The Jam Factory in Oxford

Difficult to know where to begin - a hub of effortless cool and unpretentious loveliness for so many years - host to great music and exhibitions - with a wonderful buzz and fab staff - and social hub for groups from armchair philosophy to scrabble. Will miss it hugely and only wish the landlord would rethink. Huge thanks and appreciation for many memorable times.

Staff have clearly received no training. No interest in serving customers. Food expensive for what it was. Not imaginative or scrumptious. Most lagers on tap not available. Gorgeous building, beautiful outside space. I understand it’s closing soon but we wouldn’t have been rushing back.

Lovely little place. Adorned with real plants for a jungle vibe, art for sale on the walls and fairly priced food for Oxford. Schnitzel was lush!

We had planned a very low key hen lunch (just 4 of us) for a friend at The Ivy. The day before the event we were told by The Ivy we could not bring any balloons or a cake. The Jam Factory saved the day by allowing us to bring both and provided an afternoon of great service and food in their beautiful gallery style venue. The bride to be particularly enjoyed the Cosmos and staff made her feel special. Thank you!

Not a great deal to say - the food was excellent, the service was brilliant. Can't really add to this. TripAdvisor wants me to get to at least 100 words, so I'm just going to say excellent again.

On cold and wet miserable Sunday, the family had wonderful lunch at The Jam Factory. We were cheered up by the excellent food and welcoming staff. Our roast beef and pork was cooked to perfection with lots of lovely veg then followed by yummy puds. We’ll be back. Highly recommended.

I dropped in for a light lunch . service was friendly and efficient and the sandwich I ordered good . There was building work going on which made for occasional somewhat intrusive noise . The atmosphere had a buzz to it and whilst the art on display was not my choice it added to the ambience . Very convenient for the station I would return !

Visited today with friends for prebooked lunch. Could not find any faults. Top quality food presented promptly by friendly professional team. Highly recommended.

I have been to The Jam Factory (TJF) twice. A colleague wanted to meet with me in Oxford and so I travelled from Southampton and we met in this wonderful place. We had tea and cake and sat and chatted. The people were very friendly and it was convenient and close to the station. The food was good but the most remarkable thing is not that but the people who work there. To me, that made all the difference. I left and got on the train, only to discover as the train left the station and I put my hand down to pick up my laptop, that I had left it at the restaurant. After having a mild panic attack I called TJF who told me not to worry and that they had put my laptop in a safe place and I could come and get whenever I could get there. I was so grateful, I sent flowers to 'Monica' who had served me and saved the day. I visited, a couple of years later and met someone again, a colleague and it was as nice as before. Delightful relaxed, atmosphere, lovely food and friendly staff. No dramas on this occasion! My most recent encounter was just this last week when I was walking and ordering Christmas presents at the same time. I was not paying attention to where they were being sent as nearly everything I have ever ordered online went to my address by default. Although I had in the past used the M&S app I had always used 'Click & Collect' so not been bothered at being called Monica (which had confused me but was also my Mums name so I thought possibly that had been why) which happened a couple of times I didn't think anything more about it. However, it turns out that the default address on the app was set to the first order I had made (I have now assumed) and so everything I ordered on my walk ended up being sent to Monica at The Jam Factory Oxford. I didn't realise my mistake until I got the Hermes notification two days later and a photo of my order, safely delivered in Oxford. I was mortified. I had another mild panic attack and went onto TJF website and tried to call but they were closed (Mondays) and so I emailed but thought that I would never see the items again. Within minutes I had a reply to say that they had copied in the manager and that they will get in touch with me. Then minutes after that the manager confirmed that they had the parcels and that I was welcome to come and get them the next day. I cannot say how relieved I was. However, I then looked at when I could come and get the parcels but I work full time, live in Southampton and the train was about £37 return. To drive was a 4 hour round trip. My husband persuaded me that the hassle and the time alone were not worth the stress and so I contacted them very apologetically to say that they could keep the items and not worry about saving them for me. I really didn't want to be a bother considering it was my mistake and it would be a hassle for them. I felt I couldn't ask them to go out of their way for someone who isn't a regular customer. To me it was a huge cheek and I should just accept my loss. TJF staff were not to be put off and they insisted that I provide my address and that they wanted to help me. They posted the items to me and wouldn't take any money for their trouble. I was overwhelmed that these strangers would be so kind and considerate. I have only been there twice but when I go to Oxford again I will go there and I will encourage everyone I know to visit. Their kindness and compassion for my stupid mistake(s) have been incredible and it shows what a genuine organisation they are. I am sure that Monica has long gone but Claudia Reiter and Claire Gaskell are equally as thoughtful and have shown that, at least to me, that part of their ethos is to employ people who put the customer (no matter when they were!) first and I am so incredibly thankful that they were so gracious and nice about it. That goes a long way in this day and age when so much is automated and faceless. Thank you. So not only is TJF a delightful, convenient location in the centre of Oxford not far from the station, but the cake is good and the staff are genuine. A true gem.

