We had a gift voucher for £100 to go for lunch. Unfortunately they don't do lunches and we couldn’t afford to add another £70 to our voucher to go for dinner and we couldn’t drive 40 miles each way at night because of our age and the best they could offer in return for the £100 voucher was that we had to get to Lincoln at a time when they were open and collect a bottle of wine. Sorry, but most unsatisfactory. We can’t comment on the quality of the food as we didn’t get any.

So I brought a smoked salmon and the chocolate cake this was so expensive I can’t afford to get my 2 children Christmas presents after seeing the bill, I took a bite out of the cake and it felt slimy i spat it out and I seen a tonsil stone lying at the bottom of the cake I was horrified and asked the waiter they said “I put it in there” too save money I am absolutely discusted and won’t ever come hear again

I thought this place was nice but it definitely isn't! I walked in and I got dirty looks by most of the waiters as I am dark skinned. I bought chicken liver parfait and when I took a bite it wasn't cooked properly and it felt raw. The food was cold and they gave me my food extremely late. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Our second visit to this fabulous restaurant. As it was our wedding anniversary we option for the 6 course tasing menu and the 5 wine flight. You can see the current menu on their Facebook page, so I'll not go into detail here. What I will say is that every dish was lovingly created, presented equisitely and tasted fabulous. All this accompanied by a varied selection of wines, chosen with care by our host Samantha who also introduced each dish and wine in detail. Samantha takes her wine very seriously indeed and the ones she had chosen did complement the food perfectly. Well, apart from one served with the lamb which I would have preferred with a little more body. I hasten to add that this is not really a criticism. When you go for the wine flight you know that not every wine might be entirely to your taste. And the red wine wasn't bad - I just would have liked something a little bolder. I appreciate the effort that Samantha had put into her selection. 4 out of 5 ain't bad! :) Yes, I'm rambling on. But we had a really memorable meal here and I highly recommend this restaurant. Yes, it's expensive but for wonderful food and wine presented by a genial host (who is more than happy to debate the wine in detail) I think we really did get what we paid for.

My husband and I both had a very delicious dinner with outstanding service at this charming restaurant. I requested a vegan meal and the chef went out of his way to provide a full range of varied and exciting vegan dishes, including bread and amuse boucle. I especially enjoyed the Potato and Thyme Rostu with artichoke puree, etuvee of leeks and caramelised shallot sauce. Fabulous wines too. We would highly recommend!

We were in a seperate upstairs dining room which felt very special and the staff were wonderful making it feel special and homely at the same time. The hosts were very professional and they could not have done more to ensure that we experienced a wonderful time. We had the six course taster. Two being meat and two vegetarian. Two of us also tried the wine tasting. No one left disappointed. Great food, drink, atmosphere. The knowledge and friendliness of the staff was exceptional. Visited as a group of 6 and we all had an amazing night, the whole experience was lovely from the wine, food and service. In our group we had one vegetarian and one pescatatrian and there were no issues adapting the menu, they even incorporated a fish alternative on one course rather than just offering the pescatatrian the veggie option. We opted for the wine cflight and again they were accomodating, one done not liking red wine was provided a white wine but again, not lazily just replaced but adapted to a different course where it would suit. Each dish and wine choice was expertly and passionately explained, we had questioned the cost of wine pairing but actually, it was worth it! The food was good and beautifully presented. If I was to offer some constructive feedback, a couple of courses for my taste lacked a bit if seasoning (ravioli in particular) but overall enjoyed the variety and combinations. We were full! Could have done with something to freshen us up at course 5, the plate offered was tasty but too heavy by that point in the meal.

Well, what a fantastic restaurant. It was well worth the physical effort to get there! The front of house staff were very friendly and helped us with our menu and wine choices, explaining the dishes with great enthusiasm. We very much enjoyed the 4 course menu. My favourite course was the silky smooth Jerusalem artichoke veloute with mushrooms and a very well cooked scallop. The slight smokiness was a lovely addition to the dish. It was so incredibly yummy. Although, both the prawn ravioli and sea bass dishes were an absolute delight too. The pistachio tart with dark chocolate sorbet was a very lovely end to the excellent meal. If we're ever in Lincoln again we will definitely return. Maybe the 6 course menu next time, but will have to skip lunch beforehand.

