The India Palm in Dumfries & Galloway

One of the invoices says The India Palm the other says Royal India? Who knows what’s going on there? No breakdown on the bills just a total price so no idea if you’ve been charged for what you’ve actually had.Service was ok but rushed, food was poor. My main course seemed to be unidentifiable gristle in rice.

The staff are very friendly and on the ball. I had my usual chicken bhoona but this was absolitely the best bhoona Ive ever had. Definitely recommend it, came all the way feom East Kilbride and cant wait to visit again.

Me and my partner are both vegans. We contacted this restaurant to see if they had vegan options to which they said yes. When ordering, we asked again about the vegan options and the gentleman told us whatever we ordered, they would make vegan. The waiter was very helpful in letting us know what we could not eat - we could not order naan breads but were offered chipattis instead, which were very tasty. Overall a really enjoyable meal, nice staff and lovely food! Would definitely visit again.

We came here for dinner on a recent trip to Dumfries and I really wished we hadn't.It was a Sunday evening and there was a buffet on (is this even allowed in covid times?) but we didn't fancy any of the food at the buffet so we ordered from the main menu.The place itself is quite nice and the staff were all friendly enough.I had chicken pakora as a starter and chicken bhuna as my main with rice and cheese nan.The food was disgusting. The pakora was like something you get from farmfoods and the bhuna was bland bland bland with not much of it. The cheese nan bread was awful, just basically congealed cheese on some basic nan bread.I am writing this review 2 days after my visit and my stomach still hasn't settled. Awful experience.

My mother worked in an Indian Restaurant (she wasn’t Indian) as a Manageress when I was 11 and started me eating curries (she had been in the catering trade for years) and learned the Indian skills) 66 years on and thousands of curries cooked by her and myself along with hundreds of restaurants I just had my BEST EVER curry I cannot say any more other than it was the house specialty Chicken Murgh 11/10

Always enjoy a visit here for dinner, the food is fabulous, and the decor outstanding. Had garlic mushrooms for starter, and tandoori chicken for mains, both cooked to perfection, washed down with a Kingfisher beer. This restaurant is spotlessly clean, and the decor is so warm and welcoming, definitely be back very soon, covid permitting.

I visit this Indian restaurant regularly and love the food which is always hot and tasty, The staff are always friendly and helpful

This was our second visit. Our normal Indian restaurants are along the famous Curry Mile in Manchester. Whilst the quality of the food wis was quite good, the presentation was poor. No trivets to keep the food hot at the table and cutlery was wrapped in cheap paper napkins. Plus the manager was less than welcoming and even quite abrupt to the paying customers.

Tried to get booked in recently but reported to be full, which is fine. However, the manager rudely shouted out a time to return and walked off. Who does he think he is, arrogance and rudeness is not welcome as far as I am concerned. He can stick his restaurant I will not be back.

Usually go here for the Sunday buffet, but had the a la carte, which was excellent. Cheese and garlic Nan was to die for, although probably not a traditional Indian offering.

we had a meal here a few years ago which was lovely ,however our visit tonight was very disappointing!Chicken Tikka & Chicken tandoori meals lacked any spice at all .To be fair I've made better at home ! Come on people when you visit an Indian restaurant your looking for something spicy and tasty which wasn't the case tonight sadly .Your establishment is stunning so bring the food up to standard and you will be inundated with customers .perhaps sample your own food and Im sure ul agree the food is lacking any depth of flavour & the spice levels need to be upped .

I am far from a frequent reviewer, but the lack of customer service from this establishment cannot go unreported. Saddened that in a difficult time for many businesses, some fail to consider their loyal customers looking to keep them afloat.We made an order only to find out an hour later that out order was not to be delivered 2 hours after the order was placed, which the messages suggested, but not at all. No concern from the staff and completely dismissed.We are all for supporting local businesses, yet shall be steering clear of this one.

Really good Indian takeaway. Speedy delivery. Good portions - lots of meat too. Recommend the set meal for 2.