I went last week for coffee and a snack with my sisters. The service is friendly and quick, the food delicious and the place is light and airy. They sell local artists’ work (the walls are decorated with it which is a nice touch) and I noticed they have an art market once a month which I would love to go to. I will definitely visit here again next time I am in Oxford.

We chose the jam factory based on reviews, proximity to the train station and good value set menu including a glass of wine and weren’t disappointed. Food was tasty and our dietary needs were accommodated without issue. Friendly staff & relaxed atmosphere. We will be back when next in Oxford!

Great atmospheric bar and cafe - seemingly attached to some kind of art centre (this element not explored). I absolutely appreciated the attention provided to tired dog and owner - particularly so when said attention was delivered in the shape of the best stout cake I have ever had with a pint of Hoptrics ale in a supporting role. In-app ordering is a pet hate but all was delivered speedily. Lovely folk too. Great place to know about and to recommend.

Ordered via the app. Coffee took too long to come (20 mins wait) then when it came it was tepid. McDonald's type chips, sliver of salad, schnitzel average with a fried egg and a few Capers. Very average. Won't be returning

The Jam Factory has a wonderful ambience, light and airy, with plenty of space, and a fabulous selection of art (for purchase) for all tastes by local artists adds to the charm. As a "foodie", I do know a good meal when I get one....

Cool cafe that ruins its appeal by trying to be something it’s not. Good coffee, lovely art work, terrible price for food. Staff seemed half asleep and more engaged with themselves than the customers. No real professionalism here. Stick to selling coffee and cake.

After COVID enforced break returned to the brilliant Jam Factory for lunch today. Georgia and Liam were efficient and friendly as always at front of house.I think there’s a new chef, Ben in the kitchen and my burger was one of the best I’ve had but must comment on my partner’s lunch which was truly outstanding - the salmon fillet with roast artichoke is worthy of the finest restaurant anywhere.Well done.

I've been going to the Jam Factory for years now, so I've always loved it there, but last night's experience reminded me why. My friend had her wedding reception in the Boiler Room (intimate gallery space in the back), and the whole evening was perfect. Excellent food, fabulous service, lovely atmosphere, and utterly magnificent staff who delivered an extremely professional and wonderfully warm service - even despite the fact that the rest of the restaurant was having a very busy night, not to mention the added energy of patrons celebrating Halloween. That must have been a challenge, but they made it look easy. I would highly recommend the Jam Factory to anyone seeking accommodating staff and a lovely venue for their event, but also to anyone looking for a tasty meal out, a slice of cake, a cheeky pint and beyond. All in all, the JF is a much loved local! Be there!

Had a pre-booked lunch today (20 October) in the outside area at the back of The Jam Factory. Staff were very Covid safety aware, but friendly and helpful, and once we got the hang of the QR menu, ordering was simple and efficient. Food and coffee was great. Hope to go there again, Covid willing!

