth the money.

Food took ages to come out and when it did it was cold

Great atmosphere and great for customers of all ages real nice to see.

Been here many times when visiting family in Cornwall. Always quick and pleasant service. Brilliant.

Nice pub. The only reason for 3 stars was due to a kitchen refit. I went in for a bite to eat, but I couldn't. The staff were super friendly and speedy. it also took me by surprise that the app in this Weatherspoons was not working. You had to go to the bar to order. The friendly staff made up for it. I'm sure that when the refit is finished, it will get more stars.

Wetherspoons do what wetherspoons do - the John Francis Bassett no exception.

Had ordered freedom breakfast, it was sufficient quantity and warm enough. My brother had accidentally ordered more food even though they had prepared the food they were willing to refund 😀

Bit noisy with groups of loud men but food and service very good. Beautiful building externally.

It's a normal witherspoon value for money.I just think all the coffee machines should work & more often, the drinks are not hot enough, but this is across a lot of the venues

Foods nice but you're swarmed by flies so half the meal is swatting them away.

Great place for a quick coffee or light lunch with a glass of wine, only downside are the smokers who hang around the front entrance not very nice when you are a non smoker

Good food full of local people hard working staff.

Atmosphere is non existent, the food is what you would expect to from any wetherspoons, the inside desperately needs an update. My daughter burned her hand on one of the pendulum lights in the booths so be careful if you have sensory seeking kids, they're hot!

Lovely meal tonight. Tried the trevithick Inn last night very poor. Chicken tikka gd chicken too. Very friendly .

Stopped here for a late lunch with a friend. Our food order at the bar was taken promptly by a friendly barman and after a short wait was delivered to our table. The food was tasty, hot and nicely presented too. We stayed for about an hour overall squeezing in a cup of coffee after our meal. The only negative I have is the terrible smell coming from the bathroom.

A lovely pub with great food and service. Ham, egg and chips and a pint for £6.67... You can't go wrong.

Rude staff, terrible management

Rude, totally disgusting behaviour by management. Wouldn't go back. I don't think Claire has any customer service experience. I think the food is hit and miss and certain staff are dirty. I went to the bathroom twice and passed a member of the kitchen staff who didn't wash her hands after using the toilet. 🤢

Big, airy pub with great local details. Food and drink is typical Wetherspoons so you know what you’re getting.

Great food aways in for a bite to eat

This is one of the nicest Wetherspoons in Cornwall in my experience. It's also a hotel. It was recently refurbished extensively. Early 2023 I think. Inside there are two largish areas of tables It has a good sized flowered yard out back with several large tables. As with any Wetherspoons, food and drink can be ordered either at the bar, or through the Wetherspoons App.

First of all dirty sticky tables no customers service

One of the better 'Spoons' in Cornwall. 10 am it was quite full, I was working but had the bottomless coffee. For a change the toilets aren't up umpteen stairs. The staff were professional and quick 👍👍👍

It's a wetherspoons, the food isn't fresh it comes in prep cooked and prep packed ready to nuke you get what you pay for its not too bad

There is plenty of space and area for families to sit, including cosy booth's for those wanting a quite spot

I always make allowances when rating Wetherspoons food, it is what it is and that's fine. The chicken in a basket and burger were exactly what you expect. I still don't like the use of sticky bacteria ridden ketchup bottles and would much prefer the return of all the sachets (like most people) but that's one for the penny pinchers and faux eco-warriors.

Lovely Wetherspoons we go here all the time as we only live 5 minutes away. A great atmosphere and also great food 😁 well worth a visit. What more can I say

You kinda know what you are letting yourself in for... Decent food, decent prices. Friendly and helpful staff. Great range of beer. Quality location and lovely interior. Not a gastro pub but it doesn't pretend to be.

A great place, wheelchair accessible through the hotel entrance at the side. The food was good, which is pretty standard across Witherspoon's. Staff were friendly and helpful.

A very large Wethersoons pub. Plenty of seating. You can order your drinks/food via the app if preferred and everything is brought to your table. Food is of decent quality and prices are nice and low. As to be expected, can get a little noisy Saturday afternoon/evening.

Great dining experience. A really lovely old building that's been restored and repurposed as a Wetherspoons hotel and bar/restaurant. Plenty of seating and very clean. The service was very efficient. We used the Wetherspoon app. Really enjoyed the couple of pints of Ruby mild I had with my meal. As with all Wetherspoons the prices were very reasonable in particular the drinks. They did have sports showing on large screen tvs but there is plenty of seating that is away from it. One of the best Wetherspoon pubs I have visited .

Typical wetherspoons, fair quality food at keen prices for the area. Friendly, helpful and caring staff. Good facilities overall!

Ordered a cheese and tomato panini but hardly any cheese, disappointed with the quality. Possibly used spreadable cheese instead as it had soaked into the bread and was tasteless.

Brighter than most Spoons. Friendly efficient staff. Was very pleased how the staff looked after the lady with the guide dog.

The food was ok, certainly edible but not sure if it had been sat around a while as it certainly wasn't very hot. It wasn't particularly busy as it was 12 o'clock. I had Southern fried chicken wrap with chips, the chicken to be fair was hot but chips were warm. Hubby had vegetarian breakfast, everything was just warm, even for him, as unlike me doesn't like it too hot but he would have preferred it hotter. Shame really .