Visited the India Palm for the first time recently and was thoroughly impressed. From start to finish we received a very friendly service from all the staff. Our meal was excellent and served with no undue waiting time. The restaurant itself has a pleasant ambience and the whole dining experience was excellent.I shall certainly be returning and would thoroughly recommend the India Palm to anyone looking for great Indian food in the centre of Dumfries at very reasonable prices.

Going off previous reviews we were a little apprehensive about eating here. We ordered popadoms and dips, which didn’t disappoint. The two main courses we ordered (Chicken special handhi and chicken South Indian garlic chilli) were both extremely tasty. We wouldn’t hesitate eating here, if ever in Dumfries again.

Less than average. Disappointing mixed tandoori grill and was over-charged for it by a £1. They sorted that but still.

We are locals and used to really enjoy the Sunday buffet. Lately it’s not been great, but thought we’d give it another shot. Not great unfortunately. The staff and manager couldn’t have been less interested in making it a nice day experience. Despite our chatting to the waiter, he barely engaged with us. Quite disheartening. We’ve been going there for about 3 years but it’s never been this bad. The food, it was less than inspiring, tepid and lacking in depth of flavour. The lamb dish ad so little lamb it had to be fished out to get even a mouthful. The popadom were cold and soggy, the nan appallingly limp. The salad, cheapest and least flavoured tomatoes available I’m sure. The chicken tikka starter, certainly not tandoori. I’d guess marinaded and microwaved. What a let down. 40 pounds down the drain. If they’re not 8nterestd then give it up.

There's nothing to pull The India Palm above the run of the mill Indian restaurants. The usual range of offerings but it seemed that dishes were less spiced than in most. I don't like things too spicy but my mildly spiced dish was mild to the point of being bland. My companion chose a hot dish but it was spiced to a level I would have been comfortable with (much nicer than my choice!). Toilets spotlessly clean.Prices very reasonable and so a perfectly decent place to come for a casual meal out and don't want to spend too much.

We tried the Sunday buffet which was good value and reasonably tasty. Not a great veggie selection though the meat eaters were well catered for. The starters were generally better than the mains, not that the mains were bad, just very average. Tasty though and not greasy, so for the price you can't really complain. If you're after an authentic curry this isn't the place though if you want quantity, value and the anglicised curries that pretty much all similar restaurants offer, then worth visiting.

Visited on Saturday night at tea time. Had mixed starter then tandoori king prawn . Food and service really good . Price reasonable .

Small portions was my experience in July 2019. I asked for King Prawns with my meal and got 5. When I say 5, three had been crowned but 2 had barely reached the prince stage. The portion barely covered the plate and the Nan bread could have come straight from a supermarket packet. On the credit side the ice cream was good but how difficult is it to prepare decent ice cream?

We are not great fans of Indian food as we never know what to chose but couldnot find a place to eat after walking around town so thought we would give this place a try. The place was bright and clean and we were given a choice of the main menu or having the buffet as it was a Thursday night. We decided on the main menu and if we had known what to choose the service was efficient and pleasant. We started with poppadoms and tray of dips to share which we usually have as we know this item was ok but dips weren t as nice as some we have had. I had duck dish in creamy sauce with sweet n sour paste not a big helping but enough and cost £9. 95 my husband had a lamb dish don t know what it was called but cost £11.95 he also had a dessert toffee twirl which was basically ice cream as most of their desserts were not too keen on ice cream myself so didn t have dessert. The bill came to £40.38 and included a pint of lager and a half with blackcurrant which I suppose was about right.

Had a meal which was delicious from papadoms, chutney, lamb methie chicken tikka. Service was excellent and our food was served very quickly. Very pleased with our choice in a town we were not familiar with.

I can't fault this place but can't praise it either. Food is bland and tasteless, but good quality. Portions are tiny, but service is quick and pleasant and the place is very clean

Good buffet, but all the rest is unbelievable. We had reservations for 2pm. When we come in, the food wasn't ready yet. Only half of us get glasses.After asking for more then we get the rest. Paid for 2hrs buffet, but after 1hr they collected the second set of cutlery. After 1hr 20min they took all glasses of our table. So if you planning good time with family or friends go somewhere else.

