Awful pricing - £10 for a toasted tea cake and cup of tea. Atmosphere OK, but that really is the only thing in its favour.

Full of buzz, with students around you, some working, some chatting; good fun . Parking is tricky. Well worth stopping in if you are passing.

I was attending a conference at Clare College Memorial Court, which backs onto the University Library. When I found I couldn’t get a decent cup of coffee there (or any coffee at all before the designated coffee break), I went off in search of one. Someone I asked (yes, some blokes do ask directions!) pointed me to the ARC Café on the Sidgwick Site, but that was closed, as was The Buttery. Then I was directed to the café at Newnham College - the Iris Café - and finally I found the Holy Grail: a good espresso and a chocolate twist! Really such a thing should not be so hard to find - even in the wilderness of West Cambridge - but at least I didn’t have to walk all the way into the centre!

Este es un café dentro de Newnham College. La universidad es encantadora y vale la pena pasear por sus hermosos jardines. La cafetería es moderna, espaciosa y agradable comida estándar de café. Su acceso abierto al público con un agradable espacio exterior para disfrutar.

Hadn't been here for ages as it is not the best of places for refreshments. We called in today to get a refund for some slippers that started to fall apart after less than two weeks. Person serving not very bright ! I put the defective slippers on the counter with my receipt at the side of them. I told him one of the slippers was falling apart after less than two weeks. In typical robotic style he uttered, "Have you got your receipt ?" Help!! As we were in there we decided we would just have a tea and cappuccino before walking back for the park and ride bus to return to our car. Queue was not too long but service was, as usual, so slow. The walking art gallery woman serving ought to have her long dyed blonde hair tied back as she was flicking and shaking it about all the time and where food is involved this is not good hygiene practice. Then, as we were sitting and having our drinks we, and several others, were shocked by a bang as a roof tile dropped down on an unfortunate customer sitting a few seats away. Luckily he didn't appear to be injured. I was shocked as well as I have PTSD. There was an area that was screened off for work in progress but it was inadequately guarded and the seats and table should never have been as close to the screened area as they were - as this poor chap discovered ! All in all, a very eventful visit but for the wrong reasons.

I have been coming here for a good couple of years and always enjoy a coffee with friends after our round of golf. During this time, there has been a huge staff turnover. Really disappointed to see more recently though that the one young lady who always greeted us with a friendly smile and made the best coffee has gone off to university I believe . Now left with very young staff and some older but not as competent Barista’s! Food overpriced but generally Ok. Nice surrounding and spacious to meet with friends.

SCAM! They ask you, "Is that with our winter coffee?" without telling you it's 30p extra. They should be asking "for 30p more would you like..." Very unpleasant to feel like they are trying to scam you out of more money.

Nice staff and big seating area on the 1 floor. Not much to eat, coffee is fine.
