Not good. £41 for two lamb bhunas, two rice and one garlic naan to carry out! You just cannot justify the price for the very underwhelming food. We collected our order on a Tues around 5.30pm and we were very much looking forward to eating one of our favourite cuisines without having to cook it ourselves, especially as it was my birthday! When we got it home, the vegetable rice was actually boiled rice with frozen veg which you get in a supermarket. They charged us just under £10 for two portions, we could have made that ourselves at a fraction of the price! The lamb bhuna was thick and gloopy and you could tell it had been reheated. No signs of cooking or smells coming from the kitchen either upon collection. Just a shame this is the only Indian in Moffat, there are far more superior Indian restaurants in Dumfries & Galloway. We won't be back!

I’ve eaten a lot, I mean a lot of Indian food over the years, but rarely to I review a restaurant. This place deserves a review and moreover, you, the reader of this review deserve a brilliant curry. The owners are funny and friendly. Great Punjabi food, made with fresh ingredients. If you like it hot, tell them, they won’t disappoint you. I recommend the Keema Rice as an accompaniment to your meal. This is the best and freshest I’ve ever had.

We’re staying at the caravan site down the road and had been watching footy in the Star Bar, which is across the road from Spice India. After reading mixed reviews, we decided to sit in to save on washing up at the caravan. Restaurant was quiet at first, but filled up and there were plenty of people getting takeaways. We received super friendly service from waitress Teagan and the lady at the front counter was fabulous. We ordered a curry to share, which was chicken tikka special bhoona (requested medium rather than hot, which was perfect heat wise) and was honestly one of the BEST CURRIES we’ve had in a long time! Keema rice to share was delicious. Requested a saag aloo side to share, which wasn’t on the menu but they were more than happy to make and the highlight was the shared garlic and cheese naan - which we saw people have mentioned in previous reviews - oh my word, this was AMAZING! For a couple in our Forty’s, this was plenty of food for the pair of us. With a large Kingfisher beer and Coke, the bill came to £39 which we thought was great. If you’re sitting on the fence on whether to give this place a go due to other reviews, DO IT! You won’t be disappointed and we shall definitely return on our next visit to Moffat.

Indian food is to be found all over Scotland, so there is plenty of incentive to maintain high standards. Although quite ‘ok’, Spice India did not quite measure up to expectations. The restaurant has a decidedly ‘down-market’ feel, with red paper tablecloths and rather nondescript décor. Despite some rather negative reviews here, I did find the staff to be pleasant and helpful. The food was good in parts, but had a suspiciously ‘reheated’ feel. I ordered onion bhaji which was a tasty though slightly chewy, and it came with a minimal amount of just one reddish chutney – can’t really say what was in it. My mains of palak paneer was excellent, with a fine spice blend and a generous portion. But the peshwari naan that came with it was a disappointment. It too was leathery and hard to cut, without any of the bubbly yeasty lightness of a fresh naan. And the filling was way too sweet for my taste, almost obliterrating any trace of fruity nuttiness. There were few customers on a gorgeous summer evening. Maybe the deficiencies of the food offering reflected this - or vice versa.

Ordered fresh food to be collected around 9pm. Upon opening pizza looked lovely and golden however it was uncooked dough in the middle and only the perimeter would have been edible if you dared. The onion bhaji smelled and looked like a fried onion sock. It was disgusting. The food was honestly inedible. I have never experienced anything like it and at £22 for 1 small pizza and chips and the onion bhaji you would be best eating a bowl of weetabix.

Please don’t be like us and think Spice India is closed. It’s not on the 1st floor but down the steps below pavement height in the basement. We had a closer look on the 2nd and last night of our stay any by were we pleased we did. We went to request a table for 8.30pm. The lovely lady said it wouldn’t be a problem at this time of year and just call in when we were ready. We got there little after half 8 after having a few drinks locally and were shown to a nice seat. We were offered drinks as soon as our butts were on the seats, and given the menus. There was 2 Cobra’s there in a crack, followed shortly by the lovely lass to take our order. I had, chicken tikka madras, spicy pilau rice, cheese and onion naan. Followed by a nice little ice cream sundae. My wife went for chicken bhuna, keema pilau rice and keema naan and we also added a raitha. We didn’t have long to wait before it was served up, good hot and very very tasty. I’d go so far as to say, it was one of the best Indians we’d ever had. My wife said she’d never ever had chicken as lovely and tender and as tasty as that was. We were both very impressed and will definitely call again next time we’re anywhere near. I had to loosen my belt a notch afterwards and was ready for a lie down. Lovely clean place and would definitely recommend.