He estado en el JF en dos ocasiones en los últimos 10 días y siempre estoy asombrado por la cálida bienvenida del personal: ayer era Vanessa y no recuerdo al chico la semana pasada. Tenía una instrucción clara del proceso de sentarse y pedir bebidas. La aplicación funcionó muy bien ordenando y Vanessa luego apareció con bebidas directamente. Una gran experiencia y felicitaciones a Andrew y al equipo.

Esta fue nuestra primera visita a este restaurante encantador y peculiar y solo podemos decir "bravo" a todo el personal que hizo que fuera una experiencia de almuerzo tan agradable y una que nosotros. Esperamos repetir muy pronto. Tenía ganas de comer aquí mientras estaba en Oxford después de haber mirado su menú en línea. TJF has a very efficient system set up for COVID safety, supported by friendly masked staff, and delivering good beers and delicious food. Eat inside surrounded by art, or outside in the sunny yard.

Friendly staff, really tasty food. Lovely calm atmosphere. QR codes on the tables which lead to a menu and Track & Trace in one place. Excellent banter from the waiter. Would definitely visit again!

Fairly covid safe, lovely outdoor area and good coffee and food! The QR menu actually worked very smoothly and payment was super easy - which is a treat after some of the places I’ve been. They were very good about asking you to take stuff off the tray when serving, to minimise touch points. They weren’t wearing face masks though, and no handsan station at the front door which is a shame. But overall a comfortable place to go at the moment!

This is the first meal I have eaten out since lockdown. I immediately chose the Jam Factory as I have had so many good times there. Great to see the staff who are like friends again and the service and care taken to have a good time was effortless and excellent. I will be returning, life is starting to feel whole again :)

I came here a few weeks ago with some family friends who were taking me out for dinner. The first issue we faced was when ordering our starters. One of us tried to order the croquette dish to be told that they did not have any- not an issue to run out of food, but it would be nice to pre-warn people of this when you give them the menus. The starters were nice but then once our plates had been cleared we sat waiting for 45 minutes for our mains only to then have the waitress come up to us and say that they had lost our order and it would be another 20 minutes!! There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant so I have no idea how they had managed to loose the order, and the waitress was not even that apologetic. Once the mains finally came at about 9.45pm my 'Beef and Bacon' burger had no bacon but I did not want to embarrass the people who were paying for the meal by saying this. All they did was take a round of drinks off the bill and they barely even apologised for the whole ordeal. Very disappointed and will not be back.

We experienced good,friendly,prompt service. Some effort had been made to put together a Valentines menu with some 'special' touches such as miniature tubes of loveheart sweets. The atmosphere had quite a 'buzz', with lot of students at the bar.

Wasn't impressed with their overall service. The food was substandard and the service was terrible had to wait a long time for our order only for them to get it wrong. While there we happened to see a mouse scurry across the floor. Overall hygiene was not great and needs to be addressed.

Last year our company had our Christmas Party here and were really happy to be back at the Jam Factory for our festive celebrations (and hoping to rebook for this year!). The Jam Factory is a fantastic venue for a large party and the events team were fantastic - taking time to make recommendations and understand our requirements so we could ensure all of our guests had a fantastic time. The food was delicious and the range of eating options (bowls, cups, buffet, etc.) was great as it gave us a lot of choice to suit our staff preferences and very tight budget. They were particularly good about separating out dishes for our celiac guests, which can be a nightmare at some venues! Our guests enjoyed the non-traditional decorations, which still felt very seasonal and festive, and their lovely outdoor area. If you're looking for a venue which feels a bit less 'office' and a bit more 'fun', this is definitely a great place for your evening do. Lastly, the staff were absolutely the best part of the evening - they were incredibly friendly and helpful and constantly on-hand in case anything at all was needed!