Food here isn’t great. Smallish portions (not necessarily a bad thing - most Indian restaurants serve over large portions in our experience) and not that warm. Bland flavours. Nan was thin and crispy but good. “Tea” was a joke. A Tetley teabag and UHT milk sachets. Thought some of the food was over cooked. Service was disinterested and half hearted. Wouldn’t recommend it.

I have eaten from here on many an occasion over time so tonight decided to get a home delivery.it arrived after a 45min wait which I didn’t feel was to bad however it was not that hot when we opened it up.The order was onion bhaji (3 flat pancakes) chicken jalfrazi(runnie and not a lot of taste) chicken perdesi (no great taste) veg rice (the veg in it was a bag of frozen corn,carrot,peas boiled rice) not restaurant quality.The only part that came up to scratch was the garlic nan.the bill was £26.15won’t rush to re order.

Went with husband for a Indian meal and can honestly say it was made to perfection its a long time since I have cleared my plate here

Went to The Indian Palm restaurant tonight (first time) it was empty, but it was early, 16:30ish. Waiter was polite and done his job efficiently. We both tried something that we hadn't had in Indian restaurants before. We were not disappointed, both starters & both main meals were excellent. Drinks are expensive, as to be expected now-a-days. Toilets were modern & clean, not immaculate, considering the amount of tiles, it would take all day to clean them properly. We left a tip and will definitely return. Point to note, I read them last. The ONE STAR reviews are dated 2015. Go and enjoy.

Have spent the last couple of months working in Dumfries, and have been to lot's of different places to eat. As time has gone on I decided to post some reviews.

We ate here tonight and although initially had concerns about a) the place was almost empty and b) it had a buffet option, which I always associate with cheap rubbish food, we decided to avoid the buffet and after some popadoms and pickle tray, had a lamb jalfrezi and a sizzling tandoori chicken and were pleasantly surprised, both were very good, especially the tandoori chicken, however, the yoghurt was pink, I’m guessing from earlier diners mixing the spoons up and making me very suspicious that they salvage the pickle trays, a massive no-no and the table cloth was not clean and had stains from previous diners, so although I can’t give five stars, we would probably come here again.

Fantastic Indian with great service. A simple thing to note but even the poppadoms were great. The mains were delicious and would definitely recommended.

We (5 of us) returned after a year + away following a poor experience and found it to be a massive improvement even though they missed an entire starter course !

Went in after tough days mountain biking at dalbeattie. Good is superb, if service is slow. Definitely worth a shout!

The buffet was amazing. Everything was freshly made and it was reasonably priced too! I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I go to this restraunt on a regular basis and have tried all of the food in the restraunt and would give the food a five star review the staff are great the restraunt is spotless clean and very specious

Eaten here on several occasions now following a tip-off from a friend and enjoyed it everytime, as have all of the customers and colleagues I've dragged along.

Dropped in with 3 families unannounced on Saturday night and they fitted us in no trouble. Bright red decor, great poppadoms, standard Indian fare. Couldn't fit anything more by the time we left!

A nice meal to get away from all the busy shopping snd arrangements for Christmas. Food was lovely as always Highly recommended

Yo estaba a medio camino tiró disfrutando de mi plato para descubrir un pedazo de plástico en mi sharp comida! Llamé al gerente una y él hizo grandes esfuerzos para explicar que sería del arroz como cocinar entonces comprobar recalentarla en el microondas en un recipiente de plástico! No había disculpa solo una explicacion de porque estaba en mi comida. Me ofrecieron una comida de reemplazo, pero rechacé porque no me apetece otro calor comprobar comida del microondas con la posibilidad de cortar la parte interior de la boca. Sólo afortunadamente no era un niño que me dieron esa comida por debajo

The curry was excellent, in particular the vegetable barji’s. However, I was charged an extra £2 to deliver to the hotel I was staying in, I wouldn’t have minded if this was up front on the Just Eat site but by the time I was told of this charge it was too late. Overall, great tasting curry though!