Where to even begin... On our recent trip to Lincoln we made the considered decision to visit this establishment, to sample the five course tasting menu. We had read good things about this place before our trip, and had actually booked a table in the restaurant prior to booking our transport, accommodation, etc, as we didn't want to miss out in it. This was the focal point of our trip. Little did we know...The evening started with us being taken upstairs to sit in a room that was referred to as the 'lounge', to order our drinks and to 'relax'. We were sat there for 20 minutes before being finally taken to our table. This didn't sit particularly well with me as our table was booked for 19.30, and it was now 19.50. I explained my concerns to a staff member, and was informed 'this is how we do it here'. Having never been to this restaurant before, I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt at this stage. The thing that really rankled though, was that when finally seated, it was another 20 minutes before any food at all was brought to the table (a pre meal plate of bread and butter). In fact the first course of the tasting menu did not arrive at our table until 20.30. Bear in mind we had already been in the building for a full hour, at this point.I asked to speak to the manager, as I wanted to know whether they considered this time frame acceptable. A young girl who introduced herself as the assistant manager, told me (again) 'this is how we do it here', we like our customers 'to relax'. The same lines being trotted out again and again, and for the record, I was far from relaxed at this point. A cynic might suggest that encouraging the clientele to perpetually 'relax' could conceivably be interpreted as cover for the kitchens inability to provide service in a timely fashion.Missing cutlery for our first course (we had to reuse the butter knife in order to cut it) and a large empty bread tray that had been left uncleared on our table leaving the table completely cramped, just added to the frustration. Another young female had appeared at our table after this point to enquire of our earlier (and as she was soon to learn, continuing) problems. I assume that this was the manager, but as she at no point bothered to introduce herself, I can only surmise. It could well of been the work experience kid for all I know, although I am probably doing a disservice to work experience kids by saying that. The surly attitude and ice cold demeanour of this young lady was to such an extent that I was surprised that the open fire aside me didn't self extinguish. The complete inability to listen and understand the nature of our observations was, and remains, completely astounding to me.She kept on referring to my unhappiness about being seated in a lounge area upon our arrival, butthis was hardly my main bone of contention. The interminable wait between courses was the major issue.3 and a half hours to get five courses out! These are the pitfalls of putting children into positions way above their intellectual capacity.A manager and assistant manager unable to string a sentence together without peppering it with constantly repeated inane adverbs such as 'obviously', 'basically', and 'like' made me feel as if I was conversing with a pair of 14 year old girls, rather than management at a Michelin guide Restaurant.I have eaten in fine dining and Michelin starred restaurants all over Europe, and can honestly attest this to be my worst ever dining experience in such a place. This is not a cheap shot, it is the truth. I fully expected based on the experiences described above, that a bill adjustment or gesture of some description would be made prior to us leaving, due to the obvious dissatisfaction we felt throughout, and as an opportunity for the restaurant to try and make amends.Surely no business worth their salt, wishes their customers to be leaving in an unhappy and distressed state? But no. The 'manager' informed us that as we'd eaten everything, no such thing was permissable. The last time I heard that line being said was in an episode of Fawlty Towers, inserted for comedic purposes to demonstrate how not to speak to customers. But she was deadly serious! When I queried this approach, she started backing off saying, and I quote, "I don't want to become rude and disrespectful' (she said it twice). The irony being, that by uttering such a sentence, she had just committed the act that she was apparently trying to avoid. The lack of contrition, the lack of empathy and the absolute absence of any visible communication skills really was something to behold. When you enter a restaurant such as this one, you are paying for the experience, not just the food. This is not a difficult thing to understand, I made this point several times, but nobody seemed to be able to grasp this very basic observation. This readily understandable notion seemed completely incomprehensible to the staff. It was as if I had suddenly started speaking to them in Classic Latin, the words spoken, indecipherable and impossible to ingest. The clearer my points were, the more they would double down, insolent to the last."Nobody else has been complaining". Cheap line after cheap line...For the record, the food was bang average, not particularly inventive, with three very salty dishes in succession way too much for the palate to withstand, but the service (or lack of it) and the risible attitude of 'management' were the key factors that ruined the evening from the onset.Although it wouldn't have salvaged our evening, a couple of drinks on the house and a warm smile may have gone some way to placating us, but this seemed to be lost on them completely. The moment was gone. The evening had been ruined long ago, and the management couldn't care less.A disappointing end to a disappointing evening. The veneer of an unquestionably beautiful setting, did little to mask the ponderous service, uninspiring cuisine and appalling attitude of staff.I would advise any future customers who are brave/foolish (delete as applicable) enough to visit, to consider bringing a good book with you, and possibly a pillow.A long and painful evening almost certainly awaits. Obviously, like...

EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTING EXPERIENCE. My partner and I were excited to taste what was described online as the best restaurant in Lincoln but that wasn't the outcome experienced. Setting was warm and cosy until a fire brick was lit in its packaging, creating an acrid smell in the room. The service was poor, mistakes were made with the wine and all meals too an age to arrive, the bill also took 40 minutes to arrive. Starters and appetisers were good, not exceptional with distinct lack of depth but acceptable. The mains dishes were the main basis for this review. They lacked any depth and variety of flavour making for a bland and average experience. To add to this we had to send one dish back due to meat being cold, this was replaced with another dish which bared the same qualities. When you are paying over £30 for a dish you expect for strong, complicated and distinct flavours, potentially to a level which you have not tasted before but this left a sour taste in our mouths to say the least. When confronting the manager/owner she acknowledged our comments, did not apologise or make any concessions to the bill. I would not recommend you spend your money here if you value quality cooking.

Where is the michelin star? Every time we go here the food is amazing. The service is exceptional. Fantastic. Yes, it's pricey but it's worth the cost. Never once left thinking "that was expensive", always just thought "what a superb evening" and that's exactly how it should be. Nice one Jew's House.

Lovely old building and service was good, but there were a few things about the food that let this place down.My starter promised to be interesting and tasty, but no flavours except the fig and venison seems to go together. The starter was the roast venison with caramelised fig, blacksticks blue and chocolate oil. The oil didn’t go with anything and the cheese, though one of my favourites and micro herbs dominated the dish. For mains, three of us ordered the beef sirloin with Yorkshire pudding. The beef was cooked to perfection, but the Yorkshire pudding was over cooked and mine tasted burnt. I expected better from this high-end eatery. The dessert was a super fig and curd tart, which was great. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and knew her stuff. We do eat out a lot and feel rather let down by what could have been a perfect meal.

While the food was great, the service was poor. From arrival to starters was 1h15m and then over an hour again until mains. While we didn’t want to be rushed this was too long. Two tables adjacent to us had tasting menus and had 3 courses delivered before we got one. The tasting menu also had a Somellier describing the wines they had paired with their food who was not on hand for the a la carte diners making us feel like second class citizens. Can’t fault the food and would highly recommend the miso pork belly starter.

Staying nearby with friends we booked here for Sunday lunch on their recommendation. We had been told the food was wonderful but helpings small, this wasn’t the case with Sunday lunch, the food was superb and plentiful, only one of our group managed dessert, but we did all have a taste. We all chose the traditional roast beef, melt in the mouth, juicy and very tasty. Service was polite, and unobtrusive. There was no feeling of being rushed through the meal. The layout of the restaurant is individual, with rooms on different floors. We will return when next in the area.

Very friendly, knowledgeable and proffesional. Atmosphere- very calm and cozy which was a perfect fit for late autumn evening.Definitely will come back.

Visited on a Sunday to celebrate an anniversary. Warmly welcomed and served a very good glass of champagne upon being seated - really crisp and tasty. Excellent starters, mine was lamb and aubergine cannelloni and a soup for my wife. Main's were both roast beef, with a fab bourgignon tartlet. Pudding for one as very full.Wine choice was very reasonable and we went for an excellent Rioja Gran Reserva. All/most of the wines are supplied by the fantastic and local Ann et vin. That's well worth a visit at some point too.Why not 5*? Whilst it was a great Sunday dinner, it was Sunday dinner - and we want to reserve the 5* option for visiting on a <<normal>> evening.