It’s hard to put your finger on which direction the company are trying to go here. My partner and I have popped in on numerous occasions whilst commuting to the local train station.They offer a great selection of teas and their coffee is better than most. However, what brings this place down is the price of their food and service. For £14 for a main dish I would expect to eat in a more aesthetically pleasing environment with more attentive staff. The tables are old, worn and stained. The low cut chairs are extremely uncomfortable and don’t allow you to keep your back straight whilst eating. It’s clear to see that barely any money is being put back into the establishment. The staff seem very disengaged, on entering we were welcomed by the barman but then trying to get someone’s attention afterwards proved difficult. On this one occasion it seemed that the staff were more concerned with finding out about each other holidays than wait on their guests, this is where the problem lies with me. With little professionalism nor delegation, Everything seems very pretentious and you can’t help but feel that profit is the main objective here rather than the guests coming first. The company may benefit by formulating a product that suits them and their sub standard service rather than trying to be something it’s not.

This is a little off the beaten track but I'm so pleased we found it. It's a restaurant and bar set in an old jam and marmalade factory. It has high ceilings, original parquet flooringt The bar is well stocked and the food was lovely. It is a large airey place and the staff were really lovely. We really enjoyed this place.

Great food, only been there once for work gathering, really good food and pudding. Nice environment helpful staff..

Terrible customer service. We asked for 3 vodka, lime and soda’s and the Barman without giving us an option served us their most expensive spiced rye vodka. On tasting we returned the drinks at the bar, obviously they tasted very different to usual, they were extremely strong and it wasn’t what we ordered. We politely requested new ones as we hadn’t asked for that vodka. The bar man was so stroppy and rude about it, he tried to wriggle out of remaking the drinks and said we were obviously only used to the cheap stuff. We were astounded. He eventually remade the drinks in a petulant manner.In short, we were served the wrong drink (in what I can only assume was an attempt to rip us off) and insulted. Would suggest bar staff are trained in basic customer service ... a happy attitude could have resolved the issue for us.

We visited with friends and having ordered a round of drinks, found the vodka, lime and soda’s tasted off. We politely took it back to say it wasn’t to our taste, it was very strong and the flavour was unusual. At which point the almost comically grumpy bar man told us it tasted fine (it really didn’t, the measure was too big, he hadn’t squeezed the lime - it was undrinkable) it was their most expensive vodka, Toad vodka (rye vodka), and blankly suggested we were clearly only used to the cheap stuff. He tried to wriggle out of remaking the drinks and whinged that it’s cost him £15. I was in shock. Has this man;

Eloquent teas, most delicious breakfast; and bright coffees. They allow children and dogs inside. They have exquisite art on the walls to view and great customer service. Love the hip vibe in this place

Had a wonderful lazy lunch with a friend. The atmosphere at TJF was relaxing, the food was tasty (noodles, mushrooms & veg) and nice coffee. What was not to like. JTF had a range of beers & other drinks as well as cakes and snacks. All in all - very pleasant.

Lovely food and great service. A lovely evening with friends & Family in the Function room. Slightly disorganized with the seating plan at the start of the evening, but this was soon rectified, and the staff where very accommodating.

New year and we got served the wrong drink, 3 of us went to return the drink asking nicely if we got what we ordered. The man told us we got the best vodka they had. We politliy told the man we didn't like the vodka to which he responded oh you only like the 'cheap' stuff. Aggressive tone and put our moods right DOWN. Im disgusted in the RUDE SERVICE. THE BLOKE NEEDS TRAINING ON CUSTOMER SERVICE.

We came here for a drink and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. There was a decent beer selection and the front area by the bar was nice and cosy.

Do not spend your money or time on this restaurant! The worst restaurant in Oxford! This week we had our Christmas party, the heating was broken and the restaurant was very cold, there was no atmosphere in this restaurant.

I've always liked the jam factory so was pleased to be returning for another work Christmas party. The staff were surprisingly stiff, I asked to try a little of the wine before ordering to be told "no", the white wine was too warm and when I asked for ice I got another "no" with a "you've been holding it too long" and I really hadnt. This wasn't a mad busy party so surprising disappointing.

Excellent xmas dinner and drink and flexible timing of the event good books etc for the kids and clientele pets allowed too

We had just arrived in town by train and called into here as it is very close to the train station. As the name suggests it is an old industrial building that has plenty of character. We sat in the bar area by the entrance and there was plenty of room for our suitcases. The service was very friendly and we enjoyed two glasses of Prosecco at £5 each.