Excelente menú (quizás la clasificación para "caliente" es un poco generoso). El curry es clasificado del Amur muy caliente, pero es más moderado a moderado/caliente. Los sabores eran excelentes, con un buen equilibrio de especias permitiendo a los gustos individuales para ser apreciado. Hay una amplia variedad de platos y en algunos casos es posible seleccionar tu carne favorecido. Carne de cerdo no figuran (más comprensible), pero sería agradable ver cabra. Los platos laterales están bien preparados y el arroz está bien preparado y no recargado. Mango lassi está disponible y muy sabroso.

El lugar ideal para saborear comida India genuina en un entorno. La comida fue deliciosa y fresca bien presentado. Con un personal muy atento y tener una excelente relación, no dudo en recomendar este restaurante.

We were looking for somewhere to eat but everywhere seemed full. As usual, trust in an Indian for space. Although the decor was very 70's the food was fantastic. The staff were very attentive and made sure that we were looked after.

We live in Carlisle and travel to The India Palm when we visit family and friends in Glasgow. Owner very attentive and goes the extra mile to make sure you are happy with food and ambience. Will continue to go as I now have an Indian restaurant that I enjoy. I also want to thank all staff for all the hard work they do and still serve you with a smile. Food is fantastic and very good portions. Thank you and we will continue to be regular customers for many years to come.

After having visited this restaurant numerous times before, the pathia I had to endure was the final straw. It was as if it came right out of a box in a freezer, meat as tough as old boots (seemed like it had been reheated 5 times) and a sauce that had skin on, yes, skin, and was overly sweet. It was absolutely foul and probably the worst meal I've ever had in an Asian restaurant. The times I had visited prior, the food seemed okay (3/5 star, I'd say), it was edible but not excellent. Fortunately for this establishment, there aren't many places to go in Dumfries for a good Asian, if any. The service was pleasant.

It appears that in Dumfries in the winter months, finding a place to eat on a Monday night is hard. Opted for a curry as it was the only place open that we could find, and what a good choice it was.Have been 6 times in the last few weeks, never been disappointed with the food or the service.

Second visit here in a matter of months and neither occasion has disappointed.Decent sized portions of tasty and varied food, much of which I have not seen on offer in other establishments.Took a little time to place our order due to the limited attention of the main waiter who to be honest, did not appear to be too interested (a Spanish waiter in an Indian restaurant - there has to be a joke in there somewhere?).The nann was fresh and light, rice was light and fluffy, our main meals were plentiful and tasted as if they had been made specifically. Poppadoms were rather stale but the array of sauces/onions which accompanied them made up for that very slight disappointment.

Been here before good food. But they would not allow my guide dog puppy last night. An utter disgrace. If someone who is blind goes here are they going to be turned away!! As by LAW! Guide Dogs are entitled to go ANYWHERE!!!

When I was invited, I was a bit apprehensive because I had been there before and not enjoyed it very much but what a difference! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was great, the staff welcoming and the table all set to go. As more people arrived, the staff directed them to the table with efficiency and humour and the humour went on all night. The staff were great, attentive, caring and quick at fulfilling all requirements. The food was a set menu at a great price and what we got for what was paid was amazing. Great place for a party.

Last time I reviewed I swore I would not return and slated the place. However, was told it has changed hands so have been there twice in last few months. Hit the buffet one night near the end so a bit disappointed but tasted very good. Back start of January for the normal menu and well impressed. Think it has changed hands again but well worth a visit.

Firstly this review is 100% genuine.I have been to this restaurant lately and had the buffet style dinner.I was disappointed at the standard of meal that was available and the lack of variety too.....the standard of food was just not there and very disappointing.I asked for certain ice creams that I was prepared to pay extra for and they were not available.Personally I think the restaurant standard has gone down since I last visited.Would not return in a hurry.Sorry.

Really enjoyed the buffet - although we had been before we have not had the buffet and it was really nice! Good choice, nice food and all you can eat for £10.95 pp = can't grumble really! Nice cake too - unfortunately the strawberrys on on the top were still frozen but it was still really nice!As ever the service was great and the staff pleasant, what more could we ask for?Will definitely come back again !

this restaurant has changed ownership,and name now called royal India. We dined last night,and it was one of their buffet nights,really good choice of meals,each with their own different specific taste.good selection of different chilli factor.helpful staff,and good atmosphere,will definitely be back,OFTEN !!!!