Food excellent, some great flavour combinations, incredible wine pairing and good pours! Service was perfect until after dessert was served and coffee ordered, then staff seemed to disappear, as they were closing up for the evening, so it then seemed to take an age to get the bill, both us and another couple had to go to the bar to request the bill. That said we will definitely go back when we visit Lincoln again.

My wife and I visited the Jews House Restaurant 28/08/2021 the restaurant is very cosy and comfortable in a nice old building, we chose the tasting menu and every course was cooked to perfection my favourite was the miso glazed pork belly. The wine list is excellent for both white and red and ideal considering you can buy a glass rather than the full bottle, waiting staff are friendly well presented and informative, you are also given enough time between courses (no rushing) like some other places we’ve visited, the evenings food and wine was worth every penny and we will be returning to try other meals there. If you are visiting Lincoln or you just want somewhere for great food I’d advise a visit here.

We were intending to go here February 2020 but due to illness then lockdown we had to cancel, so we have been waiting a long time for this! We were seated upstairs in a small dining room. The two of us decided to have the taster menu and, as husband was driving, I had the shortened wine flight of 3 glasses through the meal. As I don’t like lamb (I know…) we discussed an alternative and I was offered the duck, which was a very acceptable. The food was very good. My favourite was the smoked haddock. Just fresh and creamy and the accompanying cheese soufflé was divine. The miso pork was interesting but I liked the unusual melon sorbet pairing. It worked and I was grateful for the spoon to make sure no juices were wasted. The wine pairings were superb. The red was changed to suit my duck and all 3 glasses worked well over the 5 courses. No mean feat to pair such different flavours successfully. We had the cheese platter as well for an extra £9 pp. A good variety, I especially enjoyed Mary’s Reserve cheddar and the Gorgonzola.Service was discreet, timely and knowledgeable. It isn’t cheap, but did not expect it to be. The taster menu is that, small tasters of the A la Carte menu. However, add in the appetiser of artichoke soup, bread and the fact it is 5 courses the meal is not skimpy for those who are hungry. We always have cheese regardless and I usually do not eat desserts to allow for this but the warm gingerbread and cherry mousse got me! We will be returning soon.

Wow! What an experience! We had the 5 course tasting menu and full wine flight and I highly recommend. We came for our wedding anniversary. I loved the pace of the evening. They don’t turnover their tables so you really can just relax into the night. The time between courses was perfect and you could really enjoy your full glass of wine before the next one arrived.I loved how Samantha explained each wine and why she chose it for each dish - it’s not something we know much about but found it very interesting. Our favourite wine was the Luis Canas Rioja. The food was the best I’ve ever tasted, I particularly loved the 2 meat courses and the dessert. I don’t usually eat lamb but this dish showed me what I’ve been missing! The presentation was wonderful and we also had each dish explained as well. The cheese course at the end is also well worth it, and they’re not just your typical Brie and blue. All 5 were cheeses we had never had before. The service was impeccable- every single waitress was a pleasure. And you know those people that really love their job and are so passionate about what they do, that it makes you passionate too - that’s Samantha. It really does mean a lot to her that you enjoy each aspect, and we really felt that. I’m so grateful we got to have this incredible experience.

Just disappointing. Always been a fan of this place as we love a bit of posh dinner every now and then. The place is immaculate, staff very attentive but food was just not on point to match. Especially at the price. Tomato salad was literally 4 halves of bog standard red cherry tomatoes with a few small cubes of cheese, a nice teaspoon of sorbet and some oil. Fish was just a tiny bit of cod with no flavour, the pork and prawn was amazing (that’s what it should be about, perhaps 2 though!) and the main was a single lamb cutlet (sold as a rack of lamb) with the most over burned aubergine tar On the side. Dessert was half a biscuit sized and bland. Would have a been fine for £100 but the £225ish bill was bonkers. Given we had a bottle of wine (lower end) a couple of pre drinks (one each) and 2 after dinner drinks, but it just want value for what we received. I’d happy pay that for a wow meal, but this wasn’t. Not gonna rush back, the Tower and Reform at Castle do food at better level for less. Sorry for this but it’s an honest review, not slating as it’s a lovely place but the food needs to match up, hence 3 stars. More flavour and less skimpy or charge a lot less. Gutted as this was the go too place in town. To the staff. Please take this feedback and act on it positively, you have a great place and boom the service but it’s not matching up. You can’t rely on past reputation and good reviews from those that celebrate mediocre forever, you can be the best but food needs elevating if your gonna charge Winteringham Fields prices.