Enjoyable brunch, everything sourced and cooked well. Staff are happy and welcoming. We did visit late morning on a week day.

We visited the place for beers and also got some finger food. We were very satisfied with the fries with cheese and truffle oil and the haloumi. The people working there were all very friendly.

El café estaba bien, pero obviamente se estaba enfriando mientras preparaban el pastel para llevar a la mesa. Se disculparon por ser tan lentos pero dijeron que estaban ocupados. Worst Place Ever: Been going to the Jam Factory since 2006 and it's been my go to place for a cup of tea and quiet after a long day. However, I was very disappointed when I popped in today for tea and a cake. The young woman at the bar explained I couldn't sit at a table with reserve sign. So I said " Sure! Fine. I'm only going to be few minutes as I'm catching a train and figured this would be better than hanging at the station."

After traveling to Oxford we stopped for a coffee and cake. Ordered ginger cake and a drink. Teas and coffees very nice but the slice of ginger cake that two of the group had was so thin it could have been inhaled. One of the group had a sandwich which was massive. Seating area inside to the left could have done with a wipe down. Disappointing visit. Could do better.

Fantastic venue. Our Daughter booked the JF for her wedding and it was a brilliant choice. 80 guests, 2 course sit down meal and then buffet for puddings/cake/cheese later.

Great location from train station - quirky in a good way - great coffee and starters - limited mains - chicken tasted of fire lighter - lots of chips and no salad alternative offered- good value if you like this sort of thing - but food let it some for me sorry

This place is quite unique in Oxford. It’s quirky, and the menu is simple but nice. There are so many restaurant chains in Oxford that it’s nice to support an independent outlet like this. The food is good and well presented. They do have some gf options and I’m especially happy when they have gf/df sweets. Today they had some really lovely biscotti. The coffee is good too and there is a nice vibe to the place. They have regular art displays on the walls and they also host life drawing classes. How cool is that?

My friend and I visited on a Monday, just before lunchtime. Initially we were only going to stop for coffee but decided to stay for the lunch menu. Between us, we had a cappuccino, a chai latte, the beef and cheese burger, a cheese toastie and sweet potato chips. The food I felt was slightly on the pricey side, but was nevertheless delivered quickly: hot and tasty!

Walked in got blanked by staff. Waited.. Waited and waited some more... Can't get a drink at empty bar..

Despite visiting on the hottest day of the year so far (25th July), the restaurant was much cooler and a fan was blasting a wonderful breeze that stopped me overheating. We had excellent service and the food was delicious. Unfortunately my boyfriend was served a bottle of beer that was out of date by nearly 2 months. We mentioned this to the waiter at the end of the meal and they generously removed it from our tab; but due to our sheer happiness with the food and the table service we left the price of the beer as a tip. Everything was very well priced and thoroughly enjoyable. We will definitely come here again on a cooler day so we’re not melting all over the place!

Three of us have been attending a three-day conference nearby and stopped off for dinner on two evenings - the second because the first was so enjoyable in the care of brilliant manageress, Georgia. We had great food (a relatively short menu, but with very interesting options with a vegetarian slant alongside slow-cooked pork and hake (for example), and good desserts). There's a very good selection of beers, ciders, wines and non-alcoholic drinks and excellent coffee. The place is an art gallery as well, so hanging around the restaurant are interesting and varied paintings and photographs. The building is the old Frank Cooper's Oxford Marmalade factory; the interior has a simple, rustic feel to it; there are outside tables for warm summer days. On the second occasion, we were served by Alexandra, whose charm, attentiveness and professionalism were fast catching up with Georgia's (whom she declared she admired). Generous portions, entertaining conversation with staff with an occasional whiff of good natured irony, fine full plates of food, and a relaxed and convivial atmosphere make this a place for a very good time out with friends.

Ok, entonces este no es el peor lugar del mundo para desayunar.