Came to Moffat for weekend read the reviews so thought great love Indian food so booked a table for 2 , food was average we also asked for chip to be added to meal and 2 rice only 1 rice came no chips, once I reminded them I could see the boss lady had forgot to add them , they did offer but we where nearly finished our dinner so told them just to leave it, BUT my big complaint was the wine, we asked for a bottle of Rosa wine it came to the table but as soon as I poured it I realised it was low alcohol, said to my husband hope they are not charging me full price for low alcohol wine, at the end of our meal receipt came with charge for £15.95 for the bottle of wine I wasn’t happy as this Gallo wine is only £5 in most shops, that is some mark up on a bottle of wine , I did mention this to the lovely member of staff who I think did mention to her boss but nothing came back to us before we left, They had already broke the seal before brining to table aswell, just be aware if eating here check your bottle of wine before pouring

Food overall below average. Butter nan was good and the veg pula. Biriyani is the worst I ever tasted in my life, price compare to the quantity is not justifiable. 2 biriyani needed for a normal man to be sufficient. Price is is sky high. Tandoori mix platter was a joke menu says it is a plate of lamb and chicken and at the end you won’t find any lamb in the plate. Only chicken tandoori and a couple of chicken wings and they charge an extra 5 pounds for that platter than a normal tandoori platter. Ambience and the cleanliness is at a good level. Also make sure you have cash to eat or buy food as they don’t accept card which is strange. I suggest the restaurant team to try some real indian restaurants to understand the Indian food taste.

We had poppadoms to start which were very nice, freshly cooked and nice accompaniments. I ordered lamb madras for main but the chef screwed up and I ended up with chicken madras instead, I accepted it and actually it was very nice, albeit not very spicy. My wife ordered chicken balti which she really enjoyed. I ordered onion rice and chapati, both of which were excellent, particularly the chapati which my wife stole half of. All washed down with a large Cobra beer for me and several glasses of merlot for the wife, she said the wine was excellent. Ordered here as staying overnight in moffat and not any other options especially if you want non pub food. Ordered a lamb pathia that yes is a sweet and sour dish but came out like a store brought sweet and sour sauce without the pineapple. The colouring was completely different to any dish I have ever been served especially a pathia which is a dark brown usually. It was really sweet and not enjoyable. The meat some parts were good some were fatty and chewy. Also got a keema naan where the keema was very sparse throughout and again not like any I've ordered before. My partner got a lamb saag. Usually green from the spinach and a bit creamy unfortunately it came brown with specs of spinach through it and couldn't taste the spinach at all. Again many many Indians cuisines up a down the country and never had one that looked or tasted this way. Also the naans were thin and large (not really a bad thing) but the garlic nann you couldn't taste the garlic on it at all. All of this with 2 soggy poppadoms for £35 just seems like they are exploiting the lack of options in the area and serving sub standard food. I would advise if in the area to just go and choose a different restaurant and cuisine this one is not worth the money.

We booked a table for dinner on a Monday night. We were first in at 7.30 but a table of 3 then another of 8 soon arrived so the restaurant filled up nicely. Menus and drinks arrived quickly and the waitress was happy to make...

Ordered two chicken tikka kebabs. Chicken was coloured and not one piece had a skewer mark! Looked as if it had been microwaved and not cooked on a grill. Pitta breads were packet standard and rock hard. Would NOT recommend.

I've had takeaway from here a few times. The food has ranged from disappointing to really quite good. Most disappointing was my Jalfrezi which is a mild dish here - I didn't have a menu when I ordered so wasn't to know - whereas it...

Overpriced, bad food, the curries had no taste, the popadoms were burnt and rubbery, the only somewhat decent thing was the meats, nothing special though, I feel robbed

Our meal cost us £46. 2 starter, 2 main, 2 rice, poppadoms and a nan. It should have been £39 according to the menu. I wouldn't have minded so much but their curries were absolutely tasteless. Poppadoms burned. On the plus side, they make a nice pakora and tikka.

Having heard that the restaurant was taken over sometime last year, I went to try it out and it was absolutely lovely. Food hot and plentiful, and so tasty. The staff were friendly, too. Restaurant could be doing with upgrading, but won’t put me off going back! Looking forward to our next visit.

Went for dinner on a Saturday In January, place seemed disorganised and short staffed lots of uncleared tables which resulted in a wait to get seated Food was decent nothing special typical Indian offering , tasty enough but not anything out of the ordinary. What stood our was 2 things, the impersonal service that had a production line feeling to it and tired décor and furnishings - in particular a filthy carpet! As soon as our starter was finished and we placed our cutlery down within 10 seconds the plates where whisked away and within 15 seconds our main course arrived, hardly had time to gather ourselves. In addition this place was refurbished 15+ years ago, as a local I recall it, and its hasn't been touched since, the carpet is filthy- very off putting when you're eating there - overdue for a refresh and a refit!

ABOVE AND BEYOND!! Good always delicious and arrives fast! They forgot our garlic dip, when I called to ask for dip they were appologetic, next thing A FREE MEAL arrives at my door to compensate for the pizza without the dip! I called to thank them and all they said was We just want to please!” That says it all! Food was delicious, on time and these guys ate so courteous and care. Five stars +++

This Indian is in my home town, only a 30 second drive yet they charge £3.50 for delivery, absolutely ridiculous. There is defiantly no friendly customer for buying from them, i see the point maybe charging £1.50 but £3.50 is just over the top

Business meeting. Excellent catering. Nice blazing woodstove kept us warm on very cold day.