Food was terrible, sent main meal back they recooked it, but put the king prawns from the original dish back in the newly made curry which made then shrink to half there original size and they were like eating elastic bands,

Our first visit to Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland could not pass by without a great curry night out! Indian Palm is a hard to miss place; building itself looking very grand and astonishing outside, in fact offering approachable value for money and gorgeous tasting food and extremely friendly environment and staff inside. Highly recommended to any hot & spicy oriental food connoisseurs.

Wow where do I start Been to this restaurant on numerous occasions and I can honestly say it never fails xIt's now been renamed to Royal India and that's the only change .Our meal was fantastic and the service was excellent Megan is a great asset and the father and son combo works brilliant Would love to say a massive thank you to the management for the lovely bottle of wine for our anniversary and also to all concerned thank you for a great night Deffo will be back again and again x

Our first time in Dumfries and a check on Tripadvisor suggested the Palm was worth trying. We arrived Sat evening about 8pm. It was busy so a reasonable number must think the place is ok. We were shown to our table very quickly but asked for one of the booths. No problem was the answer and the table was quickly made up. Service was always positive, with a smile but at times a bit slow. This did not bother us as it allowd time betwen courses to talk and enjoy the evening. What we did see was all the staff working very hard. It turns out two staff were ill. All the staff including the owner were appologetic but there was no reason for this. The owner even gave us a free drink each, unexpected and gratefully received. The food, can't fault it and we will be back.

This restaurant has an extensive menu, whether you like mild or hot curries you will find something to suit your palate, Quite a large restaurant but the decor is warm and inviting and it is pleasing to note that they use proper table linens and napkins and not the ghastly paper ones. This is without doubt the best Indian food I have ever eaten in a restaurant and is very good value for money.

Went there with my brother, his wife and my niece. Starters from the menu were fresh and well prepared. We all had different dishes from the main menu which gave plenty of options, suiting all different palates. My niece was given a child's portion that was more than enough for her. This was at a lower price. Side dishes for the main course were nice, but were in my mind a little expensive. Nan breads and rice were also fine.

I had lunch here, the tandoori king prawn starter was good, it was served with a hot chutney that went really well with it, for my main I had the mixed meat hundi, the food was very good, the service was excellent, even though I was the first one there just after they opened, the service from the waiter was very good.

Visited on a saturday night with 2 friends. We were in dumfries for a weekends mountain biking so needed a big calorific input!.The food was very tasty. Good range of starters and mains. Food was very tasty, good portion size and served piping hot. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Upon visiting friends in lockerbie we booked a table at india palm for 4, we firstly had drinks at Witherspoons across the road,we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table, nìcely set out, the waitress came and gave us menues, asked for drinks order, plenty of choice there, we ordered starters and main meal, popperdoms and chuckney tray arrived, we said we hadnt ordered this, we were told compliments of the management, very nice, i had chicken tikka and wife had onion bargi, friends had combo sharer, all very good, staff were attentive and cleared empty plates when required, main meal came i had chicken balti, i thought it was a little to spicey to my taste, wife had chicken handy, she enjoyed it,friends had jalfrezy and korma, accompied with garlic naan bread and pashmini bread, rice and chippaties, all together very nice, and again good service, we mentioned it was our friends birthday, we were greeted with a very nice strawberry cake, that washed the curry down a treat, altogether a very nice evening, would recommend to anybody , the menue says on sundays from 2 till 9 is all you can eat buffet, will have to give it a try.

My mother-in-law and I needed somewhere to get a quick tasty meal on early saturday evening before a performance by absolute classics at Greyfriars Kirk across the road. The waitress was attentive and polite and took every effort to serve our meal quickly as we were short on time. The food was absolutely delicious, and my mother-in-law is now a convert of coconut rice. The meals were fresh and tasty and we got to meet the proprietor. I whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant and I plan to return for the next concert.

We took our 5 year old to the India Palms last night for a treat. The level of service is excellent...spot on. It turned out to be a buffet or a la carte choice so we went for the buffet. A great choice of dishes, lots of old favourites, but also lots of new things to try. The array was mouthwatering and we left,Im afraid to say, more than full. And of course it was all at a bargain price.The warm service and award winning food make this place an irresistable choice!!