We happened upon the Jam Factory having not done our planning and needing to feed 6 of us in a dog-friendly setting in central Oxford! Sometimes taking a chance is well rewarded and this was just such an occasion. A kindly welcome was accompanied by a great choice of food (all very fresh and tasty) and a good selection of drinks (beers especially). We loved the quirky setting, the relaxed vibe and the art works on the walls. All in all a great find.

On Friday the 17th of May, myself and my parents visited the Jam Factory after hearing about it from many friends.

After finally finding a car parking space in Oxpens; the Seacourt Tower Park & Rise was full! We stopped for a coffee and sweet eat. Service was good range of draft beers & vides were impressive. The coffee was vg. Service friendly. Thanks

Can’t say how sad we were to be treated with utter rudeness ... they may have a separate wedding function going on but that’s no excuse to be so rude to others.

Longhorn IPA is excellent. Delicious burgers and even better chips. Friendly service. We will definitely return.

Spent the afternoon and evening at The Jam factory which was hired for the exclusive use of Wedding Guests.. Food was excellent with an afternoon tea followed by fish and chip supper. All staff were helpful and attentive.

En pleno centro de Oxford, decidimos desayunar en este local. Bastante variedad de productos y el personal muy amable, la calidad de la comida es muy buena y estaba toda muy rica nos pareció un acierto, el precio normal, y lo único el 10% extra por el servicio como pega. Repetiríamos sin dudarlo.

After walking around Oxford all afternoon and studying the menus at a number of restaurants (some very pricey) we stumbled across The Jam Factory, iterally a 3 minute walk from our hotel.

Had never eaten here before but passed it many times so we decided to eat here as a birthday treat. I had booked a table and upon arrival we were warmly greeted with a great smile and promptly seated. The waiter soon arrived and asked if we wanted water whilst we chose drinks but we immediately asked for drinks and he kindly listed the local guns for us which was helpful. All night long we were very well looked after by a very knowledgable and friendly Kiwi waiter. I had the beef and cheese burger with loaded fries all of which was excellent and my wife had the Halloumi salad which was equally good. Walnut brownie for desert was perfect. We both had a thoroughly good evening surround by artwork and will return for sure. Many thanks to all the staff!! Any eatery’s who have wait staff lacking in how to look after clients should you this place as a training model. Thanks again.

I chose this venue as a meet up place for some of my oldest friends as I had heard good things. The Jam Factory did not disappoint.

We called in for lunch as it was very convenient for the railway station. Good experience. Food was served promptly by friendly staff.e

I was staying close by and wanted comfortable place with good beer and food with nice atmosphere. This place was ideal! Choice of good local, other UK and some Belgian beers on tap. Local food, good quality and not like many mass produced stuff. Staff were nice. Other customers were helpful and chatty. So I found exactly what I was looking for; a great evening.

The jam factory has a great menu and a strong range of beers and ales. I have come here many times however my last visit revealed fairly poor service which was spoiling the experience of many customers. When the venue reserves tables, they leave a sign which has no indication of what time the reservation starts - we asked staff whether we could use a reserved table as we were just having a few drinks and they couldn't give advice, just shrugged and said "best not". They then watched as we found the last unoccupied table and had to search the venue for spare chairs to sit on. Not good enough, especially as the bar wasn't busy at that point.

I live round the corner from the Jam Factory and have visited it many times. The quality of the food is quite noticeably better over the last year. It's a good place to hang out with friends for a drink or for nosh and a stone's throw from the railway station.

Excellent soup of the day. Curried cauliflower. Flavours abound. Great food. Good vibe. Chickpea and Lamb Tagine very tasty. Looked good on the plate.Bravo.

We had our Christmas party at the Jam factory. The food was really good! High quality, all I would say is that I was still hungry after 3 courses! (portions were small) Everything was full of flavour and presented nicely, the only think I would comment on is how you only get like 3 small crackers with a whole camembert which personally I don’t think is enough.

Good place but was too tiny for big parties, food was not that good. Friendly staff, but would not go again for parties.