A very nice lunch, the staff were very helpful and attentive,we were given dome nice artisan bread to start with then I had a salmon starter which was excellent, we were both disappointed with the main course, the beef was excellent and I like the little rarebit pie but the Yorkshire pudding was almost burnt and there could have been more vegetables. Cheese selection was nice with tasting notes.

We chose this restaurant after reading the outstanding reviews and they turned out to be correct. The service was exemplary and the the front of house staff made our experience here first rate. Its a lovely building in this quaint medieval city and it has been tastefully decorated and furnished, but its the food that puts it on a pedestal. We skipped the starters and went for the mains and desert. A superb amuse bouche was served pre main, which set us up nicely. A faultless turbot dish was presented to my wife and a delicious duck course to me. The only slight mistake in the kitchen was leaving the duck under the salamander a fraction too long,as parts of the crispy skin were a little charred, this however was more than compensated for,by the rest of the plate. In summary this establishment is within touching distance of a michelin star, but must strive for perfection.

I always thought this place was the best restaurant in Lincoln until my last visit. We opted for the tasting menu and it look great. Let’s just say we were both massively underwhelmed and very disappointed. The tomato salad clearly hadn’t used the best quality tomato’s and as a result lacked flavour. The fish was ok but nothing special. The miso pork was superb and couldn’t fault that course at all. We were massively underwhelmed by the main course of lamb. The lamb was cooked nicely but didn’t have great flavour and wasn’t seasoned particularly well however what really ruined the dish was the smoked aubergine it completely overpowered every other element of the dish and tasted acrid. The couple to the right of me also commented themselves a similar opinion of the dish however were too polite to say anything. I did mention to the waiting staff my comments on the dish and she did say she will tell the chef but we heard nothing more. The final course was a tart which was nice however I presume we were the last cover of the night and they only gave us half a tart each bearing in mind they were the size of a jam tart. It was nice enough but very underwhelming for the price. Service was very good. All in all we had a pre drink, bottle of one of the cheaper wines and an after dinner drink and coffee and the bill was £223 without a tip so an expensive meal out which didn’t measure up to what was promised. I won’t be returning for a long time and won’t be recommending it to our Airbnb guests either as I had listed this as a must place to dine!

Small, intimate, high-end restaurant set in a wonderfully characterful old property halfway up the hill in Lincoln. Offers a la carte dining and a 5-course tasting menu with wine pairings. Exceptionally friendly staff. We tried the tasting menu and while two dishes were excellent, there were several noticeable blips in quality (including a pancake that was clearly burnt to look at let alone taste), and overall the menu wasn't particularly imaginative. If you have the luxury of being able to go further afield, there are better experiences to be had for this price. If you're limited to Lincoln, though, I think there's nothing else that competes.

I really enjoyed the ambience here - cosy, warm, relaxing, quiet - all which made for a pleasant dining experience. My starter (brisket croquettes?) was very tasty and had a beautifully crisp batter. I chose the braised beef for my main, which was an excellent choice as it too was very good. Tender, flavourful, and came with a well seasoned and cooked roast carrot. Desert was fine, I've had better banoffee pie but I've also certainly had worse. It had a slight shop bought feel to it, although thats not to say it wasnt homemade. My cocktail (passionfruit sour) also had a decent amount of alcohol in it and got me at a good level after just one which is always a plus. I'd highly recommend this place overall, fantastic food for the price (£23 for 3 courses) and a nice little venue! 83/100
