Full of charm and history and the most magnificent position on the cliff edge overlooking the sea with terraced gardens and originally steps down the beach now full of discarded building materials and old mattresses. The steps and gardens, not the beach! This hotel is currently undergoing much needed renovations, with scaffolding and workmen necessitating closing many rooms, particularly the restaurant and the guest lounge. Staff are lovely but because of the conditions, overworked and this does sadly impact service and quality. However, hopefully when the work is finished this hotel may regain the standard and reputation it must once have been famous for. However I still enjoyed my stay and gave it 4 stars.

Fantastically located hotel overlooking the coast. Loved nearly everything except: - no parking space - four poster bed was 'challengjng' to get in / out 😂 - shower water far too hot - couldn't open windows - size of room for Superior Double was amazing, though I'd do this layout different - staff were friendly and amazing - the fact that it's dog friendly is a huge bonus 🐶 - full buffet breakfast was great 👍🏾 - views are outstanding

So it may have seen more glorious days but the Imperial has breathtaking views gazing out to sea from the public areas as well as from the rooms. Opportunities for entertainment; people/dogs/gull/sea watching – join the waves and gulls make a noise, twerk and loosen a little, stand/sit quietly, maybe just smile. Tai Chi on the beach, anyone? It is warm, relaxing, clean and tidy. It is not many walking steps from shops and other amenities. The hotel “sits” on the beach; almost advocating sandy strolls and water’s edge activities – plenty of unwinding time can be had; still or slow pace, jogging speed or faster. Not forgetting the car parking nearby - not hotel's tho’. The hotel seems “far from the madding crowd” but as soon as you step outside, there is the world, which is reassuring. The food/meals are all righty to yum, but could do with more fresh vegetables. They gave me porridge in the morning on request which is most appreciated. Staff and service, pleasant, helpful and friendly. Good memories had. I relished my break at the hotel. Would stay there again should circumstances present itself.

Stopped off for a Buffet Breakfast during Ironman Wales day. We weren't looking for anything special, just a simple breakfast. It was 9.30 so the initial rush had gone and the dining room was pretty empty, unfortunately so were the buffet food areas! There were lots of people queuing for food that would arrive in minute quantities that were taken immediately by the people waiting. There was no bread for toast, the toaster didn't toast the toast and if you put it through twice it burnt it. The place was entirely understaffed with one poor girl who clearly couldn't cope. In the end we gave up on the cooked breakfast had 2 slices of toast (burnt) a small coffee and left. Visited the Gents on the way out that had no hand towels and the electric dryer was not working.

Booked imperial hotel for my wife’s special birthday, looking at the photo on their website, which looked great. Went to check in at 3 pm and I was told our room was not ready for another 40 minutes, when this has happened at another hotel, they usually say we,lol get you tea or coffee while we get your room ready and sorry it’s not ready yet. Instead receptionist said we could go for walk and come back in 40 minutes. Well, we came back checked in and went up to our room which was nothing like what it looks like in their brochure, It was very small room, the bathroom was so small we couldn’t even put soap bags in there and the show, well I it was so slow, I could wee faster. Paid for breakfast £40 for two morning breakfasts, first morning we went for our breakfast, there was very little choice of food, no fresh fruit and no pastries, only scrambled egg, no other eggs available, cold beacon, bean. Very poor choice. Service was very poor too. Would not stay there ever again. Over all very poor hotel. No parking

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights with our doggy and the hotel was great and the staff very friendly. It was s shame that the roof terrace was shut as it would have been great. Our sea view room was a really good size, but it probably needed a bit of updating. Needed a lick of paint, new curtains etc. The best thing about our room was the EPIC view. Can overlook the other stuff, just for that view.

Booked in for Sunday lunch, with some friends who were staying there and had a 60th birthday to celebrate. On arrival in the restaurant a jazz band were playing, they were located within a small area where the diners were seated. The music was too loud to sit and chat and as we were celebrating it made things a bit difficult. We were sat for at least 40 minutes before we were able to ask a waitress if she could take our orders. The menu on the table apparently was the wrong one and no starters were available! We all ordered and asked if we could have the wine list, this took time to arrive and even more for someone to come back and take our order. So almost an hour passed, we asked the waiter when we would receive any food and was told “you are next, show some patience!” The wine arrived with food shortly after. We all had beef all but one who opted for pork. The beef was the extremely thin beef you can buy cooked in supermarkets , not carved but it seemed to be the formed stuff. Tasteless, no wonder there was a big Yorkshire sat on top, as well as the thin pieces of beef there were 2 smallish roasties, a small dessert spoon of carrot/potato mash, same size portion of cauliflower and broccoli cheese and a very thin gravy. Absolutely shocking! I will say the roast pork was a slice of carved pork with a piece of crackling. We all ordered strawberry cheesecake, clearly out of the freezer, little flavour and extremely soggy base. So, food wise extremely poor and had it not been my friends 60 th birthday lunch I most certainly would have tackled all the issues at the time, including the rude waiter. We are a group that meet to dine out regularly in Pembrokeshire, we will not be returning to The Imperial Hotel.