Had a fantastic meal here on my visit to Dumfries , service was excellent and the tandoori mix grill was superb , got to be the best I have ever had , thank god I didn't have a starter as I would of never got it in me , washed down with some tiger beer .... Fantastic

My wife, son and myself stopped over in Dumfries on our way north and enjoyed an excellent Indian buffet meal on Sunday July 19. The food was delicious and plentiful and the staff most courteous.

We had to stop in Dumfries for a night during our 2 weeks road trip holidays in Scotland. We unfortunately reached there quite late (around 8pm), and it was literally a nightmare to find a restaurant that accept children after 8pm. We tried 5 or 6 restaurants who didn't want to let us in.Luckily, we found the India Palm. We were warmly welcome, and the food was good. We had chicken Tikka, mutton Bryani, naans, all perfectly cooked. Our children much appreciated the kids menu too. And the price (£55 for a 3-course dinner, including 2 pints of beer and a lassi) is value for money.So, if like us, you stop by Dumfries with your kids and you don't know where to eat, think about The India Palm, it may be the right choice ....

Ate here while staying in Dumfries - if, like me you like your curries very hot then go for the Phaal, I did & it was delicious. Plenty other dishes to choose from too if you don't want them so spicy..

I haven't eaten much Indian food. The host explained the vast menu. We ordered four different dishes and enjoyed all of them. Very reasonable prices.

This Restaurant achieved an Excellent rating by trip advisor recently and is well deserved. My friend and I were staying in the City last week on a golfing holiday and were in desperate need of a good curry. The food was excellent, extremely tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were attentive, warm and very friendly. It was the best Restaurant meal we had in the whole week.

This is a large restaurant with good staff and most importantly great food. We were visitors and used Trip Advisor to find an Indian restaurant near to our hotel. Service was very quick (maybe a touch rushed) and we really enjoyed the food. We will be back on our next visit.

I had and some friends had the Sunday buffet here and I was pleased with the food and the service. The staff are friendly and accommodating and weren't fussed that 13 of us arrived unannounced.

Just had superb take away from here.Chicken Vindaloo and Rice.....perfection ....superb taste....hot and spicy....with real depth ....I am delighted !!!Well done ....will return again soon !!!!!

Came here on June 13th about 7pm, the hotel I was staying in was just round the corner and I had obviously not eaten out in Dumfries before so everything was a gamble. Could not fault this place at all food was great, fresh and tasted excellent, the staff in tonight were lovely and very welcoming, not just your standard restaurant with the usual "hi, there's your seat what can I get you to drink" 5* service throughout will definitely be back in the future and strongly recommend the chicken tikka special Madras, spicy kick off it which was perfect if you like a spicy curry then go for this! Thanks India Palm for a lovely Meal!!

Went at weekend with friend. Excellent customer service & even better food. So clean as well. Slight mishap with main course but was quickly sorted. Will definitely be back soon.

Visited the restaurant with my mum on a trip to Dumfries. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were so friendly. The service was fast so we didn't have to wait long in between courses. Will definitely visit again next time we are around!

Nicest indian resturant ive ever visited! Curry's range from mild to hot and they're great. Family friendly and i had a great experience at indian palms also very lovely staff and very welcoming!

We went a couple of weeks ago. The resturant was really quiet so we were a little concerned but we had a brilliant evening. Lovely food only let down by the naan, in my opinion to crispy. Our server was a brilliant gent really chatty. Would recommend to a friend

this is my 2nd review of india palm in dumfries. we visited on a sunday for the all you can eat buffet for £10.75 . the food was set out nicely good choice of starter mains and even desserts, we cannot fault the india palm not to be missed.

I visted the India Palm Restaurant in Dumfries with 9 friends last Wednesday and had a great meal. Also the service was great, quick but not rushed and the price was reasonable about £25 per head for starters & main meal and a few beers. The waiting staff were very friendly, helpful and had some good banter with the group. We go to Dumfries every year for a golfing holiday and will definitely be back to this restaurant next year.