We slept well in a comfortable bed. Scaffolding was being erected for the start of a major restoration programme which did not impede on our stay. The staff were very friendly and professional. Breakfast was very good couldn't believe how good the 3 course dinner was especially for the price it was freshly made not ding ding food. We left feeling happy and relaxed can't wait to book our next stay later this year. Highly recommend this hotel.

No words to express there attitude. I guess people need to create a scene there snd then for them to take action and you receiving a probably better service

During our three days eating in the restaurant they at times ran out of mushy peas ( they gave us warm lettuce instead!) apple crumble, brown bread and muesli. There was also no fresh fruit provided at beakfast ( prunes and grapefruit slices do not compensate for the lack of fresh fruit). The staff ( especially Kiti) were very good, and were not to blame for the shortcomings of the kitchen.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary during a short stay in Tenby. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I had the ‘Luxury’ Fish pie at 16.75, it was nice but not Luxury and came on a very hot plate with a side salad on it. The vegetables were cabbage and tinned mixed veg!! Now maybe it’s me but the last thing I expected was tinned veg. There was no ambiance in the restaurant and lounge, it was all quite cold and unwelcoming. The staff were good but unfortunately fighting a losing battle.

We went in here for a snack at lunchtime and were not disappointed. The restaurant overlooks the sea and there is an open air terrace where you can sit out. We had a BLT sandwich at £5.95 and an egg & mayo at £4.85. Both came on plates with salad and crisps and were delicious. With 2 pints the bill was £19.00, so the pints were a little expensive at £4.10 each.

Relatives were staying here and we joined then for a meal on Good Friday evening. The dining room overlooking the sea is a lovely setting. Unfortunately that and the company was the best thing about the experience. My wife had a vegetarian dish with asparagus which was very spindly and overcooked - not nice. My fish was OK but un-seasoned. Service was pretty haphazard too. There is better food to be had elsewhere in Tenby.

Booked this through Shearings, and mistakenly ignored the poor reviews as I think people often have unreasonable expectations for a cheaper weekend getaway; however this hotel is in need of a major overhaul and upgrade.I paid a premium for one room, which was okay - but with some very unacceptable damage, mould and stains. However I also had to pay a premium for a single room, which was grim at best, and couldn’t even be used for one night as the fire alarm was removed - although according to the hotel it would have been okay! The staff do try, and the food is bearable, but the whole place is filthy and needs a complete refit.Ironically I’d never be able to go back then because location wise it is stunning & has enormous potential, so would cost an arm and a leg. There are plenty of other places in Tenby - use them instead!

We called in for lunch and I chose the triple toasty. When it came it was a very standard ordinary toasty with just two slices of bread. When I queried this the waiter he said it was something to do with a new chef and they hadn't bothered to change the menu. Three of the four meals included a salad and crisps. The crisps came in a small pot which wasn't evened big enough to hold a normal full size crisp, the portion of broken crisps was very small. The salad was basic and some of the lettuce was brown on the edges. All in all very disappointing.

Called in for a coffee thinking it was such a nice setting on a hot day sitting outside looking over the beach. What a disappointment - dirty, threadbare carpets, seagull droppings over all the tables and chairs, uncleared tables which attracted the sea gulls who were all around our heads, toilets also not very clean. We didn’t get anything from the bar and just turned around and went elsewhere. Always thought this would be an impressive hotel (as the costs indicate!) and surprised that Shearings use it - this has made my mind up NOT to go on a Shearings holiday too if that’s the state of hotels they use.

This restaurant is in a magnificent position overlooking Tenby South sand but that is where the delights ended. We were warned on ordering our meal, (only main courses ordered) that there could be a wait. In fact it was almost an hour before our meals arrived. In the meantime we ordered a bottle of wine which appeared to have lost at least a glass full before it reached our table and the cap had been opened somewhere other than at our table. The waitress refused to change the bottle stating they were having trouble with their supplier. Not our problem of course.

We came here for a drink to watch the sunset from the terrace. The view was nice but the bars are too high if you want to sit down and look out and they also need cleaning as are covered in spiders. The drinks were quite expensive and actually about the same as what we pay in London. I wouldn't mind paying the extra if there was something special but the glasses are cheap and ugly. I think this hotel seems quite confused... either you keep charging the same prices but improve the quality and cleanliness of the hotel and bar or you lower the prices so that people don't expect too much.

This hotel is sitting in a prime location for views across South beach to Caldy Island and down to the bandstand. It's views outside make up for some tired decor inside. I understand this is a large building and so the maintenance alone must be astronomical, however when a hotel is charging premium prices you would hope to stay in a room without damp patches on the walls and where houskeeping hoover daily... The staff are all very friendly and I'm sure there has been work done recently in some rooms. But in order for it to achieve a higher rating than average, more money needs to be spent rectifying issues with the building itself.

Early November is not noted for its pleasant weather and sunshine but that is what we got during a 3 night weekend break in Tenby. Our room (No. 2) was spacious, with twin beds, and a table with 2 chairs in a large window recess which had views overlooking the Bristol Channel. To the left was the Loughor Estuary, the north Gower coast right down to Worm's Head and to the right Caldey Island. Breakfast was a self service buffet which included the usual selection and was topped up with freshly cooked items and so it was a very good start to the day. There are many varied little shops in Tenby to pass a few hours and a few castles and seaside resorts to visit if you so wish.
